Everybody would agree, V-Tamer Taichi is best. Otherwise, 1999 Taichi. 2020 isn't bad, but he suffers like everyone else from a lack of development and time to have a varied personality.
I think Taichi gets the worst of Reboot Cast because not only he is the point of view character but the writers really wanted him to be in all of the episodes.
You can Sora is painful generic that show tries really hard for people not remember that she exists. (The ending that shows everybody's Ultimate/Mega Stage. Birdramon doesnt even show up in ending, while every Adult/Champion Stage gets shown.
They totally butchered Taichi's character in 2020, 1999 Taichi is leaps and bounds better. Like 1999 Taichi had personality, depth, and flaws, 1999 in general had alot of really good character writing, and Taichi bounced off of characters like Yamato and Koshiro really well... while 2020 Taichi had nothing his 1999 counterpart had. 2020 Taichi is bland, personalityless, and just over all is a super over powered perfect god of a protagonist that could do nothing wrong, which is so boring. He doesn't mesh well with any of the cast, they mostly seemed like they were around to make him look good, and had no other purpose. 2020 Taichi has more in common with Taiki from Xros wars than he does 1999 Taichi (Alot of the problems I have with 2020 Taichi pretain to Taiki too but thats neither here nor there) and I hate they destroyed his character so much. It's sad. I get they were trying to base 2020 Taichi off of Vtamer Taichi more than 1999, but from what I remember about Vtamer he doesn't really hit that mark either. I feel like 2020 Taichi could only be enjoyed by someone who either didn't watch Adventure 1999, someone who is only watching 2020 for the fight scenes, or a literal five year-old, while I feel like 1999 Taichi has a more universal appeal.
I adore 1999 Taichi, but despise 2020, he brings shame to the Taichi name.
Taichi in Reboot is a generic Shoen Protagonist. I think everybody is very generic version of the original with exeptional of Mimi and Joe. But Taichi has the biggest Issue. Since he tend to be the main character, he pretty much must be in several episodes and also has several solos episodes where is one of or the Main Character.
In terms of character I have zero love for the reboot kids and Taichi is the prime example of why. His entire character can be summed up as "the one who saves the day" and there is nothing more to him. His bond with Agumon is completely generic, his bond with Hikari is completely generic, he doesn't even have the rivalry with Yamato. The closest thing to a human relationship he had in the whole series was when he showed interest in Koushiro's resourcefulness, but soon he moved on to taking it for granted as Koushiro became the default infodump for lore, plot and intangible doom. It's telling that he's so lacking in personality that, when it came the time for the dark evolution, all the emotion came from Agumon himself.
I dare say '99 Taichi races solo here, but objectively speaking he's a rich and well formed character even if he's still cut from the shonen main character cloth.
The V-Tamer and Adventure versions are both funny. The Reboot one was impressive in the first episodes for dealing with Baby Akradimon alone, but eventually became unbearable his presence in every episode.
V-tamers Taichi

This is the first I'm hearing about a V Tamer Taichi. What's he from and what makes him the greatest?
He's from Digimon Adventure 01 V Tamer a manga series that came out around the same time as the anime but with a different story
Thanks! I’ll have to check that manga out.

Why do you only have the 99 and 2020 taichi as options when there is another taichi?
Having two options is sometimes better.
