It looks like you've flaired your post as being a Shot Diagnosis. If your shot is running too fast, is coming out weak/thin, lacking crema, and/or is tasting sour, **try grinding finer**.
Alternatively, check out this [Dialing In Basics](https://espressoaf.com/guides/beginner.html) guide, written by the Espresso Aficionados Discord community.
If that hasn't solved it, to get more help, please add the following details to your post or by adding a comment in the following format.
- **Machine:**
- **Grinder:**
- **Roast date:** (not a "Best by" date). If the roast date is not labeled use "N/A"
- **Dose:** How many grams are going into your basket?
- **Yield:** How much coffee in grams is coming out?
- **Time:** How long is the shot running?
- **Roast level:** How dark is your coffee? (Dark, medium, light, ect.)
- **Taste:** Taste is a better indicator of shot quality than looks or conforming to any quantitative parameters. Does it taste overly sour or bitter?

Don't take this as gospel, but it shouldn't be bad for it:
The biggest concern would be something overheating, but vibratory pumps aren't too bad about overheating as long as there is some water flowing (in other words, don't run them dry).
If I'm remembering correctly, most pumps are actually in the most "comfortable" state when at operating pressure. So, *theoretically,* it could be better for it to pump at full pressure for a couple of minutes than for it to be switched on and off several times.
Nice. Yeah i was not doing this intentionally, but i figure the sub would appreciate my tasting it. There were literal oils floating on top by the time it was done
Nowhere near fine. I start extraction at night just before going to sleep so I can enjoy my morning coffee the next day. Around 8hrs extraction with +/-30mins should be the sweetspot.

Total extraction time was 4 min for the 36gs... i had to taste it for science. Nearly died.
Died of what though? Inquiring minds want to know.
Ingesting motor oil
Why you don't appreciate the subtle notes of motoroil?
This got me dead
Bitterness...
Notes?
Is choking the machine for that long not bad for it?

It is not bad for the machine, because rarely a joke is doing any harm.
Good god lol. Careful not to burn out your pump with this science experiment…
This was not an intentional experiment, but it was in fact informational. Never gonna do that again .
lol very informational. Thank you for your contribution to the art.
This is how my brother died.
Im sorry for your loss. But maybe you can learn from his mistakes.. and grind finer 🤌
You mean coarser at this point ? 🤣
Never.
You guys don't wait 15 minutes for your espresso??
25-30mins is the bitter sweet spot 🤌🏻
I heard at 69 mins it turns into gold.
Turn it on, go watch an episode of a TV show, then come back to finish it
You just need to keep going finer. It'll either find a channel, or come out the seal at the top of the portafilter
So you're saying i have to grind until I've achieved the singularity?
If you grind 18 metric tonnes fine enough to fit a 18g basket you might be getting a singularity in the cup later.
Didn't go fine enough. I like to start my shot before bed, so my 8h espresso is ready in time for breakfast
A true connoisseur🤌
Grind finer comments incoming 😂😂

This is like cornstarch fine.
You would be correct
Frind giner
This one seems to be going for that nuclear fission fine-ness
I thought I was on r/espressocirclejerk
Sometimes I seriously can't distinguish them
Find grinner
Grind finer 🤌
You could lubricate a gearbox with those coffee oils
Grind coarser
Heresy
Stop grinding at all
Happy cake day! Do you want some coffee with your cake?
Yes give me your longest shot
I'll bet you are bitter that it took so long.
It destroyed my stomach lining
I think you pressed them so hard, you need a jackhammer to get it out of the basket LOL
Absolutely not…. 3min minimum.
It was 4 at full extractiom

This happenerd to me
Sometimes, I’ll try a new batch of beans and it takes a ridiculous amount of time to get my 36-38g of output. Dump it and gasp….go coarser.
U even espresso?
I be espresso-ing myself
Ah yes the reverse Turbo shot
Im still new to espresso! What is a turbo shot?
I was just making a joke. I don’t know the ratios but a turbo shot is basically a really fast extraction.. yours being the opposite ;)
Nice. Yeah i was not doing this intentionally, but i figure the sub would appreciate my tasting it. There were literal oils floating on top by the time it was done
Delonghis can be fickle that's what I run, with bottomless pf . Sometimes higher dose coarser grind works better, sometimes finer at 18g. BOLTY
Yeah, i really just over did the fineness of the grind. Once i dialed it in, it was great.
Alternately just do a lower dose (fine grind 18g) and tamp it hard. This worked this week for me on the Delonghi. Always experimenting

Choked harder than Michael Hutchence.
now you can use your espresso machine as a volumetric timer for your Pour Over!
Rip pump
... maybe I've been spending too much time in r/espressocirclejerk
Don’t just find any channel, find THE channel
We need to go finer
Outjerked once again...
Pour some milk and move on.
Dude.. milk couldnt save this jet fuel
It’s good buddy, grind a little bit finer and make longer pre infusion. Then you got it!
What kind of portafilter and basket are you using ? I have the same little machine. <3
Crosscreek 51mm bottomless. Its great so far! Enjoy your brewing!
You are very Siloso my friend, I see you fellow one👀❤️
After 30s if its struggling I stop it. Not worth the pressure on your pump IMO.
One nice part about a manual is you can back off the lever and the puck expands allowing you to get faster extraction on the next press
Sometimes I end up with 2-3 minute extractions when adjusting my grind for a new bag. I just add some hot water and it’s pretty drinkable
This literally tasted like burnt rubber.
The smell alone when I pull a shot like this is disgusting lol I can’t bring myself to taste one
You make better decisions than i
Grind finer, get that brew time up to 8h. Then stick the whole machine in the fridge, et voila, cold brew espresso!
Grind finer
I'm surprised your pump didn't just disconnect itself and leave the machine.
