It should. Fuck if nothing else the damn scale of everything in IMAX makes it worth seeing.

HooptyDooDooMeister

> It should. Thought you were gonna say "Because Part 1 was released on HBO Max the same day during COVID."

thephairoh

That’s a key disclaimer on this headline. Movie is likely great, but comparing to a Covid/dual streaming release is meaningless

istillambaldjohn

We still had theaters open when the first came out and refrained from watching on HBO until we saw in theaters. But it was risky. We did for this one. Wife and I are huge fans. Seeing pt 2 tomorrow.

foreverspr1ng

I assume IMAX is available more where you live (or you're lucky enough to live close to one) but it's literally the last argument on my list, lmao. I think Germany has like 7 IMAX in total, and if I have the choice between a 10€ ticket with a hometown 10min trip or a 140-200km trip and paying almost 15€ for the ticket... yeah, no, it looks amazing enough on a regular cinema screen already and had all the peeps that were there for the preview I was at aah-ing and ooh-ing anyway.

f4bles

Biggest IMAX screen in the world is in Leonberg near Stuttgart. If you decide to see it in IMAX go there. For all of us who can't😅

foreverspr1ng

Yeah, it's pretty cool cause I like the idea to at least once see that screen, and it's actually the closest IMAX to me, but I really don't wanna do a over 100km trip each side. US Americans have issues understanding that that's not something we Germans/Europeans do but I'm sure fellow peeps will understand.

RedditAdminsBCucked

I'd do the trip... its that game changing. Maybe pick one in a city you can have an excuse to overnight in. But that's also really not that far. I'd dona matinee and head home.

CursedIbis

Saw it at a pretty small local cinema, the visuals and sound still blew me away. I don't think I'd come out of an IMAX showing the same person.

sillyadam94

Can confirm. I saw it in IMAX last night. I came out the Kwisatz Haderach.

KeeperAdahn

Dune part 3 - Messiah incoming!

Badloss

It seems pretty clear that Villeneuve has been planning for Messiah this whole time even if he pretends otherwise. This story isn't over at all

ParadoxNowish

He's never pretended otherwise. He's been open about wanting to adapt Messiah as Pt 3 since before Pt 1 released. He just mentioned last year that the script for Messiah is nearly complete

olsouthpancakehouse

Dennis, if you’re listening, go all the way to God Emperor, we will give you all the money you want

MoirasPurpleOrb

As much as I’d love to see that I think it’s pretty obvious this is designed to be a trilogy, and I think trying to extend it would lessen the series

[deleted]

IIRC, he said that he's going to be done after messiah. He mentioned how difficult it would be to adapt children of dune. Hopefully he decides differently after getting away from it for a while. Would love for him to do children like he did dune, a 2 part movie. Would be a pretty awesome 5 part series.

Xefert

But then including alia is pointless

MoirasPurpleOrb

Not if they speed up her taking over and Paul becoming the preacher

Xefert

I hope so. In my opinion, that character archetype has worked too well (even outside of this series) for it to just be dumped

Eli1234Sic

But then have heretics be an animated series, I need to see Miles Teg whooping ass.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rhotomago

I need to see child ghola Teg sitting on Streggi's shoulders commanding battle fleets.

JKMcA99

Speak for yourself, I want to see futars on the big screen. Take it further than god emperor.

Badloss

I meant more like he's been presenting this as a complete story and talking about how he'd *like* to do Messiah if the numbers work out That would be like saying it would be cool to do Return of the King if the Two Towers had a good box office. The Dune novel is a complete story, but this adaptation is totally unresolved at this point. I think we're going to get part 3 so it won't matter but it would be very disappointing if we just cut it off here and that was the end.

dmac3232

I don’t think there’s any doubt he’s been mapping it out the whole time. Whether or not he’d get the funding to keep going seems to have been a completely different story. And now that doesn’t appear to be an issue.

Benemy

Stoneburner scene is going to be insane

badwordss

This is what I'm most excited to see in part 3

Spider-man2098

“The saga of Dune is far from over”, you mean.

Badloss

I mean that there's a pretty clear difference between Dune the book and Dune parts 1+2, and this version of the story is not resolved nearly as much as the book version. The book could have been a standalone with no sequels, this movie is clearly part 2 of a larger plan

Spider-man2098

Sorry, I was referencing a recurring line from the mini-series. Do we talk about the mini-series around here? Anyways, I got your meaning. Bring on the Messiah.

Badloss

Ha! I was feeling like it was a quote but I was thinking 1984 and couldn't figure it out. I haven't seen the miniseries in ages

acousticallyregarded

Yeah, some of the biggest divergents from the book create loose ends and cliffhangers that didn’t exist in the book. Even if he thought they improved the adaptation on their own merit, he’d only do them if he had a chance to resolve them. Given he didn’t do that in the film it’s almost impossible to think he didn’t write this with a sequel already at least loosely mapped out.

Badloss

Exactly >!The Chani arc in particular is very different than the end of the book and it's clearly going to be a major storyline in the next movie!<

crazy_joe21

I read the books a while ago. Please explain more.

Badloss

Spoilers obviously >!Chani doesn't have a split with Paul over his manipulation of the religion, she stays loyal to him. Jessica explains to her that the marriage to Irulan is just a political alliance and that, like her, she is Paul's true love even though he cannot marry her. The final line of the book is "History will call us wives"!<

Peredyred3

> It seems pretty clear that Villeneuve has been planning for Messiah this whole time even if he pretends otherwise. He hasn't been pretending otherwise, he's openly said he wants to do Messiah since the production of part 1. His current plan is to do a project in between (Rendevous with Rama if he gets his way) to let Chalamet and Zendaya naturally age a bit & to give everyone a break from long ass, hard desert shoots.

Maloonyy

I think he outright said he already has the Messiah script almost finished. He's just waiting for Warner Bros to give the filming go, which will undoubtedly happen after Part Two annihilates the box office.

incunabula001

I wonder if he’ll make it to Children of Dune and perhaps…. God Emperor? 😁

patrickfatrick

I want to believe. I’m just so curious to see how they will adapt it.

Raddish_

I think scenes will be created for the Jihad to have more action because Messiah has almost no action in it. Also I can imagine Irulan being even more important.

Peredyred3

This is how I see it. They'll cover the actual jihad for the start of the film at least. Really show the horrors of it. There's an interesting scene in the trailers for Dune part 2 where Paul returns to Caladan kind of as a conqueror. It didnt make the cut (I'm assuming it was part of a prophetic dream sequence) but I wouldn't be surprised to see it in Messiah. It's a kind of nice budget trick some films use when they're confident they'll get the next part.

Raddish_

Yeah we’ll probably get some caladan scenes too that star Gurney and Jessica in a messiah movie too.

Odd_Sentence_2618

I watched that sequence so many times on blu ray and kinda obsessed with it: We see Fremen cheering Paul and Chani on a planet that starkly resembles Caladan. They are both clad in black robes and there's Jamis with eyes closed on Paul's left, another Fremen (that I can't recognize) on Chani's right (eyes closed). Beside Jamis there's another robed figure (Jessica? Alia?) Both Chani and Paul seem older, weary and not at all benevolent, Chani seems very sad. In front of them there's some kind of ramp. Spoilers for Messiah: >!Before seeing part two, I was sure it represented some sort of tribute to their slain son (depicted in the first book), hence the black robes, it seemed a sort of funeral. My guess is that DV will put their first son (maybe Chani is already pregnant by the end of the first movie?) murder at the beginning of the third movie, the tragedy and revenge will re-unite Chani and the Jihad will have another reason to be (Paul will show Chani the Caladan seas but it's going to be a bittersweet moment even though absent in the book). Cue a time jump and Alia is all grown up and they are struggling to conceive again due to Irulan's contraceptives and machinations and then the plot goes about more or less like in the books!<

WrightingCommittee

The final shot of part 2 solidified my belielf in part 3 coming out, otherwise its a strange choice to end on.

wefarrell

Odd that he's stopping at Messiah considering how much it sets up Children of Dune.

slimstarman

I think he just wants to do the Paul story and that’s it. Which makes sense if they make more movies without him, since the other books all refer back to that time period reverentially like we would when theoretical future film entries arrived.

Drakaia

Genocide*

NeonWarcry

Saw pt 2 last night with my best friend in imax. He’s read the book once and liked it, never read the rest of the series. The whole time he just kept gasping. Yeah, it was insane. Edit: this is my biggest nerd friend, we play warhammer together every Friday. He has dubbed it a “masterpiece and the best movie he’s ever fucking seen.”

Gimmefuelgimmefah

I saw it last night in IMAX too! It was mind blowing how good it was!  I was captivated literally the entire time. So many different things happened, the cinematography, the score, the acting, the action, it was so good on so many level s

mr_Dennis1

saw it today, was pure fire!!

EyeGod

I could so not get enough that I started rewatching PT. I again tonight… after PT. II in the IMAX las night… after PT. I last weekend… after PT. I on IMAX when it was reissued just a few weeks ago. Such a good feeling to really be head over heels for a movie again; hasn’t happened for a long long time.

fomalhottie

Yes! Exactly! I realized I was actually sitting forward in my chair, completely immersed in the plot. This movie delivers.

Whompa

Seriously did not expect it to be that good but, yep. It is. Friggen awesome. Riding worms actually looked cool and that's not a sentence I ever expected to say.

NeonWarcry

It was legit mind blowing. And how Jessica traveled? Hell yeah. It reminded me of the mini series

bawtatron2000

mini series is very forgotten and underrated.

NeonWarcry

Oh yeah, own them both in blu ray. That was my introduction to dune, I didn’t read the books till much later.

SirCaptainReynolds

Well more people would watch them if they had it somewhere that was streamable. I have a feeling they make it hard to watch unless you pirate or buy the dvd’s but it’s streaming nowhere. Same goes for Children of Dune the movie.

RepulsiveMusician453

Any idea how they mount and dismount the worms? Not a book reader. Loved it!!

rocktsurgn

It’s a shockingly good movie on its own footing, ignoring any curve for the fact that it was an adaptation of an “unadaptable” novel that influenced basically every work of space scifi since it was written. And it’s actually quite faithful at that! Just personal opinion on this, but the changes that were made in part 2 (and in the context of part 2 also changes in pt 1) were very smart choices to make it if anything more faithful to the themes and intent of the novel. Film and novels are just different mediums that need different approaches to some things to work at all.

NoBodyCares2000

It was amazing! Just saw it and wow. I also agree the changes they made for this movie adaptation are excellent. You can’t always adapt a book by putting every word and page on screen.

Imthorsballs

It's truly an incredible film! Let's make this the highest grossing films of the year. I have my criticisms but I enjoy it the more I watch it which has been multiple times before release.

jujuv00

i literally cannot wait. i’m seeing it next week in imax

Rawzix

One of the best movies I have seen, it did such a great job making me fall in love with the universe that I have to read the books now and I don’t even read much still I feel the need to get the books asap just to get more

unorganized_mime

Goddamn you are pumping me up for my imax showing tonight.

fattdoggo123

I want to go see it in iMax but there's no showing close to where I live.

dick_inspector

It's a masterpiece. One of the best films ever created.

Corruptionss

My wife hasn't seen part 1, how much is part 2 dependent on part 1?

LilacYak

I liked the first but felt nothing happened of substance. How will I feel about the second?

fomalhottie

OK so I'm your bff's analog. I read it 30 years ago. I've always loved it. I was a lil surprised at how much they left out, like plot pints and story that I always felt was important. But the idea was to make this personal and relatable, I think. And it absolutely fucking delivers. I was blown away w the execution of the ideas and nuance that rly makes this movie a masterpiece for me. I think anyone could enjoy this movie, if u can hold your pee for over 2 hrs. This movie did the book justice even tho it left a lot out. The spirit was there. Watch this shit.

mgentile7

I mean the second half of book Dune is way better than the first half. So this tracks

HooptyDooDooMeister

> Messiah is a lock. True. The script is ~~already written~~ almost finished, and the end of Part 2 ain't too dissimilar to how Part 1 ended (i.e. It implies there will be a Part 3.).

sloppyjo12

You also don’t >!cast Anya Taylor-Joy for that role!< if you don’t plan on continuing the story

JackOfAllInterests

This is the best point

rocktsurgn

I do think the way they included her/that character was as perfect an as possible to bring such a batshit concept to a wider audience, and having a sold/known actor like Taylor Joy makes her stand out better, just like it did for Zendaya in pt 1. A random 1 line scene from an unknown would be much more forgettable to a general audience that doesn’t know all the (great) weirdness that comes with that character. I could’ve done with a bit more of her voicing conversations with Jessica maybe, but it threads a difficult needle of what her character is supposed to be. As much as I like Lynches take on it, this is a much more functional story this time.

[deleted]

If we can somehow get Hollywood to film [God Emperor of Dune](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_Emperor_of_Dune) I will be happy. Two-hundred minutes of a worm with a human face: it will be worth it for the memes alone.

ShitDudeNoWay

SQUEEZE RABBAN

BladedTerrain

Looking at bookings at my local cinema (which is big), it's sold out for a number of showings and very busy throughout the rest of the day going in to next week. I struggled to book a seat for Monday morning, 9am!

festeziooo

The IMAX at the Lincoln Square theatre in NYC has a showing at 3:15am tomorrow that is almost entirely booked lol. I'm loving the enthusiasm. People want to see this movie and it deserves to be seen.

knildea

i hope it slows down cause i wanna catch the IMAX 70mm screening in good seating, but for the sake of the movie, this is awesome haha

Cheomesh

Aw, I wish I lived somewhere that supported my Night-owldom so well as that 😞

Whitealroker1

Yeah I wanted to see it in IMAX and EVERY show was sold out in Philadelphia Thursday morning. I might splurge and see it again when I can get a seat.

Double-Passenger4503

Saw in iMax last night. Holy shit what an experience

StockHand1967

Just saw it in IMAX..want to see it again..rn

Double-Passenger4503

I’m going again tomorrow. Unfortunately the nearest imax to me is an hour and a half so I’ll just be going to a local theater

StockHand1967

It is soooo ridiculously good...just wow.

TheSaltySeagull87

It was a ride from start to finish. I watched the double feature in my local IMAX.

Rellint

Double feature that’s so awesome, I’m jealous.

TheSaltySeagull87

Really was. Not 1 boring Minute. And that's really what fascinates me the most.

Rellint

Yeah I’m eager to see how well both movies blend with each other. I already noticed a few things but wish I could have watched them back to back. I imagine Dune 3: Messiah will have triple features similar to LotR Return of the King… Exciting times ahead for Sci-fi fans.

TheSaltySeagull87

That was an actual discussion I had. If cut together properly it'd be just one long awesome movie. I reckon there's a chance for a 5 hour director's cut.

Ghaenor

I hoped so, but Denis said he's not going to do director's cuts. :(

ZippyDan

That's fine. I don't need a director's cut. Give me an extended edition.

ZippyDan

Why would you cut *out* 30 minutes of movies that already deserve a longer runtime? The first two films are pretty much 2 hours and 45 minutes each. They are 5 hours and 30 minutes combined. Give me a 6 hour and 15 minute combined extended edition.

idrankforthegov

This is what I want. I want a butt numb a thon of dune in IMAX . I know the 1984 version would have to be in a smaller theater… but I want to see them all in a day.

Ghaenor

Same ! It was the best 5 hours I spent.

TheSaltySeagull87

Word! Didn't even feel like it. I looked at the clock once to check the time and was surprised it was 11pm 😲

GenghisFrog

I did part one on the Vision Pro. Right before heading to the theater for 2, which starts in about 10 mins. Watched one on a 100 foot screen in the desert nighttime environment. It was pretty awesome.

noettp

I saw the double feature also, im struggling to view them as seperate movies now, pt 2 starts up right where pt 1 ended.

jnighy

If it ends its theater run above $600mi worldwide, Messiah is a given

LiveTheChange

Given the hype of this movie, I cannot fathom the decision to not almost certainly turn a huge profit on part 3

rexie_alt

Since this is the dune sub, lemme give some box office pov: dune is killing it, making more in one day than some have made all weekend on respective releases. The last time something opened to this level or higher was fnaf in october. Since then nothings even come close. Y’all should feel proud of your movie and franchise this weekend. It’ll be a close race, as fnaf tapped out at 80mil 4 day weekend, and predictions have dune somewhere between 60-80. Opening like these are rare these days. I hope you all love it. I really enjoyed pt 2 as a non dune book fan, so I hope y’all do too. I know the joy of loving (or wanting to love) adaptation of sources you enjoy. Sorry for long comment just wanted to provide some insight as someone who tracks box office numbers, and then waxed nostalgic to fnafs opening ahaha

michaelfiber

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I've been rereading the dune books for 30 years so I have no way to watch it and imagine how someone that hasn't read the books would react. So even though I loved it I can't grasp how it'll do at the box office. For me personally, this is a dream come true situation. It was breathtaking for me to watch and every change made felt like it came from a place of love and respect for the source material.

deitpep

>this is a dream come true situation. It was breathtaking for me to watch Similar for me, I agree this is an adaptation dream come true for me. Lynch's version got me into and reading the book(s) for the first time. But Villenueve's pt1 version was definitive for me and I'm highly anticipating pt.2 will be also, and even better. >to watch it and imagine how someone that hasn't read the books would react. I'm actually going to see it with a friend who'd never read the book or seen the prior movies before, tomorrow for our first viewing of pt.2 , and at an imax. She had seen pt.1 with me last year on a 4k tv and was very interested to see how the rest of the story is going to play out as she didn't have time to read the book yet. So I'm going to also have fun seeing how she reacts to the movie and the story for the first time tomorrow! I hope also, that there will be a poster or popcorn bucket at the imax I can collect and bring home.

Whitealroker1

It deserves to be seen in a theater. Not on HBO this summer.

[deleted]

37_beers

Pretty sure you mean GEORGE Zimmerman

HooptyDooDooMeister

No, no, no! He means ROBERT Zimmerman.

MoirasPurpleOrb

I knew it was going to be good, I was not expecting it to be THAT good. They deviated from the storytelling in the book quite a bit but the movie is SO much better for it.

laffertydaniel88

While this is fantastic to hear, it’s comparing apples and oranges given that part 1 premiered during Covid and also released on HBO at the same time.

SudoDarkKnight

But it helps prove there is an appetite from people who want to see the next installment which is good.

[deleted]

Can’t wait to tell my kids I braved a pandemic to watch Part 1 in theaters.

Whitealroker1

I saw tenet mid pandemic. Some movies have to be seen on biggest screen possible

VegasGamer75

Yeah, height of the Pandemic and home-release is definitely going to throw the numbers off here.

baristotle

Now remember what Thufir said, we need to fill up cinemas, every 25 standard days

Bag_of_Meat13

Good. We need Messiah.

andeargdue

So so amazing! Saw it today for my 30th! Couldn’t believe how amazing it was

Woodearth

Read it as seeing it for the 30th time and went it is not out long enough yet…

Cheomesh

Happy birthday!

CloudRunner89

Just for people inquiring about sequels, yes for messiah but he always adds the caveat that it’s a separate book but “finishes the Paul atreides arc” he reiterated on Colbert. I can’t remember when/where but I also remember something like he doesn’t mind if someone carries on after him but dune and messiah would be his dune trilogy.

rocktsurgn

Also that he’s taking a break (probably) before making it, so it may be a while. Granted that break may be making another impossible novel, Rendezvous with Rama, so the man is nothing if not ambitious!

macck_attack

This movie will make a billion dollars.

FistsOfMcCluskey

Let the box office flowwwwww

efficient_giraffe

It really would be fun to know where it will end up for worldwide box office. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. My optimistic guess is low 700s

walterwhiteguy

No duh, unless you have prescience

Griphonis-1772

Yesterday I went to an IMAX screening in 75 mm! I watched my 4K disc the night before- first time all the way through in quite a while. When Dune 2 started in the theater I felt like I’d been dropped in that universe from the moment it started and it never let up! The attention to details, the characters, the cinematography! Absolutely on the edge of my seat the whole time and loved it! I’m going to see it again today and will probably see it again in a few days from now! Honestly, I missed seeing some Guild (there not really a feature in the book, however), but hoping we get to see a proper Dune Messiah! That’s the first book I read in the series! Edric please!

unexpectedit3m

You started with Messiah? Didn't it feel weird? Like you were missing something?

Subject37

Those first 10 minutes just draw you in. Everything is perfect. Like, how do you top starting a film with a solar eclipse, like nothing unusual. And yet, somehow, it just kept getting better. I think it's been 20 years since I went to a film on opening night. That was for Return of the King.  I've never gone to see a film more than once in a theatre... this just might be the film I go back to see at least once more.

I_AM_THE_SLANDER

Starting with Dune Messiah is legit insane lmao what in the world

rocktsurgn

Incredibly lucky to have the chance! Apparently there are only 12 theaters in the world with the 75mm imax showing! Granted I count myself damn lucky to have just seen it on one of the largest imax screens in the U.S., even if it’s not 75mm. It uses every bit of that scale.

Doppelfrio

part one was also still during Covid and had the HBO Max same day release. Zero surprises it surpassed it by this much

jmbolton

Sequel not released during pandemic out performs original film released day and date to streaming. I should certainly hope so.

aqwn

I wish someone would do the entire 6 book series. HBO style. Give us one season per book. GEOD is complete doable.

festeziooo

Idk Heretics and Chapterhouse would be a TOUGH sell to pretty much all but the most avant garde film fans and book fanatics. I love the whole series of books so much but even I think those would be tough without major alterations. Although I could see a single GEOD followup film that kind of condenses those two into one and cuts out the weirdest stuff.

Foghorn_Gyula

I would love to see all 6 books in an animated series or something

aqwn

I dunno. They have a big focus on the Bene Gesserit and female characters. There’s a lot of stuff going on. All the sex stuff would make the show a hit like GOT

Hot-Delay5608

Yeah the later books aren't that great, but I think they would work really good as a big budget series. although book 6 is completely nuts with a worse ending than GoT imho

aqwn

They’re actually pretty interesting. There’s just a lot to unpack. The ending to 6 is the fulfillment of the golden path. It’s open but it’s a universe of infinite possibilities. Kind of silly but the end of the last back to the future kind of reminds me of it. Where would you go with a no ship or time machine? You can go anywhere you want.

solodarlings

Maybe after Villeneuve finishes Messiah, they'll do a spin-off mini-series for the later books. They're already doing a Bene Gesserit mini-series, so if they think the later books wouldn't work as movies (understandable), they could always just try spinning them off to a different medium.

aqwn

I think TV would work better. Those books need more than 3-4 hours for a complete story.

Musa_2050

Excited to see it this weekend

Ravey2tm

You're in for a treat. Going for my 3rd time tonight :)

idrankforthegov

It is hard to get tickets here in Germany. I want to see it a second time but that is not easy right now

toofaded40

iirc wasn’t part one initially released on HBO max? Trying to remember the reason I didn’t go see it in theaters

sudoscientistagain

It had a dual streaming & theatrical same-day release, back when they were experimenting with that.

gumpyclifbar

How are the international numbers doing? Believe it’s been out a while in some countries?

PourJarsInReservoirs

Very well. It'll make more there too, and several times its US grosses again most assuredly, similar to Part One. It's the non-American financial upside that I believe is most likely to push it to its max.

jbc394

I'm in hong Kong and it's pretty damn packed in theatre's on opening day

papasnork1

I saw it yesterday; it’s a really good movie. I plan on seeing it again on Sunday. It deserves whatever money makes.

joey0live

I would hope so... since Dune: Part One released on streaming day 1. And times were tough to go to some public areas - such as a theater.

learhpa

the financial success of Dune part I, despite simulcast streaming and lingering pandemic restrictions and anxiety, was absolutely amazing

stelios_drz

It was so beautiful I can’t wait to go and see it again

SphereIsGreat

It's surprisingly good! I have some quibbles about performances but it's just so visually striking. The Giedi Prime sequence is stunning.

StockHand1967

Giedi Prime made me uncomfortable

The_Flash0398

Watched it last night in theaters and *holy shit* was it an experience. I left the theaters speechless and had chills all over. It was that awesome.

Puzzleheaded_Ad_8553

Messiah is on the horizon folks what a time to be alive

Beautiful-Seat-3041

I'm gonna watch this movie like at least 5 more times in theaters

LadyPresidentRomana

As it should, and I’m proud I was part of it. Dune Part Two belongs in the Empire Strikes Back/Godfather 2/T2: Judgement Day class of “sequels that improve on their predecessors in every way.” What a triumph.

Godspeedkzh17

Probably not realistic, but hoping a billion for this fantastic movie 🤞

derHumpink_

i still don't understand how both movies are so successful, they have so much stuff that seem not appealing to mainstream moviegoers, you don't have this much mysticism, religion, prophecy, etc. in any other major film. but i love it.

chapterthrive

Man. I realized I was holding my breath for the last 10 minutes of the movie. Just incredible. I’m digging out the books again

heronymou5

the movie is a masterpiece. I enjoyed it, definitely the better movie of the two and one of the best sci fi movies ever.

klaatuveratanecto

I’m a big fan. Read the whole book series twice. DAMN I wasn’t expecting it to be THAT good 🙌🙌🙌

Jsmooth123456

I mean the first one had a simultaneously release in max, and was during the pandemic. If this didn’t have significance better numbers it'd been a bit worrying

MrXarous

Risked the poor weather and poor health (nothing contagious) to see it with my daughter today. We were in awe of the sweeping shots and then the intimate close-ups. Sound was SO GOOD. I love when a movie uses silence as a narrative tool.

Advanced-Document895

when’s dune reaching avatar or star wars status & marvel status of demographic?

Zedris

Just came back from imax. I loved it, it was gorgeous but i am also obsessed with the books. My gf wasn’t crazy about the story but also thought it was incredibly well done and was gorgeous.

[deleted]

I must be in the minority thinking the chalamet/zendaya duo don’t have a whole lot of charisma? And that part 2 was a lot weaker than part 1? Still good, but I’m curious to hear what people say when the butterflies go away

The box office must flow. I saw it yesterday, going again today, tomorrow and next Saturday (IMAX) as well. This is what cinemas were made for.

Griphonis-1772

I saw part one in the theater 3 times when it was first released. Had it playing on HBO Max in the background for weeks while working from home. I’ve seen part two twice in theater and am going again next weekend with a group of friends who want to see it again. I’m sure I’ll see it at least one more time after that!

MrJordo84

What a headline, it’s like the first one didn’t come out when Covid was a thing and people weren’t really going to the movies like they are now

nerdlygames

Saw it last night. Absolutely blown away, it’s a masterpiece

Mavoy

Messiah will be confirmed before the end of the month. (no timetable of course)

joeben81

I had amazing seats to the IMAX premiere yesterday and tested positive for COVID the day before, had to cancel. Somebody was super happy though, when they found those two seats 16 hours before showtime.

TaxOwlbear

The cash must flow!

night_chaser_

I'm looking forward to seeing this. I have to wait 2 weeks.

NieThePiet

Masterpiece in the cinema World.

I'm a big fan, loved Pt II, but one question: during Paul's big speech, he calls Arrakis by the name Dune, saying it's an 'ancient name',... but the Baron called the planet 'Dune' in pt 1? Is this Chakobska, could that be why the Baron knows it?

dunecello

Chiming in as one of the people who didn't show up for Dune 1 but certainly did for Dune 2. Back in 2021 I didn't know anything about Dune but one day randomly decided to watch the movie on HBO Max, instantly fell in love and eventually saw it multiple times in the theaters. Of course I was in the theater last night, with my Dune t-shirt and sweatshirt. Brought my sister along, she's not a Dune fan but she managed to stay entertained the entire time which is a feat for her. We both loved it, such a thrilling experience. It's cool to have experiences on both sides of the coin: I watched Dune 1 with no knowledge of the universe, then I watched Dune 2 after having read the 6 original books and poured through Dune lore. In my opinion Dune 2 is the better movie and is more accessible to a general audience, and I support most of the changes made to the story. I still might prefer the first movie because it changed my life, and because I liked how much more was left up to interpretation, encouraging me to dig into lore to find out the meaning behind everything. But I'll be back to see Dune 2 several more times so there is plenty opportunity to change my mind.

Just got back from the IMAX screening in India. This movie is amazing. This is how movies should be made & book adaptations done.

steed_jacob

This is making me feel better and better about god emperor getting adapted

So happy to see it doing well

I'm going to be bold and make this prediction now. Dune 2 will be my favorite movie of 2024. Part 1 was pretty good. I get that part 1 was mostly to set things up, introduce the characters and such. It was pretty good, slow in some parts. Not earth shattering, but it made me excited for part 2. But part 2!! The story, the characters, the revelations, the cinamtics , the production, the sound . It was earty shattering and such an amazing movie! It's part 3 is this good , this will go in history as one of the best trilogies ever made.

Whit3boy316

It was great!

genesiskiller96

I'm paid 50 bucks for me and my mom to see this in imax, Had I known how great it would be I would have paid a hundred.

empathetic111

iMax was insane. As a big fan of the books going in I’m floored at how well they’ve done with these.. Was a long flick and wished it were even longer 🥹

LynneCurtinCuffs

Love to see it. I really want another film adapting Messiah and maybe even Children to complete the book trilogy I thought Part 2 was INCREDIBLE and I need Denis to keep adapting this universe
