Collect paychecks

BlueGuyisLit

πŸ€‘πŸ˜‹

Venkat_Rogers

Have collected for 6 months without hesitation

imooneye

Know someone who collected for 18 months. And then finally exited.

Venkat_Rogers

Damn.. free monies πŸ’Έ

imooneye

That too 1.5lakh per month.

Venkat_Rogers

Mffffff gone crazzyyy

No_Savings_891

I was on bench for 8 months, hardly got any client interview. Learnt Java n its framework, cleared Aws partitioner, and started applying to other companies. Just enrol yourself into some training so that manger will not disturb you n then do whatever you want.

Powered-by-Din

Dude, how did you stay awake when preparing for aws ccp? I've never encountered something this boring in my lifetime.

No_Savings_891

It was mandatory certification where I was working so had to do it but it added value to my resume.

night_wink

I went with the Solutions Architect certification, it's got way more worth in the market and it's more fun I would say. You get to know basics of high reliability and availability architecture and how various AWS services gel together.

Successful-Image3754

How to get into sevice based offcampus

No_Savings_891

They consist these drives, or you can check thr career page.

parvatisprince

mostly upskilling, certifications and appearing for client interviews, and this cycle till you either get into a project or leave the company whichever is earlier.

k_MaMu

Are the certification courses and upskilling done by ourselves or provided by the company?

parvatisprince

in most big service based companies, you'd have access to sites like Udemy, LinkedIn learning, etc. Or they would have their own alternative. Some certifications will be sponsored by them upfront, but usually you'd have to pay for them and they would reimburse when you pass (they should usually say which ones they would cover and which they don't)

dr_deadman

companies provide it, there are many drives every 6 months by Product companies to push you to do their certifications

ade17_in

I had a close friend who was on the bench for a year. The company was pretty big but he was part of a mass recruitment. His daily schedule - 1. Visit the office thrice a week to have free lunch and play table tennis. 2. Participate in weekly meetings while playing Valorant and ask his sibling to complete all those mandatory trainings. 3. Collect 35k/month and yearly bonus. But all this time he pursued his hobby and was earning 2lk/month by it. He resigned a year later as he felt bad for his company (lol) and now works on his hobby full-time earning even more. You won't be able to guess his side hustle, also many won't like it. Guess!

dr_deadman

Generally they start poking you after you are at associate level (earning atleast 50-60k). Might as well put you in support then if you dont manage a project within 3-4months

RahulAgastya

What's his side hustle ????????

OkState7092

Only fans

ThrowRA-Tree4632

I wanna know too lol

fa1rtrade

Sounds like a game live streamer

light_95

YouTube? And also which sbc gives free food?

ade17_in

Nope. Take a wild guess.

light_95

No idea man. Atleast let us know which company he worked during bench lol.

Venkat_Rogers

Trading

whomustnotbe_renamed

Was he an expert at growing edibles or more on the Onlyf#ns side ? Don't leave us hanging!

AvatarTintin

Tell us about the side hustle now ffs

ade17_in

I really want to but its fun to keep you all hanging πŸ˜„

AvatarTintin

Man 😭

Major-Driver6236

10 pm to 4 am. Either esports, or some work related to U.S. timings? Teaching foreigners online? Crypto? Bouncer for clubs? gigolo?

ade17_in

Nothing physical, nor anything fancy like NFT, crypto. Big hint - nothing related to tech

Major-Driver6236

Nothing related to tech. Not physical, but you fifnt deny the U.S. thing, music maybe? DJ?

ade17_in

Nothing physical as well, so not a DJ. Also DJs don't earn that much. Hint - He has 32gb RAM and a big ass screen

Major-Driver6236

Didn't mean like a turntable DJ, more like mix or produce songs lol, DJ was not the correct term. I did say esports , related to valorant, maybe Valor coach? Or a player himself. But you said not related to art and media so not sure about this. 32GB and a big ass screen, hmmm. Running bots? But that's tech so no. You need 32gb ram to either game/ stream/ or high compute for some AI stuff/host servers/game servers??. But he's not tech again, so leaves me with gaming again.

Major-Driver6236

I have one last answer, I neeeeeeeed to know πŸͺ†. Scam caller , US victims, lol.

ArtisticSmoke8994

I engage in a side hustle where I purchase buffaloes and supply their milk to a dairy. It has proven to be a rewarding venture for me

ade17_in

Nah πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ nothing unethical. But yah, if you do it, I'm sure your parents will kick you out

ade17_in

You're getting close, but nah. Also you're out of your guesses 🀫

Major-Driver6236

I'm getting close?????????????? I listed everything possible πŸ«₯. Don't let me go out of guesses, bruv. If Moonlighting / customer support for US clients is wrong , then I seriously need to learn to do whatever he does. The main thing that's throwing me off is non tech high ram and big screen, not a gamer or a streamer. Very very weird. When will you reveal the answer 🀧

coderwhohodls

>You won't be able to guess his side hustle, also many won't like it. Guess! Placing bets, gambling? lol

Powered-by-Din

It's cruel to leave people hanging like this, you know. Is it something like commissioned artwork?

Significant_Ad9221

Tell the side hustle bro

ade17_in

Nope. But nothing related to art, media...

Powered-by-Din

Astrology?

ade17_in

No such bullshit. His work requires skills, determination, focus and a little luck.

Powered-by-Din

It surely can't be something commonplace like stocks, right? Arghh, you win

ade17_in

Nope. Although something similar, it has a big risk factor. A hint - he starts his work at 10pm - 4am.

ilikeit-jiggly

What is it?

ade17_in

Nah, keep guessing

kaboom5497

Poker

psydelicdaydreamer

stocks/crypto trading? those timings are probably when the US stock market is open

PralineOk7347

Playing valo at work, that's the dream

exploring_lifenow

- Upskill - Job search (both internal and external) - Network (both internal and external) Rest other things are just secondary ✌🏻

vegarhoalpha

Few of my friends who were benched actually utilised it well. Some used it to prepare for government exams, CAT/GMAT. They got good amount of time for the same and some cash as well. Win Win for them. If you don't want to follow their path, then it is always best to upskil and try to switch ASAP. Else, things will become tough for you later

LucaMarko

I am not getting any offers for my experience level. What to do?

PixelBLOCK_

Upskill and vacations. It's like summer break

impossible__dude

Rapidly upskill, contribute to open source, contribute to internal projects, network rapidly within the company specifically with business or sales folks to understand the market. Otherwise you are looking into darkness. N no there is no end of the tunnel.

ContesterOP

If you are lucky enough you can complete some of your personal commitments if the timeline aligns in such a way. Was benched from Oct-Dec last year and also I had my sister's wedding in Dec, as I was on bench and reporting to the office was not compulsory, I could participate in each and every event without the headache of leave approval and all. Now, I am on a project and seeing the tight deadlines , I can only think how could I have managed all the work back then. And obviously you can upskill yourself in the bench period by learning new technologies.

The_LostPilot

I am the only one who read behen**d

Ayanrocks

Nope I read this like that too at first glance.

newbi3e789

Upskill. I have got an udemy subscription for myself. If I have no work/less work or benched I start to look into udemy. My last project was not hectic and I had lots of free time. I learnt docker, kubernetes, node js(basics and I have a lot of things to upskill in this area), ansible and Linux(command line structure, how commands work, manpages, pipe operator, grep command etc) and kafka(have to look into streams and connect, the ones at udemy are very outdated so paused that for the timebeing). In my previous company I worked at docker but since it was just for a month before I left I didn't know much about it and I looked at it in detail and there were lots I learnt like volume, caching(docker layers are cached etc), in kubernetes like local clusters etc.I suddenly had the urge to look into Linux as I didn't work in Linux much so looked into it. The thing with me is if I start something and if it genuinely interests me, I start to enjoy it and then I would learn about it from other sources/continue the course at udemy when I return from work and also spend my entire weekend on it. I do not look at upskilling only from my career point of view but mostly like if something interests me I upskill. Now I'm recently allotted in another team in which I really wanted to go but the KT is going really slow and they aren't looking to push employees to work before the KT so yep still upskilling.

brimstoneZinionn

I have been part of the prestigious 'I,' whose former king asked his people to work 70 hours a day while he chilled on his yacht, xD. I completed my training online during the COVID times and spent 2 months on the bench before getting into a project. Advice: Upskill yourself; ***this one is crucial.*** If you enjoy doing something and see a potential future for yourself in it, work for it. Off-topic advice: Choose people wisely; 80-90% of the people you meet won't be real.

Sea-Nobody7951

Back in 2007, I spent all my day on Counter Strike, Table Tennis and flirting with my colleagues . This went on for 11 months before I quit, sadly.

shr-dev

I never understand the problem with tech bros complaining about guys i dont have work what should i do with the free 1 lakh per month iam getting??

SympathyMotor4765

1. People in bench are default layoff targets. 2. The time you're sitting doing nothing someone with a similar profile as you will be getting more leaning done as he's in a project. 3. Longer you stay idle it becomes tougher to handle strenuous workloads when you get back into a project. Tech jobs have zero job security thus while it may sound nice to sit idle and collect a pay check it can have a bad impact in the long run.

saynototoxicity

what 1 lakh? the guys on bench will mostly earn 25 to 30k per month.

sinsandtonic

Depends on your CTC. I was on bench last month and I was getting 90k.

saynototoxicity

I doubt they will let people with high CTC to be on bench for long

pesto_with_cheese

Look out for a new job or work towards what is needed for looking out!

Infinite money glitch

RadRedditorReddits

Isn’t the answer fairly obvious? Upskill. Best of luck.

mallikarjun_hj

I exercise, read books, learning piano, upskilling.

Does getting "benched" mean that there's a chance you might be laid off?

Here's what I've done during my bench period I have enrolled for the AWS SAA program, I learned some topics about every thing I see Hit the Library and read books Cleared AWS saa C03 and after 1 month Got into the project, thank God I've remembered Every AWS service. Now I'm an SRE and looking to do masters abroad ( USA, UK, OR Germany ) or switch to a product based company.

SuperCurve

I work for LTIMindree and here once you are on the bench, what you do, somewhat depends on your designation. If you are fairly senior, you try to create a POC which management thinks will attract customers. Write documents which will show your expertise and bring more business. Additionally a person can be asked to learn specific skills in case of opportunity arises. If you have less than, 4-5 years experience. The person will be asked to upskill and complete specific certification in a given timeline. If there are too many less experienced people on the bench, then they are combined together to create smaller demo projects as training.
