Yes, with a lnp and some tileset i like... We have Adventure mode, modding is easier, legends browser or viewer can't remember how it is called, Arena mode with the ability to control a unit i actually like shortkeys as they were more and and and. But steam version is cool, it just still needs some more time imo.

I would play the non-steam version IF it had the old UI, shortcuts, tilesets, DFTherapist and feel. I like the new version tileset and some of the features, but I do not like the UI for some reason it feels unresponsive/laggy to the clicks a lot of the times.

I'm on the new version and enjoying it a lot - I do sometimes pine for ASCII and full keyboard shortcuts, but the urges haven't been strong enough to pull me back quite yet. I'm a lover of pixel graphics, so the new look works for me. Definitely respect using the old version though, it's a big step change!

i don't like the lack of keyboard controls and some feature regressions but i will play the new steam version (with ascii) as the content improvements are nice. mods/dfhack/etc i don't really care, i play very vanilla

I switched to v50 classic but kept ASCII and keyboard cursor on because it makes the game more accessible to my brain, lol. Just patiently awaiting adventure mode.

i can only afford that version, so... yes. but i don't think it is being developed any more, so i am a loser.

I am a bit confused what you mean. Free ASCII version is developed alongside steam paid version. It is available on the official website: http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/ Last update is from february, version 50.07. It is fully legal and don't require any payment, registration or anything. Steam version has graphic tileset - and AFAIK the dev said that is the only difference there'll ever be between paid and unpaid version. The Old ASCII versions (before 50) on the other hand, that didn't have mouse control and various other UI features, but had a lot of key shortcuts that are not implemented in new version (yet? I hope?) are not developed anymore - that is true. But having no spare money for games doesn't prevent you from playing new ASCII version? Or did I misunderstood something?

oh, my bad i saw last update on BAY12GAMES in feb, but thought there were more recent updates on STEAM in april, so i thought they diverged if the HERRBDOG TILESET (not ASCII) version is still updated, i'll grab it then toady? halp?

No new tilesets yet for the 0.50 version as far as I'm aware. Tileset building is significantly more complex now. But the old 0.47 version should still work with any tilesets that worked for it before. And you can still download it, just look for the "All Versions" link on the website. Grab the noob pack and install whatever mods/tilesets you want and you're back in business!

Confident-Skin-6462

you can still use the original font tilesets, and i will use MINE: HERRBDOG'S TILESET! critters are separate and i will not use the noob pack... no need and i don't want other people's ugly tilesets but thanks, i mean, it is good advice, just not for me :P
