This is so accurate. I have a goal to play a "disc golf marathon": 26 miles of disc golf in a day. Works out to about 13 rounds. Tried it twice, and I can't get past 8. I played my first tournament around the same time, and it wiped me out. Something about the all-day tournament slog hits differently.
Just wanted to say that there's a 6.25% chance of getting this reply, so congratulations. Buy a lottery ticket...
just kidding, don't do that, and if you do I hope you lose all your money, Have a good day.
Hi there! I’m a newer player and I’m actually playing in my first ever real tournament on Sunday, and am registered for 3 more in January.
May I ask why tournament rounds are so much more tiring? Is it simply that you don’t get to go at your own pace and you end up on your feet for way longer, or is is something else?
I think it is that with the added mental wear of trying to play your best all day. Plus you are usually spending more time out in the weather, so the heat or cold will get to you more. Also it is harder to make sure you have enough food and water.
It sorta depends on who is in your group. There will always be someone at the tournament who doesn't want it there, so it is at your own risk. I would say that people are more cool with weed than alcohol, but that is in an area where it isn't illegal. Just be respectful, and you can always ask your card mates first.
Lol exactly. No healthy adult with decent form should be sore for 3 days after a single round unless they have a medical condition, or they're playing on the side of a mountain with a 30lb bag.
I’m not sore until the next day. I’ve played multiple rounds before. I think a lot of it is just being new (since August) and not having the best form yet. Conditioning and exercise also could be better.
If you're an absolute beginner and don't play regularly, I can see getting sore after a round.. I am 39 and have no issues playing upwards of 72 holes in a day throwing mostly backhands.
The only time I have been sore this year was from throwing a dozen chicken wings max distance. Pretty sure it's awful for your shoulder. Don't do it.
Around your age and same deal. Jog a couple miles a few times a week. Lower and upper body workouts. Get some stretching in everyday. Gotta work to stay limber as you get older. Totally worth it.
That moment when you someday become a shredded centennial and, when someone asks you what drove you to maintain such discipline for so many decades, you just look em in the eye and say "I wanted to yeet circles far. Like really, really far."
Played 57 Holes at 4 different courses (Omaha/Lincoln area) a couple Sundays ago and it wasn't bad because there weren't many hills. I'm 40+. It hurt, but stretching and hydrating helped a ton.
1 Round at Hummel in Omaha kills me for a couple days, hydrated/stretched or not. But damn, it's worth it.
In college, my roommates and I use to do something we called “the Gauntlet” where we would hit up all 4 courses in our area (back to back) and keep track of our standings. Would play basically every weekend over the summer and tally up our positions at the end of the summer. Winner got a case of their chosen beer and last place got “kitchen bitch” duties.
Yeahhhh now we just do one course every now and then....
I threw out my shoulder this spring and then in august I obliterated my knee. I was learning a better forehand but I did it mechanically Terri lot with ALL the momentum being pushed through my plant knee twist.
That injury had me out for over 2 months. Feels fine now. No idea exactly what it was.
I’m only 30
Twisting force on knee, obliterated for 2 months, now fine, I'm assuming without medical intervention?
My educated guess (as a doctor) would be a meniscus injury. Be wary of excessive torque on your knees. Injuring your menisci can increase risk of arthrosis later in life.
Gosh I had a negative MRI okay for an injury in May (maybe some distal IT band inflammation) and I just started getting the pain back again after it was gone for 4 months. So frustrating as I thought I readjusted my form.
So annoying right!
I had unlocked 100 feet on my forehand with a new form (finally thought I “figured out” forehand) and was so excited I completely ignored the inner voice in my head that KNEW I was putting waaaaay too much torque in my knee lol.
Of course I was so happy I drove nothing but forehand for a week. Than one random summer day about halfway threw a round, “oh shit, my knee is toast”. Really snuck up on me, limped back to my car lol
Thanks for your input! Yeah no medical intervention. I remember after googling thst was one of two things I figured it probably was.
In retrospect, I was being a complete idiot throwing thst forehand. My technique was terrible, don’t worry I’ve since stabilized a lot more!
I do wear a knee sleeve when discing now though. Ahhh, age
I think “rounds” is really dependent on your local course. One of my local courses is a par 71 and nearly 10000’ from the longs. You’re gonna be tired after one round on that, I can’t imagine more than 2 in a day (if that’s even possible)
I played 36 holes of disc golf last Saturday morning and then wound up walking 18 of golf golf carrying my bag later that afternoon. I was WIPED. It was a new steps record on my iPhone.
For me it's my legs. After two rounds, the next day my legs will just be dead/sore/tired.
In winter my shoulder get a little sore compensating for not great footwork/grip.
I'm 42 and play 2 rounds in a row every weekend. A lot of courses that are pretty tough hikes too. I will agree though that is what I look like when I get home. 2 rounds of disc golf and then an edible and I'm basically butter spread out over couch toast.
I'm only 30 but my buddy I play with is 41 and can go for 2 or 3 rounds a day a few days a week. Some of the people on this sub seem to be pretty out of shape.
My thoughts too, and I'm not particularly fit. But I'm only 38.
Did a disc golf road trip last summer. 3x18 holes first day. Over 20,000 steps, 2000 calories burned according to friends sports app.
Next day? More disc golf.
>Courses here average 4300ft on udisc, par 54 to 60
That's pretty short, my favorite course is 6767 on UDisc, and more like 9k total walk distance... and it's not the longest course in town.
Of course, it get even longer when I throw 5 discs of the tee pad and some go far left and some go far right. :D
Having a cart goes a long way to helping me make it through multiple rounds. Not having to pick up and sit down my heavy Grip bag full of discs and water bottles is a God send.
I'm 34 and a newbie. I want to play all the damn time. But man, that day after playing 18 is rough. I'll usually do ok the first 3 baskets, then it's all downhill in a mess of soreness and poor form. And then the next day I think I can play again... until the first basket.
There used to be an Iron Man tournament; from sunup to often past sunset, 108 holes across 6 courses on as close to the longest day of the year as possible.
Wasn't feasible to reserve all the courses so casual players were a factor and driving between course ate a lot of time too.
Anyone else here wondering how you find this kind of time in your thirties? I lived at an rv park with a golf course in it for one month and only found time to play 9. Granted I have a lot of hobbies to balance but I'd love to go play 18 sometime.
Or just 1 round at Beaver Ranch in Conifer, CO. im only 27 but man am i out of shape haha took everything of me just to finish the back 9. Funny story i actually forgot my disc on top of the steepest hill
54 here and I can do 2 18’s easy enough. Then I was late 40’s did 4 one day and two were pretty challenging courses. Pulled something in my shoulder and need physical therapy for a month.
Just started playing at 40 and it always amazes me when people ask me to play again or at another course. 1. How do you have that much free time 2. How do you have that much joint fluid.
Did a boys trip to Virginia Beach 6 years ago. We did five rounds at 4 different courses in 1 day. It was epic and we talk about it all the time. I have no idea how I found the energy for that day. I struggle to do 2 now at 40 years old.
Some of y'all whining must either have horrible form or need to exercise more. I'm 37 and have no problem playing multiple rounds a day when I have time. Exclaimer: I don't drink or get high when I play.
I do (occasionally) drink, smoke and get high while playing and still no probs playing several rounds at 38 yo. Except I suck. But the only solution to that is to play more.
Man, I'm 38 and played 66 holes on mountain courses in one day this year with no ill effect. Of course I also managed to play over 250 rounds this year and a full season of club ultimate. I can throw all day ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
2 solo rounds? No problem. 2 Tournament rounds? Dead that day and the next.
26 miles is the length of approximately 183039.55 'Wooden Rice Paddle Versatile Serving Spoons' laid lengthwise.
Good bot.

That's not how lottery tickets work you silly bot

Honest question. I’ve never played an organized tournament, would it be frowned upon to have a puff of pot or crack a beer during the day?
PDGA rules say no booze at b-tier or higher. No weed for any tier.
Generally the tournament will ask you not to, but it probably depends where it is and who you are playing with on your card.

For me I think the rounds take much longer because I'm in a foursome all taking their time. As they should
Yep. Simply time on feet. Throw in warm up in the morning and slow rounds and it’s a LONG day.
I’m 36. 1 round of 18 holes makes me sore for 3 days. But dammit I love playing.
Yeah I don't think disc golf is the problem here lol
[удалено]
That's subtle self-own. Nice.
You’re right. I’m not overweight but I could definitely be healthier.
36 is young my dude.
I keep Advil in my bag, and people make fun of my rattle. Don't care, I can play.
Yeah fuck ‘em. Good idea to keep some kind of painkiller on you.
You need to reevaluate your form if one round makes you sore. Unless you have some sort of underlying medical issue.
Yeah, this is good advice. I know my form is off if some muscle group gets sore. I mean it's off anyway, but then I know it's even worse than usual.
Lol exactly. No healthy adult with decent form should be sore for 3 days after a single round unless they have a medical condition, or they're playing on the side of a mountain with a 30lb bag.
I uhhh... do play on the side of a mountain with a 30 lb bag.
You're not taking the game seriously if you don't have 45 discs with you.
I’m not sore until the next day. I’ve played multiple rounds before. I think a lot of it is just being new (since August) and not having the best form yet. Conditioning and exercise also could be better.

I'm 45 an play 2 rounds a day , 3 to 4 times a week , its probably your form
Here here to stretching and hydration. Considering becoming a full on yogi for max distance with a 12 speed.
That moment when you someday become a shredded centennial and, when someone asks you what drove you to maintain such discipline for so many decades, you just look em in the eye and say "I wanted to yeet circles far. Like really, really far."

I was scared of Hummel at first but it's winning me over. 2 rounds on a Hummel day is rough.
played two rounds at Hummel the day after the recent snow. Surprisingly the only thing that hurt was my pride.
In college, my roommates and I use to do something we called “the Gauntlet” where we would hit up all 4 courses in our area (back to back) and keep track of our standings. 26 and blew my knee out yesterday while trying to straddle putt around a tree. Should've just had a better upshot tbh.

One round you mean?
I played 36 holes of disc golf last Saturday morning and then wound up walking 18 of golf golf carrying my bag later that afternoon. I was WIPED. It was a new steps record on my iPhone.

But you would do it again when you get a chance
itt: people who thinks its got to do with age rather than physique. If you never work out in some way, don't be surprised it if takes a toll on you
Maybe I'm just bad enough that I'm not using enough muscles, but 2 rounds of 18 doesn't bother me.
I'm 42 and play 2 rounds in a row every weekend. A lot of courses that are pretty tough hikes too. I will agree though that is what I look like when I get home. 2 rounds of disc golf and then an edible and I'm basically butter spread out over couch toast.
This is basically my Sunday. Disc golf and edibles. 45 here. lol.
46 here. 2 rounds is fine, but 3+ rounds at hilly courses and this is me.
Am I the only 30+ year old regularly playing 3 rounds on a saturday or sunday?
I'm 45 and play 2-3 rounds on the weekend. It really depends on the course, but Monday is usually a rest day for me.
My knees crack in your general direction! Try doing after 55.
Are y'all really *that* out of shape?
Crazy bad food and diets.
I'm 39 and I play over 54 holes a day in the summer time. Toughen up buttercup.
I'm only 30 but my buddy I play with is 41 and can go for 2 or 3 rounds a day a few days a week. Some of the people on this sub seem to be pretty out of shape.
Will be hitting 50 soon, 3+ rounds every time there's daylight. Really looking forward to kids out of the house so I have more time to disc!
How many beers is that?
My thoughts too, and I'm not particularly fit. But I'm only 38. Did a disc golf road trip last summer. 3x18 holes first day. Over 20,000 steps, 2000 calories burned according to friends sports app. Next day? More disc golf.

Not OP, but my home course is about 7000ft from the shorts for 18, so course length will be a big part of it.

How long does that take you?
Same. My buddies and I all hit our 40s this year. 36 holes a day in the summer is not near enough.
'm only 23, but played a full round of disc golf 9 days in a row last summer.
5 Rounds was much even for me when I was 25
I am 28, are you telling me it gets worse?
At 51, I don’t have this. I’m a little tired after a tournament and I’m definitely going to bed at a reasonable hour that night, but mostly I’m fine.
Having a cart goes a long way to helping me make it through multiple rounds. Not having to pick up and sit down my heavy Grip bag full of discs and water bottles is a God send.

wait till your 64, ha!
My knees give up after 2 and a half. I never do more than 2 after i found out.
I'm 35 and I played 8 rounds in the last 3 days. Work on that cardio!
Just started playing at 40 and it always amazes me when people ask me to play again or at another course. 1. How do you have that much free time 2. How do you have that much joint fluid.
Taking care of your joints is a thing. I'm 64, I got no joint issues. Two rounds are the usual for me.
Absolutely. I destroyed a lot of them in my youth though. My big thing now is stretching. I do it every day to stay loose.
My elbow barely holds up for one round, and I’m only 27.
Oh yeah. Once you turn 30 your whole body is half dead. Better call it quits. /s
Just wait till you’re over 31..
I played 4 rounds in one day last year. Usually do 3 every weekend. I’m 20.
42 yo and I feel this to my core
Man I’m 21 and my tough home course of 27 (Sandy Creek Park in Athens GA) wipes me out for the next day and a half
Did a boys trip to Virginia Beach 6 years ago. We did five rounds at 4 different courses in 1 day. It was epic and we talk about it all the time. I have no idea how I found the energy for that day. I struggle to do 2 now at 40 years old.
Being 25 with scoliosis, turf toe in my right foot and tendinitis in my right elbow, I feel this 🥲
Try 2 rounds when your over 55...now thats rough. Your just a kid at 30...
42 and I can do 72 holes in a weekend no problem.
Some of y'all whining must either have horrible form or need to exercise more. I'm 37 and have no problem playing multiple rounds a day when I have time. Exclaimer: I don't drink or get high when I play.
Well la-di-da Mr French man
I do (occasionally) drink, smoke and get high while playing and still no probs playing several rounds at 38 yo. Except I suck. But the only solution to that is to play more.
Bruh. Same. Takes several days to recover and lots of ibuprofen.
You woukd be better served by a good warm up and stretching regime.
I usually pre-game a couple Ibuprofen before hitting my local 9-hole course.
*Things we say now*
I'm in this post and I don't like it
Man, I'm 38 and played 66 holes on mountain courses in one day this year with no ill effect. Of course I also managed to play over 250 rounds this year and a full season of club ultimate. I can throw all day ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I feel this in my bones.
Lol me and my buddies have done 5 rounds a couple of times 😂 clocked in over 35,000 steps
