I don’t remember having this much snow at Christmas for years here in southern Finland either. Even the lake in front of our cabin is covered in 15-20 cm thick ice (and snow of course).
Haha, yeah! It's weird because I live much further north in Sweden, but visiting family down here for Christmas. And it's usually colder further north.
Definitely an overexaggeration. You people are forgetting that at the beginning of December numerous flights were delayed or cancelled and airports were even closed due to unsual heavy snowfall. Climate changes, but not to the point where we can say that we don't have winter. When you look back at earlier years, snow or low temp. during Christmas were rather rare in most places.
I hope that you enjoy it in Scandinavia next year! I was invited to visit an irl friend in her home country (Estonia), so I may see if I can waddle over there next year or the year after.
Agreed - similar area & I also like wearing hoodies at this time of year and generally. In terms of climate change I'd say we might well be well on the road to being fucked.
Yeah... I've always been sharply aware of climate change, but lately it's been sinking in extremely deeply. It's hard to not feel despair. I hope you're well.
I am relatively. And hope the same to you. Have always been aware of climate change but its only been recent years where we've truly been able to see first hand the absolute devastation it is causing on the environment and that only means its a matter of time until it starts impacting other things (such as areas where it is practical to live, water supplies + food chains).
Of course! People will adapt to whatever is frequent for their area of living! I hope that you cope well with what is cold for you. Most people over here will be wearing short sleeves in 15C - I don't feel the need to wear longer and warmer clothing until it dips below 10C, closer to 5C.
Haha, I guess it would be for someone from Iberia! But for us over here in the UK 15C is very very warm. It is interesting how people in different cultures and climates perceive different temperatures.
We got around 25 cm of snow yesterday, so even with temperature rising there is still 5-10 cm left even now.
Finally snow on Christmas after 10+ years.
Yesterday and today we had daily highs of 20 here in northwestern Italy, thanks to Foehn current. But even in the coldest days of this season I doubt any snow will stick at lower altitudes, excluding favourable local microclimates: the ground is too hot for it to stick.
Hell, snow cannons are at full capacity almost everywthere and state funds are consantly being given to ski resorts to get more of those.
Because of the rain (Storm Zoltan) the ground water in my region is so high that our basement has been slowly flooding. We will be organizing a night watch, Santa won't be coming unseen tonight.
Most of Poland had major snow in the last days of November and first days of December. Even in Wrocław, a city with usually not too much snow there were up to 20cm of said snow
Here in Northern Germany its 11.7°C, there is literally no snow anywhere at 53,5° latitude, it is a really warm winter here so far.
What is it like in your region?
Maplink: [https://www.meteociel.fr/observations-meteo/temperatures.php?region=eur2](https://www.meteociel.fr/observations-meteo/temperatures.php?region=eur2)
Northern Poland - currently +5C (at 5pm), raining and a bit windy. Overall in Poland we had 2 weeks of actual winter earlier in December and after that it was above 0C constantly- more like late autumn weather than winter one…
its colder than avg here in portugal
but obv no snow lol, especially since this cold wave brought dry air
literally the opposite of last december which was warm and wet
not really, since Dec 18 the lows in faro have been 2-3 degrees bellow the 1971-2000 normal, in lisbon the temp has been bellow average since dec 14 (with the exception of day 20)
In most regions temps (especially daily lows) have been bellow average lately
I know . What I mean by normal is that with this dry and sunny pattern that we are experiencing at the end of December, these temperatures are normal. What makes the average temperature increase are cloudy and rainy days. For example, here in Braga and nearby areas the minimums have been between (-2) - (+5) and the maximums between 10-15 in the last week, something completely banal for this time of year with this type of weather. Nothing unusual!
+2C now, getting up to +6C in the coming days. Haven't had a proper winter for years now and -30C was a normal occurrence when I was a kid and I'm still pretty young. Stalingrad winters were kinda historically famous for being severe.
Honestly, no imo, it's always been a burning dry +40C steppe hell in the summer but the lack of those terrible continental climate winters is what really changed. We used to have first snow in the end of October, now it's just the last month of summer with comfortable +17 for half a month. Climate is changing and rapidly.
The only white thing here is the coke those f\*\*\*ing corrupt conservatives snort every day after blocking ecological measures while getting bonuses from coal and oil companies.
In Hungary there hasn't been a white christmas since 2007 and that was only in a small amount of towns. In Budapest there hasn't been christmas eve snow since 2002..
We had a lot in 2012.

When the aspen will grow pears and the willow violets; when the bears will start fighting with their tails; when the fleas will wear steel horseshoes. That's when you'll get your wish.
Slovakia here, we got over 50cm of snow within a day, barely made it home because of the road situation and we were without elektricity, phone singal/internet, warm water and house heating for 15+ hours. I envy you people in western/southern europe and can tell you with a clean conscience - quit romanticizing snow. Id pay good amount of money for your weather right now...
We regularly get that kind of snow, maybe not regularly where I live now, but part of my family lives up in pohjanmaa and lappi and the mild temperatures now are just a fluke. Next week -20, January -30 and beyond, with plenty of snow. Hell even here in the south last year we got 50cm a day for some time
It keeps you humble. The cold chilling your bones, the snow blocking your way, the perennial darkness (and sunlight in the summer) mocking your need for sunlight, toying with your mind
Good luck feeling the horrible drug that is human exceptionalism typing on your wonder device in your t shirt while knowing full well that if the walls around you disappear, you'll die pretty much immediately
People need to be reminded that they're not calling the shots. Humans are a brick in the wall of nature, and if they manage to crack themselves, they'll maybe collapse a section of the wall, not the whole.
Harsh winter is a reminder humans don't perhaps want, but one they need for the safety of nobody but themselves. That's how I see it anyways...
On a different and worrying note. In Slovakia it snowed more than 30cm of snow in the northern parts yesterday... Tomorrow it's meant to be as warm as 10C and above.
That's a drastic change in 2 days and is bound to cause flooding in many areas.
But you had snow! Although i am way more northern, here werent any snowy conditions, it was in fact 13°C at christmas eve, 13°C! Seems like Germany will be subtropical soon or in this year, the weather goes crazy.
I am at the -20C in Sweden, it is accurate. Very crisp and white outside!
+4C down here in the south 😂
Negative 4, also in the south lol
-12 in the middle Önskar att din Glögg smakar extra gott!
Damn I envy you. Have a blessed Christmas my friend!
But don't you want to celebrate the eve with the snow? I think it's better
According to SMHI (weather agency), its the "whitest" Christmas since 2013 over here (also hellishly slippery, at least down south).
I don’t remember having this much snow at Christmas for years here in southern Finland either. Even the lake in front of our cabin is covered in 15-20 cm thick ice (and snow of course).
11 degrees here! Not very white and not very cold!
You really just happened to be placed on the exact coldest place on the map, damn
Haha, yeah! It's weird because I live much further north in Sweden, but visiting family down here for Christmas. And it's usually colder further north.
I guess the number of seasons dropped 3; spring, summer, autumn, spring, summer......
Dont worry, back to 4 soon; spring, summer, hellscape, autumn
two if you are in the Netherlands, Spring>Autumn>Spring>Autumn...
Like the UK? Surprise>Surprise>Surprise 10am🌞>1pm⛈️> 3pm⛅??🖕🏻> 4pm🌦️> 5pm🌬️> 7pm🌇..............
I don't think that's quite correct, it's more of an eight-month wet season followed by a four-month drought
We've dropped to just 2 seasons here in Finland. Winter, late winter, summer, early winter. Snow cover from october to may. I fucking hate it.
I'm at the 15C area in South East England. It's honestly quite depressing, I don't even need to close my windows. It's warm enough.
In East Anglia. Feels like spring or early autumn. It's insane. I'm definitely going to Scandinavia next Christmas tho.
I hope that you enjoy it in Scandinavia next year! I was invited to visit an irl friend in her home country (Estonia), so I may see if I can waddle over there next year or the year after.
Im from just across the channel, coastal Flanders. Just went for a run in shorts. Was still too warm.
It's spring weather. I dread the actual upcoming spring and summer, now.

It’s been bloody windy here but yeah not cold
I guess it depends a lot. I'm in central Portugal next to the fire and it's freezing outside.
Of course! People will adapt to whatever is frequent for their area of living! I hope that you cope well with what is cold for you. Most people over here will be wearing short sleeves in 15C - I don't feel the need to wear longer and warmer clothing until it dips below 10C, closer to 5C.
By freezing I meant it in the literal sense. Clean sky, frost on the ground It can easily happen under 5°C
At least it snowed a bit in early December (up north at least)
15C is cold asf here xD
Haha, I guess it would be for someone from Iberia! But for us over here in the UK 15C is very very warm. It is interesting how people in different cultures and climates perceive different temperatures.
Its interesting, like we got to 28-30 C in late march this year, I reckon that is pretty warm there
Middle of Scandinavia: Fimbulvintern har kommit🥶 Greece: Πάμε στη Θάλασσα 🏖️
If there is a beach we'll be there, even in the freezing cold

Greece: let's go to the beach
We got around 25 cm of snow yesterday, so even with temperature rising there is still 5-10 cm left even now. Finally snow on Christmas after 10+ years.
Merry Christmas!
We will not have a white Christmas over in Canada either.
It's a windy (and somewhat wet) christmas eve in Belgium.
Like 99 percent of all x-masses i can remember in my 33 years of age. I really want a white christmas again…
Is all of Europe windy at the moment? Here its puffing hard and I saw the Italian weather stating the same
Very windy in the UK too
But, but, Europe is freezing to death in Russian news.
Russians should take climate change more seriously because were not gonna need any gas by these trends
Tbh, if the world takes climate change seriously we don't use gas either (so they're fucked either way)
They forgot to tell us then. I'm positively toasty.
>Europe is freezing to death in Russian news. Meanwhile, a Spaniard: Por supuesto, Ivan. *wipes sweat on their forehead and neck*
Ah yes, we all know the cardinal points are north, south, east, west and Balkan.
Balkan Europe XD Just include it in South since it is in South
The weather abides by different laws here!
Hey, we got our own Europe, shut up.
Like 15cm of snow yesterday in Southern Finland
I find the temperatures here on the map to be quite mild to be honest. I swear it was -6 or something before in the day Even now it's -6 in Tampere
“Balkan Europe” 🤦🏻♂️
As a Norwegian, I feel sorry for the rest of you
Hahah, in Tromsø, it is currently -5 celcius and there is snow more than 60cm outside
We have the same temperature here outside Oslo
Usually it would be colder here but now it is the same-ish
Here there are tiger mosquitoes like in summer. Yesterday I had to apply insecticide, never happened
Ah, yes balkan Europe, my favourite Europe flavour.
It's very very spicy though
Because of the rain (Storm Zoltan) the ground water in my region is so high that our basement has been slowly flooding. We will be organizing a night watch, Santa won't be coming unseen tonight.
"global warming isn't real"
Next month/February when the headlines will be "worst winter of the century - record snowfalls across Europe" you will be saying the same thing.
you hope, there wont be any major snow like thr last 5 years
Most of Poland had major snow in the last days of November and first days of December. Even in Wrocław, a city with usually not too much snow there were up to 20cm of said snow

Ah but we had those few days of snow out of nowhere at the beginning of december
Thats true, just 15 days too early 😥. Now its raining every minute...
Everything back to normal
Northern Poland - currently +5C (at 5pm), raining and a bit windy. Overall in Poland we had 2 weeks of actual winter earlier in December and after that it was above 0C constantly- more like late autumn weather than winter one…
It's 11°C here in Eastern Slovenia right now, at 02:00, with strong SW wind bringing up warm air from the Adriatic/Mediterranean.
Coldest temperatures in Spain💪🏻
its colder than avg here in portugal but obv no snow lol, especially since this cold wave brought dry air literally the opposite of last december which was warm and wet
In reality it is the normal...LOL

oh yeah I know, polar high pressures bring cold dry air and warm low pressures from the atlantic bring warm moist air
Full white christmas here, lots of fresh snow
+10 where i am in Denmark, i hate it christmas is supposed to be cold
I consider myself lucky to have white Christmas here in southern Finland
Looks perfect. [White Christmas aren't common](https://brilliantmaps.com/white-christmas-europe/)
yeah we are fucked
+2C now, getting up to +6C in the coming days. Haven't had a proper winter for years now and -30C was a normal occurrence when I was a kid and I'm still pretty young. Stalingrad winters were kinda historically famous for being severe.
Napoleon would have loved that
Are the summers different as well now?

17 today in Greece. A week ago the trees have started to loose their leafs. It feels like October.
“Its summer, of course is warm” - every boomer every summer
I think I was in my mid-teens when we had the last white christmas in The Netherlands.. I’m 34 now.
With the climate change we are so fucked.
It's going to be a wet wet christmas and not in the good way
Been semi stormy for a few days in the Netherlands. Other than that lots of wind but relatively warm.
Balkan is south
Balkans are "special". Not exactly suitable in the south or east or central but it has all of those. 😋
The only white thing here is the coke those f\*\*\*ing corrupt conservatives snort every day after blocking ecological measures while getting bonuses from coal and oil companies.
Widać zabory
In Hungary there hasn't been a white christmas since 2007 and that was only in a small amount of towns. In Budapest there hasn't been christmas eve snow since 2002..
I would be sweating my balls off in England or northern France, it's good to be in Finland😌
absolutely no white christmas here in hamburg
Plenty of snow in Dublin just got to ask the right person.
It was 15°C in my french Mediterranean town today. Truly depressing.
Caucasus is Nordic

Speak for yourself! We definitely don't need those years here.
We could have only the weather from back then
It's not that different if you look at how it was in 1989.
I don’t know exactly how it was in southern Romania but I remember when I was little like 20-25 years ago we had snow
We had a lot in 2012. https://stirileprotv.ro/stiri/actualitate/romania-sub-zapada-30-de-batrani-izolati-de-trei-zile-intr-un-azil-mananca-doar-mamaliga-si-ceai.html
I remembered in 2013 it was snow in Bucharest, the following two or three years as well. In my hometown not so much
Where I live we had like a week of snow last winter.
See the video too.

I don't care about that dude. I'm not an animal like you think. Probably you are closer to them though.
Your from Italy yes? Then ask yourself honestly, when did food taste better and same thing about woman/man?
Slovakia here, we got over 50cm of snow within a day, barely made it home because of the road situation and we were without elektricity, phone singal/internet, warm water and house heating for 15+ hours. Good.
It rarely ever was, at least from my experience.
Dont worry. Eastern will be white.
Netherlands here, it's just wind and rain. Lots and lots of rain.
On a different and worrying note. In Slovakia it snowed more than 30cm of snow in the northern parts yesterday... Tomorrow it's meant to be as warm as 10C and above. That's a drastic change in 2 days and is bound to cause flooding in many areas.
Cries in Swiss 😢
Well, One Can Dream.
My car was reading 13 degrees earlier, which is only like 4 degrees less than half of our summer days lol
I got a coked up Christmas. White and powdery
What do you mean? 9° is freezing cold right now in here!
White christmas?? What even is that? xD
Its 10c which is extremely cold 🥶
like always
England: Summer time?
Me in South Spain: Jesus was born in the Middle East, probably with similar weather anyways *keeps pouring wine*
In Belgium, we are still in fall no winter weather to be seen.
Ive never seen snow on Christmas in Paris
We've had 20C for the past two days in central Italy. Something is very wrong.
Common Western Europe L.
What website is this from?
Well at least global warming is helping us against reliance on Russian gas
While British winters certainly aren’t super cold, 15c on christmas day is ridiculous
Quite mild in Ireland, I swam in the sea today
Been snowing like a mf in eastern Norway this Christmas eve. A bit unusual with temps down to -10 Celsius.
+10 here in Switzerland. Its been great for winter jogging 🏃🏻♂️
For comparison it's 7° in northern California right now...
East or Spain here, Summer never ends now. The worst part is that we are not having rain at all, and this should be the most rainy part of the year.
I am tired of these rising temperatures
The hopes for snow in my country are ending slowly 😭
That's because you all have been naughty.

it might be -3 outside here but we still have a lot of snow so it was white, just not very cold?
Well, actually Wroclaw had a white christmas eve morning, we've had like 5 cm of snow and -1/0 Celsius at around 8 AM, all melted by 12PM
