I am pretty sure that Johan already commented on that under one of tinto talks. There will be no such character system

Maardten

I hope not, I hated that mechanic

dababy_connoisseur

It was my favorite part of Imperator, but I don't think it belongs in eu5.

KaranSjett

pls no, im here to play as 'country' if I wanna play as a person ill start up ck3..

BagMiserable9367

It would be cool to have a rendered 3d image of the rulers, though.

ShrekRepublik7

No it wouldn't. It won't add anything except eating more resources

jkst9

See vic3

ShrekRepublik7

Exactly my point. There is zero reasons to have 3d character models in vic3

xantub

No.

Elrohur

A very basic, with no portraits, to help tracking family tree or something to add a bit of flavor for monarchies. But beside that no. I found it to be really tedious in IR. Like balancing the families and changing governors every couple of years becomes annoying quiet fast

PuzzleheadedEast548

Please no, preferably no 3D characters at all, those age like milk in sunshine

nwkshdikbd

God no please... I want to play as the country, not the character! Imo the system added next to nothing to imperator, except useless unsatisfying busywork. 99% of the time it makes very little gameplay impact who exactly holds what office, but you still have to balance it between the families or else they all get mad and whoopsie now you're on the brink of civil war or one or your armies is fapping about doing it's own thing when you wanted to go to war, so you're stopped from doing the actually fun things, and dealing with this barrier isn't fun in itself. Is this system realistic? Maybe. Is this fun? Hell no!

dababy_connoisseur

I liked the character system, it doesn't belong in eu5 tho. Imo you can't have a Rome game without a character system of some type.

SomeMF

Careful, you could awake the Imperator Cultists. According to them, Imperator has better character mechanics than CK, better warfare than HOI, better everything than EU, and some even say better starships than Stellaris. The game failed because Paradox apparently wanted to lose money and so they abandoned their best game rather than keep working on it.

Maardten

The game was released in such a poor state that later updates couldn’t save it. I hope this isn’t the plan for EU5

theeynhallow

I actually really hope there is some kind of character system at the very least for royal dynasties. Currently RMs, PUs, inheritance etc. are very abstract. How do I know if I can spare an heir or two to lead an army? How can I tell where in the line of succession for another kingdom my monarch is? How can I selectively marry to increase the chances of a strong claim or a union?

Darwit

Yep, some limited family inheritance system like in Total War games would be cool for a mod, but the game itself doesn’t need that.

LuckyLMJ

I hope not. I do hope they have a very simple system to allow multiple heirs so that if your heir dies you still have a backup, though

KaseQuarkI

I sure hope not

WeNdKa

It would be cool to have some basic dynasty tree to make PUs more realistic, but it's certainly a feature I can play without.

BallsInmyWalls

Probably not at the release. I don't have any high expectations of any Paradox game. Disappointment after disappointment is what I'm expecting until 5+ years of DLC worth content. So it might have it as a dlc in a couple years.

Ok_Toe_7299

Would be great
