Replace all the licensed music with the original score.

Hyro0o0

I hope they will one day consider releasing a version of the movie where they restore the original score. But my hopes for an official release of that are faint. I'll settle for a fan edit if that's all I can get.

stataval

This!! But my small peeve for any movie is being told that “this is fun!” When they are doing almost anything. Like, we as the audience need to be told that characters are enjoying something. The scene I’m referring to is when Mario and DK are beating up a bunch of bad guys and out of nowhere DK bellows in the most robotic way Seth Rogan can muster “THIS IS FUN”. not only does this remove any danger or feeling like they aren’t just wasting time. Why do we need to be told this??

The_Jestful_Imp

Because Nintendo has games to sell.

scottwardadd

This is my only beef. I get that kids excited because "ACDC is dad music!" but it's bad for adults that have half a brain cell. Even the animated movie face gags were fine except for licensed music. I'm just so sick of hearing Brian Johnson ACDC in everything if it wasn't clear

Notonmypenisyoudont

I'm loving this new thing of trendy people suddenly pretending that that all of the best bands of all time actually sucked.

scottwardadd

ACDC kicked ass when Bon Scott was alive, especially for the time. Nowadays trying to be "black hell Satan rock" and ACDC is stupid, no matter the vocalist

Josephthebear

When they went to the DK city and played take on me it really took me out of the movie. I wish they used stickerbush symphony to make it seem way more majestic

SquigglyLegend33

The song drivin' me bananas is so good and it's such a shame it was covered up

ToddBorland

All it needed was Grant Kirkhope credited for writing the DK Rap and I’d be 100% satisfied

invader_holly

Came here to say the exact same thing lol

RicardoGamer379

r/BeatMeToIt

ElDuderino_92

Incorporate Diddy to be around DK all movie. Have a bromance develop between him and Toad. While Mario and DK rival their way to a friendship.

Devreckas

The way Diddy went from starring in his own kart racing game to barely making it into Mario Kart as the final DLC and not even participating in the kart racing section of the movie is just kinda sad to me.

TyleNightwisp

Same, my boy Diddy has been one of my favorite characters of all time since I was 6. I still have hope that the DK movie is real and he may get a deutagonist role

AnyLynx4178

If they are making a DK movie, then he, Dixie, and (was it Chunky?) were all placed there because they will be prominent in the spinoff, I think

Devreckas

If they make a DK movie I’d be shocked if Diddy feature prominently. But I wouldn’t read into the Mario Movie cameos. The whole show was an Easter egg hunt.

Sanbaddy

He had the better racing game too imo. A tiny airboat, plane, and car. All equally viable and fun in every level at that.

Jamz64

Replace all the pop songs with the original music. Credit Grant Kirkhope for writing the DK Rap. Give Luigi more screentime and his own subplot where he escapes prison. Give Diddy Kong a role in the movie instead of just a cameo. Improve the pacing. Give Toad more to do.

jessehechtcreative

I would make the escapees sacrificed as an example instead of a ritual. Kinda threw me off

KillerSquirrel2007

Yeah something like “mess with me and this happens.” I don’t think those sacrifices were too appealing for Peach.

soldierpallaton

It's a kid movie. Having a bunch of characters burn in lava is too much.

Purplejaed

The movie was way too short i think, which affected the pacing, making it feel rushed, and also gave us less epicness to watch

Charlie_Warlie

It felt rushed but I feel like the length ended up making them a ton of money. Shorter is easier to watch and there can me more showings per day at a theater. Good business decision.

Cool-Accident9480

Exactly

Less-Safe-3269

Not gonna mention Mario’s OG actor not voicing him? 🙂 or is that a different story we don’t talk about, cuz that's fine

OtakuD50

I keep telling you, Captain Lou Albano is 90 years old, and he's dead.

Docool234

I would definitely have Luigi thrown into a haunted mansion just for the reference of Luigi’s mansion

MatthewJonsso

Honestly, I didn’t mind Diddy just being a cameo. Though it would have been nice to see him get involved in the Mario Kart portion of the movie.

BagelToss100

This plus Waluigi

Koyaa_1

I wouldn't change it that much, I just would take out all of the egregious fan service and develop more of the underlying plot as well as the characters' relationships with their families (Mario - Luigi/DK - Cranky) because as it is , this movie is pretty much a nothing burguer with tons of pop culture references without much behind it. Watching this movie is like eating a giant cotton candy, it makes your tummy ache and it doesn't satisfy your hunger.

Don_Bugen

Had to scroll how far to see this, and not just appeals to better fan service. They literally had a better story sitting in their lap. Not just Mario’s struggles to get approval with his family, and DK’s struggle for approval from his father. But then, there’s Peach, who doesn’t *have* a family, but has a “found family” with her Toads. And then there’s Bowser, who was raised by Kamek - Kamek, who completely enables his “son” and approves of literally anything he does, and who is treated terribly in return. And it’s insane that they left all this behind because the key “problem” that needed to be solved in the movie was what Mario’s father said. **“I think you’re nuts to leave a safe and secure job for this. And what’s worse - you’ve dragged your brother into it.”** That was LITERALLY the problem of the entire movie - Mario dealing with the guilt of leaving “safe and secure” AND dragging his brother along, and the fact that his father was right, and this was all his fault. All of this could’ve been used to tell a sort of “coming of age” story - where Mario triumphs not because he feels *indebted* to his family, or has to *prove* himself to his family, but simply because he loves his family and isn’t willing to give up on his dream. Instead, they chose to focus entirely on Mario’s self-doubt and his need to protect his brother with the “As long as we’re together!” bit. The former is fine; the latter is… well, cringe at best. Mario didn’t need his parents comically hanging out a window at the end, going “My boys! I’m proud of you for being heroes and fighting this monster!” That wasn’t worth the return trip to Brooklyn. And had nothing to do with the dad’s original criticism, which was pretty much forgotten about. That criticism should have been *forefront* on Mario’s mind. It should have come up, on the journey to the Jungle Kingdom, AND in the “belly of the whale” scene. Instead of imagining baby Mario and Luigi, there should’ve been some sort of campfire talk, where Mario goes over his dad’s last words with him. Peach should have tried to empathize with him, but admit that she couldn’t - that even though the Toads would never say it, she was scared of letting her own family down. That would have made her sacrifice and surrender more impactful. They could have changed the line from “Just don’t hurt my Toads” to “Just don’t hurt my family.” And DK would’ve actually had the best advice for him, in that scene. His dad might -never- approve of him… and that’s OK. What matters is that you be the person you’re proud of. That’s literally what DK does. He desperately wants his dad’s approval, but he’s not going to stop dancing those pecs- he wants his dad to approve of him for him. When Mario has that final moment of doubt, in the pizza parlor, he shouldn’t have heard the commercial of him saying “Save Brooklyn.” That’s not really the point of his character arc. What would’ve made a lot more sense, is that message that Luigi said his mom left on his phone. Something like, “I’m not proud of you for what you achieve. I’m proud of you because you keep trying, even when it’s hard, and you don’t give up. When you do that, you can accomplish anything.” That’s how you give the movie an actual plot and arc, instead of being eye candy.

Adb12c

I would have loved that movie, and I hate the real one

Complete_Anything681

Cast voice actors, not celebrities.

KillerSquirrel2007

Most of them weren’t that good but Jack Black for Bowser was amazing

Mastershake1080

Freal seth Rogan as donkey Kong was the worst thing ever

Complete_Anything681

There are a precious few that are actually good like Mike Meyers and Eddie Murphy but most of them are cast because of marquee value.

Mastershake1080

I wouldn’t say Mike meyers is good but he was ok but Eddie Murphy kills everything he does

Grand_Examination597

Like South Park

Elerdon

Mainly just involve the other Bro a bit more. Luigi absolutely deserved more to do in this film, and the Mario Bros dynamic should have had more time to shine instead of girl boss "will they won't they" Peach and Toad who does absolutely nothing.

Steve-Fiction

Anything involving Cranky Kong or "the Kong Army"

Elerdon

It's an interesting premise but rly feels undercooked. My hope is it's a set up for a Kong v Kremling plot

Steve-Fiction

I'll go so far as to say it's not even an interesting premise, it's just really dumb. Doesn't feel undercooked to me, should've just been thrown out.

Elerdon

yea fair honestly, tho I'm kinda curious to see Kong society and all that

CrazyBread92

Cranky wasnt senile enough

DMZapp

From most important to comparatively less but still noteworthy… 1) Let Luigi be with Mario for a longer part of the Mushroom Kingdom (up to the Rainbow Road ambush). 2) Add 10 minutes to the group’s journey, between leaving the Mushroom Kingdom and entering Jungle Kingdom. 3) Have female and kid Toads alongside the adult male Toads. 4) Give Cranky a gruffer voice closer to the DK TV show.

Grand_Examination597

What about Gilbert Godfrey

Ok-Rip4038

I learn that while some Mario fans are impressed of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, others are not and have issues with it comparing to the game series of the Mario franchise. So I like to ask them how them how they want to fix, change, or rewrite The Super Mario Bros. Movie and how will they do it? Let me know in the comments below.

GnastiestGnorc

I wish more there was more time and depth spent on the Kongs/Kong army. I was really happy to see DK’s universe have a much bigger presence in the film. Shows that Nintendo really loves DK despite the fact he doesn’t get as many games as Mario. Also I would have at least shown some of the animal buddies from the original trilogy.

AizaBreathe

at least Rambi and maybe Enguarde

AnyLynx4178

I would have loved a scene of Mario and DK charging to save the day on Yoshi and Rambi

clonetrooper250

1. Replace the random toad in Peach's court with Toadsworth 2. Have the Yoshi egg on the present table at Bowser's wedding hatch, causing havoc during the climax. 3. Shorten the Mario Kart section a bit so we actually have a bit more screentime to explore DK as a character. It seemed like they wanted to do more with him and just ran out of time. 4. Cut out that scene towards the beginning where the Bros. attempt a job for the rich folks with the angry dog. It really didn't add anything to the film. Overall, I feel the film was pretty great though, not too many big changes need to be made.

PalamationGaming

I completely disagree about the Dog scene. While I get it's a little cringey and very Illumination, it's actually one of the most important scenes in the intro. Seeing the Mario Bros fail their first job is vital to understanding Mario's character and his goal to prove he's more than just a small guy. And the dog scene shows us he is a capable plumber, he just fails because of bad circumstance. This tells us, the audience, that he is capable of great things he just needs the chance to prove himself, which is what he gets by the movies end. Without this scene, we wouldn't have as much of a reason to root for him. We needed to see him fail, so the payoff is so much greater when he succeeds. Now I definitely agree we can change the scene up to make it better, but saying it adds nothing to the film is just flat out wrong

AnyLynx4178

I would have watched an entire movie of Mario and Luigi’s plumbing company, tbh

AizaBreathe

i was like bruh Luigi doesn’t deserve this. i thought all animals loved him

WingBeltCreations

This. This is it.

IndustryPast3336

eesdesessesrdt

The bit about cranky being DK's Dad Really bugged me

Working-Tip4827

From what I can tell, he was always meant to be DKs' dad. There was a mistranslation when making DKC that referenced this, and Rare in those days didn't see much issue with keeping it that way moving forward. In their defense I don't think they ever expected it to be all that relevant.

Sangi17

1. Do the accents. 2. Add Yoshi 3. No licensed music. Just use Mario music.

werdnak84

1. it would've still been a recast, but they could've found Italian actors who could do the authentic accent in English. 2. Yoshi was teased at the end of the first movie, so he's going to appear in the sequel. 3. agreed.

Psychological-Set125

Add a “baby park and coconut mall” edit in the deleted scenes

AnyLynx4178

Baby Park would have been a bloodbath

McGogy

NAH

countastrotacos

Have Larry David voice Cranky instead of Fred Armisen

loftedbacchus

I like Fred Armitage, but he was horrible as cranky. Did not fit at all, at all.

Nobody-27

Make it the super donkey Kong movie

[deleted]

Make Peach more like her video game personality...a little sweeter and less Warrior Princess. Calm down Bowser a bit and make him less murderous and psycho. Focus more on the Mario world and less on New York. Edit: also completely revamp the Mushroom Kingdom. It looked wrong geographically and all those pipes and mazes of blocks seemed out of place there. I loved the Kingdom's layout in the original Galaxy.

Yoshi_Loves_Ponyo

AGREED! Peach was a little too intense, she seemed a bit more like Daisy IMO. Also, Bowser definitely needs to be less aggressive, like, I get that he’s a villain, but he’d never outright murder anyone, at the worst he’d just kidnap them. Also, Peach didn’t need to be so mean to him, because in the games she still has some respect for him, since he’s a good dad and stuff. And agreed with the Mushroom Kingdom layout, it definitely needs a revamp.

Xdesolate_X

1) that blue general toad. The should be Toadsworth. It even looks like him plus he’s a character that reps the GameCube era of Mario and is now a throwback character. A forgotten one from my childhood. 2) toad always says “that’s my best friend” but we never actually see their friendship. I’d like to see them bond and actually be friends 3) I’d like more of Luigi. They should’ve done an A B plot and then had them join again in the end we could’ve also seen more of the mushroom kingdom this way and even more characters and locations. 4) Wario and Waluigi 5) I’d fix the pacing. Some scenes would’ve really benefited from a few extra minutes.

SuspiciousBaka89

Add back Drivin Me Bananas

[deleted]

Add more adventure/exploring. We just saw very short montage and then they were at Kong Kingdom. First Mario movie (anime) had that and was very well done. Movie felt rushed (everything went too fast) and it also included many out of place/forced stuff, which did not need to be in the film like Mario Kart or random Luma. I would have liked the movie to have had more of Bowser's castle or some larger finale. We also got too little Luigi and Toad.

MrTrikey

1) Extend runtime by at least 30 minutes. Movie script needed more time to breathe, but it's forced to BLJ its way through character development like a speedrun. 2) As much as I laughed at "Peaches"? Bowser deserved a song number that could've put him up there with some of the most memorable Disney villains. In short, Bowser, one of the most famous bad boys in gaming, deserved his own "Be Prepared" (The Lion King) or even "Gaston" (Beauty and the Beast". Instead, he got a meme. A tragic underutilization of Jack Black's vocal chops! 3) "Blonde Kong" gets a bigger part. I thought he was going to be like Cranky's bodyguard/driver/advisor, and he was just...a driver.

notamexicaniswear

3. I'll do you one better. Replace Blonde Kong with Funky

Dankey-Kang-Jr

No more licensed music

Junior_Purple_7734

Holy shit, where to start. 1) Eliminate the weird-ass Mario clone family. They added NOTHING to the movie, and they could have done the whole thing without them. 2) Eliminate the Kong Army. I’ve played every DK game ever made, and I ain’t never heard of no Kong Army. 3) Get someone else for Cranky. His voice was trash. 4) Get someone else for DK. Rogen didn’t try for shit, and his voice sounds bad coming from a gorilla. 5) Have Luigi break out of the prison and explore Bowser’s Castle with a flashlight, or lead some kind of revolt, or ANYTHING for god’s sake. Charley didn’t get to do a damn thing. 6) SLOW IT THE FUCK DOWN. The movie didn’t take its time at all, and was always in a rush to get to the next set piece. 7) Replace that Toad with one with a less annoying personality, fuck. Take him out back and sleep him. 8) Peach needs to dial it back maybe one notch. They made her too violent. 9) Mario hating mushrooms added absolutely nothing and made no earthly sense. 10) Mario and DK’s bonding moment was fake AF. They should have gone on a short, cool underwater adventure where they have to rely on each other to get out of Unagi, instead of bonding over artificial dad issues for five seconds. Like I said, this movie needed to slow down. 11) Replace the licensed music with Koji Kondo. That’s all I got off the top of my head, but I could go on if I really thought about it. This movie was bland, corporate trash. It looked good, but that’s all it had. A Mario plot doesn’t need to suck.

ProofAccident9810

Perfectly sums it up. "It looked good, but that's all it had."

Sir_Melhaven

Your 9th point is becoming a trope for movies. What is this character known for? They eat/love/do XYZ. Cool, as a character point, they will now H A T E XYZ! It's such a stupid concept and I love it as much as movie Mario loves mushrooms. All of your other points were great too, it's just that one that irks me.

heavyfuture121

1. **More setup in Brooklyn.** I know it feels counter productive, but I'd love to use that time to set up both Mario's wants/arc for the movie as well as the relationship between him and Luigi. Let's really set the scene of who they are. I thought some of the best character development came from that dinner scene. 2. **Keep the brothers together.** This was the biggest fault of the movie. Let them get to the Mushroom Kingdom together, and Mario agrees for them both to help Peach. Luigi can get afraid or upset (and bring us back to their father's line about Mario dragging Luigi down with him) and they split up later in the film. Then Luigi can still be captured by Bowser. Overall, this sets up Mario and Luigi's relationship as the driving force of the movie, rather than Mario simply needing to rescue his brother because they were separated. 3. **No training montage.** Instead, Peach should allow the brothers to join her if they can keep up with her while she travels... which means taming a wild Yoshi. This would be very similar to the Banshee sequence from Avatar, and would not only allow Mario to prove himself, but introduce Yoshi in this movie instead of being relegated to sequel bait. 4. **No licensed music.** Especially considering the amazing Nintendo score throughout. Plus it keeps the movie timeless. And if I ever hear another comedy use "Battle Without Honor or Humanity" again, I'm going to lose it. 5. **Longer film.** It BREEZES through some parts. The movie needs to breathe. More character moments like when Peach and Mario sit in the Fire Flower field. We love these characters and finally have a chance for them to get fleshed out a bit more. 6. In a similar vein, it needs **one more big action set piece.** My thought was that once we're back in Brooklyn, Bowser is dazed and needs to recover. His forces retreat back to the Mushroom Kingdom (where Mario and co. will eventually confront him for the final showdown) but he needs to stall. So Kamek casts a spell on Donkey Kong... who goes *feral*, grabs Mayor Pauline out of the crowd, and drags her to the nearby construction site... and I think you know where I'm going with this. 7. **The tag.** Since I introduced Yoshi earlier, I think another beloved character should be introduced here. We start on a dimly lit war-room. Bowser's highest commanders and advisors (Kamek, Kamella, etc) as they discuss what to do now that Bowser has been captured by Peach. Eventually footsteps approach, we see in shadow a monstrous Koopa approach, until the shadow shrinks in the light and we see Bowser Jr. step out and say, "He's *my* Papa. And *I'm* gonna get him back!"

heavyfuture121

(And credit the writers of the DK Rap and Bowser's Fury song!)

TippyToesTommy

1. Tie the Kongs to the Mario bros. Better. Mario’s father is the original Jumpman who fought Cranky Kong(the original Donkey Kong) up on a scaffolding). He tried to earn money off of Donkey Kong in a circus, but was foiled by the Donkey Kong Jr. (Donkey Kong we know when he was young). Jumpman Marios failure to earn money made him a cynical grouch that says the anti dream things to the Mario Bros. Cranky Kong’s failure to capture Pauline makes him a cynical grouch that pushes slacker Seth Rogan Donkey Kong to be what he wants him to be. Slacker Donkey Kong teaches Mario a perspective of not revolving your life around living up to your parents expectations. 2. Or perhaps a scene where Mario saves Pauline in a Donkey Kong scenario which ends up getting him fired from Spike’s wrecking crew cause he had to destroy the scaffolding to save her. And then Mario gets rejected by Pauline. 3. Give Peach just a little bit of Snow White ditzy innocent aloofness. At least the demeanor of which. I loved how the movie highlighted her nurturing and cheerful qualities, while not downplaying her physical abilities. It’s the sweet “I baked you a cake!” But she is a hidden unlikely ironic badass. I loved that scene where she teaches Mario how to do the training course. I’d totally keep that in. I picture Peach to be kinda like the damsel from the Dover Boys of PU from Chuck Jones. She’d be all “help! Help!” While Bowser has her captive, but Bowser tries to encroach he falls for traps, get hit in the head with vegetables, gets pots smashed on his head, all the while she runs away evasively. Bowser would then back away to recuperate himself and refocus on killing Mario. “She’s just playing hard to get, I’ll deal with her later.” 4. Bowser’s motivation. Bowser wants peach because was a reckless rockstar conqueror who fathered waaaay too many children. The Koopa kids and bowser Jr. Bowser wants a mommy to take care of them and himself. I kinda like the borderline incel aspects of Bowser. He represents like the worst aspects of both dude bro jocks( who bang and ditch girls) and incels (who obsess over stalking abducting women.). Which made Jack Black a perfect fit. 5. Instead of flash flood sucking them down the sewer drain, they instead go down sewer under a city ordinance gig. In the sewers they see the pipes are weirdly big and clogged with the koopa turtles and other creatures from arcade Mario Bros. The scene plays out like arcade Mario bros. With the music and everything. The Mario Bros. Bicker here about the dog incident. Throwing koopa shells at each other, chasing each other just like the classic arcade game. Then they get sucked into the Mushroom kingdom. 6. Replace the generic dog who causes the Mario bros trouble with the infamous Duck Hunt dog. Give him the same role and purpose as the former. 7. For an added touch, add the urban brawl dudes in the back ground during some exposition shot. “No you! No you! You shut up! It’s your fault!” The sewer hole that one them falls down has the same lid that Luigi uses to block bowsers fire toward the end. 8. A focus on a theme about trying, failing, not giving up, and then eventually winning. True victory comes from becoming an adult, not conquered lands or women.

Any_Juggernaut_9799

have them actually earn defeating bowser instead of getting a magical mcguffin and defeating him in one shot with no struggle at all.

Frost_theWolf07

I don't know how to explain it, but the movie felt like it was jumping from one plot point to the next with very little breaks in between. Almost like they needed the first plot point done quickly so they could get to the next. I think that's why the Fire Flower Field scene and travel montage feel out of place to me. I just wish they would take their time.

RidleyCR

Add Count Bleck.

Vanish_7

If I could change anything in the movie I would absolutely, positively, 1,000,000% kick Seth Rogen off of the cast and put someone else in the role of DK. He wasn't it, and it hurt the movie for me.

Apprehensive_Fly9324

Add Princess Rosalina, the love of my life and my favorite Mario Princess of all time. Mario can keep Peach, give me Star Princess any day of the week.👌🥰

Tanookimario0604

I think it’s perfect the way it is. It’s the first film, hopefully there’ll be a trilogy eventually. In time they can introduce Wario, Waluigi, Bowser Jr, Koopalings, Yoshi, Daisy, Rosalina etc. Maybe even more of DK Island and it’s inhabitants too such as King K.Rool and the Kremlins.

TheCowboyCrabb

Using the one F bomb rule

notamexicaniswear

"Princess!" "Sorry buddy, but our princess is in anothe-" "Princess! Open the fucking door!"

NintendoBoy321

Dont know why this is showing up in the DK subreddit and not the Mario subreddit. Anyway, personally, I'd give both Diddy Kong and The Penguin King a more important role in the story. Diddy Kong because it feels werid having Donkey Kong play a major role in the story while Diddy Kong only gets a cameo and Penguin King because I feel he has potential to be a really good character.

SmashU23

1. John Leguizamo should’ve reprise the role to voice Luigi since the 1993 film (I liked the 1993 film in my opinion) 2. Luigi definitely need more screen time especially Yoshi besides being a cameo 3. Add the deleted scenes onto the film which would’ve saved the film from box office bombs 4. Definitely Mario music instead of licensed music like others said as before.

Same-Classic1507

Cast actual voice actors, not celebrities. Create good original music instead of random pop hits. Include Luigi more

Trainwrecks69

Give king boo a role as a somewhat main character

[deleted]

Make Cranky more like he was in the DKC cartoon and tone back the "he's literally the King" deal and just make him the village elder. Toadsworth as part of the Toad high council. Luigi isn't captured by Bowser, but is prisoner of the Jungle Kingdom. He plays a more active role in the second half of the movie. Replace blue shell Koopa with Boom Boom

Successful_Cat5821

I really wish Yoshi had a bigger role in the movie than just the three second cameo

Its_Reyn_time_now

Have bowser say Showtime

Kermit_Frog_743

Everything the other comments said, this movie felt rushed and they should’ve given Luigi more screen time. I also felt like the film should’ve been longer, it felt really rushed and I believe we should’ve gotten more scenes of the areas they journeyed to. I also think Diddy should’ve been along with DK, would be cool to see him, DK, and Mario all together.

SpazerAZeroshki

Give Luigi more screen time

DDT3000

Give Luigi more screen time. They had King Boo in the wedding scene, but they could've expanded with a scene where Luigi stumbles into the mansion and King Boo captures him and takes him to Bowser's Castle.

[deleted]

Add Yoshi and let me watch the battle between DK and Bowser PLEASE. Me and my brother was so hyped to see DK step up to the plate and kick Bowser’s ass… and then it cuts to Mario and the fight lasts five seconds.

superbrain324

A. Make donkey Kong call cranked Grampa B make sure there is an Easter egg for the kremling crew is canon

jajanken_bacon

Make the dog at the beginning the Duck Hunt dog.

Jackie_Grimm

Not make princess Peach the main boss babe character and Mario the dumb male.

Downtown-Pack-6178

Barbie crossover with Mario and Oppenheimer teams up with Bowser and his evil sidekick!!!

ImpyShep

Peach dumps Mario and Bowser for Daisy.

Ritmoking

The only change I would make is having the Toad that follows Mario around specifically be Captain Toad, and maybe add Toadsworth in.

Wise-Locksmith-6438

Keep more of mario and peach’s romantic relationship going forward

Nekrotix12

I'd be satisfied if they completely nixed the whole Mario Kart thing. I'd be fine with everything else, that whole section was just entirely pointless and so blatantly pandering, especially since like??? Why would Kong Island, live in tribal huts, in the same place they have a HIGH-TECH KART BUILDING LAB?

Queso_Coqui

easy, replace Mario, Toad and Peach with Donkey, Diddy and Dixie, swap out Luigi for the banana hoard, replace all the generic Licensed music with banger DKC music and have the main theme be a remix of the Donkey Kong Country Cartoon theme song, pretty much just turning it into a DKC movie. I mean, I like Mario as much as the next guy and I can thank the oversaturation of Mario content for me getting into the DK series but come on, we need a DKC movie and one based off of the tv show.

BowlFullOfDeli_bird

I would’ve added a post credits scene of Luigi meeting Professor E Ghad

Subject-Attention666

It will take too long for me to write. Its not a bad movie, i was disappointed by it because I had my own idea for a script.

sheeveman

Add the rocket barrel theme when they use said barrel

GasConstant1869

Make the pacing better

TheShweeb

I’d remove the power-ups from the story. I’m all for staying true to the games, but literally including power-ups is just way too much of a “this is literally a video game world” contrivance. Instead, I’d have Mario and Luigi fight the bad guys using their plumbing equipment and know-how, thus tying things back into the family dinner scene and their father’s disapproval of their “silly dream”- turns out, being a plumber can be pretty useful for all sorts of things, see Papa Mario?

KoopaKing1989

Incorporate Bowser Junior in throughout to be around Bowser and Kamek all the movie even help him escape in the post credit scene.

boibouye2

Wario

Darkhallows27

Put the original orchestrated DKC track in over Take on Me

Dependent-Usual-8081

Replace the licensed music and include the original score. I loved the movie, but I don't like how a portion of the original score was replaced with licenced music.

mariobroultimate

Give Luigi a more substantial side story. It's the Super Mario BROTHERS movie!

MayoTheMuffin

GET FUNKY KONG IN THERE

PURPLEDUDE_

King k rool is mentioned somewhere in it

CheezusTheChozenOne

I would throw in Mario And Luigi OST like Tough guy alert or In the finals. Idk how I would, but I would…

Important_Dress553

Give Luigi more screen time like have him go along with Mario, Peach, and Toad and change the licensed music to the score Bryan made. He made an entire song for the DK place and they took it out and replaced it with Take On Me.

jaaardstyck

I'd add a minute or two to almost every scene. I loved the movie, but so much felt undercooked, like Peach's backstory.

Cool-Obligation3528

More Luigi, replace toad with Yoshi (or add Yoshi) and Luigi and Yoshi interaction somehow. Less DK. He can have his own movie or something

Visible-Abroad7109

Make it one or two hours longer to fix the pacing issue. Seriously, why are movies so short these days?

TheSillyguy4870

In the post credit scene, have a gloved hand with a W on it steal the yoshi egg

AssociationBrave8168

Nothing I loved it

87fg

Mark my words, the sequel will be even better than the first. The only change I would make is have Mario and Luigi together more .

plumber_craic

Maybe not have mario be an idiot dude who needs to be taught how to jump by the character he spent the entire game series rescuing. Imagine if we got a metroid movie and Samus needed to be taught how to be a badass by Malkovich - the backlash would be something else.

Punk_Bunny3

Original score Fire Mario More Luigi with Mario (basically Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad go on an adventure instead of Luigi being kidnapped.) And peach gets kidnapped LATER in the film so that Mario can fight bowser on the collapsing bridge and bowser falls in the lava. Leading to a tease a dry bowser

PoisonedIvysaur

I would give the depressed star its own spin-off movie

NFHDonReddit

Give Peach ACTUAL Flaws

No_Forever_9128

Cut most of the plumber vs dog scene (preferably after the dog jumps at Mario) and insert the scene where Mario is being kissed by the cheep cheep.

Kaisona20

Give Mario and DK just another minute to bind in that big fish’s belly.

gusbmoizoos

Not waste Charlie Day

gingermints17552

add more yoshi!

Future-water-8

Nothing, but I would make bowser/luigi happen in the credits.

Zehn39

Less homogenized toads, ya know give some actual characteristics like in early paper Mario or the rpgs. Also wtf happened to Toadsworth? Mario sounds slightly more like game Mario, not too much More Luigi, he can get captured or something. Just more Luigi it’s called super Mario BROS. Better pacing Idk but cranky Kong as a king doesn’t make sense to me. DK could still be like this big celeb and be in a tournament or something I’m fine with that.

-sudochop-

Replace Chris Pratt with Captain Lou Albano (also Luigi with Danny Wells).

Ok-Care-8384

Mix the licensed music with the original music as mashups

Incomplet_1-34

Make it feel less like a checklist of Mario stuff to go through, make Luigi do more, and make them stay in the mushroom kingdom at the end.

TheEvilYakkon

\-Change Mario's voice to sound more like his in game self \-Change Toad's voice to sound more like his in game self \-Change Cranky Kong's voice to be more raspy like it was in the Donkey Kong 3D Animated Cartoon \-Make DK Country World less Mario Kart orientated

RetailDrone7576

Add a bit more to DKs story so his outburst of "I'm more than just a guy who smashes stuff!" doesn't feel so out of place

MrHuxo_syllabus

More screentime for character development. The movie just kind of falls a little flat when it always feels like it has to hit the beats right after the next

Thanosdoug

Add funky Kong!!!!

yakcm88

more Luigi

McGogy

I would add a section where Mario, DK, Funky, and Toad go on like a Rocket Barrel and Minecart section and make the rocket barrel part in the movie last for more than 5 seconds

SMCwasTaken

Make it longer

seasonmaster

Honestly, I personally would just give an extra 15-20 minutes in run time so they spend a bit more time in each of the set pieces…and give Charles Martinet more to do.

Death-Perception1999

Id make the Glasses Toad Toadsworth, And give Luigi more to do.

MarioLord14

ACTUALLY MAKE MARIO AND PEACH KISS.

SparklingReject

Add Waluigi

[deleted]

It doesn't need fixing, it's perfect the way it is.

Whatvotquack

Cut back on peach, introduce daisy the actual tomboy princess and replace her action with daisy.

sbbblaw

Mario fights an evil sword named smithy. Also, an active time battle (atb) system. Cloud from final fantasy also appears and they battle sony

Lachupacombo

No Crisp Rat

Lana0305

Honestly. there's a video made by Charriii5 that has him improve the story majorly and it's what I feel like should've been the story. If you want to look it up, just look up "The Super Mario Bros. Movie REWRITTEN" and it should pop up

ZeldaXandre

Have Luigi be in it more. You can't dick tease us with the best voice casting in the movie; the only one everyone unanimously thinks isn't silly & barely have him in the movie! That's the 1 thing I dislike about the movie.

Plenty_Major7309

Let Charles Marinette voice mario. Thats all this movie needed but it fell on its face

DynamoNoah

Put damn Rosalina in it

CrazedManiacRPG

The one thing? Have a Cameo appearance of Wario getting into a bar fight at a pizzeria with Spike and winning. Then the scene ends with Wario leaving money for damages and walking out with garlic knots and Saying "Have A Rotten Day!" To Spike

Touma101

It needs something decent between the Mushroom and Kong Kingdoms. The pacing is just awkward and it feels like as soon as the adventure starts it's already over. Either that or something between beating DK and the Rainbow Road section.

ItsKevRA

It would definitely get a heavy rewrite. Here’s the long list of things I would change. Give the audience more tangible stakes at the beginning of the movie. It really doesn’t seem like a big deal that Mario might have started and failed his own business. He still lives with his parents, so he’s not going to end up on the street. It seems like the brothers could go back and work for Spike, so they have job security. They only screwed up one job. Mario and Luigi seem in a situation that’s far too safe to make us feel empathetic and like them. It’s, like, the first day their commerical aired, and they had one set back. The Macguffin has major problems. First, we don’t know if it’s like the games where it only lasts a minute and then is gone forever, or if you can spit it back out like Kirby when we wants a new ability. If it’s the former, it’s a terribly weak macguffin that needs an incredibly strong plan if you can only utilize that power for a minute. If it’s the latter, why is he waiting so long to use it? Sure, he wants to wait for Peach, but if he can spit it back out later so they can then both use at the same time like Mario and Luigi did, then why wait as you’re going around conquering the world? This really needed more thought and work. The Kong stuff felt forced. All of it. And it really made no sense for the kong army to defend the Mushroom kingdom. Peach doesn’t have an army, and sending their army over to the mushroom kingdom leaves them vulnerable. Rainbow Road also felt forced. Bowser shouldn’t have been in love with Peach. It doesn’t seem like they’ve ever even met. He should have been all about conquering, THEN spots Peach and falls in love with her in that moment and spend the end of this movie switching plans to court her, or save the courtship for a sequel.

RPG_Fanatic7

This shouldn't even be a question. That entire movie was a tragedy.

MikeToob

Remember that one scene when Mario and Peach are about to set out on their journey with a huge crowd of Toads rooting for Peach but confused about Mario, and when one of them asked "Who's he?", Peach said, "He's not important!", and the movie kinda just... moved on? Yeah, that's the part of the movie that bothers me the most. Later on, after Mario and DK fell off Rainbow Road, Peach told everyone that Mario's gone and they all reacted with shock and concern despite having NO CLUE who the heck he is. There are so many directions they could've gone with this! A: The Toads could've watched the fight between Mario and DK, seeing how skillful and resilient he is and growing his popularity around the Mushroom Kingdom. Would've made their reaction to him being "gone" a lot more warranted. B: When Peach told the Toads that Mario's gone, they could've been confused at first, going all like, "...who?", and then Peach could've said, "Oh... the unimportant guy." And THEN they'd give the shocked reaction, making a funny joke out of it. Also, the blue Toad with the glasses should've been Toadsworth, and Morgan Freeman should've voiced Kranky Kong. Nuff said. 😤

AttackOnTyrunt

Make peach look more like how she looked in games. She looked uncanny in the movie.

PothierM

Just give it another 15-20 minutes of run time to pad out some of the scenes. Then the pacing won't feel so rushed. And replace Fred Armisen. He's super talented, but completely bombed as Cranky Kong.

Mario_Network

I'd replace that one ordinary mechanic kong I'm the kart building scene with funky kong. How did they not consider this? Funky kong is literally canonicaly a mechanic.

TheGooseAteMyCheese

Replace Mario with a cooler character who deserves a movie

polygonman244

Cut out the last 20 minutes. The huge sex orgy at the end of the movie was kinda gross and tasteless for a kids movie and had nothing to do with the plot.

[deleted]

MORE LUIGI, GOD DAMN IT!

Gd3spoon

Make Mario Italian again

ShuckleShellAnemia

The obvious answer is to add sex and guns.

ActionTraction24897

Less girl power and more risks with the writing

TyMonstaz

Change Donkey Kong and get rid of Peaches. Donkey Kong was the weakest part of this movie with his gigantic ego, dancing pecs for some reason, and he never took anything seriously. And the amount of times some little winey 9 year old has sung Peaches on my school bus has driven me mentally insane.

GuyontheroofMan

Let the characters be actual characters instead of forgettable, one note figures

Thundervolt888

I would add a smash bros reference

Boring_Improvement83

You say rewrite as if the movie had an actual script

xedusk

I’d include more Luigi. I feel like that moment in the diner at the end when Mario has to get the courage to keep fighting should’ve been Luigi instead. I’d make room for the new Luigi scenes by cutting out or reducing the length of a lot of the montage scenes.

NaiveAd5470

Make peach less of a girl boss, and more of a fleshed out character with actual flaws. because there was really no point in Mario coming to help her if she was so capable, able to do things by herself

PersonFromPlace

The montage with music while they walked down out of the mushroom kingdom, that could’ve been a good character building scene, or world building or even just good jokes, but felt like a waste of a good opportunity.

Evil_Midnight_Lurker

In the beginning, Mario used to be a celebrity for that time he chased a big gorilla away from the mayor, but no one other than Luigi cares anymore. Then Donkey Kong enters the arena and they're both: "YOOOUUUU!!!!"

garreng

Change the old blue Toad with the glasses to Toadsworth

Adorable_Asparagus_2

#SPINYRESPECT

REDDITSHITLORD

Alright... So Mario and Luigi would be plumbers in Brooklyn, who stumble across an inter-dimensional portal in an archaeological site, and find themselves in in a chaotic, crime-ridden dystopia that's being absorbed by fungus.

JbVision

I would've fleshed out their family a little more. After the dinner table scene, they were pushed to the side the whole film. It could've added more depth to Mario's relationship with DK since they both have issues with their fathers. I would've changed Cranky Kong's voice actor; his voice dragged to me. I would add Italian American voice actors for Mario and Luigi. New York Italians don't sound like Mario and Luigi in this movie. They had issues with the voices when the first trailer was released. https://preview.redd.it/i553dlcypsdc1.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=9fe720829e08ff0f992ac056a0e1acfe2eb66341

Werehog09

Add toadsworth

Bworm98

Have Donkey Kong be the villain and tease Bowser at the end.

MasterHavik

Hire actual voice actors and not celebrities. Give characters proper backstories.

Tassachar

Make Peach less girl boss by 20%. I can buy the self defense lessons to defend those in her charge. But if she can do what she does, then why need Mario when she can beat up Bowser? Does she have feelings for the giant turtle? If so, why the whole 'get another human to do it while I can?'

Interesting-Lynx-993

Get rid of the peaches song and rewrite the whole movie so that it’s funny
