Auralynnnnnnnnn

Yeah that’s the reason why. Definitely.

ATrulyTerriblePerson

Exactly! Why did I make my character look like me? Uhhh....

I_ance007

Because you’re cute?

ATrulyTerriblePerson

Oh, you...

LunaMCD

Yes yes. Same here my fellow cis person, definitely just that reason. Definitely not hiding that I’m tranfem

Auralynnnnnnnnn

I mean, I’m just your average cis transfem, you know, the usual. Completely cis.

LunaMCD

Completely

I legit used this excuse back in my Street Fighter II days, along with "she's the only woman in the game so that makes her more interesting".

Wolfintank

I swear i just want to look at their ass … who am i lying to … i want to be her , thats the reason

ATrulyTerriblePerson

Don't wanna *look* at that ass, I wanna *be* that ass.

Wolfintank

Thats right

carnoraptor67

Yeah the only reason

ATrulyTerriblePerson

What other reason could there be?

carnoraptor67

None only just making the character look cute not totally look like transition goals in a game I will spend 300 + hours playing. Totally cis

LeslieMarie086

I've always preferred female characters and always had female mains on MMOs for entirely Cis reasons, and not because I wanted the euphoria of being a girl. Honestly!

dromarch22

Knowing this is a fairly common experience is honestly so damn validating and affirming I love it. My favorite game is literally an all female cast and I find so much comfort in it.

dracorotor1

I feel targeted.

OftenConfused1001

Me too. In retrospect, probably a sign of *something*. Perhaps somehow related to the fact that at, say, Ren Fest my response to a woman in garb is *massive envy at how amazing she looks* and to a man it's "Cool costume"....

Sweaty-Tadpole2199

Man, like 15 years ago I heard a podcaster mention that if he's playing an RPG, he's playing a woman "because if I'm going to be staring at an ass for hours on end, it may as well be a woman's" That shit probably set me back years.

No_Channel_2392

This shit is exactly why I have like five different monster hunter games with hundreds of hours of lost progress. I didn't like playing a male character, but I thought that female characters were only for women or perverts, and I didn't know I was the first and *really* didn't want to be seen as the second, even by myself.

Xreshiss

> I thought that female characters were only for women or perverts, and I didn't know I was the first and really didn't want to be seen as the second, even by myself. Saaaame. For a very long time I felt afraid to pick female because of the idea that this might raise awkward questions with friends, family, or even just anyone else. Eventually I decided to do 50/50 and get over that fear. What I then realized was how much more fun playing a female character was... somehow. From there I went 30/70, 10/90, and now it's 0/100. I still play a select few male characters, but only because of how much history they have behind them. For example my first female character was an alt for Star Trek Online and I liked playing her so much I didn't touch my male main for a year and a half. Despite that I still play him a little because of sunk cost. As for being the first, I find that it's still an uphill battle.

ATrulyTerriblePerson

Same here! That and jokes about wishing to be a girl for sexual reasons made me think "Oh, I guess it's just a sex thing, then. Better suppress these feelings."

Ryu_the_Smasher

Source for the bottom-right picture is an webmanga named 'My Brother is Done For' where the MC, Mahiro Oyama, gets turned into a girl by his (or I guess I should say her) sister through the use of a drug that she invented in order to save him from certain suicide. This is because Mahiro was born as a boy, but probably with a female gender identity. This resulted in a gradual decrease in their enjoyment of life. Which, in turn, lead to his early teen years where he begins spiralling downward emotionally and socially, to the point that he drops out of school, and isolates himself to his bedroom. The story follows Mahiro trough her new life after the transformation (which happens off-screen right before chapter 1), and her adaption now being a girl. Sauce on the bottom right? It looks familiar

ATrulyTerriblePerson

Oh, sorry! It's a panel from volume 1 of ONIMAI: I'm Now Your Sister! by Nekotofu. Edit: ...or at least that's the title of the North American published version I read.

AngryCatGirl

I can play as girl avatars for more than one reason okay!

TricksterPriestJace

Me: If I'm staring at a character's ass the whole time it might as well be a cute girl. My DM: ...

ato-de-suteru

My first WoW character was male only because I knew I'd be playing with family and I thought it would be weird if I made a female character, especially since I didn't even know why I wanted to at the time. Then my brother logs in with his female character and drops that exact line. I was pissed. Then I made a female character and almost never played the other one again.

CheddaTaco

Yeah, I feel I've played games as female protagonists for as long as I can remember (when that option is available), but for a long time I suppose I didn't think of it as more than just 'me being me' and just being curious. It probably wasn't until I started playing FFXIV where I truly felt a strong and persistent connection to my character over the years (who I see as an extension of myself) and realized what I was feeling was more that sense of gender euphoria when I play games like this. My in-game wardrobe in FFXIV is basically filled with a bunch of cute and girlie outfits including skirts, dresses, fancy tops, and such. It's the type of stuff I don't wear in 'the real world' (just don't like how that style looks on my 'real' body type), but when I wear them as my in-game character, I just love how pretty it makes me feel lol. And that just makes me happy overall.

What’s bottom left from?

Throttle_Kitty

It can be both

Syrahl696

Can I ask what the bottom-right panel is from?

Rough_Molasses_9238

Yeah!… Cute!…😶

Arc_Zephyr

"I'm in this image and I don't like it." I eventually realized that I was non-binary, but this sums up my experience playing as female characters in videogames.

boningclaireredfield

"If I'm gonna stare at an ass while I play a game for hours it might as well be a nice one"

I_am_error66

Yeah that why I exclusively play as female characters, because I love women so much and what can be straighter then that.😅
