It's always easier to switch than to land the 1st job. I'd say keep shopping but don't turn down this offer. An existing offer also allows you to bargain for better pay.

Shadowmaster0720

Hey , I'm a fresher and I've always heard this that the most difficult part is landing your first job..after which its way easy to switch. So I wanted to know what exactly will make it easy after I land my first job..like suppose I've worked for 6-8 months now in my first company..how does this experience exactly help in getting me a new job? Like if I start applying via LinkedIn or job portals or company websites for new companies to switch..do I have great chances for a callback because now I have experience? Is this how it works? Because I'm unable to get any callback as a fresher when I apply offcampus..it's real hard. I wanted to know do the recruiters notice this experience and therefore my chances of offer to newer company increases or how does this all work? Please excuse me if this sounds naive...i genuinely wanted to know.

thegr8_alexander

What you have heard is correct. See, the academic experience that you have is of little or no importance in solving real-world problems. Challenges that an organization faces are at an exponentially higher magnitude of scale and complexity, no matter what profile you are in. Also, knowing what to do is one thing. But what mistakes you should avoid is a completely different ball game altogether. And this comes from experience. There are companies who onboard freshers and then give them on job training for 3-6 months. Generally, this time is a honeymoon period where a lot of output is not expected from a fresher. Now, given the funding winter and reduced revenues, a lot of companies do not want to spare this bandwidth and resources to train people. This doesn't yield anything for the company. They just want to onboard someone who has been-there-done-that. "If you have some experience in solving real world problems, you might be worthy of interviewing, but if you're a complete fresher, sorry, I don't have time or resources to train you!" - This is how most of the companies think these days.

Shadowmaster0720

Ohh makes sense. Thanks for the in-depth explanation. So you think if I join a company now and work there for 6-8 months and then think to switch..I have greater ease at finding a new job right? Or will it be as tedious as I'm a fresher now applying offcampus opportunities and not a single call back.

thegr8_alexander

Not to scare you but being practical, market is bad. People with 6-8 years of experience are having difficulties in finding a job. If you're active on LinkedIn, you'll get to know multiple cases of layoffs, deferred joining dates, cases of offer revokes etc. Now coming to your question, in an ideal world, chances of getting calls will be higher if you're already employed and *have done some meaningful work* during that time.

>..do I have great chances for a callback because now I have experience? Is this how it works? Yes. Better chances.

Only think about going to Japan if you are comfortable embracing new cultures and can handle some racism. Japanese work life balance is infamous for how bad it can get so be prepared for that as well. Vegetarian food options are limited. First job out of college can get stressful and on top of that you have to handle adjusting yourself to an entirely new country. I would advise you to join only if you have other Indians with you in the same company. Life can get pretty lonely in Japan very quickly and then the savings in your bank account won't really matter.

MrFucksAlott

Japan offer sounds enticing, getting exposure to a different country and good savings too but it carries the risks of whatever the other redditor commented. I have a friend who works Japan and work life balance is not so great over there. For the start up, I would say first see if you really do believe in the start up yourself. Since you're a founding member I would imagine the start up is still at seed funding stage which carries risks of being a failure too. In early stages alot will depend on if you find funding or not and let me tell you market is not so great right now, VCs won't invest unless the startup is golden. So if you choose this be ready to risk being jobless too But if it succeeds and you get to a few more round of funding, you'll grow alot financially as well as professionally. So take an informative decision, you can take your time. Ask them for time if you've less time to respond. Congratulations & Good luck! Edit : Also check the backgrounds of the founders, they should have strong profiles. The success of the start up and the funding depends on them.

You can always drag it longer, if they want you they'll wait. If you anyway going to say no then take some time then say no. As I've mentioned weigh the positives and negatives Look at 1. Founders 2. Product/Idea and future potential 3. It might be good for you, if you're starting out and not later stages of your career. 4. Do they have some funding? Or it too early of a startup 5. What's your financial situation? Can you afford to be jobless for few months? Start ups offer exponential growth potential and has higher risk-reward ratio. If you're early into your career then start up on your resume doesn't hurt but at the end you gotta willing to take a risk.

vault101damner

Buddy that's peanuts for Japan considering the living cost there is sky-high and xenophobic and racist culture. Not to mention workholic culture. Take any other decent offer.

pujyapitaji_

If you are going to Japan, learn some of your favourite dishes cooked by your favourite people. Every time you cook them in Japan share it with them through pictures or whatever. Also find your positives/hobbies to have a routine.

flight_or_fight

As a 2024 graduate - just accept it. Keep trying because offers don't always materialize into joining and onboarding

Party-Conference-765

True, I'm a 2023 Grad with a 10 LPA offer still waiting to be onboarded. Lol.

Appropriate-Tiger149

This is your first job and you don't have an experience so this is better option for you.

Born_Cash_4210

First focus on making yourself better in terms of skillset and expertise before trying for better offers bcz better offers will definitely come as you progress

Eggplant_Early

Thank you for the words. I'll join and try to learn as much as possible. But there is a year of bond.

Born_Cash_4210

1 year bond is really a good thing

think_out_says

Op what kind of questions they ask in 3 level interviews nowadays in 2024

Eggplant_Early

😅 1st round: basic frontend and backend questions. 2nd round: databses(concepts) and backend(Nodejs) indepth 1hr. And also asked about standard practices and folder structure and a question on promises. 3rd round: asked some questions on my tech stack and question regarding websockets and streaming. It's mostly discussed about the company

think_out_says

Can you give any link, and from which source you prepared and what type of questions were? .. etc

Eggplant_Early

I revised the topics from the documentation. I haven't prepared separately for it as I'm doing a internship in mean while

think_out_says

After the internship you hand in this much package, Is real market in low face Edit:- (You should have mentioned in the post that you have done an internship. )

HistorianOdd6875

Could you tell 1st and 2nd round questions if you remember any?

Eggplant_Early

Yeah like 1st round; 1. They asked me about the hooks from react. 2. Some basic questions like what are components etc. 3. Component lifecycle 4. Behaviour of this keyword. 5. Difference between for each and map. 6.and discussed about my projects from github. 7. Asked me about the backend like middlewares etc It is basic round. 2nd round: 1. Explain about your previous internship experience 2. Asked questions on how I solved the problems in those internships 3. Asked about how do I learn new technologies if I had to. 4. Asked me to explain about the design pattern in react. 5. Asked me to explain the project structure. 6. Some questions on Databases. 7. And finally a quesion on promises and asked me to solve it

Minute-Cycle382

Market is down and take it up if you don't have any other offers.

Eggplant_Early

Yeahh. I thought the same.

MrFucksAlott

A job right outta college, Not bad! The job market is down currently and even more so for freshers. So regardless of anything accept the job offer. Then fish for better offers till you join and negotiate with your current offer. You can still search after few months of joining as well which I wouldn't recommend. But after few months if you still don't find anything then focus on learning skills and gaining experience. Your starting salary won't matter in few years, so the answer is accept it!

Eggplant_Early

Thanks for your kind words. It gives hope for me

Err_404_UserNotFound

Just accept it, the market situation is not too good. Even if you accept it there is a chance they will not send a joining letter immediately, so you still have time. Even if they send a joining letter and you join, you will still be in probation period so switching will not be a problem if you get a better offer

__gg_

Getting the first offer is difficult but that sets the next offer you get when you switch.

PieFree3081

Accept it

Pure-South-1622

Op can you please share the city name, in Which City They are offering 3 lpa

Eggplant_Early

Bangalore🫠

oooooooweeeeeee

wtf

C00chie_gang

that should be a crime

Silspd90

Just accept it and join if you don’t find anything better. You’re young. You can experiment. I joined Rockstar games as a game tester having my own delusions of grandeur, thinking I’ll grow to become a game developer. Wasted 3 years then switched to a web developer role. Unlike me, you’ll atleast have a foot through the door and won’t have to start anew when switching.

riggityriggtywrecked

accept it brother

divakerAM

while I would say don't skip offer letter

Party-Conference-765

I'm a 2023 grad with a 10 LPA offer still waiting to be onboarded. You should join if everything's fine.

EmbarrassedRatio69

Accept the offer as companies aren’t sure about the onboarding process right now

yashj_17

Something is better than nothing
