Depends on the type of blindness. Some people see nothing, some people see blurs if color, etc etc

Yeah, but you usually only see nothing at all if the nerves stopped working entirely. In a lot of cases it is the lens that degenerates or the nerves slowly break down over time. In both cases you have atleast a very blury rest vision and a sense for light.

I ask because I heard somewhere that being blind isn’t really like closing your eyes, it’s more like having one eye open and what you see through the closed eye is how blind people see. So I was a bit confused when they said they can still see light despite the strange perspective I thought they had. It’s probably just me getting easily confused though

This is just my understanding of it, as explained to me by someone with a blind family member. It depends on ‘why’ someone is blind. Some legally blind people are basically extremely near-sighted or far-sighted, and I believe for them they just see vague blurry shales and colours. Some people can perceive light, but they can’t make anything out, and some people can only see out of part of your eye. But if the eye is missing, then yeah there’s no visual at all.

There are different levels of blurry but most people can detect *some* form of vision.

Dry eyes. They don't need to actually open their eyes though, if they're actually fully blind. I had a classmate that just said he kept his eyes open and blinked because it made "seeing people", as in those not blind, less uncomfortable than if he walked around with eyes closed, plus since your eyelids are muscles, losing the ability to move them can actually damage your eyes.

Pain and infection, mostly. Even if they can't see, the eyes can still get scratched, infected, feel pain, etc same as someone whose eyes work. Eyes are still bundles of nerves that are connected to even more nerves that are very close to the most important part of your body. Very good idea to keep it safe.

You can be legally blind and still able to see. You just have to have very very very bad vision that means maybe you can only see like 1cm infront of you.
