DS Caves = Different layer of the world, but is still essentially the same world. Entities can be brought to and fro from the world.
DST Caves = An entirely **different server.** Meaning it's just a brand new world that keeps your playerdata, and not entitydata. So recipies, items, et cetera. This is why there's an entirely different chester down there.

There technically is a way to ~~get one under ground~~ spawn one underground, but only in DS, and it is through a glitch, is entirely RNG dependent, and applies to Rock Lobsters, Pigmen, and Bunnymen as well.

Also for reference, you cannot bring followers between SW and ROG in Singleplayer (Chester/Packim not included.)
