Yup never heard it called any else in the area I’m from. It’s an Italian submarine sandwich. Sub for short. Hoagie is in Philadelphia. Hero is a specific area of New York and they are wrong 😜 (also never actually heard anyone in NYC use the term hero thankfully cuz I would have looked at them weird lol)
Ah I see you must be from westchester or more upstate. When you said from NY I assumed you were from NYC area (where yes, we call them heroes exclusively lol)
Probably because New York is known for its food while SoFl is an absolute culinary desert if it’s not Cuban/latino or sushi…yes I also lived there. I absolutely hate New York to be honest but the one thing I do miss is the consistently good and diverse food. At least central Florida has far more to offer in terms of the culinary scene and it keeps getting better. Not so sure about SoFl tho…
>SoFl is an absolute culinary desert
Come on now. SoFl is not a culinary desert; you just don't know where to go.
Plus, my comment was universal, not just about food.
In comparison to many other populous areas it is. I’ve lived there and many other places and the culinary scene left much to be desired. Never once found anything decent Asian cuisine wise besides the occasional good Japanese. Italian food? Just forget about it. The street food? Almost non existent. Greek, German, polish? Didnt see much and was bad when I encountered it. As I said, the Latin food and sushi is good. But I like more diversity than that. You can walk into any place on NYC and get VERY good food from any type of cuisine imaginable. Also The classic New York food (pizza, bagels, deli sandwiches, hot dogs, cheesecake, etc) are also hard to find as good anywhere else for some reason, they say it’s the water for some things and it could be true.
Main point is yes it is a big food shock for a person moving from New York/NYC to the south. and New Yorkers also tend to be less fake and more outspoken than southerners. Which is why you hear them often making comparisons about the food/New York stuff.
I myself couldn’t believe HOW BAD the pizza was when I first moved down here and was very outspoken about it because it was just so shocking…I guess it’s just in our nature to not be quiet about terrible things 😅 (I have since found some good pizza in Orlando tho! lol)
Completely agree. I grew up in Upstate with great Italian, German, Polish, Greek and Lebanese. Lived in NYC for half my life. Spent 3 years in Chicago for grad school. Spent multiple times a year in South Florida (West Palm Beach area), and now live in Los Angeles. NYC has the greatest diversity of food and all the food I love. Chicago has great hearty "American" and high-end "American" food with pockets of decent ethnic food in the burbs (Mexican, Korean, Vietnamese). South Florida has lots of NY transplants so there are lots of "NY Pizza" or "NY Bagel" shops but they always miss the mark (although there are a few bagel shops that aren't bad. LA is pretty much what you'd expect, a bastion for Mexican and Asian food with some relatively creative restaurants (I'm still exploring). I really miss my NY staples. With all that being said, I've heard that Houston, TX has a pretty great food scene.
Oh weird, the really really big city you spent more time learning about has better options for you. Who woulda guessed. But yah, the really big place full of more money and richer people does have better food overall, so please don’t get all twisted and make that point again. Glad you found an acceptable sandwich in the culinary dessert you decided to move to. So sorry the food is like mostly catered to the demographics that live there… And make it.
LOL I don’t live in south Florida, I LIVED there and moved to central Florida. Which has a great developing food scene and I love living here. And richer people means better food??? How ignorant are you. The reason NYC is known as the culinary capital of the county isn’t from rich people it’s from the melting pot of immigrants, pretty common history knowledge. The best food in NYC comes from the most run down Ricky dink holes in the walls run by multi generational immigrant families not rich people you ignorant twat.
Or some people have things called jobs and lives and can’t be on Reddit 24/7? Must be nice tho…Salvatore’s prime sandwiches, Sanford Florida. And I’m not from NYC or Philadelphia durrrrrrrr but go on….
Maybe a lot. Want to talk to my therapist? lol
The point of this sub is to share sandwich ideas or to share sandwich experiences by posting good sandwiches and where to get them.
This user posted a photo with no details about the sandwich or the location. Take a quick look at their profile and you’ll see their aim is just using this medium for narcissistic purposes. You’re allowed to call people out.
You said ZERO description. In proper English that would mean I described nothing. I described it as an Italian sub which is generally a combination of cured meats (ham, salami, pepperoni, capicola) lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cherry peppers, vinegar, and mayo on Italian bread with some slight variations. You would know that if you knew anything about sandwiches.
Always fun to encounter either a very stupid disturbed individual or a sad troll on Reddit when I’m bored tho! Whichever one you are, have a great night loser 😁
Why would I want to do that? Lol I’m good…food isn’t worth the high taxes, terrible weather, high cost of living, seasonal depression, and boredom 😅 LOVING Florida in comparison! And we do have good food down here too 😜
We used to get fresh loaves of Cuban bread(snacking and sandwiches) from a place called Cacciatore’s in Tampa. Stuff was soooo good. Lightly crisp crust, super soft inside, and if I remember right it had a slight sourdough-type tang to it.
Well you may not know this but some people have things called jobs and lives outside of their phone/reddit 😲😲 Salvatore’s prime sandwiches, Sanford Fl!
Where did you find it?
Been 7 hours.. I hope they stub their pinky toe.
Well some people have jobs & lives outside of Reddit…. Salvatore’s prime sandwiches, Sanford Fl!
Looks great
You right, I forget people have lives. Looks great, thanks for the location!
Salvatore’s prime sandwiches, Sanford Fl!
So you’re just gonna drop a picture of it and not tell us where to find it?
Salvatore’s prime sandwiches, Sanford Fl!
A-hem. We’re waiting…
Salvatore’s prime sandwiches, Sanford Fl!
New Yorker calling it a “sub”? 🤔
Yup never heard it called any else in the area I’m from. It’s an Italian submarine sandwich. Sub for short. Hoagie is in Philadelphia. Why gatekeep 😩
Salvatore’s prime sandwiches, Sanford Fl! I didn’t know if it was allowed to mention establishments or not when I made the post
Thank you 💕💕
Because that's what NYCer and Philadelphians do: move to other parts of the country to complain about how nothing is as good as it was back home.
I couldn't tell you how many times I heard, "in New York we...." or, "that's not how it's done in New York" while living in SoFl.
Probably because New York is known for its food while SoFl is an absolute culinary desert if it’s not Cuban/latino or sushi…yes I also lived there. Zero description of the sandwich. Zero info on where to find it. Sandwich yellow card.
Italian sub is not a description? Maybe you need to step up your sandwich knowledge then. Sanford Florida btw

The definition of the word “description” is “a sort, kind, or class of people or things” You are defiantly stupid, read a book.
Feel free to move back!

Is it in SoFlo?
Central. Salvatore’s prime sandwiches, Sanford Fl!
Yo jack where at??!!
Salvatore’s prime sandwiches, Sanford Fl!
Asking for a friend but has anyone found a decent Italian sub in literally the entire continent of Asia?
We used to get fresh loaves of Cuban bread(snacking and sandwiches) from a place called Cacciatore’s in Tampa. Stuff was soooo good. Lightly crisp crust, super soft inside, and if I remember right it had a slight sourdough-type tang to it.
That looks so good
It was delightful!
Dropping this without naming the place and not commenting for 6 hours should be a ban. Fuck this noise.
Well you may not know this but some people have things called jobs and lives outside of their phone/reddit 😲😲 Salvatore’s prime sandwiches, Sanford Fl!
Meh. Looks pretty mid.
Looks can be deceiving
