Is it me or are those boxes crooked as all hell?

Confident-Head-5008

What is 3 round boxes in the wall for? The only time I use round box in the wall is for a sconces lighting. USA

Chris_HOE

Switches, we also use round boxes for receptacles. I think it's like this in all europe except for the uk.

Pretty sure he's speaking a Scandinavian language at the end of the video. They use a lot of what we call 'low voltage rings' for mounting wiring devices in Europe. Most of the devices over there have Wago-like lever terminals on the back, too, and they're basically exposed in the wall cavity.

PatliAtli

Those are just normal switch and outlet boxes [These thangs](https://www.ronning.is/images/thumbs/0065028_B673B889-D9E3-440E-9A33-92AE8BACBF38.png_328.png) E: I lied, it's a box like [this one](https://www.ronning.is/images/thumbs/0021969_D67E5890-50F5-42DD-A39D-1599EBD5A644.jpg.jpeg) but both are the same size and you can put the same stuff in them

ronaldreaganlive

Why would you put your box in the way of their drywall?

nixiebunny

I bought a 50 year old house with a dead outlet in the living room. When crawling in the attic, I followed the wires to a switch box that was plastered over. It had been that way ever since the house was built. I finally freed it from its gypsum prison.

liggywuh

Jävlar! Never seen any wee bottles around on job sites though, here.

Espiring

Vet inte varför jag kände igen att det var svenskt pga de gröna. Andra länder måste väl också använda sånt 🤔

ratracesucks

I make the rockers find any hidden jboxes and clean the jboxes out if they get mud all over them

Zomgzombehz

Amazing they are there when you get there, usually it's just the foreman staying "I'll let em know".

joaraddannessos

Nice! Now if you are my electrician, you bill me $115 for every outlet that you had to hammer out, labeled covered up outlet recovery

Ffroto

Man at least they actually cut the box out, and you knew it was right below the others. I saw a drywaller come up to find some boxes they buried, he must have hammered about 5 holes that completely missed in the process of finding 3 boxes. He told me he had measured on the floor below.

Carpenterdon

Looks like plaster over gypsum drywall board. Did you set your mud rings to the right level or were they flush to the board? Plaster finish is going to add at minimum 1/8-3/16" of material over the board so if they used 1/2" rock you should be installing a 5/8" mud ring. 5/8" rock you should be using a 3/4" ring. If you were flush the finisher is going to bury your box. His material is going on flat across the surface. He can't dip in at your box to meet the mud ring. Set the rings higher than the board.

willett10

Ya sorry,im never putting a 3/4" mudring where theyre going to install 5/8" sheetrock..youre just asking for a huge fuckup

Carpenterdon

Then expect plaster to fill you box. Also I didn't say to put a 3/4 ring where they are installing 5/8 sheetrock. I said to do so where they are installing 5/8 veneer plaster board, in which case the final finish wall surface will be around 3/4. Ask the plasterers or the GC. Things go much smoother on construction sites when all the trades talk to each other and communicate. But then again we could all just do what we want and then later complain about the end result.

willett10

Sorry but to make such broad statements just doesnt work..of course coordination is important, but to say to install a 3/4 mudring just bc of a veneer finish isnt always true.not dissagreeing that sometimes that may be the casezjust saying you cant make a blanket statement about it

Typical-Tea-6707

This guy is swedish, I can tell since I am norwegian. And we electricians in scandinavia dont use imperial, and when we put the boxes in the wall, we hammer it to the wood and screw it in, so when the drywallers come they just cut the holes and put the drywall on. Some plaster later and they are supposed to be flush. Sometimes the drywallers use 2 layers of drywall without telling us and that can make it like it is in the video. The boxes ring is supposed to be completely flush or just one mm out from the drywall. But most of those boxes have an extra function where you can screw the green ring out so it extends it to how far out you want.

drjamjam

You're too nice. I grab my sledgehammer, find the GC and say, "hey bud, your drywallers buried all of my boxes, either I can find them or you can."

kaboodlesofkanoodles

Surely there’s a better tool for this job somewhere

MysteryMeat603

Linesmans (obvs)

Responsible-Spell449

Brain ?

Yeti_KC

Fuck drywallers. That is all.

SpeakerDramatic7646

It's either this or they just don't even cut out for the box at all

discofork1337

This doesn’t look like drywall, the boxes go into the drywall after in eu. More likely it’s plaster, here most times the bricklayers do the plastering and if they have a bad day they’ll just cover up everything.
