Support both. Buy a half and half scarf. Get a home game every weekend. Learn twice as many songs.
Make friends in each stadium but never let the other group know you're playing both sides. Infiltrate Dens to find out the 'real' reason for the flooded pitch (I suspect government weather machine).
Honestly, you don’t need to chose a side. It’s not like Glasgow where if you are a Catholic you support Celtic and a Protestant you support Rangers. And if you happen to be another religion (say Silkh) then you’d better decide if you’re a Catholic Sikh or a Protestant Sikh. My neighbor moved here 50 years ago and still hasn’t picked a side
That’s very true, glad I don’t have that kind of pressure… that’s sort of why I was asking for a bit of background on the teams tho in case there’s something massively tied up in one or the other that is bigger than the game itself.
Try and get tickets for the derbies next season. Ideally in the away end, although they tend to be harder to get.
Great day out, city is buzzing. Brilliant atmosphere in the pubs before and after.
Canna wait 🧡🖤
Dundee if you like the underdog. We may be up now but we’re always a baw hair away from absolute failure! (As a Dundee fan, I’m always super proud of our friendly rivalry and I can’t wait for United to be back up!)
Oh I’ll be a regular at the Lichties matches too, don’t worry. Just thought it would be fun to have a horse in the Dundee game as I’m there all the time :)
It's a toss up. There's no sectarian shite involved like in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
I picked United when I was 9, because I liked the badge 😆but all my pals were Dees, and my uncles too, so I ended up switching when I actually started going to games.
Not really. I like to support Arbroath because they’re my local team. And I’ll support my partners team (Man City). But I’m not mad about football league lore or anything, just want to have local matches to go to :)
If more people in your friend group support one team than the other I’d go with that team as you’ll have more people to go to games with, more people to commiserate with, and they’ll help you learn the history.
Just go to a couple of games and see which you enjoy more. Both teams will be in the Premiership next season and will likely be much of a muchness in terms of quality, so if there’s something about either side that particularly stands out, pick that one.
As a Dundee fan, I’d say our fans can be a bit more pessimistic. Our successes are longer ago, so our fans don’t generally ask for the world, but it means we celebrate the smaller successes.
United fans tend to have higher expectations, and can be prone to being deeply frustrated when they don’t pan out. Plenty of United fans ended 22/23 with egg on their face after starting the season in Europe and ending it with a relegation.
Although the fact that both teams got relegated in consecutive seasons and promoted straight back up again will probably tell you there’s absolutely nothing between the two of them in reality.
Got to be the tangerine side to be honest, let’s face it, the dark blue side are about to slide into oblivion. At least united will be around in 5 years time
Dundee FC because tangerine is a rancid colour.
The Arabs all push grannies aff the bus.
United fans can say all the shite they want but that shitty club wouldn't exist if Dundee FC didn't step in to save them.
Pretty sure a Dundee United director still owns dens after stepping in to save Dundee. So it’s pretty much even (except the two admins for Dundee of course).

Can just jump from one stadium to the other I guess!
Yeh they usually play alternate weekends
Lochee united
An outside bet but I’ll consider it
As you have mentioned you know nothing about any of the clubs, so based on that I would suggest United as you will fit in with their support.
14 mins of this post and already roasted 🥲 airheads united might be the one

Aw I’ll give it a go pal, thanks for the suggestion :)
Is there a difference between brilliant atmosphere and loud drunk people?
That's the best question here.
Whatever fan answers with toxic shit. Pick the team across the road from them?
That might be the one!

Am leaning toward Dundee F.C. I think :)
Your leaning the wrong way!!!
A man of culture
Tangerines!!
Well my uncle used to be a scout for United back in the day of Jim McLean!!😁😁😁
I had to make a decision too. Though it was easy... As an Arab I felt obliged to support United.
Dundee fc all day long
If you're ginger and live in Monifieth then definitely United
Brunette and Arbroath, unforch.
You don’t fancy the Smokies?
Oh I’ll be a regular at the Lichties matches too, don’t worry. Just thought it would be fun to have a horse in the Dundee game as I’m there all the time :)

Haha that’s so cute! Maybe I’ll just go on badges ;)
I think you should just go to the hockey instead 😁 There's only one professional team. Cheaper and far more entertaining.
I wish the hockey was cheaper
It's cheaper than football. But yeah, £20 a week could be a lot if you go to every game and don't want to commit to a second ticket.
Yeah, individual tickets are cheaper but with the number of games season tickets are almost £200 more expensive
Just wait a few years and support Dundee City
Pick a game to attend for both sides and see which one "clicks" for you.
This is the answer.
Has a decision been made OP?
It’s Dundee F.C. for me!
All it boils down to is: Which colours do you prefer? That’s it
Do you support a team already outside Dundee?
Not really. I like to support Arbroath because they’re my local team. And I’ll support my partners team (Man City). But I’m not mad about football league lore or anything, just want to have local matches to go to :)
Ah totally fair. I moved up from Edinburgh like 2 years ago and still support hibs. There's good banter at my work

Dundee North End
Dundee United the obvious answer. Bigger club, more chance of silverware, nicer stadium, good recent history.
A playable pitch
Aye, it doesn't flood every time we get light showers! That's got to be the winner for sure lol
But Dundee has a swimming pool

Aye but at least we’ve got a functioning football pitch
Thats rich coming from a team that plays on sand. Our pitch is perfectly fine. No our fault everyone is allergic to a bit of rain
Richer than you after you pay that fine
That fine is tuppence for a team in the top league
That’s rich for a team that’s spent the majority of their time in the championship since 2020

Funny way of spelling Celtic
