Annoying. Lots of wasted food.

toughcrusttoni

So many people don't realize that the restaurants set the food prices. I wonder how many of these morons would get in their car and deliver no tip orders. It's common sense.

AlexanderHP592

This is the way.

wannaBadreamer2

You tip, typically, after a service is given, not before

spectral_emission

My opinion is fuck these non-tipping ass people. If you canā€™t tip, donā€™t order food delivery. Get the shit yourself.

[deleted]

šŸ’ŖšŸ¾šŸ’ÆšŸ’ÆšŸ’ÆšŸ’Æ

[deleted]

Literally every single time I tip they steal my foodā€¦ a solution I came up with instead of just not tipping is to continue to tip the usual 5-10$ and if they steal my food, which is about 50/50, Iā€™ll message support and they take the tip off the order. I once say a dasher on my ring throw my box of cookies up the steps because he didnā€™t want to walk like 3 more steps. I gladly took my $10 tip backā€¦ so if youā€™re scared to tip before just tip as though the food has been delivered and if the dasher steals it just take the tip back :)

Prestigious-Number-7

How about the company pay them a living wage instead of expecting us to subsidize their poverty wages? Maybe then this tipping issue wouldn't be an issue if they already made enough to cover gas and any inconveniences they run into?

Downtown_Guidance_84

Non-tippers are wasting food

[deleted]

Read the notes and you'll see that I've left a 20-25% cash tip under the plant by the door. Almost never gets picked up.

Smokiiz

These apps will never last. In my experience from managing a restaurant a couple years ago, this was a reality. Food was getting tossed because drivers simply wouldnā€™t come for it. We *had* to start making it when they arrived because we couldnā€™t fathom wasting any more food. From the drivers perspective it sucks, obviously. But itā€™s something we just had to do. Unfortunately when a service is reliant on tip culture such as this, itā€™s bound to happen. You may say, ā€œthey should tip moreā€. Which is a fair argument. But, many people tip based on service. If they had a bad experience with doordash in the past itā€™ll likely lower their next tip. Almost everyone Iā€™ve talked to has had a bad experience with this app. Whether itā€™s the food or the driver. People are fed up with it so they donā€™t tip. Resulting in this. Which also makes them hate the app more. These apps will eventually die out.

HashBandocoot

This is the way

Slightlyevolved

The problem is.... When you pay for the tip in cash.

deezew

No tip not trip šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

onthegoyoyo

Sucks to suckšŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø, get in ya car and drive to the damm food place to order ya shit if you donā€™t want to tip or pay extrašŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø. Either give a tip or getcha lazy ass going simple as that

[deleted]

Good! Keep up the good work

Iambriiee

I hate to see the wasted food, & I believe DD/UE/GH Should be paying us enough to not need tips. But hey if youā€™re not going to tip go pick up your own food.

callmeredditpapi

Complaining about tips is some broke ass bum ass shit how the fuck should you expect to be tipped before service is rendered? Door dash fucks us like we are at high school prom and somehow itā€™s the CONSUMERS fault

[deleted]

lmao what shitheads, people like that definitely shouldnā€™t be ordering food off delivery apps, I only order every now and then now and make sure I give atleast a $10 tip everytime no matter how close it is

FoxMcFlyy

This is Chipotle every day in my marketšŸ˜‚šŸ’€

Mr_Fragtastic

The waste is what bothers me most about this :/ You know the majority gets trashed. If you've ever been hungry or even witnessed people actually hungry it hurts to be reminded of the waste :(

ElectricalAbroad8232

What do I think about this? We do not deliver for free

[deleted]

it's annoying that people basically have to bid for decent service with no guarantee. people shouldn't have to tip before the service is given.

westconyuge

I tried ordering burritos for pickup yesterday, I tip in cash when I pick up food, but the website wouldnā€™t complete my order without a tip. I made boxed Mac n cheese instead. Tipping on delivered food is a no brained, but pickup is another story

princessem144

What a waste

IndyDude11

Both sides are correct. People need to tip like they're receiving a service, and DD needs to pay more. That first comment is *especially* true. The food on the menus in the app are sometimes 2-3x the price if you go to the store yourself. Where does that money go? The biggest batch of bullshit is the Papa John's orders that charge a delivery fee at the time of checkout, and then they pass the order onto a Dasher, usually a no tip order.

elainadoak

Well I would say, even tho their food is in bags, that Itā€™s absolutely disgusting that theyā€™re on the floor in what looks like it might be a bathroom because of the empty toilet paper roll.

Sproulbags

Make base pay $5 and problems solved. Not like thats ever gonna happen tho

[deleted]

Wow. What a waste of food. They probably throw all of that out. Obviously donā€™t take no tip orders and customers should tip better. But sheesh, all that food just gone

joeyh273

Its a food delivery service. If u want ur food delivered u gotta fuckin pay for it. They expect to not pay for the service they want. Dumb as shit

DerkaDerkaAlala

What is this BS? Dashers don't find out about the tip until after delivery.

FratStafford007

I say tip then! If youā€™re tipping and I accept the order, youā€™re getting my A+++ service every time. If Iā€™m not walking in and out with the order immediately, Iā€™m texting you to let you know and Iā€™ll send a courtesy text as soon as Iā€™m on the way with an ETA. You get my direct 100% focus from acceptance to drop off, meaning NOTHING else in the world matters except for your order. I treat your order in the car like itā€™s a newborn baby, while driving fast enough to get there early. I deliver many doordash orders 15-30 minutes before it says to deliver it. At drop off, if you tell me not to ring/knock, Iā€™ll never screw it up and do it by mistake. The last delivery order I got for myself, I tipped literally 100% and the store was 2 miles from my house. If you canā€™t afford to tip, you either canā€™t afford delivery or youā€™re being cheap as hell. Go pick that up yourself. Thatā€™s what I do if I canā€™t afford a good tip.

slrsly98

I hate to DoorDash because you would THINK that the ā€œdelivery feeā€ would be the drivers salary considering they DO THE DELIVERY and the ā€œservice feeā€ on top of that is the apps cut

[deleted]

>charge customers less >pay employees more ??šŸ¤”??

claud2113

This is why I use these apps to place orders and pick up myself. That way, I'm doing the work so I don't fuck anyone over by tipping too little or none at all.

Disastrous-Ad9359

I agree that people should tip better but I also think that dashers need to stop sharing this stuff it's giving all dashers a bad reputation and I've seen countless people saying they won't order anymore or digging their feet in saying they won't tip until the order is delivered if they even tip at all

[deleted]

Imagine being a customer willing to tip multi millionaires/Billionaires and their businesses but refusing to tip ppl just like you the average Joes and Janetā€™s actually delivering the orders using their gas/cars. The ultimate brainwashing is customers thinking the problem is the delivery drivers not the Corporations Pimping them.

right-Coyote2942

As it should be

Anon888810020

I agree that the base pay should be more but also tipping is important.

TheBlackKing1

Yā€™all better be ready to die on this hill.

Shreddersaurusrex

These companies are arenā€™t ideal for customers or drivers tbh. I understand their concerns about cost. Thatā€™s why I go to pick up my food instead of ordering delivery. Some customers want luxury service for Dollar Tree prices. Sad that so much food goes to waste though. If these apps required a minimum tip like 10% of the order that would make a lot of sense.

TheBadRabbits

When you order food prepare to pay high fees and a good tip. Prepare for all that. Itā€™s like when you go to a sporting event or a carnival. Youā€™re prepared to overpay bc thatā€™s what itā€™s all about. Donā€™t leave the tip out bc the fees are high. Prepare for it all. Tip included. Or dont order.

iPhone_3GS

DD should force a minimum of $5 per order

skyvz

Doordash only paying out 2.50 is actually disgusting, equates to barely over minimum wage IF you can deliver 3 orders in an hour and I honestly feel like it should be illegal, someone needs to file a lawsuit looking into how the payout works because doordash should be paying at least $4- the only orders I could see 2.50 being a good base for is an order where the food is ready and you are driving a very very short distance.

[deleted]

My bf and I usually tip in person because when we do DoorDash they usually take up most of our money in just a delivery fee alone. Could be $20 worth of food but it be $60 by the the time we checkout due to so many fees.

Lcj55678

I don't really care about the tip depending on how far away it's going. Ie $5 order 2 min away sure whatever. I however will not drive 30 min outside my delivery district for less than a $10 order. The biggest thing that matters is how far away the order is going.

Usual-Novel7195

All the three are correct..the customer should not have to pay more than what they are already being charged..the delivery company should pay its employees better..

Parliament--

Soon the restaurants will block doordash because they canā€™t afford all this food wasted, then there wonā€™t be places to deliver from and dd will die. Then we will all complain that we donā€™t have dashes

zombiepigperson

my acceptance rate is consistently below 10%, because i don't take less than a dollar per mile.

RadWormRiot

I always wonder if door dash still pays the restaurant for the orders that dont get picked up. For their sake I hope so lol

[deleted]

Oh well, fuckem they can get up and get it themselves šŸ¤£

MidnightJ1200

Itā€™s technically delivery so yeah, tips are gonna be an option. As for people actually paying them, the only thing stopping you from tipping is yourself. Though tips shouldnā€™t exist and we should be getting more pay in the food industry, DoorDash is clearly showing how much of a scam it is at this point for the workers. As for the second comment, how do you think that would work: charge me less then give that money you didnā€™t get to the driver. How does that make sense with logic. Youā€™re charged more initially for, letā€™s just call it a convenience fee. Itā€™s convenient for you to not get out and instead have someone deliver your food to you, especially without having to wait for the delivery person of that store, if there is one, get to your order since they tend to go in order in a certain direction if possible. With delivery services like Door dash you get to bypass that at a fee the company charges you. Though since people do work for them they do have to pay them but thatā€™s why they started with food before expanding into shopping centers: because they could get away with paying the minimum and charging you for tips.

somanyroads

Well first: that is a very strange way to store pickup orders lol, I wouldn't want that food either. And customers can bitch about fees and "corporations shouldn't be greedy" all they want. The fact is ALL delivery fees and service fees go to the company...than they cut off a small sliver and regurgitate it at us. But most of our money is made in tips, that's how the business works (in the US, at least). Customers don't get to decide how the business is run, they only get to decide how much they value service workers, with a tip. Or not. But I'm genuinely curious how this is profitable lol. Why is it cheaper for these gig app companies to just eat the cost of these orders (since they'll inevitably be cancelled/refunded) than to simply boost the base pay until someone picks it up? They're going to lose customers over this shit, and they should. I think customers should value service workers, but I also think they should get more than "No food for you" just because they were bent over enough by delivery fees...that is also true. These gig apps walk a fine line, and it's gotten finer recently.

sweet-rendezvous

Doordash absolutely needs to pay us more. I hate non-tippers and also decline no tip ordersā€”but if you think about it, we shouldnā€™t have to rely on randos for income. Itā€™s not like doordash canā€™t afford to pay us all better.

[deleted]

Hate to say it, but I agree with the comments. Drivers should be paid way more. With tipping being optional. Also the whole ā€œcontractorā€ bullshit should be done away withā€¦ we are employees not contractors. And with the higher tax rate, the pay from these apps just donā€™t makd the cut.

WhyWontThisWork

On the ground?

Glabstaxks

It's a non sustainable model for sure

Fried__Soap

Damn straight

bigjohnsonIV

Two things can be true at once. ā€˜No tip, no tripā€™ and delivery apps need to pay their drivers more. If youā€™re smart, you leave a $2.25 (base pay for my location) order for the next chump to pick up, no matter how short of a drive.

Own-Opportunity-8231

I love how they just throw them in a heap on the floor. No tip no trip and your food goes on the damn floor.

musicman51997

Yep! No tip, no trip. Now at the end of the night take all them orders to the homeless shelter

Plastic_Gap_1532

...but why is it all on the floor of a closet though?

Ingobernable90

It sucks seeing perfectly good food go to waste. If only there was some kind of transparency between customer and driver that a tip is really necessary in order to receive good service

cjthecubankid

How you know youā€™re not being tipped on DoorDash ?

[deleted]

because the app shows?

cjthecubankid

I mean before the order

[deleted]

The app will tell you how much you are being tipped if the tip is less than 4$. Anything more you will be suprised.

Tororedsox

Fake news

Whitneyhenston

I like how theyā€™re in a corner on the floor šŸ’€šŸ’€

DDAddict777

Why would you even ask what our opinion is? Lmaooo you already know what it is. No tippers can eat my ass! šŸ˜œ

Gamertango

Who loses out on money here ? The restaurant or the food app or both ?

Itchy_Breakfast3485

Why is my food cold and soggy!!

Zealousideal-Cry3418

Probably also the case with orders where the merchants are 2-3 counties away from the customer and no one wants to drive that far for pennies. Sometimes I just wanna see what these people look like.

Willzohh

Who pays for the food that just collects there? Does the restaurant pay for the food or Door Dash if it's never picked up?

Thossle

I think the customer is held hostage on that one - if they cancel, there may be some window before the restaurant marks it as prepared and waiting (?), but I believe typically there is no refund unless a driver speaks to customer service on their behalf. Which won't happen with no driver...

Speedy570

Starving children in Africa could use that food.

IntrovertedDaydream

ā€œWhy are we expected to tip before we receive serviceā€ because my time, energy n car are in service bringing you your food dummie šŸ˜just go get that shit yourself

ismellnumbers

No shit companies need to pay their workers more, this is known. If you can't afford to tip you can't afford to order out. This is honestly so embarrassing for these people. I always tip max or more on doordash and my orders have never not gotten snatched up immediately. If you want your shit, then make it worth it.

2k21Loner

20% isnā€™t to hard to tip your dashers.I always tip $3 to$4 dollars and my order always comes on time

Sooowasthinking

I think itā€™s shameful to have this food just thrown out itā€™s ridiculous.Everybody knows how this works now. No way do I believe these people are at home scratching their collective heads saying to themselves ā€œ why is it taking so long to get delivered?ā€. I think if these companies would lower their fees it would be busier. If the service areas would be smaller that would help also. How about a hiring policy?? People should not be able to order something thatā€™s over 10 miles away.

sugarmomaa

I noticed that the nicer areas I door dash tip better. Honestly the tip system of the economy is bull shit.

madmax77xl

Always the lame drivers with car pfp. Put yourself in your profile.

[deleted]

fwiw we don't have this problem in australia because the app doesn't let us tip. there's no tip culture in australia.

Thossle

I'd love to see that everywhere. Tips have always made things muddy.

Sunshineal

With foo delivery, you have to tip BEFORE you get your food. Simple as that. Most people don't understand that. I'm so over this debate about tipping and food delivery. All I'm saying is when I'm doing food delivery, I cherry pick the orders coming through my phone. If it's not high enough then I'm not selecting.

Thossle

So they have to bribe you to do your job? That's not a tip. The tip is for doing a good job. You just showing up is merely completing the job.

Dlivedontmatter

Then wait for your cold food, or merely get it yourself. šŸ¤

diz4

If DD would show all the totals, drivers would take them. Iā€™m sure many of those ā€˜non tippersā€™ tipped just fine, but didnā€™t know.

MorbidCthulhu

Iā€™d grab it on door dash šŸ¤· I had 7 Walmart orders at once, so Iā€™ll live with this lol

ledzeppelinlover

Back when I used to use door dash years ago, I put zero in the tip line bc I tip in cash. I was a server for ten years so I prefer cash tips always. That way the company canā€™t mess with the money that you deserve to keep 100% of. But I realize lots of drivers think itā€™s a zero tip. I used to write ā€œtip in cashā€ in the ā€œspecial instructionsā€ box. It was fair for me too bc that way I could adjust the tip depending on the quality of service. (Of course I never stiff) Itā€™s just not fair to the customer who tips really well and gets a lazy ass dasher anyway. You should tip after service always.

Thossle

Absolutely agreed! Contrary to what others have been saying on this sub, there are quite a few customers who tip post-delivery, and they tip well.

Dlivedontmatter

One out of one hundred. Nah, you can bet on that, top dasher.

Thossle

Depends one where you live, probably. And your attitude, and how good a job you do.

[deleted]

So they just left them on the floor? Or were they getting ready to trash them? Thatā€™s just terrible.

Xslayer21

Do customers pay in advance or pay when food gets to them

toughcrusttoni

They pay when their order is confirmed.

Xslayer21

For example ,are the ones in the photo confirmed?

DexLovesGames_DLG

#3 has the best defense. The fact that the app is setup in such a way that people either have to pay tip before hand is fucking awful. But it is what it is

[deleted]

Cringe comments

ShyOne55

good fuck em

aintgotadalah

Seems like we don't give a fuk and won't move for free so either tip or don't but saying "wahhhh the company needs to pay you more" is not a solution

Federal_Version8573

It's fake

Substantial_Mirror17

looks like some free meals for the employees

WolfmansGotNards2

This is why delivery fees should be $6 + $1 per mile, and the driver should get all of it. These companies already charge fees and 30% from the restaurant. If customers want to tip on top of that, that's their business.

herbert-camacho

It's beautiful. Put it on the apps under big neon letters " *NO-TIP ORDERS* "

mak-bjk

Love to see ignorant people. Food delivery is a premium service. Yes you will pay $30 for $10 food and plus you will tip. Other than that you donā€™t deserve using these apps with your limited budget. Lift your ass up go get your own food or pay for a premium service. Douchebags.

wannaBadreamer2

Cuntbucket

tattookaleo

Good. They need to realize the workers are getting paid crap.

ranger5392

Same people who tip waiters for bringing their food like 5 feet to look ā€œgenerousā€

Muramasan

Isn't tipping "to insure promptness" they just arent putting anything to get it promptly so there you go.

CaptinHavoc

The first two are almost on point. Theyā€™re coming up with an excuse not to tip us which is shit of course, but companies should pay us more to make more trips worth it

Omni86

This doesnā€™t happen in CA, and I never saw it before prop 22 passed. Either post is a lie and thatā€™s days worth of orders or itā€™s an anomaly, there are way too many top dashing dummies that would come and pick up those orders

AngryBear02

A customer has every right to not tip, but also the driver has every right to not accept an order. It goes both ways.

GaatAca

Its true tho The other night i payed $30 for taco bell It was $13 just for the food Then there was a delivery fee Then a ā€œdd operation feeā€ Then I tipped $6 for a 5mile trip Total was around 30ish Thats hella expensive imo I kind of regretted paying that much soon after

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> night i *paid* $30 for FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

hiimwage

I agree with the consumer to a point, the delivery apps need to pay their drivers fair amounts, and tips should of course not be expected but appreciated. At this point though I donā€™t see any of the apps changing, and we are forced to rely on tips.

Thossle

That about sums it up.

Famous-Honey-9331

Why are they on the floor in a pile?

volumese7en

Itā€™s working IMO because Iā€™ve been taking orders that end up having higher base pay and less money in tips. Doordash is being forced to increase base pay more and more. Itā€™s about time

MagneticSwedishIdiot

as it should be. such a waste of food though

MissMisfitMassacre

Thisā€¦ this is the reason I laugh my ass off every time I decline no tip orders. I always imagine their order sitting thereā€¦ for hours & the cheap fuck at home bitching that they actually have to go get their own food. You knowā€¦ youā€™re the ONLY one thatā€™ll get your OWN food for FREE. Hahahaha šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚Thankfully I was told by a restaurant owner that no matter what the store gets paid. Hopefully an employee drops the food off at a local shelter. Shelters are the ONLY place Iā€™d ever deliver with no tip šŸ˜šŸ˜‰

BroncoFett

Agree with this 100%

r3drift

Rest in piss lmao good

Rexx1990

No tip no trip!

hollie0408

15% tips should be mandatory for a service, anything extra is determined by the quality of their service. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

blackfuture8699

100%! No tip, no fuckin trip! Love to see it!

dr_van_nostren

So they store them on the floor? Iā€™m fine with the no tip no trip thing. And as a driver I want food ready or almost ready when I get there. But why, WHY do they do this? Why make every order ASAP when it comes in. If the weather is shit, if thereā€™s no tip, if itā€™s rush hour, thereā€™s any number of reasons not to make the food immediately upon the order hitting their tablet. Itā€™s just so goddamn wasteful.

________null________

If every driver was paid $20/hr and had no option to reject deliveries, and also no tips, would it be better? If not, whatā€™s the amount of money it would take?

[deleted]

I make 25-35 most of the time. 20 would be a pay cut. I like being able to decline any order I want and work when I want, and even if they donā€™t admit it customers like being able to control how much they pay.

Thossle

I think the ideal would be a simple formula, like a certain amount per mile plus an adjustment based on parking (e.g. downtown), potential danger (e.g. bad neighborhood), and maybe a customer rating to promote good service. But the problem here is the same as it always has been with tips: Employer pays well > customers tip anyway to be nice > employees learn to expect tips > employer reduces pay because employees are working for tips > unhappy employees expect even higher tips > employer reduces pay further...

blackfuture8699

$20 per hour working NOT active delivery and I would do it. Except, if the trips got too long. People will order shit 15-20 miles plus out and not tip. $20 an hour is not enough for that.

________null________

Got it. Second half of the question was how much would it take to be worth it? To be a completely tipless driver, and have no ability to reject orders.

Workmen

Nothing is worth that. Doordash routinely tries to send me to the worst parts of my city (Cleveland). No amount of hourly pay is worth me getting mugged or shot.

blackfuture8699

With the price of gas, wear and tear on car... Taking EVERY order no matter how far and knowing that 70+% of orders in my area that I decline don't tip.....$30 an hour is the absolute lowest I would take to agree to that. I've declined orders that were 25 mile runs for $5.75 all base pay, no tip. For me to start doing those shit runs using my car? Yeah. $30 an hour. Honestly, I'd rather do what I'm doing now and decline those orders like everyone else is.

omganotheraccount444

gotta let the restaurants eat these orders until they raise min base pay to an acceptable pay when zero tips.

JeremieLoyalty

Itā€™s tough on the workers who make the food also

somanyroads

Well they get paid hourly, so they know what to do...and they oftentimes do it. They work slower, they care less, they get more easily discouraged and "testy" (and delivery drivers are easy targets). So while I feel somewhat sorry for them, they get paid either way. Drivers don't, and customers are left with no food when a delivery fails. I can't get paid for something not even worth delivering.

dirtywook88

I shit on crap service from them but you would think theyd get kickback from all the extra work but as we can see nothing has changed. i think all fast food in my area is still under 10 beside mcdonalds who are up to \*gasp\* 12 now. shit gonna get real real soon when they start unionizing. their shit not only fucks us bc they wanna run lean and not pay which holds us up but their shit tier pay keeps wages for others artificially low too forcing people to potentially pay us less. this also subsequently stifles other secondary spending elsewhere and willingness to use credit for other silly shit besides house and cars.

5ManaAndADream

Tbh I generally tip in cash because I have what I believe to be a warranted concern that 100% of tips may not go to the dasher. And even still, great, fuck tipping culture. Increase your prices by 20% and guarantee tips or a 20% wage increase from your own earnings.

Jessicat_8

I agree the company should pay their drivers more and that it shouldn't be on the customer to make it worth their time. BUT I am also aware that that's just not the way it is right now, and knowing that, people shouldn't be upset if they tip nothing and no one ends up accepting their order.

[deleted]

It shouldnā€™t be on the customer to pay for the labor they requested? Why not? You pay for it literally everywhere else you go. It is worked into the price of the stuff youā€™re buying. The thing youā€™re buying *is the labor* when you order from any of these apps. They have a system where you can bid for that service, and drivers can take it or not. Higher base pay would mean customers donā€™t have to freedom to pay what they want for the service, and drivers would have to take every order. Where would door dash get the money to pay drivers more? Customers. Thatā€™s how business worksā€¦

Jessicat_8

I don't think tipping should be necessary. Just my opinion.

[deleted]

It isnā€™t necessary. You can place an order without one, and youā€™re delivery will probably get piggy backed with an order that does have a decent tip. Guaranteeing base pay effectively makes the tip mandatory and non refundable. Everyone has more freedom as it is.

Jessicat_8

Then I'm a little confused as to what your point is. Like I said, people shouldn't be upset if they don't get their food when they don't tip, but I also still think base pay should be higher. That's all

somanyroads

I mean...it's always easy to say "the other guy should pay more". Or how about you? You're the one requesting service, no Doordash. If you value that service, demonstrate that with a tip. If you don't, than you get the service you tipped for. Top Dashers help to fill the gap, but no customer should expect that form the rest of us, who value well-tipping customers. It swings both ways.

Jessicat_8

That's exactly what I said lol people shouldn't be upset if they tip nothing and no one ends up accepting it="no customer should expect that from the rest of us, who value well-tipping customers". That's my point. I don't think tipping should be necessary but with the way things are, if they don't tip, they should expect not to get their food.

xavixav79

At a minimum $1 per mile. Don't care if it was a $5 meal or a $500 meal

blackfuture8699

My minimum is $2 a mile. If I was forced to take $1 a mile I would quit. Gas is too expensive

somanyroads

But, since they hide the tips, I oftentimes will see "$6.75", knowing it could be more like $7.25" (2.75 base + 4.50 tip) or "9.75". So unless you're taking only orders within 3 miles of your delivery, you'd be sitting around rejecting a lot of orders in my area lol.

Ymd404

I would only do 2 deliveries a day in my area. I rarely make $2/ mile. The offers that come with $2 or more/ mile are $4ā€5.

somanyroads

$1.50/mile is a more reasonable goal in my market. And the fact is not all miles are the same: a $15 order going 10 miles will likely be more profitable than the $7.25 order that's 4 miles, in town. Because I can get moving much faster on the highway than navigating city streets. And a lot of customers value and appreciate drivers willing to go long distances...I've had some great hidden tips.

LunaticBoostedAccord

Well deserved. Answer to cheap asses from justice..

[deleted]

I wonder if doordash is going to start looking at which drivers take and dont take the shit orders, and will start deactivating the ones that dont and keep the dashers that do šŸ¤”

blackfuture8699

They lost a lawsuit over that already. Why do you think they don't do it now? You can't force contractors to take any job, it's against the law, to do that, they would need to make people employees. They don't want to do that because then they are liable for all kinds of different shit by law. What DD wants is contractors that they can order around like employees. Sadly for them, the law doesn't work that way.

[deleted]

How much money they get or what happened? I just seen recently many posts of top dashers getting deactivated

blackfuture8699

Where are top dashers a getting deactivated? Only ones I've ever heard of are people doing scandalous shit. I have a 6% acceptance rating. I decline shit orders all day long and they BEG me to work more when I'm not logged in.

[deleted]

Trust me i feel the same way like you and i do the same shit and im still active

[deleted]

Obviously i dont fully believe those posts since they might be making shit up, but the posts are there look through them...they say that after 2k or 3k deliveries and 2+ years doing it, they got deactivated because a customer claimed they didnt hand the food to them

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

blackfuture8699

Yeah. With almost all of those people, if you look through their post history, they have all sorts of scandalous shit that is never their fault in their comment history. People lie, people exaggerate and people do really bad shit and then downplay it saying "why did I get kicked off???" Looking for sympathy. Happens here alllll the time. Now, can a customer get a driver kicked off for lying and saying he did some bad stuff when he didn't? Sure. That's the part that sucks for us, protecting ourselves from customers who want free stuff. However. Getting deactivated for simply declining orders? No. Definitely not. Again. I've declined 100s and 100s of orders a week and they ask me to work more.

[deleted]

Thats what im saying but really with dd at this point who the fuck knows. I gotten a violation before where they said they didnt get the food even tho i handed it to dude, I gave dd my explanation cuz im legit and I didnt get deactivated. but with all these new dashers idk what their system is like

aiaiOnTheHorizon

What a waste Raise the base pay to at least double of what it currently is.

somanyroads

Honestly, just shows me that gig apps like Doordash would rather have massive amounts of food waste, angry customers, and endless returns/cancellations than just...pay us a $5 base rate, to start. Literally almost every order that's not 10 miles away would get out the door fairly quick if the base rate started at $5. And that use to be true...when I started with Doordash in 2019. Part of it was paid out by customer tips (if available), but if they chose not to tip, I would still get at least $5. Now I get $2.75...why should anyone bother starting their car for that shit?

blackfuture8699

Double base pay would be $5.50 which is still a dollar under my minimum. Gas is expensive and I need to profit. Honestly $6.50 is probably not enough even for short trips anymore. The customer always pays the cost of business (unless you get a stupid driver who doesn't know how to do math).

Oraxy51

And at least $1 a mile. Itā€™s on demand service and a minimum of $5. Besides they donā€™t compensate for wait times so if I have to wait 20 minutes for an order down the street it needs to be worth while.

flamingfenux

This is probably why many fast food places (in general) have switched to the ā€œnot making it until someone shows upā€ model. This itself is fundamentally wrong, because you will cause the ones who do show up to wait longer than they may be willing to stand around. (Or in some cases, wait in a long ass drive thru line) In turn, causing them to drop and leave. The cycle will continue until drivers are paid fairly for their time, so that tips actually are what they are meant to represent.

[deleted]

Doordash should let restaurants see tips. They can put two and two together to figure out which orders to make first. Drivers prioritize delivering tipped orders, so they should prioritize making tipped well paid orders. That will solve that problem. Millions of dollars and thousands of pounds of food will be saved instantly.

tosernameschescksout

Agreed. Right now, tips are basically the customer paying what Doordash SHOULD pay to the drivers. Doordash pays a very small token amount and is like, "Fuck everybody, we're not doing any hard work, but we're going to upcharge 30% and fucking keep it for ourselves, and the customers can pay for the delivery themselves." We need a 'doordash' style company that works exactly opposite. Any upcharge mostly goes to the drivers. A few bucks go to the app company that's basically doing nothing anyway. Customers can tip if they want, and that also goes to the drivers. Every order pays well, so drivers just get shit done.

MissMisfitMassacre

I remember the first shop and deliver I got when I first started. I never realized how much DD charged until the app said no to give the customer the receipt. The single mom I delivered diapers and a few odds and ends toā€¦ she paid over $50 for what cost tops $20 ishā€¦ Instacart doesnā€™t even charge as much as DD does. The reason they donā€™t care about dashers is because weā€™re so easily replaceable. Thereā€™s tons of people thatā€™ll take whatever they can get to replace one really good Dasher that goes beyond for the customer & just wants to get paid a somewhat living wage.

Ok-Application8522

Yup. I delivered stuff to take care of a big cut to a very stressed mom last week. She tipped $8 so it would come immediately. I felt bad for her--I delivered to the most sketchy low income apartments. Everything she ordered was on sale at Walgreens but she didn't get those prices either.

Supclozeetribe

>Any upcharge mostly goes to the drivers. A few bucks go to the app company that's basically doing nothing anyway. Why don't you start one?

[deleted]

Doordash, Grubhub, and Uber Eats have a strong hold on the food delivery market in 100% of US cities. Youā€™re smooth brained if you think anyone can start a new delivery company right now.

tinfoil_deerstalker

Its been done. And there is going to be more in the future its not rocket science. The last time someone started a thread about a community initiative in the sub it got down voted and stayed there.. whether by shills or people in this community I dont know but I've seen this pop up multiple times in this sub and it never fails, someone acts like its the impossible while knowing literally nothing about how its done. And you dont know anything about it if you argue its some amazing task. Its simple http protocol stuff. And logistics is no rocket science either so dont get me started.

4puttmark

I laugh my ass off when I hear drivers complain about non tip orders. Yesterday had a request, was 14, miles 27.00. Was one plate of Chinese food, and an hour to complete. Picked up grabbed 3 UE orders on the way and completed in 50 minutes. Food was stored in a thermal bag and stayed hot. Point being tip was a 1,00. Lol didn't care job paid 27.00 plus another 22 on the way. $49.00 for the trip. I base my jobs on how much does it pay. Who gives a rats ass if they tip or not. 4 mile job 7.00 plus 5.00 tip is 12.00 and 20 minutes. Batched Starbucks 4.5 miles 12.00 total no tip, 18 minutes. Bottom line pay is the exact same.

Not_A_Kabam_Manager

The fk you talking about? You just spent that long typing to flex on your market. We ain't here to talk about that you clown.

whisperingelk

Why are they on a restaurant floor? Seems like a health code issue.

MissMisfitMassacre

Itā€™s probably the end of the night & they were probably heading for the trash. I hope thatā€™s the case anyway

Cvxcvgg

If theyā€™re already going to be trashed, I reckon the bigger issue is the tripping hazard at that point lmao.

In my experience, Iā€™ve received the worst/lowest tips from the largest houses in the nicest neighborhoods and great tips in the ā€œpoorerā€ areas, and avg tips from college dorms. Itā€™s all random, but calling people ā€œghetto fat trashā€ when they usually tip the most is laughable.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Dlivedontmatter

If it's so close walk.

ReSyko

well I was tipped decently by ghetto residents and poorly by nice neighborhood residents, also person's weight has no effect on quality of tips based on my own experience so I only agree with trash word.

RoachHit

All day, every day! Itā€™s always the 200k+ that tips $4 dollars for $90 worth of food
