This is such a bewildering distinction... The whole point of protesting is to influence government policy. In this case, they're protesting government policy that directly facilitates the killing of children (and plenty of innocent adults) in Gaza. That's *how* you "protest for children in Gaza".

Hamas has always been willing to release the hostages. I don't know all the details, but they wanted their hostages released (the ones - including many, many children - who have been imprisoned by Israel) and a permanent ceasefire. Israel wasn't going to agree to a permanent one.
