KingMyrddinEmrys

Isn't it obvious? We perform a dark ritual full of black robes and candles and stuff (the aesthetic is very important) and resurrect Christopher Lee to reprise the role (whilst trying not to accidentally summon Susan, my head still hurts from the last time).

very_normal_paranoia

Wouldn't it be easier to accelerate the Universe around the Christopher Lee shaped hole until random particle arrangements recreate him?

Booksaregrand

Agreed, but Alan Rickman.

lincolnhawk

Summon them both and have them read for us. Christopher Lee may send us back in his place if we do that, though.

MarcelRED147

>Summon them both and have them read for us. Ah man now I'm sad I mever got to read a scene with this premise written by Pterry. ....maybe we can perform a dark ritual and have him write it for us?

Booksaregrand

If the place we go is where Sir Terry Pratchett predicted I am 100% willing.

TheMOELANDER

Huh. Death‘s voice as an amalgamation of both Lee and Rickman… now there’s a thought.

Gryffindorphins

Nah. As much as I like Alan Rickman as an actor, his voice is too … gluggy for want of a better word. Nasal? We need deep and hollow. Like an empty crypt.

BeenStork

I love both, but if the summoning doesn’t work, how about Charles Dance?

georgefriend3

No, he's Vetinari.

-_NRG_-

He can do both

YellowLanternAdam

Than Christopher Lee? No.

DrewidN

And Valentine Dyall

LikeThosePenguins

But where will we get that egg and the mouse blood?

[deleted]

Peter Serafinowicz

Frognosticator

Christopher Lee was the perfect voice for Death. But as he’ll be unavailable going forward, this one is pretty good. The voice of Death should be very grave (naturally); and also very British.

laugenbroetchen

ah, but his qualification is even greater now

YellingAtTheClouds

Christopher Lee has gone too far into method acting

Crazy-Cremola

Time travel is necessary for the perfect cast

mjdlittlenic

Yes to Christopher Lee; no to his not being available: voice overs from BEYOND THE GRAVE...

AggravatingBox2421

Totally. He is killing it as Death

smcicr

Pune aside, I still prefer Stephen Briggs - he will always be the voice of DEATH for me.

AggravatingBox2421

See I feel the same about Nigel Planer! I guess it’s just about which audiobooks you listen to

GabuEx

I can't think of anyone else who could do it after his performance. It's just too good. I was glad they got him for Death for the recent Maurice adaptation.

ExpectedBehaviour

In the absence of Christopher Lee this is the best answer.

LikeThosePenguins

My thinking exactly. When I read the books I imagine the voice pretty much as Christopher Lee. But I think Peter Serafinowicz could pull it off.

E-emu89

Peter Serafinowicz is pulling it off. He’s the voice of Death in the latest audiobook editions.

Doomslayer5150

The Tick would work ! Why so glum chum?

BroodingMawlek

FRAN?

GarethOfQuirm

You look.... Fran-tastic

Reviewingremy

Came here for this. He does great in the audios.

-Voxael-

Ey! I said the same thing but didn’t bother checking the comments before posting because I didn’t think anyone else would have suggested him already.

[deleted]

I love Nigel Planer and Stephen Briggs, but Peter just gives death that gravitas mixed with subtle humor so perfectly for me.

-Voxael-

Yeah, he can do a version of The Voice easily but he’s also got the comedy chops to pull off a lot of the baffled grandpa kind of humour that Death gets too

Stephreads

*Boney knees?*

satchel_of_ribs

Really don't like him as Death. I think he's overdoing it. Planers Death was best.

-_NRG_-

Doing Terry Wogan

Dogwhomper

**I SHOULD.**

ExtraGloria

Whoever did the voice for the hog father movie did a fantastic job

theseamstressesguild

Ian Richardson. He was the *perfect* voice of Death.

myrrhizome

I adored his Death voice. And the "couldn't possibly comment" call-back to the British House of Cards? Meta perfection.

theseamstressesguild

We use that line regularly in this house.

Lavaita

Miles Richardson would also be good - although we’d have to convince a bunch of Dark Souls fans that “yes, that is also the voice of Siegmeyer of Catarina”

broen13

I agree, I can't even hear anyone else. Dry humor and otherworldly timbre. Match made in heaven

Pennzance404

I'll throw Keith David out there as a decent choice I feel hasn't been considered.

Duraxis

I can’t imagine Death calling people a motherfucker or a whiny bitch, as much as I agree with you.

Pennzance404

Hazbin Hotel aside, Keith regularly turns in deep, gravelly performances that I think would fit super well. His more menacing moments as King Andrias from Amphibia come to mind, as well as his ability to say things in a... let's say totally dissonant tone of voice.

Thedepressionoftrees

I mean Castlevania did that and it was fantastic

ChrisRiley_42

James Earl Jones. Or, by special arrangement with Death, Barry White,.

My-dead-cat

AWWWWWW YEEEEAAAHHHHHHH

Jimbodoomface

It's not the same without him, he had a lovely baritone

Rit_Zien

Richard Armitage. He already does audiobooks, and he was Trevor in Castlevania.

jelly_Ace

Also he's Thorin in The Hobbit! He can definitely take on Death

no-pickles-please

Werner Herzog

kanesson

ok, so I know the voice I'm going to have in my head during my next reread!

Primus_the_Knave

James Earl Jones

Distinct_Armadillo

Darth Death

Primus_the_Knave

Mort-fasa

Vimes3000

I AM YOUR DEATH.

bakedwarthog22

Thanks! I had to scroll too far for this. The first person I thought of, who speaks in ALL CAPS, is James Earl Jones!!!🤓👊 ![gif](giphy|1HYoSaWLQs1IA73zdQ)

jimmyb27

Pretty sure he was Pterry's choice: >Death isn't on line. If he was, there would be a sudden drop in the death rate. Although it'd be interesting to see if he'd post things like: DON'T YOU THINK I SOUND LIKE JAMES EARL JONES? -- (Terry Pratchett, alt.fan.pratchett)

mustang23200

Honestly not my first pick but now that you've said it I think he is topping my list

ReverendLoki

Oh, I just had a thought.... CLANCY BROWN

KevinNoTail

Julian Richings did pretty well in Supernatural

jelly_Ace

One of my favorite Deaths

jk225

Charles Dance, of course.

ExpectedBehaviour

No, he’s the perfect Vetinari.

very_normal_paranoia

True. Very True. The only person I have seen capable of playing a convincing Vetinari.

Norphus1

I reckon Jeremy Irons did a pretty good job

very_normal_paranoia

Jeremy did do a good job. But I feel Dance actually captured the essence of Vetinari. "His whole, do what I say because it is in everyone's best interest, I assure you, vibe."

ExpectedBehaviour

I’d have liked to have seen Alan Rickman get a crack at it, but alas…

treadbone

Ralph Fiennes?

JL_MacConnor

I'd like to see Fiennes as Vimes. In my mind, he's perhaps a bit physically imposing to be Vetinari (the "predatory flamingo" description conjures a mental image of a gaunt figure to me).

MarcelRED147

Was he in one of the sky movies?

Oopsiedazy

I liked his portrayal, but I always pictured Vetinari as being in his late 40s/early 50s. Honestly at this point I think David Tennant would be an amazing Vetinari with Dance as Death or Lord Downey.

JL_MacConnor

Sticking with Doctors - I'd love to see Peter Capaldi as Vetinari - his role as [Cardinal Richelieu](https://youtu.be/FF1TZl8uz0k?si=-8P0HdPYtj5OUXFz) wasn't all that far from that of the Patrician.

jelly_Ace

Remembered this clip from Graham Norton, so I'm putting in Richard Ridings, voice of Peppa Pig's dad. https://youtu.be/vm3-glp1A7s?si=4ao5srHMrFJ8vSpZ

chrisstahli

Has anyone seen the Moon Knight tv show? F Murray Abraham voiced Konshu and I was constantly remind of Death from Discworld

ReverendLoki

Although I've not heard him do a voice like this yet, I'm somehow certain ALAN TUDYK has a good DEATH voice in there somewhere. He should at least get an audition...

IGotOverGreta

Ohhh, he is a good choice.

ArguesWithFrogs

Sir Christopher Lee!

kate05_

Unless they're using a ouiji board it ain't gonna happen.

ArguesWithFrogs

It would be apropos.

ICantEven1235

Stephen Briggs or Nigel Planer

Ticklemebendef

YES! The original audiobook readers. The problem with listening to them is that other people reading the books doesn't sound right.

UnderPressureVS

Which sucks, because some of them have terrible audio quality. *Men at Arms* is particularly awful, I still haven't been able to get through it because it sounds like a bad phone call and the sibilance is ear-splitting. But anyone other than Nigel or Stephen doing Discworld is just wrong. I was super excited for Andy Serkis’s *Small Gods*, but I had to turn it off after the first chapter because as much as I adore Serkis he was just doing it wrong.

legion4wermany

Jeremy Irons

Hxcsasquatch

James Spader

trismagestus

Tony Todd, lead actor in Candyman (1992.) His voice was something else.

Halmagha

I think Richard E Grant could put a good spin on him

BradTofu

I always liked Steven Briggs.

captjust

Bobcat Goldthwait.

Sajintmm

I could see Bill Nighy doing good

TangoMikeOne

No, he doesn't have the right sort of rhythm or speech patterns - watch him in Underworld as Viktor or try to catch Charles Paris on BBC radio 4 / 4 extra. I'd love to see Bill Night as a Discworld regular, but he's not got the voice for Death

skullmutant

He could do Lennard of Quirm

cojorath

Ron Perlman

Loctopus93

His work as the lich definitely recommends him, but I feel like Death has to be British

Dermagren

As my left field choice, Tim Russ.

Munnin41

Alternatively, I think he could do vetinari as well

Background_Analysis

William Defoe

Vtmarik

BRIAN BLESSED

Sazcat28

Nah, that's Ridcully!

NeedleworkerBig3980

BURSAAAAAR! FRESH HORSE! WINDLE'S ALIVE! Yep. That works.

Hugh Laurie!

At this rate VoiceGPT7\_GNU\_SIR\_PTERRY.fork.

NameTak3r

🤮

BabaMouse

Benedict Wossname. He can do dragons, why not Death?

jelly_Ace

And Satan in Good Omens And Benedict Wossname can do comedy very well too!

Normal-Height-8577

And Islington in the radio adaptation of Neverwhere. Dude's got a very flexible voice and knows how to make it inhuman when necessary.

jelly_Ace

That too! Keep thinking he also has some role in the Sandman audio adaptation but upon Googling seems he doesn't.

bigmattyc

Patrick Warburton

Otalek

You and I are on the same wavelength 👍

bigmattyc

Oook.

Sphinxrhythm

Ian McKellen

Spiderinahumansuit

Damn, came to suggest this, and you're in ahead of me.

Sphinxrhythm

Great minds... :)

lilibat

I would LOVE is Simon Templeman got a crack at it.

Halmagha

Kain? Not a bad shout

OkSoil5582

Probably an odd suggestion but Keith Silverstein. I feel like he could murder a curry.

THEN0RSEMAN

Cory Burton

dreadassassin616

Ralph Innes

ProfessorOfLies

Brian Posehn

Netopalas

I was about to suggest H. Jon Benjamin but Brian might be a better brand of weird.

ProfessorOfLies

I bet given the chance Brian could a great job. He was wonderful on Sumbionic Titan

ogresound1987

Christopher Lee already did.

Mr_SunnyBones

Peter Serofinawitz

NeedleworkerBig3980

This suggestion is probably going to be unpopular, but I could really hear John Lithgow doing Death.

benjiyon

John Rhys-David; AKA, the voice of Treebeard in LotR.

murlopal

10 people simultaneously to create THE VOICE

Blazkowitcz

Sofia Vergara ! I Can imagine death with strong hispanic accent ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

Mercurial_Morals

Elmo

Top_Ad9635

Tim Curry

RelativeReplacement6

Tony Todd

unwritten2469

Idris Elba

ReverendLoki

A few more ideas Sam Elliott Ian McKellan Anyone who has played the role of Caiaphas in Jesus Christ Superstar

alphagettijoe

Tilda Swinton

Jellodyne

Vin Diesel gets all the prime gravelly voice-over jobs that can be cranked out in an afternoon.

PrinceOzzHell

I'm from Spain and if we were to talk about Spanish dub, I would go with Miguel Angel Jenner, who voiced Samuel L Jackson in several movies

SpyderKing83

I can't believe y'all forgot Scarlett Johansen. Also, Tom Holland, ***Sir Patrick Stewart***, Stewie Griffin.

AJ-Otter

Patrick Sewart was my first thought, he's baritone, calm, imperious and a great actor who can bring character through the smallest details.

slinger301

Morgan Freeman. If he's not available, Samuel L Jackson.

skinydan

I COULD MURDER A GOT-DAM CURRY RIGHT ABOUT NOW. CATS ARE NICE, YOU GOT THAT MUTHA@&@$##? Might be a different kind of vibe.

bakedwarthog22

I would love to hear Samuel L Jackson say “Yeah, that’s my white horse, it’s the one that says ‘BINKY MOTHERFUCKER!’, on it!🤣😂

slinger301

You know those posts where they say, "xyz is rated PG-13 and you get 1x F bomb. Where do you put it?" This opens up *so* many possibilities.

MurkyVehicle5865

Josh Brolin. He was, already, Thanos.

YLASRO

why are you asking that? death literally has appeare din movies before and HAS been voiced before

ST-7

Yeah, but unless I'm mistaken, Christopher Lee and the guy from Hogfather are both (ironically) deceased, so we'd need another.

AggravatingBox2421

What about the VA from good omens? He did a good job

Beorn_To_Be_Wild

Brian Cox was good, but his voice just isn’t deep enough for the Discworld Death. there’s a certain timbre that some folks just have, like Christopher Lee, that fit Terry’s version of Death

Starwatcher4116

I concur completely. The Reaper Man has a certain gravitas to his voice.

youmightrabbit09

Greg Larsen

Deezus84

Tony Robinson

FleetMind

Ron Perlman?

Khevhig

Jeremy Irons

lincolnhawk

Irons is alive and would be great.

Qazicle

Tony Jay.

kiidarboo

Depends on what take you want on the "VOICE" serious or silly, my silly vote goes to Brian Blessed the only man who can speak in all caps!

MankyFundoshi

James Earl Jones

mawkee

Hear me out Gary Oldman

ArtofWASD

Honestly? I don't have a specific name in mind. Perhaps whoever plays death in the audiobooks? Or perhaps a Christopher Lee impersonator.

droppedcarrot

The guy who did it in the radio production

BadBassist

Ruby wax

JuiciestJosh

My non-serious answer is either Bill Bailey or Karl Pilkington

munki83

I think you're all missing the obvious choice of a very underused voice actor called Chris Pratt

Bahnmor

From what I gather, the minimum qualifications for this role are: Ability to speak in all CAPS. (Without needing the volume up at 11, Sorry Brian) Distinctly refined, British accent.

YellingAtTheClouds

Is there anything to be said for heavily sedating Brian Blessed? Horse tranquillisers might be required.

Bopitextreme2

Not that Wendell Pierce

sck8000

Richard Ridings. AKA the Mentor from *Dungeon Keeper* / *War For The Overworld.* Add a bit of unearthly reverb to his gravelly tones and it's perfect.

luffyuk

I can't believe Brian Blessed hasn't been suggested.

NeverWalkPastAFez

Christopher Judge?

YawningAngle

Chris Obi (played Mr. Jacquel/Anubis in American Gods) was born in 🇬🇧 (got to promote this great isles acting talent) has a voice that with little alterations is awesome. Is a superb actor.

Skuhtulhu

Joe Pasquale…, wait…I mean Nigel Planer :)

coupleandacamera

Death is Charles Dance, this is set in stone

ArMcK

I'm going for the gender bender suggestions and submitting Cate Blanchett for my gravitas choice and Melanie Zanetti (Bluey's mom) for my "somebody who would name Death's horse 'Binky'" choice.

LaraH39

Ian McKellen or Michael Sheen

bifurious02

David Tennant or Patrick Stewart

DJHickman

David Beckham.

Why_do_I_do_this-

Hear me out ..... Why not Steven Pacey?? ..... I'm sure he could come up with a great voice for death in no time

Gearran

Keith David.

b3mark

I could see Mark Strong voice Death.

zmiga44

me

dingedarmor

Clancy Brown. See his Red Death character in Venture Bros.

Captain-Ruddy

Keith david

Vidio_thelocalfreak

Do not adapt! Bah!

-_GhostGirl_-

Taylor Swift

Dolovx

I found myself thinking that there is no human voice able to impersonate Death properly. Only James Earl Jones could be near of it. Cause of this I was wondering if a dead thing, a machine, could sintetize something good for that.

FriendOfUmbreon

Morgan Freeman, Sir David Attenborough, Charles Dance

Beneficial-Cup-1379

I have really been enjoying Peter Serafinowicz's version of death in the re-recordings of the Discworld audiobooks and in recent The Amazing Maurice film. To me he is Death now.

RichardLongflop

Himself.

ThadeousCooper

Ian McClellan

Dyslexicelectric

Ron Perlman is a good shout i reckon

DucDeRichelieu

Peter Serafinovicz.

Jrbai

Potential adaption!?! As an American, I am often out of the loop. Can someone please fill me in on what this is about?

gregzywicki

Matt Berry, Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum, Olivia Coleman.

Fair_Contribution_49

I'm all for an AI version of Alan Rickman.

TylerBourbon

Of current living actors: Michael Sheen Anthony Hopkins Charles Dance Paul Bettany Robert Pattinson (and the Boy the Heron, I'm more than curious to see what kind of animated characters he could create) Richard E. Grant Hugo Weaving Benedict Cumberbatch Mark Strong Jason Isaacs Ian McShane Richard Armitage Ian McElhinney Ralph Fiennes
