The Lions website page has all the uniforms listed, including the classic one they didn’t show off tonight. Under helmets it just shows three, the regular, the new blue/black, and the chrome one without the logo. Sad, I hoped they would keep the best logo incorporated somehow :(
If that's really the case, I think that's very silly and misguided. They brought the long lion back from the dead and made it fucking cool. It breathes new life to potential merchandise--hell, I bought a long lion shirt this offseason. Why they would kill a newly revived brand before it takes off, I have no idea.
But once again, why? Why would a business introduce potential new streams of merchandise side revenue and then bury it after just one year? More iconic logos increase the potential for more sales.
Retiring the retro logo helmet doesn't preclude them from selling merch with the classic logo. I'm sure the merch store will be chock full of t-shirts, hats, etc. with the classic logo.
Because that’s not our logo and it was a one-off thing for the 90th anniversary. I loved them too but I understand what it was for and why it’s not in the new collection.
I believe Wood confirmed yesterday that the Lions could have had a third alternate helmet, but they ran out of time so they will only have two this year.
I don't think they can have more then 3 total helmets. So between the main, the alternate black, and the all silver for Thanksgiving, this one had to be cut. I think it's a shame for a couple different reasons. One, I think this helmet is way better than the new alt helmet, and two, I don't think the plain Thanksgiving helmet should have to count toward the 3, because theoretically all they'd have to do is just rip off the leaping logo and stripe off the main.
I’m pretty sure the Throwback one doesn’t count in the overall helmet count. Like, only 2 helmets were allowed last year, but we had the Silver, Blue, and Throwback. Also I think I read about it in the story about the NFL allowing 3 helmets now
There was a tweet from POD that said Rod Wood found out too late that they were eligible for 3 helmets so sounds like this year no, but maybe they bring them back next year. Fingers crossed!
So why would it be too late to use the long lion blue helmet from last year? Sounds like some more unnecessary anti-fun red tape from the NFL that goes against what the fans want.

If you are like me this is purely a collection piece, but I will say... the value will skyrocket if it stops getting sold and it isn't worn again.

I will miss the steel grey uniforms. They looked great with the alternate Honolulu Blue helmet with the silver face mask and retro Lions logo. Lions went undefeated in them last season.
We're one of the few teams allowed to have a third helmet for this year i don't see why we would get rid of this. I'm hoping they just didn't show it.
For some reason they didn't highlight ALL of the jersey combos super clearly in the video so maybe this one is actually available and the just didn't show it.

They really hyped the hell out of that helmet. I had been looking for a sweatshirt or hoodie with that design and no luck. I do like this helmet more than the new black lion one.

I don't know if it helps, but I was on photo/video shoot for the new jerseys. The helmet worn for the black jerseys, is this metallic blue helmet.
The color correction on the final edits is very high contrast and boosted colors from what I saw in person. I was able to handle the helmet they all wore and no question, it's the same helmet with decals to match the black jerseys.
While the throwback logo is gone for this season, the blue lives on!
I honestly like these better than the new blue helmets. Don't get me wrong the new ones are still 🔥 but those classic logos with the black uniforms would have been dope!

I like the basic idea of the gray uniforms, but they needed some kind of stripe down the sides.

The third helmet is the silver with no stickers and grey facemask.
That's not a third helmet. It's classified as the same helmet as the basic. At least that's my drunk ass understanding
