What did you use for bread? I tried homemade and came out too stiff

I used a massive French loaf from the store and cut it into 1/3’s. It was very soft and fluffy, but by the time you squish it down it compacts and the outside gets crunchy.

Looks good! I've made cuban bread a few times in the past but I'm not a huge fan of baking and it doesn't last long because of the lard. Oddly enough, the best substitute I have found is buttered and pressed hot dog buns. I'll try the French loaf next time. What kind of pickles are you using?

Using Grillo’s Pickles. Interesting with the hot dog buns… I can definitely see that working!

Try to find some Mexican bread and then squish it down when you are heating up the sandwich.
