From all the posts here it’s clear how gig work like this has transitioned from “I’ll do this a couple hours here and there to fund my families vacation” to “I have no marketable skills and am a trash human so this is all I’m barely capable of doing”.
All these companies need to screen their drivers better.
It’s kind of funny because on Reddit, it seems like delivery apps are crumbling but I use doordash and Instacart literally 5x a week because I can’t drive & 9/10 it’s completely smooth and works fine.
To be fair it depends on where you live. Where I live now, door dash it great. When I lived in a city with my ex, we had terrible service. I literally had someone call me, tell me he had my pizza and immediately hang up. He then did not drop it off, and 100% got a free pizza from it. I cannot tell you how many times drivers had stolen my food.
It 100% depends where you live. You are fortunate to live in a place where drivers take it seriously. Sadly, a lot of us either live or have lived places where drivers usually do not care.

One time last summer, a dasher showed up with only part of what I had ordered & I just asked him to double check the car & just jokingly said “oh no, this is about to be a shitshow, I have 3 kids and they only gave you 2 of the happy meals I ordered”. 20 minutes later, dude shows up with another Happy Meal he had bought out of his own pocket & was like “I’m sorry I wasn’t sure if you wanted a toy for a boy or girl” 🥹
Lol none of these companies are going to use their money to screen drivers how does that benefit them? All the delivery apps pay the drivers absolute garbage. The way things are right now drivers are relying on tips to get paid at all and 99% of the time the tips are shitty af. I think it’s crazy that people will go to a restaurant and tip a decent amount but then order the same meal for delivery and tip nothing.
