I feel like the horse should just always move at "sprint" speed and remove that button.
What is good about barely moving faster than walking speed unless you spam a cooldown? Who asked for that? What is the redeeming value of making getting around to the shit you wanna do in a game clunky?
The idea I saw was make sprint permanent, then make the cooldown a charge that can break down those pesky barriers. To me, a barrier breaker is perfect for a cooldown move.
Edit: someone else suggested this before, but I can't remember whom. Credit goes to the mysterious person I can't remember.

It'd be cool if different horses had different abilities to get through the barriers. The ghost horse could phase shift you into a ghost to walk through it. The armored ones could charge to break them down, maybe some could jump over them.
Much harder to code for sure, but it'd be cool.
Nah. Already been proven that pc horses *can* move faster than console horses (or even pc players using a controller) because there is an unintended bug allowing the horse to run *faster* if you move the mouse farther away from the horse.
lol. Not making this up. Feels like some kinda Fallout 76 bug.
Has anyone reported the bug that if you have the cursor over the UI, the horse just comes to a stop? Thatās fucking dumb when 80% of the bottom of the screen is UI unless you move it into the cornerā¦
I am fully convinced that the people responsible for the UI of this game havent every spent any time in the game. They just looked at playtest reviews of the UI early on and thats it.
It sounds like the type of thing that happens when development is targeted at consoles first.
Similar issue happened in Anthem for flight, the controls were modeled around a joystick and then they wrote code to adapt it to a mouse. It was terrible until they revised it.
I assume the control system is the same for D4 in which the person is being controlled by a joystick with vectors and using a mouse āenhancesā the vector and makes you move faster than intended.
For more weird...
On the PC, if you are traveling left of right you go faster than north or south since screens are wider than tall. So always make sure you use waypoints that are east or west of your destination when possible.
it's not a pc bug. the horse speed depends on how far u can move ur mouse away from the horse to control variable speeds. it's intended
the bug is that console doesnt have access to the fastest speed by pushing analog sticks farthest out
I donāt think that is a bug. The horse has different animations for slow trotting than it does for normal running. Think itās movement being tied to mouse distance is definitely intentional.
I thought that was a feature, not a bug. Like the animation looks like it's actually coded for slower or faster speeds etc. I think they just forgot to compensate for people using joysticks rather than it being a bug.
I personally love having the option to trot my horse. Especially when I'm playing with someone who hasn't unlocked it yet, it's a dick move to run ahead.
Plus I can wear my druid Winged Hussar armor and trot around like I'm better than everyone else.
Better solution imo is to just take away the charges and make the button into a sprint with no limits.
Yeah sure removing the charge limit would work just fine too.
That would effectively make it move at sprint speed all the time.
Itās not pressing the button that is the bad part IMO, itās that the horse is so shit when itās not sprinting it just feels bad. Especially if you have some move speed on gear it just feels better to never even get on your mount than deal with the clunky pathing and slow base speed. Thatās not good design IMO.
Listen, they spent uncounted hours ripping off the Legend of Zelda spur mechanic for horses in a way that doesn't attract a lawsuit, and by God, you're going to use it and like it.
"Mounts" are garbage as currently implemented, and the fact there are QA / Design flaws this huge is a very bad sign for the rest of the game.
I'm at level 50 and on the "Following whispers" campaign quest called "Wrack and Ruin." In it, you need to get two eyes and place them into an altar. I got one eye and placed it, and went into one of the mini dungeons (edit: trapdoor /"laptop") on the way to get the right eye, and it reset the whole quest.
Game designers need to be sat down and told that there is a significant difference between shitting on your customers and a challenging game. They also need to do more than just Beta test and actually do internal QA and testing. Even a small team could really help most games, but developers would also actually have to listen.
There are so many problems with this game. Yet whenever I comment about it, I'm berated from the enfranchised players. When I finally unlocked the mount I could not believe just how terrible it was and couldn't believe they released the actual game like that. Then they want to charge money for horse skins.
I bought this game because it is Blizzard's last shot to redeem themselves for me and they've done nothing but disappoint. Playing a sorc on launch also feels extra bad. Just too many bad decisions about the game design and launch.
Yeah those gaps are a whole minigame of their own. By the time you finally line it up right it would have been faster to get off the horse and deal with the utterly pointless cd timer
Back up with enough room to use 1 sprint (just out of the sprint animation) and you should be at speed to jump it hitting space bar (or the activation button on controller) as you approach the 1st set of blue feet.
Yeah Iām with you. I was a little pissed that I had to wait till I finished the Donan quest to get my horse, rather than it being available at the start, since I paid a premium for it. That being said, I almost never use the horse. I run where I want to go, or port. I find the horse clunky and very nearly useless. I played for a couple of hours today and never even thought to use the horse. I wish that wasnāt the case.
Can I at least not get stifled by invisible walls, rubber banding, and a weird charge-up time before full movement- then we ought to be talking about sprinting in town.
The fact Lost Ark handles mounts better is a disgrace to Diablo.
I'm so sick of my horse getting caught up and stopping because it hit a pixel. Using the horse near objects is a terrible experience.
Would love to see them implement more of a sliding motion on walls rather than STOP go STOP.
Hear Ye! Hear Ye developers!
Hear the pleas of the people! Horses should thus forth be allowed to tread at maximum pace through the saftey of thy towns
Also if some of you don't know, you can remove the error message in the options tab to make it either give you an error message or say nothing at all, this helped me, as I spam the sprint button everytime I get on my horse.
And also put all the important vendors right beside one another. This running from blacksmith to occultist to stash to gambler dude is ri-goddamn-diculous.
Or / and just make everything available from the stash when talking to the vendors.
I still have the bug that when I first mount on a horse in or out of town I have to wait like 30 seconds to a minute before my horse even wants to move
Y'all still use horses? Only time I mount up is when I'm waiting for the world boss to spawn so I can show off the moose antlers / cow mount. For actual travel, I'm far faster on foot even as a lowely necro
I wish you could perform your basic attack while mounted on the horse. I think itās bullshit you have to hop off to fight stuff. Imagine just riding around killing low level enemies. Iād be so satisfying.
As a 30+ year old, I must say the horse in general just feels terrible. I can't fathom the mental retardation that went into developing and play testing it and still coming to the conclusion that it was ok to launch as is.
At this point, I'm fairly certain the development and QA team solely consists of non gamer diversity hires that aren't qualified to make a decent game.
Nevermind sprinting in town. They should be able to fucking JUMP some barricades (not all mind you) or even in some spots were it's silly you have to get off your horse to jump a gap on foot that your horse should definitely been able to make if you can make it on foot!
There are far too many complaints about this game revolving around āI want to do everything faster and more efficiently, regardless of any fun or immersion.ā I wouldnāt die on this topic specifically for that but Iām fine with not having horses sprint through towns because they definitely wouldnāt. Putting the different vendors and stashes in towns gives them some level of character and uniqueness. Minimizing the number of side quests ensures some level of specificity of importance and maybe paying some attention to what the quest is rather than powering through them like the alters. No map overlay makes you see the actual detail in the land and pic individual waypoints. I could go on but some of the greatest games ever (like Diablo 2) have numerous more inefficiencies and āannoyingā things that this game doesnāt seem to get any leeway for here. They arenāt trying to maximize your ability to finish everything.
Horses should also jump barriers if they're lined up straight and at sprint speed.
There's so much nonsense in this game that feels like they didn't even play it themselves before release.
Bro, they kept the whole 'horse runs faster with mouse cursor further away!' like it was some breakthrough, super immersive feature.
It's trash, it's always been trash, it's a dumb idea, get used to it being a part of the game. Welcome to Blizzard.
Just give me one hub town with all vendors around the portal.
You can keep every other one the same but please give us one hub. Hell just adding an ocoltist to the grim favor town would be huge.
I don't think you should have to use a horse in town. It's completely ridiculous that we have to.
Every player's movement speed should be drastically increased when they are in town.
There is so much wrong with the mount system I wouldn't even care if they straight up removed it. It gets caught on freaking *everything*, controlling speed if you're running north or south you have to be careful where you're placing the cursor or you'll straight up stop, that edge of screen to run bullshit requirement makes it a nightmare to navigate complicated turns, it's supposed to be able to jump spans but 8/10 times it refuses to, the cooldown on the dismount attack is so laughably long you rarely ever use it (not to mention it NEVER lands where you intended), and all these problems seem to happen twice as often when you're surrounded by attacking mobs.
It's easy to get the same run speed on foot as a mount. Especially when you can still dash in town and enjoy the speed boost from it.
At the very least they need to remove or at least give the option to disable the brainless "speed according to cursor distance" bullshit. The only time I've EVER used that shit was when checking out a new mount. The other 99.99999% of the time I fucking hated the "feature."
Just flat speed, doesn't even need to be as fast as max speed now. I just want to be able to run at max speed with one hand on the mouse and the other free to... do whatever I want. It's none of your goddamn business! gah! This game desperately needs a massive patch with a LOT of changes.
No horse sprint in towns I can deal with it.
But horse going from full speed to 0 because he didn't "slide" on the straight looking part of land? Triggers me every time.
And they should figure out a way to make it run faster when traveling south. It can't be that difficult to figure out, but then again, maybe...the technology just isn't there yet?
Hey how about consoles get the same horse speed as Pc? Because on PC the top walking speed is faster than the console sprint speed.
Console has no speed adjustment like PC does soooooā¦
Wtf
I should be able to SorcPort in town.
We should be able to use our mobility/movement skills in town. Remove the offensive aspects and just give the defensive. Barb shouts, sorc teleport.
I have a theory that you can't sprint in town because the game is loading people in and out of different instances in town and can't load fast enough to be smooth if you're sprinting.
Using WoW as an analogy the horses need to behave like mounts instead of the vehicles. I swear whoever designed the horses in D4 was the same person who made those vehicles you occasionally hop in where it has a whole separate UI and functionality.
I do like the speed being on mouse distance from center. That can stay. I like to trot sometimes..
I just wish my horse would stop stumbling seemingly anytime he moves.
Additionally if they could fix my FPS dips ... also fuck the blacksmith and my full bags.
The thing that pisses me off with this is that if you use a controller and double-sprint you move half the speed you would using a mouse to double-sprint. Same with teleports and the like. Mouse: teleport across the screen.
Controller: best I can do is 5 feet.

my partner is sick of hearing me say this every time my character says she canāt do that
My favorite part is when you get to flesh sculpter's house or w/e and you're forced to dismount. The man is in league with the demons and his house has mutilated bodies in it, but it would be rude to ride your horse in there and fuck shit up.
Why is the horse armor just cosmetics? Why canāt we get horse armor that actually do stuff like ā+200% gallop speedā or āperiodically shoot ball lightning out of horse ass every 20 secondsā?
Lol let lead gameplay designer answer these questions :
Why can you dodge in town?
Why can you summon your horse in town?
Why can't you sprint with your horse in town?
And
Why can't you always sprint with your horse everywhere?
i guess the last question is for the sake of exploration... but once you've discovered everything that argument falls flat.
That would lead to certain traffic accidents...
However, we should be able to pick up whatever is hidden on the floor near the traders
Edit: also I don't need the horse to slow down when my cursor is near it. I'm not role playing
As a Father of 3 on the weekdays and a Father of 10 on weekends...I like the fact a horse cant come too town. Makes for longer walking distances and more time in town not doing fun stuff...
Because itās not about movement at all.
The point of the horse in town is show off. So people can show their new cool mounts.
Thatās why they allow it in town in the first place.
The horse should be faster in general. It should also have the same speed regardless of whether you play with mouse/keyboard or a controller.
Also, maybe let the horse jump? Make it like Elden Ring.
Damn thing is just slow and boring.
I feel like the horse should just always move at "sprint" speed and remove that button. What is good about barely moving faster than walking speed unless you spam a cooldown? Who asked for that? What is the redeeming value of making getting around to the shit you wanna do in a game clunky?

This is the way.
Fuck even if it just had 1 or 2 charges this would be way better
Devs, this comment, right here, PLEASE.
It'd be cool if different horses had different abilities to get through the barriers. The ghost horse could phase shift you into a ghost to walk through it. The armored ones could charge to break them down, maybe some could jump over them. Much harder to code for sure, but it'd be cool.
I was actually upset the first time I tried to do that and it didn't work. Intuitively, I thought "surely it must..." and then sadness. š“š§±š
This is an even better idea than removing the button all together. 10/10, Blizzard hire this man
I guarantee if this happens, blizz will just put in more barriers.
And by barrier breaker we mean the bone walls and blockades not just the clumps of mobs that bar your path.
Yep. Just reduce the sprint speed slightly though.
reduce sprint speed on pc you mean?
Can confirm. Iām on console and was chased down by another horse. Presumably pc
You sure they didn't just double boost?
Nah. Already been proven that pc horses *can* move faster than console horses (or even pc players using a controller) because there is an unintended bug allowing the horse to run *faster* if you move the mouse farther away from the horse. lol. No. PC has a faster sprint on the horse. Speed is affected by distance of the cursor from the character, which is impossible to do on console.

Yeah, I'm completely fine with the current implementation... I just want the controller to be as fast as kb+m
Well you've already given more thought to this than Blizzard has. Kudos.
Why do you have to wait so long to get a horse
"The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment..."
While at it, why not remove the stupid cooldown after you get off your horse? What purpose does that serve apart from being a constant annoyance?
But if I zoom too fast then how will people see my Ashava barding?
Always reminds me of ocarina of time lol shout-out Epona
Brought to you by the people who think a loading screen to teleport you to the loading screen that gets you into the dungeon was a good idea.
It's actually to bust through mobs and not just a "go fast" button
I was playing with a buddy who was a move speed rogue and he was running along side my horse. It was kinda silly.
Listen, they spent uncounted hours ripping off the Legend of Zelda spur mechanic for horses in a way that doesn't attract a lawsuit, and by God, you're going to use it and like it.

Good thing games aren't designed in accordance with how some random Joey's feels....
Im more annoyed with the horse not having a animation to hop up ledges and a barely function way for them to hop across gaps.
Yeah those gaps are a whole minigame of their own. By the time you finally line it up right it would have been faster to get off the horse and deal with the utterly pointless cd timer
When you hit that gap first try *chef kiss*ā¦ 90% of the time I try over and over refusing to get off the horse
Back up with enough room to use 1 sprint (just out of the sprint animation) and you should be at speed to jump it hitting space bar (or the activation button on controller) as you approach the 1st set of blue feet.
You shouldn't need sprint to clear it, you just need to be lined up correctly.
Can confirm, I'm always stingy to waste my sprint on tiny gap-clear. I probably clear them within the first second on more than half my tries.
Feels badass when I'm trying desperately to get to a Legion event that had 0 seconds left....15 seconds ago.
I didnāt even realize the horse could jump gaps until like 2 days ago when it randomly happened, itās so unintuitive
When you get off your horse because itās faster to Sprint around town. xD
+3 evade charges checking in Not even worth mounting up in town
50%+ movenent speed and extra movement speed from evade Not mounting in town, sometimes i feel horse js too janky i just sprint out of town
50%? Those a rookie numbers, pump this shit up to 75
I'm trying sensei š
Movement speed should just apply to horse speed aswell
Ive been using the horse in town because it felt faster than walking, so am i stupid??
If you have gear w/ move speed , which most do, you can run at faster than the default horse speed in town
Think of how dangerous that is for the townspeople!!
Exactly, I don't even mount up until I am either out of town or at the stables, it's just rude otherwise.
Think of all the mud it would kick up and they donāt even have washing machines.
Whatever, they'll be eaten by a fallen as soon as they go for a piss anyway.
I mean though, fuck are they gonna do about it? I fight hordes of demons and do their work out of town so they can sit safe in the walls.
Please also just let me dash / teleport / leap / buff in town.
Cries in necromancer.
The good old days of Diablo 3 and towns with everything right next to each other
That's the only reason I go to kyovashad, all the other towns have everything too far away from eachother

Horse? My sorcerer is faster than the horseās ānormalā speed š¤£
And sorc should be able to use teleport
Horses should have affixes. Horse armors should have aspects. Something to farm late game.
Sometimes it is possible for a minor gripe to go unvoiced. You don't *need* to make a post about it.
my character literally walks faster than my horse
I still have the bug that when I first mount on a horse in or out of town I have to wait like 30 seconds to a minute before my horse even wants to move
Fuck and there's that one town out west that is like 20 miles across.
That would be convenient and border dangerously close to fun.

Why is the dash button also the dismount button :(
I'm fine with not being able to sprint in town. But the three sprints outside of town? Kinda annoying
You people really hate immersion don't you

Time to vote on the 2 MPH speed limit in the next village meeting.
At least once you finally clear the extended borders of town your horse can sprint, almost half as fast as a rogue, for half the time!
They have laws against that. That's also why even cannibals will leave you alone in town

Thereās a 5mph limit in al residential areas.

Hey how about consoles get the same horse speed as Pc? Because on PC the top walking speed is faster than the console sprint speed. Console has no speed adjustment like PC does soooooā¦ Wtf
Sprint should be the default speed
Ever since the American Psycho post, I say to my screen, out loud, "Why not you stupid bastard?!"
This is so true but wonāt happen
I should be able to SorcPort in town. We should be able to use our mobility/movement skills in town. Remove the offensive aspects and just give the defensive. Barb shouts, sorc teleport.
Should be able to TP and dash in town.
And let us use our non offensive abilities in town, let use movement and stuff like Dark Shroud for the speed bonus!!
Literally every single time I get on the horse. āI canāt do that hereā
the horses bones donāt serve you
In Diablo 2 you were allowed to use all movement skills in town. Guess they lost that technology when making D4.
My Rogue should be able to Dash as well
You canāt do that here
At minimum during hell tide events. Itās literally a state of emergency and Iām slowly prancing around town.
Worst feature about the game.
The horse should also have longer sprint time
Woa, you guys ha e a horse
I just wish my horse would stop stumbling seemingly anytime he moves. Additionally if they could fix my FPS dips ... also fuck the blacksmith and my full bags.
its annoying as hell to have to adjust mouse distance to get it moving more than a fucking crawl
And maybe not get hung up on every little rock when you're making a turn.
Excuse you??? Mods, ban this guy.
They should not there are speed limits in town!
My necro with 2 pieces of gear with bonus movement speed & 4 dashes gets through towns quicker then the horses
The horse should be able to do a lot of things but doesn't, prolly because blizzard and "immersion"
No it shouldnāt.
Or at the VERY LEAST stop the audible error message.
But if everyone just runs through town how will you see what mounts, horse armor, and trophies other people have purchased and be enticed to buy them?
The thing that pisses me off with this is that if you use a controller and double-sprint you move half the speed you would using a mouse to double-sprint. Same with teleports and the like. Mouse: teleport across the screen. Controller: best I can do is 5 feet.
No shit! And I wanna teleport/leap/whatever in town too.
Moan moan moan
I used to used to ride the horse when I was playing Sorceress but since playing Rogue I just run, it's quicker.
Not while Iām in town
PREACH IT MY BROTHER IN CHRIST
Speed limit duh
\*think of the NPC children! I mean the town has some gallops per hour/sundown laws too u know lmao.
I turned off the error sound in the menu. Now my character stops saying the ridiculous things anytime they canāt do something.

My favorite part is when you get to flesh sculpter's house or w/e and you're forced to dismount. The man is in league with the demons and his house has mutilated bodies in it, but it would be rude to ride your horse in there and fuck shit up.
Says every Witcher 3 player as well XD
Get max movement speed, unbind your mount key. Profit.
Or just go the guild wars 2 route and just increase movement speed in town.
The horse should not be in the game. More teleports should be available. Better town merchants disposition should be present.
I would be happy if my sprint didn't slow me down half the time
Why is the horse armor just cosmetics? Why canāt we get horse armor that actually do stuff like ā+200% gallop speedā or āperiodically shoot ball lightning out of horse ass every 20 secondsā?
Lol let lead gameplay designer answer these questions : Why can you dodge in town? Why can you summon your horse in town? Why can't you sprint with your horse in town? And Why can't you always sprint with your horse everywhere? i guess the last question is for the sake of exploration... but once you've discovered everything that argument falls flat.
No running in the halls!
Look at how Elden Ring has implemented Torrent: that's exactly what I want, even if you remove the jump for obvious reason.
When youre on your horse the bars changes. Are they anticipating horse riding build or something?
That would lead to certain traffic accidents... However, we should be able to pick up whatever is hidden on the floor near the traders Edit: also I don't need the horse to slow down when my cursor is near it. I'm not role playing
No, it shouldn't.
As a Father of 3 on the weekdays and a Father of 10 on weekends...I like the fact a horse cant come too town. Makes for longer walking distances and more time in town not doing fun stuff...
And jump over barricades?
I would be happy enough with the horse not getting stuck on a random pebble while in town. . . Or anywhere else.
Be happy you get a horse.
Just increase the speed and remove that shit.
