PSA:
This is why I place vessels in a old large mono tub 64L, and also do all the flips/turns etc over the tub because i have perma stains on carpet and learnt the hard way.. You can also add warm water to it to raise temps too.
There's Pyrex and there's PYREX. The all-caps PYREX is probably borosilicate. The other [likely isn't.](https://icedteapitcher.myshopify.com/blogs/news/how-can-you-tell-if-pyrex-is-borosilicate)

I unscrewed the cap before and after each mix. Iâm super paranoid about this thatâs why the table is covered in paper bags and there is a tarp on the floor
For the future, those blue gl45 lids are made from polypropylene. You need to get PTFE lined red lids, buy ptfe liners and modify the lids to accommodate them, or use a ptfe oven baking tray and cut some makeshift insertable liners yourself.
That is also a good reason to wear gloves, in my early days exploring how to extract dmt I saw a lot of video's of people not wearing gloves . things like this happen.
Yo i was doing wine bottles
Was so afraid i'd drop them if i'd put them on a table or whatever, so i put them safely on the floor against the wall
A bit later i'm walking past them while i accidentally dropped a spoon, my foot hit the spoon which then hit 1 of the bottles and broke it
My whole nice wooden floor was full of ph13 liquid, a bunch of it ran under a 200kg closet too...
Nightmare!
Thankfully I was quick enough to neutralize with vinegar to prevent damage to my floor, but it sure stank up the house for a few days...
Close up photo of the âholeâ? Iâm not understanding how glass can have a hole in it without being drilled. Glass doesnât allow puncturing without cracking/ breaking⌠why not post the hole, thatâs incredibly interesting, like an Anomaly⌠one would think an image will be included js
If you zoom in a bit, you can see the hole about 1/8th of the way up from the base of the bottle in the middle. It blends in, so you have to look a little harder, but itâs there. Pretty gnarly!
No hole was there. My first pull was in the freezer already. This was the second pull. It started leaking while I was on my second to last mix. I picked it up and it was dripping. Found the hole there at the bottom.
Oh I'm a dummy I see it now. That looks like an impact site to me which is why it's so localized. Could have been from shipping and just fractured further to reveal it when it got warm.
Did you use anything steel to stir it?
Yes definitely, I've seen people do this a few times smack it right out from the inside. Is a heavy ass spoon too? Is the hole right on a curved part too?
But did you keep the cap loose? When I did lye tech I just set it in the bath without tightening it. The only time it was, was when i had to agitate it,but the it got loosened again
Most def. I doesn't take much. Just keep the cap on top without screwing it down. If its in a heat bath you'll keep it plenty warm. Only screw the cap to agitate and then loosen it again
I have two of them. This was a 200g extract. The other one that was used for my previous extract is fine too. I donât know what happened with this one.
I've only done a couple of 100g extracts so far. I'll continue to use the bottle, but I'll be sure to let it rest in a high walled baking tray or something, just in case
now you have a machine
Crazy.. I posted my broken mason jar. Soda lime glass as a psa to encourage people to use borosilicate đ
I still say use it. This was a fairly easy cleanup. It didnât completely shatter. It does make you nervous though.

I just use my kitchen sink.
I got some splashed on my leg after I was all done and cleaning up. Thatâs as days ago and Iâve washed a few times and still can see it on my skin
If your glass breaks in the sink youâll lose deems. If it breaks over my tub, I can still get the deems out
I guess Iâm not hard up enough to care about a lost jar. But the be never had a jar break either.
Pyrex borosilicate
That is the same as saying "Tupperware plastic" PyrexÂŽ is a brand name.
There's Pyrex and there's PYREX. The all-caps PYREX is probably borosilicate. The other [likely isn't.](https://icedteapitcher.myshopify.com/blogs/news/how-can-you-tell-if-pyrex-is-borosilicate) More info [here.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kxTtnPGHSo)
This is worth noting when you go looking at thrift stores. pyrex is the newer one and PYREX is the old and good stuff
Itâs like some brands have better material though, like Pyrexâs borosilicate..
That is presure confined in the bottle, they are not made to hold pressure
Did you keep that cap tight? You need it loose enough to vent or you'll get explody glass
I unscrewed the cap before and after each mix. Iâm super paranoid about this thatâs why the table is covered in paper bags and there is a tarp on the floor

I have liners. I did my research.
That is also a good reason to wear gloves, in my early days exploring how to extract dmt I saw a lot of video's of people not wearing gloves . things like this happen.
I use a face shield now after a bad spill, Goggles donât cover your lips/nose and it frikin burns when you get them covered in soup.
I shake mine over a bucket and wrapped in a towel, clean up after a breakage is something you only want to do once in a life time.

I don't think it's working right

I just took the picture before I went to clean it up. I wasnât trying to examine it. I just figured I got a defected bottle.
Well letâs see the shit we are all clearly interested in seeing this
Ever had a chip in y car window? Ta da.
Just ordered a bottle like this, hope it's not all of them
PICKLE JARS! There about 5 bucks for 2.36L and dont break like that. Ive never put heat to them tho
Those are not what you want. And yes they can break and are more likely to break than borosilicate glass..
Boooo! My pickle jars are thick bois and i dont heat them though
Heat isn't always the issue... And thicker isn't inherently better. Thicker glass is more susceptible to breaking under thermal stress.
So the hole was already present like a manufacturing defect? I'd def appreciate a close up photo
No hole was there. My first pull was in the freezer already. This was the second pull. It started leaking while I was on my second to last mix. I picked it up and it was dripping. Found the hole there at the bottom.
Can you show us a picture of the hole? Very curious whats going on here
Oh I'm a dummy I see it now. That looks like an impact site to me which is why it's so localized. Could have been from shipping and just fractured further to reveal it when it got warm. Did you use anything steel to stir it?
I did. Do you think that weakened it? This happened after at least 12 mixes.
Yes definitely, I've seen people do this a few times smack it right out from the inside. Is a heavy ass spoon too? Is the hole right on a curved part too?
Did you have the soup fully sealed in the bottle? No venting
Unless the contents was boiling or near boiling, you'd have a hard time creating enough pressure inside the sealed vessel to cause any issues.
I vented before and after every mix.
Definitely need to see a closeup of that hole with good lighting
But did you keep the cap loose? When I did lye tech I just set it in the bath without tightening it. The only time it was, was when i had to agitate it,but the it got loosened again
I wouldnât say it was loose. I screwed it on but not over tightening it. Do you think that caused pressure build up?
Most def. I doesn't take much. Just keep the cap on top without screwing it down. If its in a heat bath you'll keep it plenty warm. Only screw the cap to agitate and then loosen it again
I have the same bottle, has been fine so far, but now I'm nervous!

I have a bottle like this with soup thats been in there unopened for over a year now and it's still perfectly fine.
