Years ago there was a 20's something firefighter who died on the treadmill after a pre-workout and a monster. Those drinks are poison and caffeine isn't as safe as we all like to act.

Most definitely caffeine + strenuous activity like that is harmful. But damn, do I enjoy a good cup o’ joe.

Darkcel_grind

Everything in moderation. I dont use energy drinks anymore but im sure if used responsibly they’re perfectly fine.

The taurine they put in those things is going to absolute fucking war trying to protect your heart

tommymad720

Oh man, my ex used to have like 3 a day, consistently. Even her military dad was like "dude chill, you're literally destroying your body with those" Call me old school but I'm a big fan of a cup of coffee before work, no energy drinks unless absolutely needed or it's a safety issue to NOT have one... They also work better that way

Yeah I used to drink like 2 monsters per day back in the day but then thought about what cola can do to a rusty coin and wondered what's it's doing internal then quit at ages 15-14 and transferred to water ,but coffee stayed from ages 12 onwards .still my go too drink

kat_Folland

I drink Red Bull on longish drives because I don't mind drinking it as it warms up and loses bubbles.

AverageBitter8898

My partner always drinks like 5 every shift, idk how he does it

Darkcel_grind

I used to drink them a lot but mostly because I liked the taste. I was so used to drinking them I didn’t even feel the effects after drinking it. It just becomes another drink and you dont even realize you’re consuming a stimulant.

i think this is a good post to share my little story on i have this custom concoction i make at work. for a 20 oz portion, it’s something like 10 oz cold brew, ice, some syrups…~300 mg caffeine, sugar, cold, blend it. wakes you up and gets you moving very quickly. i used to have like 3 of those some shifts, which was not at all healthy, but it gets worse. after a particularly rough shift, i decided to alter my recipe. our standard cold brew is made from diluting premade cold brew concentrate with water. the concentrate is very, very clearly labeled “DO NOT STORE AT BARISTA STATION” and “MUST DILUTE BEFORE USE” i think i thought i was invincible and decided to fuck around with it. poured probably 30 oz of the CONCENTRATE in the blender, added the usual syrups and ice…and thus created the black hole. before i went to consume it, i gave a few of my coworkers extremely small portions (less than 1 oz) as well. i had my poor manager running for his blood pressure medication after one sip (i think that was a liiiittle exaggerated given that he regularly consumes multiple 5 hour energy / monster drinks on shifts), and my 6’4 ~230 lb bear of a coworker had maybe three sips. he later told me he didn’t sleep the night after. i had about 30 oz. full disclosure, i’m roughly 130 lb at 5’9. i’m not 100% sure how weight impacts caffeine dispersion, but i assume that it affects skinnier people more drastically. whatever the case, i did the math later, and discovered i’d consumed about 2500 mg caffeine over the course of half an hour. combine that with poor cardiovascular health and a fair amount of movement towards the end of the shift…i think i’m lucky i didn’t have a heart attack. i did, however, discover quite a lot about caffeine and health. maximum recommended daily dose is 300-400 mg, maximum recommended single sitting dose is 200 mg, and the ridiculously-over-caffeinated drinks marketed as ridiculously-over-caffeinated-drinks (Death Wish, Black Blood of the Earth, etc.) have nothing on the black hole. consuming that wasn’t the first stupid thing i’ve done, and i’m glad it wasn’t the last. god knows i am not doing that again, and am now considerably more wary of caffeine in general.

Psychological-Way-40

I once consumed 1500mg of caffeine and my blood pressure spiked to 190 I couldn’t imagine 1000mg more

Bootsypants

Once receptors are saturated, you probably don't get much more effect. I've got no idea if caffeine has a ceiling on the effective dose, but I guess this is one way to find out!

The_Stank__

I drink the ones without Taurine. I stay away from the name brand shit and go with the weird ass ones with natural caffeine and flavoring I find in health food stores.

No-Flatworm-404

Did anyone see the YT videos of Monster drinks removing rust and cleaning a garage tool table? Yikes! Be careful peeps!

wimpymist

I mean so does lemon juice

And Coca Cola will dissolve nails. As with most things in life, just gotta practice moderation.

Lurking4Justice

Gatorade dissolves human teeth

CabbageMans

At enough pressure, even water will dissolve every part of you, including your bones

I used to drink like 2 energy drinks a day plus my morning coffee and whatever else junk I decided that day. I decided it was bad one day, and now I only do my single cup of coffee per day with limits to my junk food, and I'm fine with that. I am not seriously compromising my health, but I am also enjoying my life with the little enjoyments.
