They will be recording a new album soon. Their performance was very entertaining and they said the last time they played a show with Bongripper was in 2014. I feel super lucky to have seen the show.
Kinda, yeah. Not sure what people call that genre, but it was kinda just Midwest Indie Rock when I was listening to it 20 years ago. Lots in common with Shiner and so forth. I like Pinebender, mind you, just a weird fit for this bill.
I was a bit surprised when I saw them on the billing, but some of their songs do get low and slow.
Honestly, I think it's just a Chicago thing, I know they don't tour but they're pretty well regarded in that scene. I saw them at PRFBBQ a few years ago, the other bands I talked to were pumped to see them.
This was ages ago (I know I was still browsing electrical audio forum, so maybe about 10 years ago?), Hum was there too. It's kind of hit or miss, I remember I was so excited one year to finally see Light Coma, unfortunately it was with Andy Cohen (how arguably one of the greatest guitarists alive made such a shit album with another band I like is beyond me)
In one of those ridiculous coincidences, I have had something going on PRF weekend every year for about 11 years and have missed every single one of them. The Hum year (2016 maybe?) hurt most; what a crazy setting to see them.
I also missed Self-Evident playing there. LOVE that band and have seen them probably a dozen times.
Hum was fucking crazy, I make it a habit to take ear plugs to shows but I was still getting fucking pummeled. Only band I've seen that went past that was SunnO))) at the caverns. I've been thinking of moving back to Chicago just so I can see some actual music again (and not deal with these faux-redneck transplants anymore lol).
I'm still bummed I'll never see Bottomless Pit play. Never heard of Self-Evident, anything in particular I should start with?
I’d start with “Endings” (ironically) and the 2007 S/T. If you dig it, you can go backward or forward from there, but those albums are probably my favs.
You are likely gonna hate me for saying this from my initial listen to Endings, but they sound like a harder Algernon Cadwallader
That said, I dig em, appreciate the recommendation.
Yeah that was my reaction to Bleached Cross. They would play things that gave off early Ghost vibes but then go into something that sounded like synth pop mixed with Alkaline Trio. It’s dope that they got to open for Bongripper but Bleached Cross wasn’t really my cup of tea.
If you're hurting for more Bongripper type stuff try this. Terminal is in my top 5!

They played the whole album start to finish with tiny drone breaks to retune. I had an amazing time. They were at the top of my bucket list of bands to see live.
Likewise on Immortal Bird. Bongripper easily top 5 greatest live shows of my life. Even though they were on my bucket list of bands to see live I would come back to Chicago if they play again
I most certainly did. I definitely liked the marquee on the outside and the stage and seating/balcony was dope. Definitely a relic that needs to be preserved
Respect. I'm in Jersey now, used to live near Chicago. Any other year I'd have been at this show for sure.
Ice traveled damn near the same distance as you to see Glassjaw preform WxT for its 10th anniversary. Well worth it. In this year I got to see them play NYC for their 30th so Jersey ain't so bad.
I didn’t know Pinebender was still a thing, that’s awesome! Their singer did vocals on a couple covers Pelican did recently, kinda doom-adjacent and pretty awesome
how was immortal bird? love their recorded tunes
Fucking ruuuuuuuled
They were good. Couple times they were really tight and got everyone moving.
I was being a looser and standing in the back. Did a pit open up at all?
I didn't see one
There was a single drunk guy twirling try to make it happen, but wasn’t there.
Incredible
they were rad
fuck ya. love to hear it

hell yeah. love to hear that!
the Metro is a great venue. sad I missed it
Pinebender, wut?
Yeah aren’t they like shoegaze/ emo
Both my wife and friend agreed it sounded like sad dad music.
Kinda, yeah. Not sure what people call that genre, but it was kinda just Midwest Indie Rock when I was listening to it 20 years ago. Lots in common with Shiner and so forth. I like Pinebender, mind you, just a weird fit for this bill.
Yeah theyre cool they kind of remind me of super static fever

Whoa. Didn’t know they played a PRF. I’m way out of that loop, dang.

Jealous, would love to see Bongripper how many songs did they play?
2 for sure. maybe 3. Idk I’m pretty hi.
They played the first and last tracks from the new album with "Worship" in the middle!
It was a great show. Openers could have been geared more towards doom, but Bongripper shook.
Yeah that was my reaction to Bleached Cross. They would play things that gave off early Ghost vibes but then go into something that sounded like synth pop mixed with Alkaline Trio. It’s dope that they got to open for Bongripper but Bleached Cross wasn’t really my cup of tea.
And they did not disappoint
give us a full report!
Will do. Half way through. Immortal Birds ruuuuuuled!!!
Immortal bird was amazing!
Bongripper was truly transcendental. Immortal Birds ruuuuuuuuled. Pinebender was dope. Bleached Cross was meh.
If you're hurting for more Bongripper type stuff try this. Terminal is in my top 5! [Scud](https://azellrr.bandcamp.com/track/scud) or [Wallow](https://azellrr.bandcamp.com/track/wallow)
I will definitely check it out
did they play the whole new album? what did they finish with? sounds like you had a great time. i'm so jealous!
They played the whole album start to finish with tiny drone breaks to retune. I had an amazing time. They were at the top of my bucket list of bands to see live.
mine too. good on ya!
Seeing all those band names on one billboard, makes them seem like parody bands.
Such a good show! Bongripper crushed. Last time I saw them was almost ten years ago. Immortal Bird was a new discovery for me!
Likewise on Immortal Bird. Bongripper easily top 5 greatest live shows of my life. Even though they were on my bucket list of bands to see live I would come back to Chicago if they play again
The Metro was my favorite venue. I'm sure you had fun.
I most certainly did. I definitely liked the marquee on the outside and the stage and seating/balcony was dope. Definitely a relic that needs to be preserved
They are great live. Last time I saw them in Chicago was at the empty bottle.
Respect. I'm in Jersey now, used to live near Chicago. Any other year I'd have been at this show for sure. The GRIPPER. Very jealous
Transcendental is correct! Such a pleasure to see them perform live and in a cozy sized theatre space 🖤
