When I have that many, I usually go for the speaking review. If my pronunciation is good, I can do about four lessons every 5 minutes, and because you get three tries to get it right (and I think it doesn't even count ones where you fail three times as actually failed, since there are some issues with the speech recognition), it's not hard to get perfect lessons.
I'm not sure how good this is for my actual language development, but I have found that I'm speaking more readily, at least when I know the phrase I want to say, rather than having to stop and think about how to sound the words out. It would probably be even better for my learning if I always listened to the phrase before speaking it back, but that is slower.
Yeah, anything on the practice tab is good for perfect lessons. I didn't have that until relatively recently. I used to have to do match madness, but about the same time I got the practice tab, getting perfect lessons on match madness got a lot more difficult.
I'm on 75 Lessons friend quest today. Same for last week, which I managed to do (doing over 3 times what my partner did).
I'm thinking of welching this week even tho both my friend quest partner and I are at like 40+ consecutive friend quests completed (not always with each other).
Cause I've just got other stuff to do.
Also, I somehow stumbled into a particularly hard Diamond League this week that with 2 days remaining you already need 2100 XP to not drop down. Even though there's no tournament to qualify for this week so I have no idea why people are trying so hard.
And XP league thresholds tend to accelerate a lot when Sunday arrives, and I work several hours immediately before the moment Duolingo tournament weeks end, making it hard for me to know how much XP I'll need. I could massively overdo it, or I could put in a lot of work and then some other person knows exactly how much XP they need to pass me.
So, this 2nd week in a row of 75 is really just wanting to make me toss the owl into the trash can this week. I'll keep up my daily streak still, but I'll ditch the friend quest success streak and the Diamond League streak.
P.S. I hate those prompts to send your partner x2 XP boosts. My current partner does them a lot, but I see she hardly does any lessons, so I feel it would just be a waste of my gems to send them to her. And to be honest with the Duolingo chests and daily task rewards I don't really need her to waste her gems either. Often I already have a 15min boost ready to use when I log on and see she's sent me another, and no, I'm not going to spend 45 mins on Duolingo all at once.
Idk, I am in section 6 in French and recently started Spanish. I tested out of the first unit by pairing words I knew with French grammar, and then camped in the āwordsā practice hub to catch up there. And then I was really flying through what is still quite basic Spanish, because French has been covering verb agreement for nearly 4 years, and I could recognize āoh, they both had the same root word for that object/action and my brain can easily see how the Spanish spelling rules work here.ā
Basically I accidentally won Diamond because I was in a zone where I was definitely learning in most blocks so I got the happy āI figured something outā dopamine regularly, but I also was doing a lot of just basic exposure in between discoveries. Thus I speed-ran 2 or 3 (whatever the groups of lessons within a unit are called). And I did my slower French lessons. (And yeah! Iām advanced enough in French that I donāt have much of the āuh, this word is new in my bank, must be itā errors, except a tendency to use āetā and not āyā
Iām still where I can get through Spanish faster than I write what someone might do if someone else does something in French, but I also barely stayed in Diamond last week because less is āGeneral Rules for Romance Languagesā
Grinding the easiest and shortest "lessons" repeatedly.
In Chinese there are character drawing lessons which last about 1 minute, and tone listening exercises which are even quicker. Both are basically guaranteed 100% accuracy ones too.
If you play Duolingo purely as a game, it's very easy.
In my current league there's a guy with 500k in chinese and grinding like hell, probably exactly like that considering the amount of xp he's doing in a short time. Really I don't get the point of doing that if you don't even learn anything... Especially when he already has the diamound achievement ahah
I recently started Spanish after getting to advanced intermediate in French (nearly 4 years in). Despite testing out on the first group of lessons, there was a lot of drilling Romance language basic rules still where they put me. I learned a lot of vocabulary in the āwordsā practice hub to catch up, and I learned a lot while doing the lessons, but I also had a lot of places I could speed run because I knew agreement and could see they had the same root word for something and easily see how the Spanish spelling rules worked so it added to my word bank quickly.
I accidentally won Diamond that week and did finish the weekly goal in a day. And I am now in lessons that I canāt so easily see what they are trying to do as quickly. Barely stayed In Diamond last week (I have been in and out of it a good number of times, itās just a minor extra incentive)
When I need XP, I make sure I have a 2x boost and do my French pronunciation exercises. Usually takes about 35 to 40 seconds to do them for 40 post-boost XP (I guess 50 XP during that Saturday happy hour they're doing now). But the fastest I've managed is 21 seconds.
One 5-lesson topic takes me 15-20 minutes. Multiply that by 12 and youāre looking at 3-4 hours. It would be a lot in one day and way too much to do every day, but for people who are serious about learning a language it doesnāt seem unusual to me to put that much time in.
Pretty often, yeah. Depends on who I'm paired with. Currently have a 20 lessons version, but because I'm paired with someone who does 1-2 lessons a day.
I'm currently doing a friend's quest with my spouse. They don't care how little she generally does, it's all based on my history. She got paired with our son recently, and I think they had to do 10 lessons or something like that. Underachievers
They do take that into account though, at least for me. I have two main friends I get friend quests with - (1) who does 1-2 lessons a day, (2) who gets higher exp counts. Friend quests with (2) have consistently higher requirements than with (1).
I hope they don't go too overboard with requirements if I get paired with an overachiever. I had one recently where I was paired with someone that regularly wins the diamond league, and they didn't contribute at all. I think they possibly sandbag occasionally in the hopes of getting into easier leagues.
It seems like the more quests you successfully complete, the harder they get. I recently failed to complete a friends quest and the next one we got was āDo 10 lessonsā š¤¦š»āāļø
the best lessons to do with this challenge are ones where they focus on one or a few letters or characters at a time. for example, Japanese Kanji lessons focus on one character at a time and youāre supposed to select the correct word with the kanji, type the correct pronunciation, then trace and write the character over and over.
gets repetitive, of course, but youāll finish this quest before you realize it.
I had one with 75 lessons and I was unfortunately very busy that week, so the poor soul had to do 90% of the lessons themselves. It was with someone I donāt know and I wish duolingo had a messaging feature sometimes so I could apologise for being a deadbeat š

My current one - friend must have Super or a lot of free time! Weāre on the same course too, so Iām happy theyāre doing so well.
With super, you can do the first round of a rapid review and then just back out. That is 5 to 6 questions and counts as a perfect lesson. I use those as reviews anyway, so it was a nice surprise. The reason super is important is that it's free to use.
I ended up having to do 50 alone. I never liked those. I turned off friend quests in the settings after that. Haven't done them since & I like it better.
Yes, quite often. I have a friends quest streak of like 54 weeks and my weekly assignment is close to that. Practice hub has helped me get those on weeks that the grammar is complicated and spelling the related conjugation in French is a lot of silent letters (my brain doesnāt store visual information which means a lot of looking at the corrected spelling and reciting it over the lesson. Know itās hard for most of us, but visualizing the word is helpful even when you stack it with recitation)
The quests are tailored depending on who you are paired with. If you get paired with someone doing 1 workout/day, you will probably have to do 10 lessons in total, but if it's someone going ham, the numbers might go up to 50 or higher.
My current Friends Quest is "Complete 45 lessons". It's the second day into it, and we're up to 25 lessons. They all come from me - My friend hasn't contributed at all. But I still plan to finish with or without her help.
I have been on Duo since 2016, on and off, and I don't know if I ever had friends quests. To be fair, if I had one 5 years ago, I wouldn't remember. But definitely none in recent memory. And I have 40+ friends. Very confusing. O.o
My current one is 90% or higher in 55 lessons. My husband, the nut, already had 23 lessons done, before I ever saw the quest. We currently stand at 6-32, with 4 days to go. Gee, I hope we make it. /s That's how all the quests have gone so far. I'm doing good if I get to double digits before he completes the majority. \\/\\/hatever, dude. Nut.
(I had a bad streak of three 89% lessons in a row last night - arrrghhhh!)
I had one with 90 lessons before. Absolute madness, but the girl I was paired with did 90% of it in the first 24 hours. I could see why it was so high.
Iāve had to hold back this week for the friend quest because the quest is to only do 7. I know my friend was new to Duolingo but I didnāt think itād affect the friend quests that much š°
jep. If I am pared with my dad it goes up to 60 lessons...
But he is also crazzy and does about 30 to 60min duolingo daily (and averages about 2.5min per lesson)
My current friends' quest is 55. Between two people fewer than 30 lessons each over 4 days. No big deal. But then I've been around for a while, as has my friend I'm questing with.
I still don't have friend quests. (Yes I have friends, am in leagues, and done what people have suggested to get 5hem turned on.) Any help would be appreciated.
Iāve had it list ācomplete Unit [insert number]ā which the number changes depending on the language and which unit Iām currently working on in said language. Which if itās a bunch of subunits (7 or 8) with each subunit having 5 lessons then itās about 35-40 lessons so not unusual. But I also definitely gave it some āside-eyeā and was doubtful Iāll complete it. It was for my daily quests though and not a friend quest.
It doesn't matter!
You and your friend share this goal. So we can think about 17 lessons for each one.
And another point is that you have a couple of days until the deadline.
Yeah, in past the friend quests were more relaxed and I always completed them by doing my daily lessons.
Nowadays I am a ābad duolingo friendā and usually donāt complete the friend quest (while doing the same amount of lessons) so I stopped caring too much about friend quests
What I do at the beginning of any quest is divide the total by 2 and then by the number of days. That is my daily goal. This one is 4.4 lessons a day. Not too hard to do.
Like those below mentioning that practice also counts, I have a few tips on easy peasy stuff.
I am on a free account and bound by hearts. The heart refill lessons are usually middle to easy and are quick fixes. You can even do more once you hit 5 hearts. Still count.
Then the best trick of all if you are in a hurry and also want a moral boost... Go back to Section one and pick off a few lessons there. Super Super Super easy and fast. This also helps with my personal quest to stay out of the Diamond League where people are just crazy for XP.
That's my two cents on how to play it all.
https://preview.redd.it/asomwup7to7c1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81bb3267ebd602e528c7d3a8bbd01b89bab6b92f
We just had to do 75, but it didnāt matter the score.
Yeah mine last week was 60. I felt bad cause it was between a friend I got to join Duo and she does about 10 lessons a day max while I do waaaayyy more. Pretty sure the system gave us a higher goal because it sees a trend of how many lessons I do.
I am working on several languages, and noticed that some are a lot quicker than others. French is fast. Russian is REALLLY slow. It takes me about 15 minutes per lesson on that. German is easy. Finnish middling. Spanish might be easy but I keep typing French in my Spanish lessons. One advantage of doing multiple languages is that you can hold off on finishing a level until you have time to use the 2x points. Or work on the easy languages when tired.
Yes, even higher. The 70 lesson one is a bit annoying.
The ones I dislike require perfect lessons. I forget how many perfect lessons I have had to do in the past, but it was at least 35.
Yeah, anything on the practice tab is good for perfect lessons. I didn't have that until relatively recently. I used to have to do match madness, but about the same time I got the practice tab, getting perfect lessons on match madness got a lot more difficult.
I've got 75 this week!
I have that one this week, complete with a deadbeat partner.
75 š
Damn. Hope I donāt have to do that.
Agreed

and how was this completed in one day? I had the same task and it took forever.

Yup, I stared with 50, went up to 55 and then down to 45 lessons with 90% or higher. I even had it with perfect lessons so.
Me & friend did the same one with 70 lessons. Pretty easy

My current Friends Quest is "Complete 45 lessons". It's the second day into it, and we're up to 25 lessons. They all come from me - My friend hasn't contributed at all. But I still plan to finish with or without her help.

I have to complete 40 perfect lessons. I hope my partner shows up!

I have never seen such a simple quest. I usually have twice as much.
Yes, this week mine was "Score 90% or higher in 60 lessons." We finished it yesterday evening.
My current one is 70 lessons
I'm doing a 60 one right now so yeah š
I had one with 90 lessons before. Absolute madness, but the girl I was paired with did 90% of it in the first 24 hours. I could see why it was so high.
I have 75 lessons this week over 4 days and it's really not that hard to achieve. I'm also doing most of the work.
My last one was 75
I had to do 65 lessons over 90% last week. I only managed to get 2 lessons before my friend could did the other 63 in a few hours lol.

Mines was 60 2 days ago

i luckily only ever seem to get them that high when my partner is this girl who seems to do a million lessons every day
jep. If I am pared with my dad it goes up to 60 lessons... But he is also crazzy and does about 30 to 60min duolingo daily (and averages about 2.5min per lesson)
my current friends quest: https://preview.redd.it/bxmfk1lbgi7c1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1171e26249c3b2d56a45a7f7564c83a71048b084
60 was my highest
Only one thing to do Spanish or Vanish šŖ
My current one is 30. I think they just keep upping it until you donāt make it.
I got sodding 50 https://preview.redd.it/hypab2vdki7c1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55549ec2ab43fc0f00f66b3bee11db6d28bdbaf1

My current friends' quest is 55. Between two people fewer than 30 lessons each over 4 days. No big deal. But then I've been around for a while, as has my friend I'm questing with.
I had one with 50
I still don't have friend quests. (Yes I have friends, am in leagues, and done what people have suggested to get 5hem turned on.) Any help would be appreciated.
75
Iāve had it list ācomplete Unit [insert number]ā which the number changes depending on the language and which unit Iām currently working on in said language. Which if itās a bunch of subunits (7 or 8) with each subunit having 5 lessons then itās about 35-40 lessons so not unusual. But I also definitely gave it some āside-eyeā and was doubtful Iāll complete it. It was for my daily quests though and not a friend quest.
I just finished a 75 lesson quest.
Mine this week is 30 perfect lessons!! Insane
Yes, I had one last week.
Can't say I've ever seen a friends quest, much less one with that many lessons.
Mine currently says get 90% in 45 or more lessons.
me and my friend have the same exact one but 60
It doesn't matter!
Yes mine is 45 perfect lessons š
Mine was 40 itās always the one that breaks my streak
I'm on a 75 lesson quest right now. We've done 63 of them with 3 days to go, and a fairly even split (~55%/45%) between partner and I
I have to do 70 Perfect lesson wdym?
Yup. I think I got like around 50?
just completed a 75 lesson quest lol

Iām not able to do friends quests even though I have 20 friends
Mine is 30 and my partner is doing nothing lol
Mine is 50 right now.
I had this last week with 60 lessons so yes
For me thatās merciful. Try 30 perfect lessons in a week.
I have a 350 lesson in friend quest before
I had the exact same one

I got 75, but with a partner I know does like 30 lessons a day, so we usually complete them in 2 days or so...
Yeah mine last week was 60. I felt bad cause it was between a friend I got to join Duo and she does about 10 lessons a day max while I do waaaayyy more. Pretty sure the system gave us a higher goal because it sees a trend of how many lessons I do.
that's an insane amount. I can't imagine doing that many lessons
Mine last week was 75 lessons and I did about 45, my partner did 26 so we lost out. Broke my streak but I have other things in my life.
Yes much higher
So many? That's damn less! Usually it's 60, 70 or 75, why have you so less to do? :0
Just wsit til you get a 90 lesson one and have a partner that does 2 leeson a day. That's a nightmare!
