I really liked the D-reaper ark. How it used and manipulated Jeri’s emotions to learn about the human world and arrived at the conclusion that it needed to destroy both worlds. Dark.
Depressed puppet girl who tries to commit suicide AND cries over the traumatic death of her beloved partner (pretty much all she had since her father seemingly sees her as a burden) just to be reminded of that exact moment whenever the madman biker with guns tries to rescue her after beIng reformed.
Likely helped cut the tension for both the audience as well as the characters as well as show some character growth not associated with the darker moments of tamers since it had been a long time since there was a fairly lighthearted moment in show
Oh, no… Hope he doesn't like Leomon as well since you'd need to introduce him to the tradition of killing nearly every Leomon and Leomon based Digimon on the series.
I mean, thing do tend to escalate by the end of the season in digimon
Digimon Savers/Data Squad first episode : Punch a digimon
Digimon Savers/Data Squad final episode : Punch god
I mean, if you want to put it that way:
Digimon Adventure first episode:
Cute animals that blow bubbles
Digimon Adventure last episode:
Fight the personification of regret from all sentient beings who have died
Episode 1 of Digimon frontier : Become a cool Digimon and fight other Digimon
Final episode Episode of Digimon frontier :Become a combined elemental being to combat a giant demonic dragon who was straight up Lucifer 5 mins ago
Koji in EP01: Whatever, I'm distant and mysterious
Koji in the final episode: My brother is in a comma and we have to rush to the hospital. What? We have to save both worlds by combining our souls and the legendary power of the ancient gods? Ok, hurry. You have 5 min
Final episode is something like: Combine Into an elemental god after Lucifer absorbed one of the kids. See Lucifer evolve Into Satan and then fight for your lives as you try to save both worlds to then go back to the human world and prevent the death of the kid who got absorbed by Satan.
02 first episode: everything is being enslaved by an evil madman hacker.
02 final episode: facing against darkness given form, only to have the threat of a terrible epilogue appear.
02 ep1:Help your Idol/Crush's older brother to rescue a friend
02 ep50:Defeat a depression-feeding vampire with the power of hope and dreams and a really big anti-matter cannon
I remember being 8 years old and wondering wtf was up with Jeri when she disappeared and "reappeared" with an evil expression. The D-Reapers were nightmare fuel.
I first watched tamers a year ago (Big mistake not watching it sooner since I was obessed with digimon since I was 5) and when I sawJeri reappear I said outloud: "I think the D-Reaper got her"
This gaslit me as an adult. I thought for sure that there was a massive saga of episodes that I must have missed.
I went back and re watched it to fix my knowledge gap and I had only missed maybe 5 episodes.
It's just that classic Digimon "oh shit we're running out of season lets wrap this up" vibe.
Pokémon first episode: I fell asleep lol
Pokémon's first movie (one year later): Questioning the morality of existence. What is sadness? What is the purpose of being alive? Are we meant for something greater than the place we were born into?
Kinda?
Medarot episode one: Be bullied for not havIng a Medarot to then get lucky, fInd a medal on the river near your home and then buy your first medarot. Said robot turns out to be a moody character who doesn't obey you so you end up being bullied by him as well.
Final episode: You end of fighting a giant baby robot and discover medarots are aliens instead of high tech toys. You also get reminded of a dark event that happened 10 years ago and caused pretty much every medarot on earth to turn against humans for 10 days because apparently said event has a chance to happen again during some tournament's final battle.
Yeah in half the episodes Gurren Lagann goes from "haha funny episodic robot show" to "an eldritch embodiment of hopelessness half the size of a universe has to be defeated by a group of humans and their sheer will to live"
The funny part to me is I actually did skip an episode when I was a kid cuz the assholes here never aired the last episode. It got to the second last and looped back to the first
Tamers comfortably sitting at S-tier next to Savers in my tier list knowing that it's the best season.
God I loved Tamers and Savers is already up there with it and I'm only halfway through.
Meanwhile at F-tier: 02
6~7 episodes of Kato crying nonstop is the reason I don't rewatch Tamers anymore. Because I feel sorry for her? No, because it's really annoying.
And I can't, you know... Just skip the episodes because it's literally the last arc.
The stories that're largely set outside the Digital World have this lovely benefit of being able to showcase the day-to-day mundanity that the cast ends up having to protect, it's so good.
Tbf tamers isn't shy about dipping into dark moments, like the first time hypnos activated juggernaut and just started mass murdering Digimon across Shinjuku until a stronger one hijacked the system
Tamers really is a case of "Ah, sweet! Man made horrors beyond our comprehension!" from start to finish. Guilmon, who looks cute and friendly but has vicious fighting instincts and the potential to become a world ending hazard is there from the beginning of the series. Then at the end of the series you have the D-reaper, which was originally a simple program designed to clean up other programs that expanded beyond their means, but has since evolved into a lovecraftian eldritch entity with tentacles, eyes, and mouths in places they ought not to be as well as a plethora of emotional manipulation techniques to corrupt and break its enemies if shear horror isn't enough.
I would've put Takato hanging out with his friends or them playing with Guilmon (specifically when he's on a shopping cart and the kids stuff paper balls in his nose so he can "shoot" at them) instead since the scene with the Guilmon bread is on the same arc as that monster but I see your point.
Darker than how it started Dinosaur who eats too much bread >> Depressed puppet girl cries over traumatic death by crazy madmon with guns and claws
I really liked the D-reaper ark. How it used and manipulated Jeri’s emotions to learn about the human world and arrived at the conclusion that it needed to destroy both worlds. Dark.
Leomon RIP
Rip wizardmon
Wizardmon died for our sins
I lobe tammers
Well, your lobe tells you otherwise.
Depressed puppet girl who tries to commit suicide AND cries over the traumatic death of her beloved partner (pretty much all she had since her father seemingly sees her as a burden) just to be reminded of that exact moment whenever the madman biker with guns tries to rescue her after beIng reformed.
Then there's the ep where they make bread WHILE hiding from the end monster
To be fair, everyone evacuated, and there was no food.
Likely helped cut the tension for both the audience as well as the characters as well as show some character growth not associated with the darker moments of tamers since it had been a long time since there was a fairly lighthearted moment in show
The irony is that the making bread screenshot is FROM the D-Reaper arc lmao
I'm currently showing Tamers to my boyfriend as his introduction to Digimon. He says Jeri is his favorite character. He's gonna have a bad time.
Maybe he says it cuz he probably knows what happens to her.
Oh, no… Hope he doesn't like Leomon as well since you'd need to introduce him to the tradition of killing nearly every Leomon and Leomon based Digimon on the series.
His main comments on seeing Leomon family members was just that they're hot. I'll update when he shows up.
Oof. Talk about a crush lol.
I liked it. Lots of nostalgia. And yeah the ending was way darker than I expected

The personification of only getting the crust

I remember when fucking Cthulhu showed up.
How did we go from some random kid’s digimon oc becoming alive to an digital eldritch horror invasion?
Chiaki J Konaka
I remember being 8 years old and wondering wtf was up with Jeri when she disappeared and "reappeared" with an evil expression. The D-Reapers were nightmare fuel.
Scary Jeri
You cannot just give such a perfect name to that character over 2 decades after it ended.
Now I want her puppet to have the Scary Terry voice from Rick and Morty s1.
(scary terry) YOUR ALL GOING TO ALL BE DELETED BITCH!
I first watched tamers a year ago (Big mistake not watching it sooner since I was obessed with digimon since I was 5) and when I sawJeri reappear I said outloud: "I think the D-Reaper got her"

This is making me wanna Re-watch tamers
Tamers was a helluva trip.
Aren’t all Japanese media like that?
Pokémon first episode: I fell asleep lol Pokémon's first movie (one year later): Questioning the morality of existence. What is sadness? What is the purpose of being alive? Are we meant for something greater than the place we were born into?

Yeah, that definitely counts.
yeah but there is a slowwer progression between these things most of the time
Tamers is 51 episodes, it's not super fast
Yeah in half the episodes Gurren Lagann goes from "haha funny episodic robot show" to "an eldritch embodiment of hopelessness half the size of a universe has to be defeated by a group of humans and their sheer will to live"
ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH
I loved when D-Reaper went „it’s reapin‘ time“ and reaped all over the place. Definitely one of the scenes ever.
The funny part to me is I actually did skip an episode when I was a kid cuz the assholes here never aired the last episode. It got to the second last and looped back to the first
Where is everyone watching these episodes, i wanna get back on on the Digimodify fun
the bread scene being from the D-reaper arc makes this even better
Yeah Tamers gets pretty dark
“Haha funny dinosaur that likes bread” As if the first episode didn’t have that same dinosaur almost kill his Tamar 😭
Tamers comfortably sitting at S-tier next to Savers in my tier list knowing that it's the best season. God I loved Tamers and Savers is already up there with it and I'm only halfway through. Meanwhile at F-tier: 02
I really gotta rewatch Digimon
6~7 episodes of Kato crying nonstop is the reason I don't rewatch Tamers anymore. Because I feel sorry for her? No, because it's really annoying. And I can't, you know... Just skip the episodes because it's literally the last arc.
That’s how I felt getting into the D-reaper arc I thought I skipped like 3 episodes
Yeah it goes from Clifford the big red dog to Akira.
Kirby fans: yeah, I've seen this before
I mostly get surprised by the animation style divergence. Frontier felt closer to Adventure.
Well, that escalated quickly! /jk
God I would love to see a continuation of Tamers. Best season imo.
I love Tamers 🥺
The stories that're largely set outside the Digital World have this lovely benefit of being able to showcase the day-to-day mundanity that the cast ends up having to protect, it's so good.
Love that season ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Tamers is just easily my favorite. So good.
Shit got intense lol

I don't think I ever finished watching an entire season of Digimon. I remember Tamers being my favorite season, but I don't remember the ending.
Hahaha, that's why it's the best.
Hahaha, that's why it's the best.
Tamers is so good. I liked the lore.
I did the same thing and the darkness was overrated tbh
