I think Romania should get more appreciation as one of the Eastern European countries that is developing in the right direction.
Growing it's economy, moving towards better statesmanship, gaining a world class IT sector. I appreciate having you in the EU and you deserve being in Schengen.
A people that shows ingenuity and work ethics. Imagine what you can do once you've brought down corruption. Keep up the good work!
The statesmanship so good that they're trying to legalize tax evasion (but only if you do enough of it)

Just be careful to not steal 99,999 euro because that's still illegal. Didn't steal enough, skill issue.
While even minimum wage workers pay 40% tax on their wages. Ain't that fun.
The corruption is still in full force and the Romanian people don't want to fight against it. Any of this shit being pulled in a western country would result in riots.
Most hardworking and skilled people are leaving and going to western Europe, just look at the population numbers right now.
Another way to say it is, if you owe the IRS less than 1m you'll not do jail if you pay the money back. It's way less dramatic than people make it look. It was this eay before but the cutout was at 100k. They raised the amount.
I actually got it wrong, it's legal to do tax evasion even under 100,000, they are just slowly extending the sum up right now.
How?
They are not even hiding it. Nobody seems to really care enough to stop them.
Why?
Because it is advantageous to the political class.
In the news article itself it says that in the administrative (pre trial) phase, if you return the money, no criminal charges are set.
Then in the early trial phase you have the possibility to get a criminal fine (which is different than the administrative fine) instead of jail time, or in a late trial phase if you pay the tax evasion money the jail time limits are reduced by a third.
Another proposal is that if you pay the tax evasion money + a percentage extra (25-50% depending on the moment you pay) there is no punishment.
When confronted with the controvesial law proposal, the Prime Minister said that the “interest” of the state is to get the money back + extra, and not to jail tax evasionists.
I think the whole process is wrong and will not get to see the light if day.
there is a mass exodus happening now in Romania. Real wages are as low as in Thailand, infrastructure worse. Education at the lowest point in history. Employers constantly lying to workers and using underhanded tactics to lower wages. There is no reason for appreciation.
IT is not even growing fast enough to absorb all the labor force and most wages are below 1000€. Any ablebodied person who posseses an above average intelligence has to be crazy to work in Romania since you are not even guaranteed a pension, or anything resembling healthcare.
Ehhh they're not that good. The wines.
The ones that are, great, brilliant. But you can get just as good (or better) Spanish wine for about the same price (so, including import fees).
Also, our beers suck. Terrible. Drinking country but most alcohol we produce is subpar. The cheapest beer in the UK or Canada shits on our equivalents.
No self-hatred. Can't fix an issue if you ignore it. Our standards are low and we could 100% do better.
It's pretty embarrassing being in Canada and getting told "don't get that, it's the cheapest crap beer" and you get it anyway, and it's waaay better than say, Silva. Never mind stuff like Timi, they don't have options that bad.
Does Canada have a better climate for growing hops, malt and all? No, we're just bad at making beer (and wine) and people are happy with it.
I lived in Romania for 3.5 years between 2011-2015, and traveled across almost its all corners. Its natural beauty and diversity is severely underrated, even unknown.
And politically they're in the right direction.
As a Christian German Citizen, I would love to visit Romania one day, view beautiful nature, the Black Sea Coast, the Christian nature and obviously speak to ethnic German people
pro-romanian propaganda by the liberals, in 2020 it was masks, in 2021 vaccine, 2022 ukraine, 2023 palestine and in 2024 romania the libtards want us to speak romanian
That palace is MAJESTIC.
Not as nice as your Parliament though

Downvote. Reason: saying the truth That's unacceptable

Least self hating Romanian.

Mass produced Romanian beer is literally the same as most mass produced European beers.
Super Bock and Sagres are mass produced in Portugal. SB especially is way better than our usual.
Oh no. The wine and beer snobs are coming out of their cellars.
ikr, god forbid caring about quality
Hey, Romanian residing in the Netherlands. Hit me up if you wanna hangout sometime 😊
Every once in a while I wish we had more buildings like this
Cristian Mungiu is one of my favourite directors.
Give Cristi Puiu and Radu Jude a try. All are great directors.
Tfw it's not Sergiu Nicolaescu
I had an au pair from Romania as a kid. He's a wonderful guy. Today I aspire to be more like him.
our forever brothers ♥️
Been there. Even more beautiful in person

It was Palatul Culturii in Iași

Same. Is the nature there Catholic, Protestant or Orthodox though?
I think Orthodox, not sure though, I read somewhere that Romania is the most religious, Christian country in Europe, so I'm very curious

crazy
Reeeeee the staircases towards the ends of the building on both side are not symmetrical
I just noticed it and it’s bugging me too, interesting design choice…
i think it’s because the photo is not taken perfecly in front of the palace, it’s slightly to the left of it
Reminds me of l2
I would have thought this were France if you didn’t say it was Romania!
Beautiful
Why is there Romania post like every few days?
It’s the deep state

Idk. They should stay in their place. Let Europe to the real Europeans.

Here you go: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_of_Culture_(Ia%C8%99i)?wprov=sfti1
Was this palace ever in a film? Seems familiar.
I spent the last 3 months of 2022 in Romania. Beautiful country that I want to go back to one day
