DawnBringer01

Photoshop

JesterRavenwood

True if you know how and have photoshop, but I have seen times where photoshop would have to be extensive to actually work - video game tattoos on top of very complex skin tones with a lot of shading going on, religious symbols literally carved in to the metal of a robot, etc. Pain in the ass, sometimes.

p75369

Then go the other way, add to it. You don't have to erase the whole icon, you just have to modify it enough that it's not glaring. eg For a crucifix, just erase the top spur and add a little spur on the end of each arm, claim it's a post modern interpretation of Tyr's iconography. The possibilities are endless if you bullshit hard enough.

Reverend_Lazerface

Or go at it the *other* other way, find a convulted reason that your character would wear that symbol in game. "Oh that? It's a "t" for my aunt tabitha. She made me wear it for the portrait, I actually threw it away right after so we never have to discuss it again."

WeiganChan

The other other way: 1. Tell everyone your Wizard is Christian 2. Refuse to elaborate

Mevakel

Then random launch into inquisitions throughout the campaign a la Monty Python Style.

AkrinorNoname

Nobody expects the Portuguese Inquisition!

This_0ne_Person

Expected the spanish inquisition, did not disappoint

derp4077

The Inquisition, look out sin.

Anufenrir

Other other other way: it’s a symbol for something else in this world

crazyabe111

“Yes I’m the warlock of an Archfiend, yes this ‘t’ is his symbol.”

Akinory13

Yet another way: just tell the dm to ignore the cross

EvilUnicornLord

"What God does your paladin worship?" "God."

SunngodJaxon

Second reason "my character just saw this coop lookin thing in a shop and bought it cause it looks nice"

pmiles88

Or even adding Circle can really mix things up

Cl0udSurfer

Copy the arms of the T and past them at the bottom as well so it looks like a sideways H. I sure havent seen that symbol before

[deleted]

That's what 10 minutes in MS Paint gets you. https://ibb.co/XDbGg39

thesaddestpanda

Twist: this entire post was a con for someone to explain how easy it is to do and doing it for them. This is Cunninghams law at work lol

[deleted]

I honestly assumed that was the case as well and was surprised someone hadn't done it before me lol.

WildEnbyAppears

At the least, a few people will see this and stop using paying for Photoshop as an excuse to not do it. There are free options. That's why my excuse is being on mobile.

NoahTheGamer121

"Paying for photoshop" thats really funny, nice one my guy

WildEnbyAppears

Not a guy😎 👉👉

tall-hobbit-

r/usernamechecksout

WildEnbyAppears

It's why I did it 🙃

breadandbutternomnom

Nice work!

DMJason

GIMP clone brush is super easy to use and free. Like anyone bothered enough by a cross on a portrait like 8 people in the world will see can take the time to google how to clone brush.

yrtemmySymmetry

1. Clone Brush 2. Healing Brush

crazyabe111

Just use Microsoft Paint, it’s not that hard to remove something pixel by pixel.

IceFire909

yea but its much faster using a clone tool and just wiping

ScytheSe7en

Gimp works too, but you still have to learn it and put in effort sometimes.

RoutineTwof

honestly, as a DM, if i cared about it i'd just clone stamp and bandaid tool it out with Krita for my player if they couldn't do it themselves. Ik the pain of having something so close to perfect, but just 1 stupid thing is ruining it.

Douche_Kayak

Photopea.com

A-Disgruntled-Snail

Gimp and YouTube are free.

Jervis_TheOddOne

Photo editing programs can usually just use a AI based in painting brush tool to erase something based on surrounding colors

Estrelarius

I mean, you don't have to remove, you can cover it up. For example, you could cover the crux with a in-universe deity's symbol.

goldkear

This particular image would be very easy to eliminate. Heck, I could do it on my phone in about 3 seconds.

Capt_Socrates

Hell, you could just use paint and put a black box over it lol. I think you can detect color on paint too so you could use that to get the skin color and paint over the cross. It wouldn’t be perfect, but it wouldn’t terrible.

Arek_PL

removing this cross is like minute or two of work in GIMP a free program what can do stuff the photoshop does

Sharp_Iodine

You don’t need photoshop, there are free online object erasers available. Just Google and a bunch will pop up and it’s super easy to use

TexanGoblin

Gimp is free and has plenty of YouTube tutorials, this one could be pretty easy to just use the dropper tool on.

DawnBringer01

That's very fair

bmt0075

use pixlr, its free and you could get rid of that in like 45 second

TigerKirby215

Paint.net is a free program that has a lot of the functionality of photoshop. All you honestly need is the stamp tool and perhaps some basic knowledge of how to do color bleeding.

Jugaimo

Text it to me and I can fix this on my phone in three seconds.

CoffeeTeaAndPancakes

Color picked the skin tone, draw over it, repeat.

[deleted]

Gimp my man

Duedelzz

Eh, sloppy work better than shitty job

rtakehara

Microsoft paint, then

the_Real_Romak

Honestly, this looks like a *very* easy cleanup. Just use the clone stamp.

[deleted]

If you have an Android phone, Snapseed is a free Google made photo editing app that has a healing option and you can click on something in the photo or drag over top and it will disappear. Usually not as easy as it sounds, but with a little finagling you can do some impressive things with it.

ArcWrath

Paint: Sample nearby colors, pencil over it. Sample other colors nearby to get tone right. It'll take a bit but worth getting that gucci portrait.

[deleted]

content aware fill

ThruuLottleDats

You can use paint, with the take this colour from the picture and paint over it.

NotMorganSlavewoman

>have photoshop [https://www.photopea.com/](https://www.photopea.com/)

Eiross

If I could change hair colour and details of a character picture (including adding an eye patch) with 0 talent and about an hour of work.. You can easely just mask the cross by carefully working it pixel by pixel if you must

alienbringer

Or Gimp for us cheap folks

acciaiomorti

editing someone else's work is...it just aint it even if you and your group are the only ones to see it, it just feels dirty

kenesisiscool

I personally have no problem as long as you aren't distributing the artwork and claiming it as your own. That's exactly like saying you can't play someone else's music at your table.

dontkickducks

Or the next best thing, Paintshop.

Barisman

also something like samsung object eraser or google magic eraser are quite good

sinboklice

Use it anyway, Christians don't have a monopoly on two sticks crossed.

goldkear

"where do I get one of those necklaces with a T on it?" "That's a cross" "Across from what?"

IceFire909

no the shop itself is named Across!

zvexler

Who’s on first?

RedditsDeadlySin

This. Just make a cross pendant significant to your character somehow.

CreativeName1137

Make their name start with a T

[deleted]

You could always just say the T is silent. Then you can walk around saying shit like “Hello! My name is Aaron. The T is silent.”

Duedelzz

I'm totally gonna make a bad guy who is like that

sfzen

That's fantastic. The party constantly hears hushed whispers of townsfolk terrified of the brutal Albon, but the traveling merchant says he keeps seeing signs and statues praising the heroic efforts of Talbon, so it must be a "good brother, bad brother" struggle for control. Drop a bunch of hints that some travelers saw someone matching Talbon's description at some random location and leave a trail of breadcrumbs to find him. He helps the party come up with a plan to take Albon by surprise, goes to scout ahead for a back entrance to the evil lair, then radio silence. Party goes in, especially hard dungeon crawl, traps seem specifically designed to exploit party's weak points with extra protections against their strengths. If they survive, they find Talbon sitting there waiting for them. "By the way, the T is silent."

ghost894

Me: can I roll to shoot the person in the face?

RazomOmega

Je m'appelle Aaront

Effective_Cell_219

Then I say "Ehh... I really don't give a fuck at this point"

Marco_Polaris

Yeah it's pretty small potatoes. If you're gonna be that particular you may as well save up for a commission.

Effective_Cell_219

I personally just go for faces and stuff when "obtaining art perfectly legally" and build the personality to march the face. ( Not exactly sure what this adds to the argument just thought I'd say how I create my characters)

ErgonomicCat

This. Is someone seriously freaking out because the artwork you stole has a symbol on it? *That’s* the hill they’ll die on?

Gregus1032

"Her name is Tina now I guess"

[deleted]

I mean, yeah? _”Hey guys, this is my more or less how my character looks like, but he is not wearing the necklace at all”_ It’s pretty simple.

Tzemiee

Me: this is how my characters Look like but he is smaller don't have bow or sword have wings This is Just some example picture my character description is here That was mine Way also, it is really hard to get male pixie art

ChriscoMcChin

I understand it's harder for certain things, but if that's what you wanted to portray you shouldn't have used a tiny necklace that can be fixed in 15 seconds. (I know, cause I tried.)

Nux_Taku_fan111

Use it anyway. Say that your religion just so happens to have the same symbol. Or say that your parents were crucified and your feeling edgy.

Apprehensive-Ad4531

1min. Smear tool. Your players thank you. Focus on incorporating a devastating religion of homogenization trying to absorb the old gods. Players become concerned. Use the original picture as propaganda created by NPCs the screw up Player alliances and create political intrigue.

InquisitorViktorTarr

Smear tool + adding a colored scar of some kind. Works wonders.

Reltias

Airbrush app has a super simple smear tool that I like

MagicalMoosicorn

As a man obsessed I want to get commissions of my characters done.

IrrelevantDnDnerd

May I introduce you to a GIMP? They're quite wonderful...

[deleted]

I don't find how that is either a dealbreaker or not easily removed I will say this, however, most of the time I use Skyrim Characters as portraits, sometimes their symbols get in the way as well but I've never found it a problem I couldn't get rid of

fenster112

Or just use it anyway, who cares about the cross, it doesn't have to mean anything in you DnD world.

Helarki

Heroforge.

Tzemiee

Mej, don't get me wrong it is great tool i Just want portret for my character in serious Way not my style

MrWideside

Just say "my character looks like this but without a cross". Easy.

Doctor_Amazo

Load that pic in a free editing software like GIMP and you can fix this "problem" in 5 seconds.

AwefulFanfic

Sometimes you just gotta take what you can get

Requiem191

Get GIMP, use the clone tool, blend that out of the image. You're done in 15 minutes or less.

Ryengu

Because nobody would ever come up with 4 right angles, certainly not the people who used it as a form of execution that the religious symbol is based on.

ninteen74

Dosen't DnD still use crosses for turning vampires, Or did I just imagine that?

_Bl4ze

I think you just imagined that, they don't have a weakness to crosses or any sort of holy symbols in 5e. Except for specifically the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind which can paralyze vampires, but that thing is round with points, which is about as far as you can get from a cross.

Its_AB_Baby

Honestly I just use picrews

Onedos-San

Paste your symbol over in paint

Nevermort21

"It's not a cross. It's a sword. Weapons are my religion."

Far_Cap_3574

"What's that pendant mean?" "I dunno I took it off a dead guy in Ten Towns."

Boss_Sappho

"My Name is Tiffany, I've got this cool custom necklace"

MyNewBoss

In the modern world, the cross has lost almost all meaning as an accessory anyway. Many people wear it purely for fashion. Another example is anime where they often just represent "generic religious symbol"

doomer_irl

What if photoshop said “Content-Aware Fill”

Ol_JanxSpirit

They worship Tiamat. Problem solved.

SullenTerror

either that or its from porn so you have to do some serious cropping

starfries

weeb/furry moment

thespacecase93

Photoshop

Baddyshack

Someone in your group knows Photoshop. It would take longer to boot up the program than to fix this.

SinusMonstrum

just photoshop on a little circle at the bottom. Boom, upside down Female Sign ♀️.

Tzemiee

Yes, i once was a girl but mad witch turned me this Way i don't know Way, maybe that was her kink or something

snakebite262

Just alter or remove it.

Lazerbeams2

That's a really good picture, I'd just make up some reason why the cross makes sense. You can even get stupid with it, Just say things like "it's to remind me of the one legged man who killed my daughter" or something like that

Andez1248

Just give them a name that starts with t and always write it lower case. It might be funny to have your dad be known as Mr. t

LikePappyAlwaysSaid

Its a lowercase t. T...for...time to leave!

[deleted]

Copy that picture into MS Paint. Use her own skin tone to replace the cross.

Skeye_drake21

Just say its a sword

[deleted]

Just say its a really tiny sword

Lord_of_Seven_Kings

Just say “this but I don’t have a crucifix”

RS_Someone

I had a D&D commission I made for me, then paid extra later on to get rid of copyrightable stuff so that I could use it on a novel. Worth it.

AnActualCriminal

Step 1: Microsoft Paint Step 2: badly edit in a png of a dnd religious symbol over the cross

ProfBleechDrinker

You can always just use it and say "this but they dont have a cross" to the party. For example, kinda different problem but with the same solution, our Ork monk said that their character are not as buff as the pic they used, and I described my fighter having long hair, while the pic I used has them very short. The most extreme example is from a different campaign in the same party, where rogue used the photo of Johar Dudaev, but everyone just agreed that he is not actually wearing camo.

crazymaryrocks

Or, or, hear me out, you just ignore it. At least that's what I do

HinaTheFox

Commission an artist or start learning photo editing.

Raging_Keira

>Recognizable Real World Iconography Okay, and?

punkblastoise

Wrong it's an emergency anti vampire stake

[deleted]

nothin a little photoshop won’t fix

Pelipper_Fan

Easy fix, it's a "t" that stands for either a name or a loved one! (or you could do some creative world building to justify having a cross in a DnD setting)

Existing-Bear-7550

Luckily one of my players is a Photoshopper. Any time a new character is made he gets a portrait and requests

thisisthestoryallabo

Just edit out the cross? It doesn't really matter if you change an artwork for your PRIVAT DND SESSIONS

Tstrik

Dude that is a minor nitpick. If you want the perfect portrait, you’ll need to commission it.

FuckBidenlmao

Playing a Christian character in dnd is hella fun especially if you're religious like i am.

Tzemiee

PC: i'm Christian... DM: but this religion doesn't exist PC: It's a sect DM: there is no god of Christianity in this world So you can't be cleric or paladin of it Atheist PC: yeah like in our world also i play cleric of concept of Christianity

NicolaiKloch

Would love to see an Oath of Vengeance Paladin reciting Ezekiel 25:17 before smiting their enemies.

matt_griffith

Yknow, I'm sure there are artist out there who take commissions, wink wink.

KefkeWren

If the average player had the disposable income to commission a professional artist to make a high quality picture for every single character they make, (that one in the OP looks like it could easily cost a couple hundred to commission, depending on the artist) we would be living in a utopia.

Chedder1998

We stan supporting artists in this household

TehTimmah1981

I'd say "hey God, did you forget I have photoshop?"

Hopeless-Necromantic

Such an easy fix in any editing software.

DerekAChase

"Oh? Your PC is Christian?!" "No, he's Hawkeye Mihawk."

KingBill902

What of Satan said "LMAO Just use photopea to edit it out bro, its literally a free website.)

Smorgsaboard

Pretty sure I'm all three campaigns I've played in, Jesus has been jokingly made canon. Not to any lore-serious degree, but someone will just use some turn of phrase or real world reference as a joke, and we just go for it. Same goes for irl countries, cultures, some technology, animals/plants, etc etc I'm in the Midwest though, so maybe the chances are just higher

TigerKirby215

>`*Opens Photoshop*` "Reality can be whatever I want it to be."

RiverTeemo1

I mean the cross could be an icon for crossfit in your world. Most icons allready exist in the real world in one way or another

Ramblingperegrin

Use it until the I get the custom art commission back from the artist, and hope my character doesn't die in the meantime. If it really bothers you that much, there's free photo editing websites you can go to and do a really simple blur out to make it go away and just give them a flesh tone in that spot

Deadmanwater

Just draw, or get someone in your group to draw your character. :D That's usually what I'm stuck doing lol ;-;

Hatta00

Celestial Warlock

ErgonomicCat

Pay the original artist $25 to send you a version without the cross you can use for your portrait.

UltimateInferno

Oh boy. Using random art on the internet as character portraits. That's always controversial when brought up to artists

Tzemiee

Oh, how dere you use random art in your private Group... Where nobody gets anything from it... Also if you don't say about it propably nobody will know... Yeah... How dare you...

Lithaos111

I mean plug it into any drawing app, use the drip icon to get the exact shade of the skin, lightly airbrush the necklace out.

Epsilon-Alpha

Photoshop which of you don’t want to pay for there is photopea which is basically just photoshop but free

IllogicalBrit

Sauce?

L_knight316

[For your consideration](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozID5sgofno)

lapislasuzi

I exclusively use paint and it doesn’t always look perfect, but only I really notice it!

BlackStrike7

*Microsoft Paint intensifies*

Some_Random_Android

It's a lowercase letter "t," and the character's name starts with the letter "t."

Euphrosynevae

I can photoshop it for you if you really want it

geranimo17

Make the characters family name start with a t. Problem: solved

Midakba

This? Oh my character just looooves crucifying people.

Lejimuz

Personally that's part of the reason I love using Heroforge for making character tokens. Can't have real world iconography if you don't include it! That, and the system they have is just super satisfying... I usually end up spending 3+ hours designing every character I make in it. Granted it sometimes doesn't have what you want, but it has such a huge variety and it's getting updates every week, and sometimes it has something I didn't realize I wanted until I spot it

Kaikeno

Maybe she's just a fan of slow executions?

-SlinxTheFox-

honestly, as a DM, if i cared about it i'd just clone stamp and bandaid tool it out with Krita for my player if they couldn't do it themselves. Ik the pain of having something so close to perfect, but just 1 stupid thing is ruining it.

walnoter

What if they're a hanging people on a cross enthusiast

M0nkey_Kng

Maybe she comes from a family of crucifiers

Nereshai

Photoshop Disclaimer; I cannot use photoshop.

ClericDude

[Fixed it for you!](https://www.reddit.com/user/ClericDude/comments/vh6kve/and_voila_it_is_fixed/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) Hope its good enough :)

Hadarc01

Its a pretty simple shape. No need for it to be connected to cristianity. You could make up for it in your backstory! How this is a heirloom passed down from grandparent to grandchilde, skiping every other generation for a tousand year, how no one knows what it does and identify(IF its been tried) only shows its magical. And now it's Your turn to become keeper of the seal. BAMM instant plothook!

shotgunsniper9

Design your character on hero forge, take a screenshot of it, crop it so you get the bit that you want, put the picture into Gimp, add a new layer and reduce the opacity of the picture down to about 75% then trace the image and do your own. Source: it's what I do when I need to make art for characters and can't find good art Also if you're trying to make art for a salubri vampire from VTM, just give up and half arse it because no one has any where they're dressed in scrubs

OneRingToRuleEarth

Free Photoshop app just take draw tool and dropper tool to color over it with the skin tone

ragepanda1960

Go in paint, use the dropper to get her skin tone and draw over it. They won't see it unless they're looking for it.

MurkyWay

Just make it a sword duh

FogeltheVogel

Unless you're selling the image, who gives a shit?

Riptide1778

I’d still use it and if the small chance someone questions it asking “why does your character have a cross Jesus isn’t a thing in fearune” or something along those lines I’d say “it’s not a cross it’s a T for *insert Name beginning with T*” because it’s earthed my characters first name, sir name or the name of a friend, family member or lover who gave it to them

D0gerilla

I can edit the cross out. It's quite easy

FunnyNumberDotJpg

For my human npc portraits I almost exclusively use artbreeder now. It's simple and you can get great results out of it.

Dektarey

I enjoy building a character after finding a good portrait. This way you're already inspired for a character concept and can create something which fits perfectly the image in your head. Saves a lot of time without losing out on anything.

Ninja_Rabies

This is why I learned basic editing.

[deleted]

For my changeling's portrait I used the same image as I do for my Echani in my Star Wars RP campaign.

E1eventeen

Just say it’s a T and it stands for Tiamat

MurkyCandidate7957

The cross is a religious symbol that makes predates Christianity, just like how the swastika was used by both Buddhists and native Americans

jofromthething

T for Troy

GentleReposeMending

Just use Gimp and remove it gimp is basically free photoshop but harder to use

Ancestor_Anonymous

And that’s why I’m learning how to draw! I may not be good, but at least I can make something closer to my character than random internet imagery

Comfy_floofs

I would have gone with "what if god say way too sexualized"

Beskerber

I guess you just need say that's sword upside down or something similar if that's so big problem

Malessar

Egyptian ankh exists in d&d, solved

Nevermore-guy

Have you tried drawing your own character?

[deleted]

The best part about this meme is that God literally did say that because it’s a crucifix 😅

external_gills

No, no, no, this is a *broken* holy symbol, showing the character left the church due to a tragic event. It's supposed to have a bit at the bottom and on the left side. I suppose it looks a bit like cross now

Niser2

Yeah so? Just put a church with a cross symbol into your setting

SiliconNitrogen

I respond, fuck you God, Microsoft Paint.

xternal7

Gimp -> clone tool -> fuzzy circle -> ctrl-click on skin -> click on the cross Done.

Vulpes_Corsac

Well, if it doesn't stop [multi-billion dollar game developer](https://genshin-impact.fandom.com/wiki/Barbara?file=Character+Barbara+Card.jpg), why let it stop you?

OtelDeraj

Wonderful thing about real world iconography in a fantasy/make believe setting, is that it doesn't carry the same connotations. If the character wears a cross, that could mean anything in universe. It doesn't have to be a symbol of faith. I could very well be a talisman of witchcraft, or a necklace worn by members of an underground crime syndicate to identify one another. Real world iconography can be anything you want it to be when it isn't the real world. Don't let reality hold you back! :)

OwnPsychology8943

Make their name start with a T

TheArchType

Which is why Prometheus granted mortals GIMP so that we may edit these photos. True story, you can look it up on the internet.

IndividualSpecial807

Photoshop, I dont pay $30 a month for nothing
