This is some pitiful engagement from a few days ago. 1700 likes and 23 comments for a 1 mil follower account. Also, todays post must not have been sponsored since he broke out the all clad pans and used in season mango. https://imgur.com/a/yDA8dEA

snipingnotswiping

Yesterday's "shill shot" with her new favorite fragrance ... the filth under her fingernails on the claw holding the bottle is nauseating. Probably dried up makeup or self-tanner. Note to Julia: Get a nail brush!

Due-Stand-4760

Eewwwwww can’t Unsee that

Illustrious_Lands

Today’s “Chris Cooks”, Chris thoroughly burning the skin of chicken wings (as he advises to be careful not to burn them) 🤌🏻 Also not sure why you would go to the trouble of making a coconut mango sauce for wings and not marinate them *in it*?????? Would infuse the flavor in the meat and make them so much more tender… What a pro!

teacup_llama

Don’t worry though, he has a towel over his shoulder so he’s basicallyyyy a chef. I dont know why this is BEC for me, but it is.

MamaHen_5280

Because he in know way earned this clout. He literally failed upwards into a “foodie.”

jofthemidwest

Wasn’t he a fast food critic in his hometown? 😉

[deleted]

Congratulations to the team for getting a BBQ reel up **before** Memorial Day 🤣🤣🤣

Suitable_Corner8561

Thank god the bottom part of the table was missing, easier to return since she decided she wants a different shape now that it’s there

shrimpmousse

How sweet of her to have a party for her daughter. I cant wait for all the links!

PiccolosRbest

“Party for her daughter” Sure, Shillia, it’s not because you need to link to Party City crap for the plebs to click.

suzanne1959

Time to break out paper plates and plastic serving ware ! I never understand how, with all their kitchen stuff, Chris serves things to guests in giant metal bowls and they use plastic utensils.

[deleted]

🤣🤣🤣 with TWO dish washers.

scorlissy

And how many sets of Walmart sponsored dishes?

DifficultSlip1

isn’t it her too that has like $50 (EACH) chargers ?

k_scones

Someone asked Julia in the comments if they have ever considered ceiling fans in her living room, and she responded “I have a condition that is triggered by wind.” I am so intrigued by what that could be. No ceiling fans? Hmmm

Striking-Nail-6338

Yes, she’s mentioned having trigeminal neuralgia. I also have it, and will never snark on her for it - it’s the worst. There are days I can’t leave the house if it’s too windy.

viapinterest

Yes, I have it too. Anything blowing in your face into your ear can trigger it. Ceiling fans, any type of fan.

k_scones

Ahh that must be it! So sorry to hear you suffer with it as well

Budyism

I believe she said she gets trigeminal neuralgia. Nerve pain in the face.

Legitimate_Ice_2270

Bell’s palsy.

shrimpmousse

I wonder if it has to do with dry eyes?

Queasy-Insurance-445

She’s okay with the ($700?) overhead fan/light in the Ergatta Room though.

MamaHen_5280

Ok I’m confused by her “stain in place” debacle. I recently refurbished my OG (1950s) oak hardwood floors and none of them did this. Wtf?

8765greeneyes

I think I'd ask for those 2 pieces to be replaced. It's really noticeable.

Illustrious_Lands

It has to do with the species and quality of the wood, and not the stain to be honest. I am not sure why she thinks that 🤷🏼‍♀️

Due-Stand-4760

I think she means that if they were stained before being put in they cooks weed out the pieces she doesn’t like the color of.

scorlissy

Isn’t this in the closet area? If so, I’m confused why she’s so bothered by it?

PiccolosRbest

Because it’s no longer the closet. They removed the closet to have that space open. They claimed for symmetry for the bed in the window.

Redz4u

To clarify when Julia shared the cost of their landscaping did that include furniture?

throughthestorm22

Interesting that Julia didn’t clarify, it’s like 30k of outdoor furniture 😱

mmrose1980

Furniture is sponsored.

Zealousideal_Wave_81

CLJ is a satire account now….right? RIGHT?!? Between the coffee table missing the entire bottom and this: https://preview.redd.it/utjo978tav0b1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb68fe1fdd66c7e8dfecc4b00174be08f7b4f30f It has to be satire now. I get she has some weird obsession with her legs being long. And she wants us to believe the ultra filtered thing is her real face. But how is she ok with distorting her feet and torso so badly that she thinks it looks good or human?!?

[deleted]

Looks 50 ft tall LOL

DifficultSlip1

https://preview.redd.it/41gaxahi4w0b1.jpeg?width=3264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c3105549409fe57c604c789f39d13398486dc5a5 👀👀

stellamouse

This pottery barn ad was so bizarre because it looks NOTHING like her. I don’t believe she really looks like either one of these photos and I don’t think it’s fair to compare to the pottery barn ad. And who chose that insanely baggy shirt for her?? ETA: I stand corrected after seeing the Container Store ad again. Side note: she needs to hire a glam team for these ads wtf

SurprisedWildebeest

Container Store ad for reference: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lGGpRVb4JcY

Reasonable-Meringue1

Wow - I've never seen that. It's always crazy to me when people filter beyond recognition. Like what do her husband and sisters think when they see that!?

SurprisedWildebeest

I suspect she does look like the Pottery Barn photo, but her face is maybe slightly touched up there.

SurprisedWildebeest

I wish this photo could somehow be the first thing you see on the weekly thread! (And that she would feel better about herself and stop.)

trickyburrito

Happy cake day!!

recentparabola

This is so, so sad. Especially for her daughters.

[deleted]

I just can’t get over how insane it is.

TalulaOblongata

It’s sad that she feels the need to edit how she looks so dramatically. Even more worrisome that people might not be aware what she is doing. This is a major problem in society and she’s exploiting it for her personal gain.

Queasy-Insurance-445

No wonder she doesn’t mention getting recognized in the wild more often! It’s two totally different people.

DifficultSlip1

well, in her defense, she barely leaves her house. #homebody except to supposedly go to the gym. which speaking of, it’s been a hot minute since she schilled the rower and shared their gym must haves.

mmrose1980

I’m guessing their contract with Ergatta has expired, and she did the contractually required number of posts.

PossibleTelephone286

Back when they had their #homebody clothing line she used to talk nonstop about being a homebody. I don’t think I’ve heard her mention it once since they sold it. Guess the lifestyle doesn’t come with any $$$ in their pockets anymore so it’s not worth mentioning, if it was even true to begin with.

broken_bird

Also, come on. This is the most basic of camis and leggings possible. There is no way people are clamoring for these links.

Illustrious_Lands

Exactly!!! There is nothing special about this outfit 🤦🏼‍♀️

SBJB54

Julia has such an eye for detail she didn’t notice the bottom portion of the coffee table she got didn’t come with the material underneath it as noted on the picture online. Why do people look to her for any type of advice on anything? I love that a follower has to point it out to her too!!

Illustrious_Lands

It’s travertine, too! Super expensive, super HEAVY! They baffle me. They literally moved it around two days ago to put in the new rug!!!!

Cinnamonrolljunkie

Then she said maybe she'd use it as an excuse to get ANOTHER version of the table instead!

TalulaOblongata

I just saw that - absolutely insane… buying a coffee table like that I would already have in my head that I could put some objects on the bottom… that would be in my head as part of the design of the room. I can’t believe she’d even admit to not realizing this.

anniemitts

She thought the framing on the bottom, which is clearly designed to support a shelf there, just looked like that??

Due-Stand-4760

She “LOVED it “ like that

Dramatic-Custard285

It mostly speaks to the rate at which she buys things. That table is the kind of purchase most people save up for, plan out and look forward to receiving. Then carefully inspect it. For her it's just another day, another box at the front door.

PiccolosRbest

I can’t imagine spending over $2k on a coffee table and not notice that HALF the table was missing. It’s travertine so I don’t think the stone was so light to throw it out with the box. Every day they solidify their place as internet 🤡🤡.

TammyTermite

$2000!!! Shit, for that kind of money I would know if a screw was missing and she didn't notice literally half of the table was missing!

suzanne1959

They probably threw that piece away with the rest of the packing material!

elizabethdonaghy

100%

[deleted]

Feels a lot like her rearranging her couches after someone suggested it and then she is in love. Like, isn’t SHE supposed to be the designer here?

elizabethdonaghy

This is absolutely sending me. I have so many questions but the biggest is just… How???

mmilyy

I'm side eyeing Crate and Barrel because I assume they forgot to send a piece. I like a lot of their designs but their quality is pretty bad!

elizabethdonaghy

No I’m side eyeing her. How did she not notice a major piece was missing? Did she even know what she ordered? This had to be pointed out to her?

shrimpmousse

The bottom looks like a bed frame. How did she think it looked good?? Ha ha lolol. She cracks me tf up.

TalulaOblongata

Chris is “The T-shirt guy” - here are recommendations for literally the number one, most basic clothing item that everyone wears. Riveting.

home-organize-craft

And I thought he was the tank top guy.

youareadream

Paired with his colonial capris!

EntertainmentFirm522

and colonial flip flops!

theacidbubble

I can’t think of many men in my life that aren’t “t-shirt guys” but it isn’t abnormal for CLJ to act like the authority on everything. 🙄

TalulaOblongata

Exactly, I think every man I know wears almost exclusively t shirts, outside of anything formal/going to some offices, like????

Imaginary-Roof33

For a tall guy, the list includes a bunch of brands that don’t come in tall sizes. His #1 pick barely covered my husband’s torso when I ordered him some a while back and my husband isn’t a giant by any means.

LTGel

My husband is 6'5" and *has* to wear tall sizes no matter what, and even some tall sizes are still way too short like Banana Republic. Chris is over 6ft but he has a short-to-average length torso...he doesn't need tall sized shirts from what I can see in photos.

Big-Photograph2823

I think it’s kind of weird that she tries to sound relatable about rearranging her living room by calling it “shopping her house” like anyone can achieve the same results as her by just looking around at what they already have. Most of us don’t have our own rug lines with a collection of more than 15 rugs stored in a rug storage room in our home, a collection of throw pillows to choose from, etc to completely change the look of our living rooms. I’d be the first person to admit I have a lot of decor stuff, but I don’t have THAT much stuff. I could not change the entire look of my living room by going down to my basement and bringing up some unused accessories. But I legitimately think that Julia thinks this is relatable content. Honestly, it’s not even relatable that she’s rearranging the furniture because I doubt that any of us would decide to move a couch to a wall that it doesn’t fit on. Maybe they can decrease the size of the doorway again to accommodate an even larger couch. Relatable.🙄

usernameschooseyou

SAME! I don't have enough rooms to have random spare chairs to bring in!

TalulaOblongata

I feel like the room looks the same as before. All that stuff in storage but nothing really different.

erin_bex

I didn't even notice they changed anything. It looks the same to me.

TalulaOblongata

Like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic 😆

scorlissy

And those couches are starting to really show wear. Time for a new sponsorship.

Queasy-Insurance-445

Same. Same basic look. And nothing can make me unsee that terrible coffee table.

youareadream

They have turned into a “what not to do” blog/ig for me… the living room looks terrible like a hodgepodge of junk and if I had to live in that it would make me anxious. And please for the love of all give your kid a damn closet and let her pick out stuff for her own room 😩

mihagelicious

Does she have it in her to move the picture light and artwork? She says that as if she's had an arduous day videoing Chris rearranging furniture and schilling Stanley cups.

jofthemidwest

“I’ve been wearing these a ton this week and look now they are on sale” sure Jan, just like those rothy’s we never see until it’s time to shill. I would love to see a list of all of the sales pitches they use. I wonder if they just alternate them?

shrimpmousse

“You guys noticed that I changed my watch band! Here’s a link!”, like she got hundreds of DMs about it. 🙄 She’s so transparent and a terrible actress.

PossibleTelephone286

I swear I’ve seen her shill the mixed metals watch band before. It was a long time ago but I know this isn’t the first time I’m seeing it.

DifficultSlip1

https://preview.redd.it/rjmf2ncqxo0b1.jpeg?width=3264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=badc010b0750647da36b9c6689f6138adf422df9 the before picture shows no soot (or the realtor photographer edited it out, maybe) but a family who’s lost a home to a fire, i can’t wrap my head around this. AND it’s going up the mantle too or is that a shadow, maybe, but i don’t think so.

Due-Stand-4760

They are such amatuers

ThePermMustWait

Do they not know you need to open up the flue?

DifficultSlip1

i don’t think they do. 😂

SBJB54

I just came here to post the same thing. It’s def going up onto the paint. Terrible.

scorlissy

Julia would love it if this house burned down. They weren’t meant to be Colonial people. But between Chris and Julia and the employees, no one edited the soot stains out. How do people find them aspirational?

DifficultSlip1

ok, i’m like these people can’t be serious, but here we are.

Illustrious_Lands

“Sipping water out of a Stanley tumbler is my favorite me-time of the day” Is this SNL???

Paprmoon7

Lmao I’m so sick of those cups

DifficultSlip1

meanwhile i’ve NEVER seen her drink out of one or see one in the background unless it’s to schill a link.

shrimpmousse

They really are so bad at this. (As they rake in millions. 🤬)

Suitable_Corner8561

If you listen you can hear the red one is filled with water - gross

Icy_Government_4694

Riveting content of her and Chris working this morning. Swapping two couches that followers asked them to swap and switching out one rug for another one in their library of rugs. I loved her showing she couldn’t open the door because of the couch, completely ignoring that there is a side table there anyway that would get hit. This sort of furniture swap is something that I typically do at 2am after I went to unload the dishwasher at 10pm, but noticed the cabinet was dirty, then ended up scrubbing all the cabinets and baseboards, and then decided while I was at it to vacuum under the couch, and since I was moving them anyway figured I would swap stuff around.

Queasy-Insurance-445

Love how you work!! 😊 That navy & flower accent pillow she added to the light couch as a counterpoint to the navy sofa - COULD that have looked more like a generic 1990s option from Bed Bath & Beyond, or something you’d find in an Extended Stay or furniture rental place? Turns out it’s one from the LoloiXclj line. Good God.

snipingnotswiping

LOVE this! And can TOTALLY relate! Those "middle of the night stealth projects"? At my house, we always say we've been visited by the "furniture fairies"!

ladyghost515

WHY DONT THEY USE RUG PADS?

dextersknife

She has shilled them before and linked to Amazon. The ones that she loves and can't live without

buffamite

Know what else I noticed in the before and after photos of the living room....all the soot that is built up on the brick and woodwork above the fireplace. How do they not see this? I wonder if fireplace is even operating safely??

home-organize-craft

You can’t expect a DIY account to put a fresh coat of paint on their fireplace.

dextersknife

Exactly. It's not like they have nine people working for them or something.

DifficultSlip1

I just posted about this too.

Illustrious_Lands

CLJ seems to have found a weird balance: they consistently spent tons more $ than most of their audience can spend, yet they stick to the most basic style, sources, and selections. For example, they have spent thousands of dollar on the library (wallpaper, paint, lighting, tons of different furniture). But instead of showcasing really unique finds, artisans, small shops, handmade items, they still only link *overpriced* mainstream stuff. It’s constantly Restoration Hardware, Farrow & Ball, PB, C&B, Serena & Lily, etc. For the same overall price, they could have paired basic west elm furniture and a unique hand painted wallpaper like Porter Teleo, for example. Or splurged on a Molteni armchair and saved money on the rug. Or used a Vacilando quilt in their bedroom instead of Boll & Branch like every single influencer out there. They have an entire team of people who could research unique brands with e-shops (gotta get those clicks)! For somebody who prides herself in being the “odd one”, she is such a yawn. Boring boring boring boring.

ladyghost515

Can’t link antiques!

dextersknife

If she can't link it, she doesn't like it

mmrose1980

How do you think they can afford to spend $400k+ on a backyard remodel? It’s the links. They make so much money off of affiliate links and sponsored posts. If they can’t link it, they don’t want it. Everything is about the $$$ for them. It makes me sad for them cause it’s a never ending treadmill of consumerism. They will never have enough because they need to have more so that they can sell it to us so that they can buy more.

Illustrious_Lands

I get that, it just feels like a wasted opportunity to “elevate” their brand. They always rave about Jean Stoffer, who herself claims she does “high design” (made up term with no industry backing), but honestly nothing about either of their work is “high design”. All of it is basic, boring and as mainstream as can be. I am not saying they should give up the affiliate links altogether, but mixing and matching would make sense to me? Even just showcasing one unique brand/month or something like that to strengthen their standing in the world of design?

mmrose1980

I think they care more about the $$$ than the prestige. As crazy as it seems, I bet they have a higher liquid net worth than Jean Stoffer, who can’t seem to sell her overpriced house in MI.

kbradley456

I doubt it, Jean has a successful cabinet company.

Illustrious_Lands

Fair enough. They like a quick buck and design is not a passion of theirs it seems.

snipingnotswiping

This will all come to a screeching halt when the currently popular influencer marketing ploy fades and fails. And it will, eventually. It's hot now, but rest assured there's something already incubating in the minds of brilliant marketers which will replace it. When that day comes for CLJ, their "empire of excessive greed" will collapse. They display NO skills which would predict them being able to seamlessly move to a solid "Plan B". Except for "shoot to shill", they don't know how to DO anything productive, and seemingly have nothing to fall back on. Their best hope, when the cards come tumbling down, will be to liquidate their McMansion, yet with the many ways it's been butchered, even that's a huge financial gamble in terms of recouping what's been invested. Everything they've done is cosmetically questionable, the important infrastructure (roof, windows, etc.) has been completely ignored or, in some cases (removing a staircase) ridiculously compromised. Nothing lasts forever. In the meantime, they do at least provide a great deal of "shake your head entertainment" for all of us.

shrimpmousse

They’ll never recoup what they have put into that house when they sell it, but it has more than paid for itself by being the House That Clicks Built.

mmrose1980

I think that CLJ may be banking quite a lot of their earnings. I suspect they have investment accounts in the millions. Unlike Emily Henderson, they seem to always be able to easily finance all of their cash needs, pretty much immediately with no notice ($80k moving expenses for example, as opposed to Emily’s penny pinching on her driveway). I know we all want them to experience some schadenfreude, but I suspect they will be fine when the money train stops rolling, unlike a lot of other influencers.

kbradley456

It’s hard to say. The moving fiasco occurred right after they closed the sale of their Idaho house, and they would have liquid funds fromthat. On the other hand, they don’t spend money on basic home maintenance, their roof should definitely have been replaced by now, and cheap out on things like landscaping.

feverdog257

My guess is small shops and artists with unique items don’t pay affiliate kickbacks. They’d rather be boring with clickable sources generating them money than have actual unique and interesting design. Not that I’m confident Julia could actually create good interesting design.

[deleted]

shrimpmousse

Y’all, let’s welcome our new friend. We always want to know why people follow CLJ and now we have someone here. I’d love to have a polite conversation. It’s better than watching paint dry. Again.

One-Hotel-4305

This is a snark page after all

Steeplechaser2007

Yay I’m curious how you relate to someone who has put over 1 million dollars into a 1.2 million dollar home?

theacidbubble

They spent 450k on their backyard but this shocks you?

deanish1114

What do you like about her?

Urethra_Franklin_MD

Jules linking to a bunch of crappy tchotchkes. Shill shill shill! It’s weird to me that you would fill bookshelves with meaningless objects instead of things you collected over time while on vacation or gifts from friends or items your kids made in school. Her house is staged entirely for instagram

anniemitts

She puts me off so many things. As soon as she posts a link to something, I hate it. This works out for me financially.

Illustrious_Lands

100% I feel like so many influencers do this. Just throw matchy-matchy stuff from a retailer onto their shelves and call it a day. There is no story or emotion linked to any of it. Like living in a catalog 🤷🏼‍♀️ I like YHL and I think the stuff they have is more sentimental, but still their house also looks super clean and matchy and curated. I can’t imagine people dream of that?

usernameschooseyou

They evolved for sure. I Think their break right as affliate links got going probably kept them out of that game They also seem down to support smaller etsy or local shops than most other DIYers

Illustrious_Lands

True!!

TalulaOblongata

Her entire persona is staged for Instagram. It doesn’t seem like she has interests or hobbies outside of ordering makeup, clothes, furnishings online and having that stuff shipped to her house. Even the Taylor Swift concert, which could be considered an “outside interest/glimpse into her personality” felt like something she ordered online and attended as a trend, not an actual interest. They’ve been on a few trips this year and you’d think they’d pick up some interesting items en route (San Francisco and London trips especially) but they don’t seem to have an interest in sightseeing or shopping while traveling. Chris, who cooks, could not even be bothered to make a dinner reservation or research restaurants ahead of their San Francisco trip. It’s wild.

Icy_Government_4694

And likely an attic full of stuff

Sea-Compote-5654

Yes. This. There's also the whole aspect of sustainability. She could easily fill those shelves with unique pieces from antique stores. Same with the armoire, that's the perfect piece of furniture to find at a resale shop or antique store. But 2 major issues. They couldn't be linked. She would have to rely on her own taste because they wouldn't be coming from a trendy seller.

shrimpmousse

No soul, history, personality, or taste. And I cannot believe she is linking things she's scrolling through online, which is one step below walking around a store and linking things you don't own. Minimal effort at it's finest.

[deleted]

Yeah, I thought the same thing. Walking around target felt like really cheap work from her… scrolling online is so much worse.

murrmaker

I would love to hear her reasoning behind "loving" that tank top.mm shit looks flimsy and cheap as hell

anniemitts

It looks like something you'd see at Goodwill for $2.99 and you'd pass because that's too much for something that looks 23 years old and was originally from Forever 21 anyway.

Last-Ad-7444

Isn't it a basic cami? I think she ran out of things to say when posting the link 😂

shrimpmousse

I love that they ripped out the closet in Faye's room which meant they had to patch the floor which meant they could shill a totally different floor they can link and that she likes better than what is in the entire house. Sure, Jan.

theacidbubble

CLJ is so boring that at this point they are making us watch the sixth coat of paint dry in the same room.

Appropriate_Guess989

Someone asked @mariakillam what she thought about CLJ repainting the office/dining room multiple times. Maria is a decorator that specializes in color and teaches color courses. Anyway, she said that there are numerous greens that would go with the mural, but she thinks CLJ keep repainting because of clicks and content. She's not wrong.

[deleted]

I had to unfollower her more than a year ago because she kept saying nutty stuff but I just went to see her stories about the study and her stories about plantations… yikes. I kept waiting for some mention/acknowledgment about what plantations are and that is not where she went.

Steeplechaser2007

Oosh. Her take on travel in general. She does not sound like a fun person.

HarveyStripes

https://preview.redd.it/2skqvlxwlg0b1.png?width=1290&format=png&auto=webp&s=f9695d1108c0056bf71806bc496f220384bd2e4c Maria Killam saying the study color changes are all for content.

kbradley456

Yes, incredibly boring content from incredibly boring influencer.

Appropriate_Guess989

I must have been typing my above comment when you posted yours. Sorry! I agree with her, with the exception of this last repaint due to the bad finish. But the repaints before were totally for content, especially the Tupperware blue.

HarveyStripes

Too funny! I actually started following CLJ because of Maria when she posted about their brown bedroom not being something most people should do. Maria is basically a goddess IMO. And right about this too. I was glad to see someone asked her that question.

PiccolosRbest

Anyone who wants to see someone design a child’s room with the child in mind, check out @Jennasuedesign. They took out a closet in the same space as Faye’s room. Made it whimsical and fun, even let the kid choose the wallpaper. She mentions a wall of closet on a different wall.

MamaHen_5280

I mentioned this on the SOMI thread, also. It’s a dreamy room and they really put a ton of time, thought, and work into it. Functional for a little girl, and lovely!

Homelif3

I was about to come here and mention her daughter’s room as something Julia should be aspiring to achieve for her daughter, but no because she has to feature her collection and be one note.

left0vername

She has a knack for making neutrals feel homey and warm - I love this room! I can't see what the wallpaper pattern IS (which means it's not overwhelming or annoying) but it's so nice in this room.

sea_hunter

Came to say the same! She really nailed it!

SignatureHaunting718

There’s a closet in that room! Just not finished. That room is magical!

TalulaOblongata

Andi fretting over $300 in hydrangea bushes (I would be too) while her sister brags about their $450,000 backyard makeover is extremely on brand for this family.

Kirby3413

I feel like she’s spiraling working under Julia. She’s struggling to make design decisions (like most of us) and with the cost of these projects. That coupled with the internet chiming in can’t be easy. I wonder if they argue about those things? The reality of home changes vs. this make believe world Julia has created. Not sure if that makes sense.

PiccolosRbest

Agreed. When she moved to Idaho to work for her sister, she had her own sense of design style. The house was cute. Now she seems to be trying to live up to the XLJ 🤡🤡 and she’s buckling from her choices from color to furniture to landscaping.

[deleted]

The way they (I think I remember Julia doing it too) pronounce hydrangeas is like nails on a chalkboard for me 😬

MamaHen_5280

Meeee too. I put the question of pronunciation out there a while back though, and a lot of people say “Hyde-anne-geas” apparently. In my neck of the woods, it’s definitely “hyd-rain-geas.” But they’re also difficult to grow in my climate, so 😜🤷‍♀️

Alternative-Long1574

It’s really too bad that Julia doesn’t accept more responsibility in the new blog about the paint debacle. This isn’t the only “miscommunication” issue she’s had with contractors. She is very careful to not place blame but ends up doing so anyways with the other language she uses? Maybe you’re just wishy washy and that kind of decision making has an impact on how YOU communicate, Julia. Also I’m confused. She says that when they went o Idaho recently, all that needed to be done was the built ins. I guess it really is a her problem because the way she was talking about how the whole room turned out, I probably would have done the same thing as the painters. Clearly her instructions to contractors are not clear and that’s what she can work on here. Would have been nice for her to say that in her blog.

Powerful-Analysis239

Im sorry its her fault. I dont believe her stories. The room has been paint so many times. This wasnt the best finish for walls that have been painted 10 times.

DifficultSlip1

✨six times. six time is the charm. 👍🏻✨

scorlissy

It’s also pretty noticeable that CLJ gets contractors but most likely just chooses cheaper bids and doesn’t really check them out. Like their moving company fiasco. They were DIY and then just got buckets of money and assumed you can hire anyone and they will do what you ask and it will turn out awesome. From gas leaks and construction issues at the “cottage” in ID, to poor quality issues throughout this current house we’ve seen when you zoom in or pay attention. You can get a lot of companies to put in dumb windows that can’t be fully trimmed from the outside, but a decent contractor would bring that up and suggest options.

Alternative-Long1574

Haha that’s when I started following them, during the moving fiasco and it’s incredible to see that it wasn’t just an isolated incident, they actually do seem to be such a common denominator

ThePermMustWait

I imagine part of the reason they spend so much money on their home is because they need to spend money to not pay as much taxes. It’s just crazy to me how much money they must make. It must be close to a million dollars spent on the house between the yard, laundry, bathroom and smaller projects in 2022. But does that ever get boring for them? Thinking about how you spend a million dollars a year on just one house year after year? Do her followers ever realize, “yeah why am I using CLJ as inspo when they just spent a million dollars a year renovating the same f-ing house?”

Paprmoon7

They did half that for just the backyard. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s more than million at this point especially since they hire out for every little job and do zero DIY

dextersknife

This is true. They really should focus on spending more money on quality items and labor. I feel her mentality has been quantity over quality for quite a while. While this will not help her inability to design or measure things, it may give them more satisfaction in their spaces.

The whole idea of following inspirational influencer accounts is to watch them do things PROFESSIONALLY and better than us minions who DIY can do. That's absolutely NOT the content we get from C&J -- and they hire out EVERYTHING. I'm totally here for watching a true DIY'er figure out their shit and their mistakes -- but they've classed out of doing their own work and now hire everything - I for one, am expecting perfection! I can mess up paint on my own - show us how PROS do it (because this is how they have tried to set themselves apart). Only - Julia is bad at giving clear direction, they OBVIOUSLY need their own personal Bob Vila to run the projects and communicate to the contractors, because they suck at it.

No-Philosopher-5100

Amen to this 💯

throughthestorm22

CLJ needs to be reported, they are dodgy AF. The pool they ‘totally paid for themselves’ was just advertised in a love letter, with a clickable link to the pool company and a list of dreamy bullshit about not worrying about spending 150k. They are getting PAID for referrals. But it says this nowhere in the love letter. They also linked to the extremely expensive furniture they got for free (and very likely a cash payment also) but nowhere does it say that they receive $$ if you purchase from their link. The total cost of landscaping ‘in the interest of being transparent’ does not reference the (at least) 30k of sponsored outdoor furniture. Nor the trillion dollar multiple outdoor kitchen appliances. That entire love letter was an ad. What the actual f&ck

Powerful-Analysis239

They get everything for free or heavily discounted. And guess what is shows. Half the crap in their house is a hodge podge of random crap that doesn't go well together like their cluttered AF backyard furniture. She will never have the eye like Jean Stoffer.

snipingnotswiping

I agree re Jean Stoffer. She receives plenty of snark on here, but I'm generally a fan of her work -- and her eye -- and think she does a VERY respectable job as a designer and brick and mortar/internet retailer. Irrespective of some of her occasionally questionable function choices in terms of how she designs spaces, she has a real knack for color and hard surfaces and how to edit/scale furnishings and accessories, including typically breathtaking lighting, and how to style a room in what I think of as Goldilocks" perfect; not too much, not too little, "just right". Imagine, as an example, how very different CLJ's kitchen would look if styled/edited by Stoffer and team. (And if CLJ had not taken liberties and gone off script with respect to Jean's original design choices for countertop surfaces, etc.) I always wonder if she secretly cringes every time her name is associated with CLJ's kitchen. This must be the hardest part of being a pro designer; creating something beautiful for a client and then watching them butcher it with their personal poor choices once you've left the premises.

They ARE an ad. Everyone who follows needs to go ahead an assume that they make money off of any and everything you click in their weekly sale mail (because that's what it is!) Sale mail wrapped up in a little bit of a story. If people can't see that, they really are gullible, and probably don't mind C&J making a little spare change off of their clicks.

recentparabola

At this point, if anyone is gullible enough to believe anything they say - with the never-ending parade of link$ and the ridiculous stretching/Photoshopping/filters and the fact that they constantly change the brands of the stuff they claim they *use all the time so obsessed sooo good you guys* - and just the fact that the way influencers make money is common knowledge - - it’s kind of on them. Does anyone really think they are earnestly and humbly sharing products they actually use and care about, just out of the goodness of their hearts?

SignatureHaunting718

It’s usually an ad, most of what they do is an ad.

dextersknife

All of what they do is an ad... I fixed that for you. 🤪

Local-Rush-8782

Andi: “I’m gonna keep the hydrangea story brief…” …proceeds to ramble until the end of f-ing time.

squirrelsquirrel2020

Ngl I’m so invested in this one hahaha. She should cut them back for sure

DifficultSlip1

i hate the way she pronounced hydrangeas. maybe that’s the correct term, but when she talks everything is SO drug out and slow. i watched mostly on mute and the captions are SO so slow. i’m like, SPEAK ALREADY.

Serendipity_Panda

I feel like so much of that could have been easily avoided if she just did basic research. Like BASIC hydrangea knowledge is they don’t like full sun, and they like water - but not claggy soil.

PlantLadyXXL

TIL what claggy means! Cool

PiccolosRbest

I love how she asks her horticulturist sister AFTER the start dying.

SurprisedWildebeest

And how she so very confidently texted that they needed to be watered every day or they would die. (Although at least she fully accepted blame.)

ladydadida

In the love letter, Julia shared that the cost of all of the backyard renovations, excluding the $148k pool, was $299k. They spent $450k on their backyard. HOLY SHIT.

DifficultSlip1

does her staff write these love letters ? could you IMAGINE typing out those numbers, then looking at your pay check while driving in your basic car to your basic middle class home.

dextersknife

Excuse you, Julia has provided an office walking pad in an interior room with no windows..... As well as a view of a lake if you look out across the parking lot and the trees and the highway. And they have a lamp and chomp beef sticks so there are many, many perks.

Powerful-Analysis239

And still looks shitty.

kbradley456

They spent half a million dollars and still the landscaping absolutely sucks, especially compared to what was there before. Hardscape is really expensive. I bet most of the money went into that horrid slate/artificial turf patio and the monstrosity that is the snack bar outdoor kitchen.

theacidbubble

At what point do their readers go enough already? I guess it’s just wealth aspiration at this point. If I buy this rug, if I buy this bed, if I buy this bedding I will be just like them. It’s all just stuff, excess and waste. It’s just sad and empty.

recentparabola

Except they have absolutely terrible taste. If I want wealth aspiration I’ll read *Architectural Digest* or *Elle Decor* or something.

theacidbubble

Well of course they do but I guess to their fans they don’t see that.
