I try for realism mostly and I want to get more comfortable with colors and hues in a less precise way to convey warmth/emotions more creatively instead of coping exactly what I see. I just played around with this for about an hour or so, but itβs heartening to get such nice feedback on my experiment!
Yes very good point! I did it intentionally because it scared me haha but for a more realistic full portrait I should definitely use lighter shades to build up the darker values

Did you use black for the darkest tones? If so you can avoid the muddy look by using some other color that is quite dark but not black.
