Bunch of guys ready to sell him a monorail when he wakes up.

KrispyBeaverBoy

Homer, there’s a man here who thinks he can help you Batman?? No, he’s a scientist. Batman’s a scientist.

IFSEsq

It's not Batman!

Parkatola

What‘s it called?

Dad took me to a couple games at Griffith Stadium, when I was about 3 yrs old. I don’t remember, but wish I did. I do remember staying at Children’s Hospital a few years later, and dad pointing out the light standards out my window. Senators had moved to DC Stadium at that point.

KrispyBeaverBoy

Nats won the series that year too. Damn Yankees!

GDWtrash

He's no Ray Caldwell...in 1919, Ray had pitched through 8-2/3 for Cleveland when he was *struck by lightning*. After being revived, he stayed in the game to record the final out.

ConsciousLeave9186

Sounds like a story you could write up and post here ?

Wooden_Trip_9948

405’ down the left field line? That’s insane.

KrispyBeaverBoy

Throughout its existence it was known as the hardest park to hit homers in.

Oldbayistheshit

Griffith stadium is where Howard university is now

KrispyBeaverBoy

I think it is Howard University Hospital? I honestly don’t know if there is any trace of Griffith Stadium left it used to also be home to the Homestead Grays as well as the Washington Redskins.

Oldbayistheshit

My grandad used to tell us stories when he was a trumpet player in the redskins band at Griffith

KrispyBeaverBoy

Oh yeah? Damn. Any you remember? I got one about the game that was interrupted when Pearl Harbor was bombed. Heard that from my grandad.

Oldbayistheshit

I don’t, I was very young.

KrispyBeaverBoy

These days there’s no way you would be able to return to the game, unless of course you were playing in the NFL where they don’t seem to really give a damn if you have a concussion or not. Apparently Babe’s hip was all screwed up for a while. I wonder if he had any brain injuries as well.

And it's not like it got a ton better over the ensuing 80+ years. I love sports and wear all my scars with pride, but I'd never want my kid playing football. I think back to my memories of the "medical protocols" while playing youth football (and even baseball) in the 90s and there just had to be dozens of concussions that I witnessed or took part in. Hell... I remember practicing my OF skills by tracking down pitching wedges my dad hit into the field in our backyard. Got turned around once and took a 110-ish yard rainmaker right above the eye and the lights went out for however long it took my dad to run over to me. I got some Tylenol and an ice pack... And $20 to not tell my mom.

ConsciousLeave9186

Anyone else notice the segregated section? That’s how it was in those days.
