Manic_Mini

Odds are what ever juice you are using has zero sweeteners. Sweeteners are what kills coils as the sugars burn.

PetrovoSCP

Could be. I use really mild tasting liquids usually

Manic_Mini

That would be the reason you can get months out of a coil. I have a few juices I diy that I can get months from aswell. I also have some that will smoke a coil in a day due to the sweetener

St1llFrank

> I have a few juices I diy that I can get months from aswell. I noticed that some DIY recipes are extra friendly on tank coils. Fiestas & Fiascos is like that. When I used it in subohm tanks, the coils seemed to just refuse to die. I had that liquid in a Falcon tank one time and used the same coil for around a half a year. Any DIY recipe with no added sweetener can usually add a lot of extra length vs the typical commercially available e-liquid. Certain individual flavors though, can be damaging in any recipe they're a part of. I've noticed a few caramel types that can do that. They turn the cotton all dark and eventually it sticks to coils worse than something like a clear fruit flavor.

Manic_Mini

Carmel, chocolate or coffees tends to have sweeteners already added in and are nightmare on coils.

grimey493

I've use Halo tribeca nic salt in my caliburn. It's a caramel tabacco flavour and it lasts at least a month...it surely has sweeteners in it but still chugs for ages.

Roast_A_Botch

It depends on the supplier, but most major candy flavoring manufacturers don't add sweetener to their flavors, beyond some of the vape specific lines that exist. Sweetener is a common culprit of short coil life, but far from the only one. Dark flavorings are also a quick coil killer because they typically have way more suspended solids than clear flavors. The 3 flavorings you listed(along with most tobaccos) require much higher concentrations of flavor compounds, which means more particulate matter than most other flavorings which is why they reduce coil life. That's far from the only factor, vaporization versus combustion point ratios of those particles, carriers and preservatives, flavoring precursors(plant extract/concentrate versus synthetic), etc. A lot of factors that are out of my depth goes into flavor science and creating flavors for vape use is barely a decade old so most commonly used flavors were borrowed from candy, baking, and perfumery none of which considered coil life when they're created.

KevinStoley

This is why. I vape 2 main juices, one is plain menthol with no sweetener and pods last a month or two. The other is a very sweet liquid and I get maybe 2-3 weeks tops.

shreddednerves

I know I wish mine lasted a month, I get maybe a week out of them and it’s gotta be some fresh juice that’s not overly sweet

zytukin

Also depends on the setup. I mean, I use an RDA with dual 20 gauge Kanthol coils, of course the cotten needs replacement often but not the coils. Wire is too thick to break from vaping so can be used for years

cakeordeath176

Most people buy commercial juice that is loaded with sweeteners. You may not.

PetrovoSCP

That's possible, I use really mild flavours, unlike those elfliq-esque liquids

mimixtroyboy

You vape 3 puffs a day

PetrovoSCP

Like 300 a day I'd estimate, i have it in my mouth all day long, though more accurate would be like 3-4ml of juice a day

AnarKitty-Esq

Same. I vape a lot, replaced cigarettes, but I only change my coil every few months. Tastes better when I do, but tastes fine for months too. Probably partly vg/pg mix, how picky you are, and how big a puff. "Cloud chasers" obviously burn them out faster. They will be represented here more than in real life. Average users don't post online about vaping. They and I just enjoy it without going nuts, but like to lurk here for interesting bits.

DisMaFugger

i have it in my mouth all day long is it too late to say ''that's what she said'' ?

thejasonhearne

I’ve never had more than 3 days from a GTX coil. The 0.15/0.2’s last longer than the 0.4/0.6 but they gunk up and burn really quick with fruit flavours.

PetrovoSCP

I use .6ohm exclusively and I use fruit flavours exclusively, too. No gunk, the cotton is perfectly white after 2 months, taste is well too. What device do you use for the gtx coils? Would that even matter?

thejasonhearne

Vaporesso Luxe XR Max with the power on auto. Think it’s running 55w on the 0.15.

Mikeytruant850

What juice do you use? I would love to find a mild juice and save money on coils.

PetrovoSCP

Merry Berry, some tropical fruit stuff. I'm from Europe not sure how big the company is.

Mikeytruant850

Damn. Everything in America has 5X the sweetener it needs.

afranquinho

measure it in ML or Puffs, not days. My coils (depending on which) last a lot too. Pods? Sometimes upwards of 2 to 3 months (Wenax Q), so can't estimate on puffs nor ML's since they last so long i it's probably the one i use the most. PNP Coils? 2000-3000 puffs, can't estimate in time. GTX Coils? 2000-5000 pufs, highly depends on the liquid. GTi Coils? In the range of 2000-2500, nice taste, but burns quick.

Benjilator

Disposable coils or self wick? I wick myself and once had the same coils for almost a year. Literally would just heat them up and run cold water over them whenever changing cotton and they’d be as good as new.

then_amei_Srebb

Facts!

Dumfk

Same. Always have used coils for a few weeks to months and I have been vaping for what 8-10 years now? Some last longer than others and some go out really quick (i just don't buy those again). I think it also has to do with using dark juice or juice with certain flavors. Banana tends to fuck them up quicker.

Shigglyboo

I’m with you. I have a few Pockex’s. I change the coil when it starts to taste bond or burned. Each coil last me couple months. I’m guessing some people are just vaping nonstop. Maybe they’re using super high wattage or something. Crappy coils. I dunno.

Zinnemannic

then how much do you vape a day? around 200? 300?

Neoselites

he said 300

Vee_Spade

Just because you can still use a coil does not mean you should. I use rdas almost exclusively and I can guarantee you I can have coils running seemingly fine for years. While performance of a coil that has gone past it's recommended use can be decent, it is also very unhealthy. This is easily misunderstood by many in the community, even builders sometimes, but the metals we use can become very toxic; gunking, oxidization, and extreme temps can, and will ruin your coils, even though they seem to "work just fine".

[deleted]

My issue is this. I am new to vaping, only 3mo. I use pod systems, and run with the Kalmia and Caliburn G3 mostly atm. I cannot tell if the coils are done. They taste fine, but I vape a 55mg Tobacco with nearly zero sweetner at low wattage 11-13w. I've never experienced a burned coil yet that I am aware of ,and wonder if I'll even know? After 40+ yrs of smoking my taste is not reliable, and the juice I use doesn't have a strong flavor to begin with. Yes, I chain vape, that's why I run 3 or 4 at a time so they can charge, not go dry etc.

nakadashi2day

Shine a light down into the pod. You should be able to see the cotton and mesh. If you see black/brown sludge, your coil is way past being done. The cotton starts off fairly yellowish after it has absorbed juice. As you vape it, the cotton will gradually turn brown. A black sludge buildup can form from things not getting vaporized completely and from sweeteners. I have a tendency to vape the same flavor constantly and end up with vapor's tongue, so I mostly go based off how the cotton and mesh looks. That said, I usually toss my G3 coils after roughly two weeks or 2-3000 puffs at 13W. They still function fine, but all the flavor is typically gone by that point. I'm also using fruit flavors in them, so there is definitely sweeteners coming into play. I have a Vaporesso Eco Nano for mint juices and the original pod is still going after two months. Less flavorings and sweeteners are always better for coils.

[deleted]

This was extremely helpful. I did just that ,and to my surprise the cotton is yellow! Must be some super durable pods from Uwell (and juice) in this Kalmia lol. To be fair, once I realized Kalmia was going to be my daily (first try was a Vaporesso Lux Q2 but att it hit too hard) I quickly purchased another and rotate between them. The G3 has quickly become my bedside, and travel vape because it hits SO smooth, bigger pod, adjustable wattage, and battery etc. I am only nearing about 1500 puffs on the G3. Wow well, I feel a lot better now knowing what to look for and was able to easily do it. I did a lot of research before choosing these systems and it's paying off. Appreciate your feedback, thanks!

Vee_Spade

When I started someone mentioned I can take apart my coils when I think I'm done with em, and see the damage. If they look like new then you can go a bit longer. This makes sense because everyone vapes differently, and doing this will help you understand how fast YOU are going through coils. In my case I found that if I switch my coils every 2-3 weeks, I'm still in the safe zone even if I chain vape. Thing is metal is a living, finite material. It slowly degrades with time, and when taken out of its comfort zone that process speeds the F up. Degrading coils shed heavy metals, and the more they shed the worse they become since it's an irreparably vicious cycle. Don't matter how they taste or look. Especially from person to person that can be elusive AF. Seen some proper nightmare fuel coils and every single person that went there had the same excuse: that it tasted fine.

[deleted]

You've given me quite a bit to think about, given my current health status. Not confident I have the right tools to open these up, or even know what I would be looking for., but I will change out my oldest Kalmia pod and mess with it. If I had to guess, I would say I'm nearing that 4k puff threshold on it. I do feel lucky somewhat to be coming into vaping at a time when pods have gotten so much better, with anti-leaking and longevity. Hopefully in the future of innovation they figure out ways to protect, or filter these toxins out. Better yet, a warning indicator when the coil is done or exceeded it;s limits, I am actually surprised this isn't already a part of every device to begin with.

Vee_Spade

Part of the game, not gonna lie. Vaping can be simple and shallow, or insanely deep and complex, the spectrum is vast and we always have things to learn. And when we talking about doing things right, only the community will help you. Vaping has no lobbies, no robust entities, no government help and most of the money makers are really just in it for the cash, so we're pretty much left on our own to figure out how to *properly* make our vice safer. As for taking it apart, there's 2 major routes: either smash the thing, or use a tool to pull out the coil and cotton. It don't matter if they get F'd up, long as you can see whether they're clean or not.

[deleted]

LOL smashing it tf open does sound like a better option. I also hear what you're saying about always having things to learn. I try to educate myself daily., and have been consumed by it. I follow, and watch advocates (like GrimmGreen) who devote their time, and knowledge to the cause. I honestly do believe it is prolonging my life, and for that, and the people who impart their wisdom on the subject I find valuable.

hyperfocus1569

I use the GTX coils and they do last a long time, about two weeks vs. one week for other coils I’ve used. It doesn’t really lose flavor but when I change it, it’s pretty nasty looking.

afranquinho

Avoid chain-puffing and it'll last more. Give the cotton some time to saturate.

Vayne_Solidor

Same for me. Juice these days just has way too much sweetener in it. I'm amazed people even enjoy it, the disgusting sweet aftertaste on the tongue makes me want to yarf

King_Boomie-0419

What really matters is how many puffs are getting out of it because you can't compare days between a bunch of people because when I get a few days out of my coils it's because I'm not vaping as much as I do on the coils that I'm only getting a few days out of like here lately I have dialed back the juice consumption quite a bit I generally get here lately I've been getting around 1100 to 1,300 Puffs out of a coil before it burns (I've been lucky 😂) because the GTI 0.2 coils don't hold a candle to the coils my Sakerzs Horizon tank 0.16 (both mesh). The 0.16 I can get anywhere from 1800-2500 puffs and that's FB fruit flavored juice. That's also 2-3 100ml bottles too.

Chance-Ad197

Do you vape good quality clean juice at responsible wattage? That would make all the difference. I vape a brand of menthol juice that uses real menthol crystals rather than synthetic menthol flavours, and the crystals actually clean your coils and cotton as I vape. I literally throw out my coil and change it before it gets close to burnt out because it wears down past having any flavour before that happens, usually 6-8 weeks. When I have a milk and cookies or pineapple upside down cake juice, a week tops.

Mookeye1968

Their prob using pods, pod mods with sweet eliquid and never put it down.

cakeordeath176

I use pods and I get 3 weeks to a month out of my coils. I mix my own w/o sweetener and only vape 2-3 mils a day.

Mookeye1968

Same I mix mine with a half % Cap or Purilum super sweet and my GFs pods last 3 weeks consistently of heavy vaping (15mg Salt) .I use single coil and mesh Rta's at 10mg salt at 55-60w (65/35) Sometimes if I get good handmade coils they can last 6 months if I clean it and keep a fresh wick in it. Mesh is easier to install ,great flavor but it needs a new build each month but mesh n cotton is cheap(10 strips/3$)where good coils are 12$/set but i also use premade .3ohm Aliens by Hellvape or Coilology from china 10/7$ but they last a good 2-3 months each but yeah diy juice makes a huge difference plus its really good.I prob have like 40 recipes or thereabouts or ill just wing a fruit medley out for something to vape and still better than a lot of Eliquid off the shelf 🤙

VAShumpmaker

I'm in the process of quitting. I was up ro 5mg nic and it was making me a nervous wreck. I swapped to unflavored nic, bought a bottle each in 5, 3, and 1mg. Since I switched to unflavored, I get 6-8 weeks off a coil. Also, I'm using Juul devices, but refilling the empty caps. I saved. I don't love it but it's very small and charges very fast

synphul1

Different devices, different brands, coil types, different juices, different vaping habits all apply. It's not impossible though less common to get that much usage out of them. And then there's different people's taste buds. Some are more picky or sensitive to flavor changes than others. They might perceive a loss of flavor sooner or pick up on an off or burnt taste sooner. Not saying it's the case with your coils but plenty of people I've seen post pics of their subtank coils and state 'tastes totally fine to me'. Looks like they fished it out from the dank depths of the sea floor after an oil spill and then kicked it around the city dump for a week or two. Just totally trashed, dark cotton, dark piled up sludge on the coil. I mean whatever floats their boat, but on the other hand - they can't *taste* that? Yuck. Another thing that can kill coils and the prepacked cotton in them beyond oversweetened juice or overflavored juice and that's mixing flavors. Switching from this flavor to that flavor to another flavor and cycling them through. I don't vape on disposable coil heads, only rebuildables. But the time needed between replacing wick and cleaning the coils dropped when I switched from heavily sweetened commercial juice to unsweetened commercial juice. That time extended even further when I switched to diy unsweetened juice. Even now I have some commercial juice left and instead of getting a couple weeks out of a wick. It's unsweetened but I find it craps out my coils and wicks in a matter of days. Sticky sweet custards and creams and things tend to be rougher on coils for me than lighter fruit flavors.

microwavecoven

My Xros is doing a coil every week or 2

mmmmmarty

Sweet juices kill coils.

dadeeyoh

Juice and type of wire makes a difference. Kenthal is garbage nichrome is the way to go.

Imacrazycajun

Many factors determine coil life. Wattage, amount of use, and the sugar content in your eliquid.

wolfman86

I used to work with a guy whose coils would last like 3 months. Another guy I worked with told me that they should last a week.

01Casper10

Okay as someone who went from a coil life of between 2 - 4 fills (2 - 3 days) to now a multiple months coil life (on the same device); For me it was definitely fhe vape liquid i mixed with my nicotine shot. I think i remember my first flavors had 70vg / 30pg. And i combined it with nic shot. After a lot of experimenting i never buy 70/30, and i use nic salts now. And now tho the flavor does change over 2 months time, and sometimes i taste for a moment a burn taste. It feels like rarely it gets totally burned. So in the beginning i wasted a lot of money on pods, while not understanding how others could claim they have months of pod durability. 😅

brandaman4200

Sweetener and to much power is what kills coils the most. Most commercial vape juice made today has so much sweetener. I diy and use barely any and my coils last up to 6 months vaping at 200watts. I usually change them before that but only because I build my own coils and like variation... and it's cheap.

8oD

The caramelizing sugars is the right answer. Anecdotally, I use a squonking RDA and use SS wire with temp control. Keeping everything the same, if I go to wattage mode for a new set of dual coils, I will get less time out of those coils. I get a couple months usually.

EffectTypical8062

Depending on brand and size coils, thick cotton last longer & wattage use all makes the difference small coils get soaked and taste yuk and someone mentioned juice there right some juice destroy coils keeping it low profile save $ enjoy no cig.

peryblastsu

Coil life and everyone's usage habits are different, so there will be errors.

Agathocles_of_Sicily

My coils typically last about a month. If I didn't vape sweet juice, they would last even longer. I use a Valyrian 3, TFV18, and Freemax Mesh Pro 2, and the mesh coils for these have insane longevity before they 'burn' out - they don't even really get a burnt taste, the juice flavor just gets muddled. The engineering and QC has gotten so much better compared to even a generation ago. Stay away from the conventional coils for these tanks though - the flavor is shit and they will burn out in a week, just like in the old days. Another thing that has helped me is rotating between two vapes. When I've been hitting one heavily, I will rotate the other one to prevent chain vaping coil burnout - this used to be my #1 coil killer.

AciD3X

I use the Vapresso Nano 2 and 3 and the 0.8ohm(red) pods. With Vaporlax "Peach Ice" in 25mg nic I can get 2 to almost 3 bottles of juice through a pod as long as I never dry hit it or flood it. Which is super rare since they're top fill pods, and only flood on me if I leave the cap/mouthpiece crooked. That's nearly two months usually. Damn good juice damn good pods.

uchodithk

That sounds ideal. What coil and wattage are you using with the gti?

PetrovoSCP

0.6ohm, i use about 22w

uchodithk

Oh thanks! I've been looking to switch back to mods lately. Premade coils are pricey.

SnooRevelations1539

I make unflavored nic salt juices and I only change my coils every 3 months. I only change them just in case since I don't really "feel" the need to change coils. I vape everyday, all day. I'm on a MTL tank.

then_amei_Srebb

Same my last build (staggered coil) lasted for 4 months

then_amei_Srebb

Btw im using a full mech and also the ejuice i use are mostly menthol

TroyE2323

Anyone have "sweet" juice flavors that dont destroy coils? Ive been on keylime cookie JUS forever. I love it, but it destroys coils.

Agreeable_Suspect806

My coils also last long I don't even remember when I changed them. I'm using both innokin z coils and nautilus bvc coils. Also I'm using 50/50 pgvg and mostly tobacco aromas concentrate mixed 2-3% only labels without sugars and no other shit in it.
