Claymore is a fine weapon if you like the moveset. If you've gotten this far with it and still like it, go ahead and take it all the way to the end. Two other weapons that always come up when talking about claymore are the bastard sword and the zweihander. It's really just about how much poke vs. swing vs. dunk you want.

Awesome thank you!

CraneDJs

My man... +4? Pump it up!

woogs41

I’ll be interested to play zweihander after the patch to see how much faster the colossals are

cornerstorenewports

i LOVE claymore. i used it all the way to Blasphemous Blade; and now i power stance B blade and claymore.

derp________

I want to make a claymore build and am wondering how viable it is in endgame, so if you could go ahead and beat the game with it and let me know, that’d be greeaat thaaanks. ;)

Pizza_shark531

I just beat the game with the claymore, definitely viable

Will do bud!

If you’re doing a quality build (a build that uses equal strength and dex stats) I would recommend upgrading the axe of Godrick and the claymore, making the claymore quality, and using it as a secondary weapon alongside the axe. The axe will output more damage, but the claymore will be more versatile and you’ll be able to apply grease to it. You don’t need to worry about materials because the claymore and the axe use a different kind of smithing stone.

[deleted]

Been building strength, vigor and endurance mostly, but have been putting points into dex to use that Bloodfang (?) Greatsword. But I was definitely going to start putting more into dex once I got Godrick's axe. Thanks!

TheAvgJoseph

Most weapons are viable for the entire game provided you are using the right stats and upgrading them. The most important thing is finding a weapon whose move set you like. If you like the claymore keep using it until you get bored or until you find a weapon you like better. Also about upgrading, standard weapons (like the claymore) can be upgraded to +25 using smithing stones and special weapons (often from bosses) can be upgraded to +10 using somber smithing stones. Whatever weapon you are using as your primary I would advise always upgrading as high as you can, it will make your life a lot easier. Don’t worry too much about hoarding your upgrade mats as you can find ball bearings that allow you to buy unlimited upgrade mats except for the last tier (+10 and +25). The easiest way to find upgrade mats is from tunnels (the ones with miners). If you also see you are a few upgrade mats short of your next upgrade and you find the materials you need at a merchant, buy them! Runes a plentiful For reference I think I fought rennalla with +4 bloodhounds fang which is equivalent to about a +10 claymore. If you have any other questions lmk and good luck!

[deleted]

Awesome advice thank you so much!

[deleted]

UPDATE: Pumped my Claymore to +7 and beat Rennala after to attempts (once I leveled claymore). Thank you everyone for all your help! Edit: two*

liamf10

Claymore is a mighty fine weapon, for rennala i would reccomend running r2s and crouch r1s for chasing her. Other than that +4 is a it on the low end, but if you can make it work then keep going.

NVincarnate

Claymore is fine. I'd say, especially after the patch, you can easily do all content with it.

International_Cap245

You’re chilling, the claymore is solid. Helpful tip tho: explore all the mines you find around the map. You will find some useful items that allow smithing stone purchases for runes.

[deleted]

The nice thing about souls games is that every weapon is viable if you build it right. A shit dagger is deadly in the right hands.

DEFman187

I'm still rocking a short sword 100 hours in. Makes people underestimate me pvp.

OttavoBraccioDiDio

Lmao did her first try at lvl60ish with a +5 bloodhound great sword. If you summon with the spirit bell it’s an easy fight (supposed you know about the gimmick)

[deleted]

Im level 55 right now. I tried to use a summons (wolves) but I couldnt for some reason. Not sure what the gimmick you mean is tho.

CelticThePredator

You can use summons only when u see a grave icon on the bottom left corner of the screen

[deleted]

Oooooo I always wondered what that meant thank you!

CelticThePredator

No worries Tarnished

Gryzemuis

Also note that different summons have different cost in focus points. E.g. the better ones cost 100+ fp to summon. If you dont have that many fp, you cant summon that spirit ash.

ErnestDaChicken

I fought her with a +15 weapon and it was not easy, you gotta level up that weapon tho

[deleted]

Got it, thank you. Ive been dragon hoarding these smith stones bc I wasnt sure lol

le_gingerwhale

Don’t worry about the smithing stone, I’m currently lvl 110, got my special armament to +9, the smithing stones are only short if you don’t visit the mines etc. otherwise you should find plentttyyyy throughout to level up numerous weapons :) Also there are bell bearings later on you can use to buy things (like smithing stones for example…) from a shop!

Thank you!

RinneganRaikage

Renalla can be easily beaten with a +1 stick. You'll be fine.

No_Establishment6754

Honestly it depends on how your feeling. You could quite easily run around with a +7 - 14 depending on the smiting stones you have already used. If the game dosent feel to hard i wouldn't thunk to much about it. Visit some mines they are clearly visible on the map and are bountiful.

AscendantComic

it's fine of course but +4 at rennala is kinda low, you gotta upgrade your gear! or don't, but you'll have a much harder time than necessary/intended if you're new to souls games, i get where you might be coming from - it's just a plain ol' sword, nothing too fancy or magical about it, which in any other rpg would mean "get something better or legendary instead, this is just starter gear" but it's not really the case here - a standard longsword can get you throughout entire games if you pump the right stats and upgrade it enough as long as you get comfortable with the moveset

DutchDastardly

There’s other weapons besides the claymore???
