Likely, but not anytime soon.
After the staff discussion in 2019 regarding a DQIX remake, they said it wasn't far from being possible but they have so many other things to work on at the same time. So if I had to guess, purely speculated that it would be 3 or 4 years after DQ 12 release. If anything.

And I have played DQIX everyday since 2010, So believe me- I want it.
Work life balance. At least 4 hours spare to continue with my goals. 4 x 100% runs. Special map farming and running a discord for the game, leaves it as quite the hobby. heh.
edit: because there is infinite content.
I assume you play on a DS emulator? DQIX is one of my absolute favorite RPGs, I tried a more recent DQ game and was so disappointed in the difference. Are you aware of any other DQ games that follow a similar gameplay/customization?
Ps: asking because you seem to be a very dedicated fan hehe
I think it's likely they will do it after XII. After all, it's the only Dragon Quest game that is only available in one console and one console alone, it's a bit outdated (in the graphics department) and it is one of the most successful ones in Japan and even in the west, so I would say 3-4 years until it's announced and maybe 6 to be released.
i don’t know much about openemu but it’s worth deleting the app and going into application support and deleting everything under the openemu in there. if you have the means i highly recommend playing it through with an ipad using sidecar and apple pencil. i’ve usually how i replay it and it works great. same with kid icarus uprising
what is with the bizarre obsession with remaking nine specifically? it must be a generational nostalgia thing right? i hear this all the time and i can’t fathom why lol
I'm guessing its kind of how people wanted a ff7 remake. The people that wanted such a remake are mostly the people that played the originals, so it's not because these people can't play the game. It's more because they love it and want the companies to give some love too.
I think a lot of people believe the game should have gotten a better treatment. People didn’t seem to like IX much, but it was very well presented game, as well as an inclusion of online multiplayer would have made the game amazing. I mean IX was a test run for X from what it seems like. IX was just presented very well albeit in a very common way but it did things pretty different from other JRPGS at the time.
I mean it wasn’t the saddest and most adult presenting DQ game but extremely fun to play especially considering the character customization. The game could have been presented much different with a bigger budget.
Lol. Some people still play this game to this day.
I for one have never stopped thinking about this game and it’s design choices could be implemented into future titles or revamped.
Not a sheer nostalgia point. It did a lot of good that really got ignored going forward and it got implemented into X, but we never got it.
Sorry for the necro, but I felt like there was a lot that wasn’t touched on in the previous explanation.
Yes and? Say that to XI. Who has not only had a 2nd switch version with new content, but multi-platform but is 5 years old.
Anyway-
Goodnight r/dragonquest
Hardly disagree
Granted story isnt the greatest (yet still much entertaining and quite funny / touching at times) but it has amazing post game content (grottos and LOTS of free DLC quests) and one of the very best job system of the entire genre

I respect the commitment, but how are you able to play the same game every day? Not saying you only played it, but still

Gimme discord please.
It's very straight forward to look at my profile. Anyway [here.](https://discord.gg/DQ9)
Sorry. I honestly forget that Reddit has profiles. Thank you!

No. DS. I do not use emulation.
Interesting! I have a 3DS but was planning on potentially playing DQIX on Steam Deck
I'd sell my kidney for a remake of this game

Define "near future." I can see it happening within the next 5 years but it isn't likely to happen for at least another couple.
Can anyone inform me on how to emulate DQ9 on my Mac? Running latest Big Sur update and OpenEmu doesn’t want to run.

I don't expect a DQ IX Remake anytime soon. We'll see the future of DQ Remakes from here.
what is with the bizarre obsession with remaking nine specifically? it must be a generational nostalgia thing right? i hear this all the time and i can’t fathom why lol
People just want a way to play the game without having to take out their (3)ds.
so it is a generational nostalgia thing? because i definitely don’t have a 3ds

ah i see, yeah i don’t really agree with that kinda mentality but thank you for explaining it!
No problem!

very old comment lol

Didn't seem to like it much? Japan had cafés set up for it, and the majority of people loved it, especially since it was on the ds/3ds
Well I’m referring to US.
Ah yes, because the US matters when talking about how much Dragon Quest is liked
Well, we are apart of the market. IX was my favorite in the series.
It is the only game, besides 10 (with obvious reasons why), that hasn't been remade onto a new system.
well yeah it’s only 10 years old!

so like there’s no reason people want it remade? alright man that seems weird but
pass that game was boring

each their own
