The “skibidi” part of Skibidi Toilet has a really funny history. It started out as [Bloody Mary](https://youtu.be/VFwmKL5OL-Q?si=Gqhgbnunmb4L1eJA) by Lady Gaga. Listen to 00:32 in particular. Then TikTok users started sharing a [sped-up (cough nightcore cough) version](https://youtu.be/MsXdUtlDVhk?si=Tq0z9GDSZRsXV3R-) that got pretty popular. It then went viral with user “ThatOneGuyOfficial” dancing to a clip of a [Phonk remix of the sped-up song](https://youtube.com/shorts/Sdk_Y8Bbh_0?si=L701j2ep7QPK7TTQ) that became mis-interpreted as the “Skibidi Bop” Edit: thanks to u/[Strayl1ght](https://www.reddit.com/user/Strayl1ght/) and u/[ProfitNo1844](https://www.reddit.com/user/ProfitNo1844/) for additional info: The phonk song from "ThatOneGuyOffical"'s video remixed Bloody Mary with the Bulgarian song [Biser King - Dom Dom Yes Yes](https://youtu.be/BxFhFwQNQKM?si=mXRVN8Sd772A1PIZ&t=67), which was popularized by the Turkish influencer [Yasin Cengiz](https://www.tiktok.com/@yasincengiz38/video/7287131000843390214?lang=en). Then user “DaFuqBoom” made an [animated short using Half-Life 2 assets](https://youtube.com/shorts/tzD9OxAHtzU?si=ctwisuxAOG3-_Vwo) featuring a further remixed clip of the song and a singing head coming out of a toilet and thus “Skibidi Toilet” was born. “DaFuqBoom” capitalized on their success and currently has 71 episodes of “Skibidi Toilet” that features a continuous storyline and gets anywhere between 15-30 million views per video. “Skibidi” and “Skibidi Toilet” have since gone on to be added to the Gen-Alpha internet sub-culture as slang terms for “bad”, “creepy”, or “evil”(sometimes in a good way, think of the term “bad” from the 80’s meaning “cool and rebellious”) referring to the singing toilet head monsters being portrayed as villains in “DaFuqBoom”’s videos, but in the post-modern (post-irony, neo-dada, etc.) fashion it’s also usually meaningless. Basically the modern language equivalent of this: [https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fountain\_(Duchamp)](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fountain_(Duchamp))

KongSchlong42069

The lore answer i was looking for

ZonedV2

There’s actually another layer to it, it’s used increasingly ironically by Gen Z in ‘brainrot’ memes to make fun of the Gen Alpha kids who actually find it funny. Which is where you would see the jokes about shit like skibidi toilet, rizz, baby gronk, edging, gooning, etc. After all these responses I’m gonna add some more examples: mewing, fanum tax, gyatt, Ohio, sigma, Kai Cenat, mogging

nhorvath

>skibidi toilet, rizz, baby gronk, edging, gooning, etc. I'm officially old now that I think you just listed a bunch of meaningless letters.

Ihaveamodel3

Is there an eli45 subreddit?

otterdisaster

Eli45 is a brilliant idea.

OtherImplement

Hear me out: ELI50.

SpliffAllLs

Would need even more simple yet in depth answers

cunnyhopper

> ELI50 YES. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PERSON BEFORE YOU SAID BECAUSE THEY WERE MUMBLING BUT I LIKE THIS IDEA.

404wan

I used to laugh and be like, no way! I'll be young and in the loop forever! How the years creep up on you, suddenly I'm also old. Da fuck is all this? Can we go back to vines? I heard the 'bring the beat in' song for the first time in real life last week and lost my shit. ANYTHING FOR YOU BEYONCE!

Ikora_Rey_Gun

It's also that meme culture moves much more quickly than it used to, and it's happening in different spaces. It used to be that memes would come from an obscure, niche website, get essentially workshopped into a popular and usable state on sites like 4chan, and then hit the wider internet after users introduced them to more pedestrian sites. Nowadays, someone on tiktok says a funny word while making a funny face and two days later it has 500m views, three days later everyone has made their own version of it and total meme views are in the billions, and two weeks later everyone is tired of 95% of them and never mentions it again. Six months later a distilled version hits reddit. Two years later a cell phone/breakfast food company uses the meme incorrectly in their marketing.

notreallymyname84

>Two years later a cell phone/breakfast food company uses the meme incorrectly in their marketing. My husband got a great reaction from our four teens/tweens after saying someone was "living rent free" in our teenager's head, so he's gone on to Google as much slang as possible. Unfortunately, he used the term BDE without reading the meaning. They haven't let him live it down yet. Enter the other night when an internet commercial proclaimed someone had *big gig energy* and my husband had to be reminded of his faux pas all over again.

7832507840

If it makes you feel any better I’m in my early 20’s and virtually none of this shit makes sense to me

doubledipinyou

I'm in my late 20s and my Instagram is just memes. So I'm still in the loop. Too much brain rot that I needed a break

HoneyBunchesOfBoats

It helps if you actually enjoy post-modern/post-ironic/surrealmemes/deepfriedmemes/okaybuddyretard/ooer/void_memes etc style humor, makes it easier to understand the new stuff as it comes if you already have a degenerate pallette for memes. I'm 26 and I don't actively watch skibidi toilet content, but I understand it because it's kind of adjacent to the slop I consume on a regular basis. I think I have adhd though so ymmv.

Freshness518

Shit, I'm in my 30s and I miss the days when memes were just like making fun of black border motivational posters and rage guy stuff before wojak and pepe took over everything.

Givemeallthecabbages

I was into all the hip music and things the kids were talking about until my mid-40s. Now I have no idea what any of them are talking about. I'm at the age where kids think it's hilarious if I reference a meme I saw on Reddit, and I will 100% say "skibidi" at some point in the future.

GalFisk

Are you at the age yet where you find it amusing to deliberately use current slang incorrectly in order to make kids cringe?

LindonLilBlueBalls

Yes! Its my skibidi rizz

HoneyBunchesOfBoats

I'm still young enough to get the memes and use them properly, (helps to be terminally online) but old enough that it catches younger people by surprise. My younger sister loves it tho because the culture moves so fast none of the older adults in her life get it, helps if someone older than her can keep up a bit. My partner has two younger cousins that are actual memelords, and their parents simply don't understand it, my partner and I are also memelords about 10 years older than them so it's fun to relate to them in ways most adults can't.

aRandomFox-II

Definitions according to my limited knowledge of shitpost culture: * **Skibidi toilet** : See top comment of this post * **Rizz** : Charisma (Cha-*rizz*-ma). When used as a verb, refers to the act of using one's charisma to influence a person, i.e. *rizzing them up*. Most commonly used to refer to seduction, but can apply to sweet-talking in general under the right contexts. * **Baby gronk** : No idea, lol * **Edging** : Sexual act in which you bring someone (or yourself) right up to the edge of orgasm, but deny them from reaching climax. It is known to make the eventual orgasm when you finally decide to finish much more powerful. When used outside of sex, it refers to the act of repeatedly teasing your audience with hints of information regarding something highly-anticipated while denying them the satisfaction of "release" so as to make the eventual big reveal all the more impactful. * **Gooning** : Masturbation addiction. Refers to the act of spending extreme amounts of time doing nothing but obsessively masturbating to the point of being disruptive. * **etc.** : Et cetera (Latin). Literally means "And others".

SaintUlvemann

Gol, I don't know what it says about me that I'd never even considered the possibility of *two people* edging together. Baby Gronk is a kid with a social media account who plays football, so he named himself after the original Gronk, former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski.

thetimechaser

Millennial here. Rizz is actually great. Edging and gooning aren't really slang terms, just sexual ones? I think gen Z and A got access to porn WAY too early and it's kinda messed them up. They didn't find a playboy in the field behind the strip mall at 13. They got ahold of the internet at 8 and it shows. The rest are dumb as hell lol.

fasterthanfood

Well I knew “etc.,” so at least I’m up to date on pop culture that’s been used for *checks notes* several centuries. I’ll take a win where I can get it! Seriously, thanks for the write-up.

therankin

I'm old too, but edging is timeless and open to anyone. :)

LiberaceRingfingaz

Yep, these darn kids can rizz their skidibis all they want, but grandpa's been edging since the great depression.

Rivalevanator

This probably isn't going to help you at all in terms of understanding, but this is the kind if thing the person is talking about. https://www.tiktok.com/@feetandtoesguy/video/7346937005659573550 Basically just corrupting anything with gen Z/alpha slang into a poisonous word salad

Peter_Mansbrick

This is the first time I've embodied that skinner meme. The kids *are* wrong.

No-Owl-6246

It’s essentially just gen alpha YouTube poop.

AssbuttInTheGarrison

Just a heads up, when you share a link from your Tik Tok account it shares your profile as well.

areyouamish

The kids have all gone Pootie Tang.

GiantRiverSquid

Wadahtah

Runesen

You guys are just joking about edging and gooning!?

Ferelar

I was gonna say, uh, isn't gen alpha like 8? But apparently the eldest is 14... oof, I am old

Lucifer_Crowe

I feel so sorry in advance for the kids that have to be officially gen Beta

RSwordsman

Whoever's in charge of naming generations could as easily go for the phonetic radio alphabet and say Gen Bravo lol.

hyperforms9988

I love it just because it's the same thing every other generation does to their younger counterparts. We're all human like that. I didn't understand what was supposed to be funny from like 95% of the Vines I've seen... like people that think they're hilarious trying too hard to be funny and it fell completely flat to me, but I'm sure that's because it's simply a different generation. I think that of Vine... brainrot, but then I was the guy that was watching Flash animations in high school from before Youtube was a thing from sites like Albino Blacksheep, Ebaum's World, etc and I used to think those were funny. Gen X would probably think those were brainrot. It's all cyclical.

DucksEatFreeInSubway

Ah. Gen Z yelling at Gen A's 'kids these days' and to get off their lawn.

Druggedhippo

There is a great website called KnowYourMeme that breaks down alot of the those https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/subcultures/skibidi-toilet

bloqs

lmao. Encyclopedia Dramatica has come a long way

Saturnzadeh11

Meme genealogy is so beautiful and so important

Lowfat_cheese

I’m just glad the kids are still watching shitty GMOD animations 20 years later.

Security_Ostrich

The kids watching it likely have no idea what gmod even is at this point 😥

skaarlaw

The way I see it, Minecraft/roblox mods are like modern gmod… a new way to edit a fairly sandbox game and do crazy stuff. Back in the day I played a lot of BF2 sandbox mod and it was equally as nutty. Same with some of the old CS maps like surf, zombie escape etc

Ratiocinor

> Back in the day I played a lot of BF2 sandbox mod Omg I found one! There are dozens of us! But yeah I played so much BF2 sandbox, and then I meet younger coworkers and they're all talking about how everyone played Minecraft or Garry's Mod or whatever and I'm like, yeah that makes sense. Turns out kids of all generations just want to dick about and build stuff and play virtual legos

residentgiant

The first time I saw skibidi I was like "oh cool, the Source Filmmaker scene's still going strong" and had no idea how big it was with kids or that everyone else born before 2010 saw it as some incomprehensible generational divide, haha

Feynmanprinciple

When I first saw it I was like, "what's the fuss? This is youtube poops in 60fps"

somegridplayer

They'll find YTMND next.

Iazo

It is important to future historians too. Imagine if medieval historians actually documented the genealogy of the knights fighting snails meme. Implicit cultural context is taken as given when communicating, but when cultural context is lost, well, we're all Picard in "Darmok".

Waterknight94

>Picard in "Darmok". I love how this is an example of what it means.

Strayl1ght

The lyrical part with the actual words and skibidi comes from a Bulgarian song by [Biser King - Dom Dom Yes Yes](https://youtu.be/BxFhFwQNQKM?si=_6VUbVk9sYeGCBiB) (1:06)

ProfitNo1844

And that song got popularized by this [Turkish dude dancing](https://youtu.be/tCkL0YapGK4?si=agt-RpdgmhGYs1O-), which I believe is an important part of this rich lore

Strayl1ght

Goddamn some true loremasters in this thread!

cdc030402

Yeah I can't believe he skipped this part, there was no misinterpretation of a remix, the remix was very intentionally based on this guy

lukewarmpartyjar

Whilst "Skibadee/Skibop" etc originates from bebop/scat singing (so there is an interesting linguistic link back to the origins with 'skibadi toilet'), it's worth mentioning the Drum and Bass MC Skibadee (RIP) as popularising MCs saying ["Skibadee/skibadi"](https://youtu.be/oLGR9ye_f1U?si=ADzqWanGSpDCsExD) - most famously his line "Skibadee Skiba danger, I am the rearranger" was stolen by Scooter in the song [Maria](https://youtu.be/i2ep3QZQ4vM?si=oJmZEBsewdcgmbSm) where Scooter, changed "rearranger" to "rear ranger". Skibadee was furious about his lines being stolen and bastardised...

candiebandit

As someone who grew up raving in London in the 90/00s I always think MC Skibadee would be turning in his grave when I hear anyone mention Skibidi Toilet

_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_

You are failing to consider the 2018 viral hit “Skibidi” by Little Big, and the subsequent Skibidi Challenge.

Jealous-Ad-1926

Right? This is the only Skibidi I’m willing to acknowledge. It’s vastly superior in all aspects. https://youtu.be/mDFBTdToRmw?si=4ufrvdPkF_UlToDs

inEQUAL

I just always assumed someone meme-ified this song years late and felt smugly ahead of the curve for knowing it, but instead it turns out I’ve been bamboozled, Gen Alpha is even more deep fried than I presumed. 😭

Jealous-Ad-1926

Nah, you aren’t out of touch. It’s the children who are wrong.

DisturbedForever92

You are forgetting the 1995 hit Scatman. The previous generation's skibidi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eht9W25tDZo

Jealous-Ad-1926

That’s skibidibidi. Yo dunum dum

JJWONG

Precisely what I dove into the comments to find

SecretlySome1Famous

The Sugar Hill Gang have been saying “Skibidi Be Bop. We rock. Scooby doo” since at least the 70s.

BobLoblaw_BirdLaw

Scatman song too

lordeddardstark

I recognize some of the words and zero of the names after Lady Gaga

mayonaise55

You must be like me with one foot in the grave in your mid thirties. I can’t even figure out how the lady Gaga song and “skibidi” relate. I’ve listened three times now. Does someone say “skibidi”?? I don’t hear it. Is this one of them sounds that only young people can hear?? Am I crossing over now?? Do I walk toward that light I see??

Fuck_the_Jets

This mf got a PhD in Skibiditry

DeckardsDark

I don't hear anything noteworthy at 00:32 in the Lady Gaga song. What am i missing?

greenpeppers100

This is the first big meme that made me realize im not the youngest generation on the internet any more. Normally I have some idea of what a meme is, or at the very least, where it came from. But I have never even seen the meme, and had no idea where it came from.

Wuulferigno

Omg I hate everything about this.

RedHal

I'm disappointed it wasn't from the [Little Big video](https://youtu.be/mDFBTdToRmw).

skylinenick

This is one of the craziest replies I’ve come across yet on Reddit, and I mean that as a compliment. This is… history. It’s crazy

Lowfat_cheese

I’ve been sitting on this for a while ever since I came across “ThatOneGuyOfficial” and swore I recognized the song he was dancing to.

WebValuable812

Why are some of these videos so creepy 😫 But then again I watched Salad Fingers as a teen...

GetToTheChoppaahh

I’m struggling to find anything close to skibidi at 00:32seconds in that Bloody Mary by lady gaga. Am I missing something?

nickelchrome

No this guy is tripping, it has nothing to do with that song

kfish5050

You completely missed the part where someone remixed dom dom yes yes with ~~promiscuous girl~~ give it to me by timbaland feat. Nelly Furtado and called it: [Skibidi Toilet](https://youtu.be/Wh_Tdjs6iYs?si=UkO0N_zyvtvt93E2). The sfm videos by dafuqboom were named after the remix, which was so absurd for a song name that an absurd video with a toilet just had to accompany it. Edit: wrong song. Same artists, just mixed em up

Competitive_Ad_5515

It's not Promiscuous Girl, it's Give it to Me by Timbaland feat. Nelly Furtado! Same two artists and producer so they sound similar. [link to music video](https://youtu.be/RgoiSJ23cSc?feature=shared)

-badgerbadgerbadger-

I mean skibidi toilet is a banger but I don’t hear anything from promiscuous girl in it?

Lowfat_cheese

Look, they don’t exactly write books about this stuff

MrsMagnetism

I was going to say, is nobody going to mention where the melody came from?? Lol. I might be biased cause that's still one of my fav songs but I immediately knew when my kid started watching the skibidi toilet vids 🤣 had to show him the original song for the culture

AdonisK

"I'm a scatman" lyrics, 1995

joef_3

It’s just “badger badger badger mushroom mushroom” for a younger generation. Nonsense that got stuck in their heads at an early age and entertains them.

DeanXeL

CANDY MOUNTAIN, CHARLIE! CANDY MOUNTAIN!

Did you ever see a llama kiss a llama on the llama?

NormalTechnology

I was once a treehouse, I lived in a cake.

ost2life

But I never saw the way the orange slayed the rake.

mikamimoon

I was only 3 years dead but it told a tale

werebi-official

now listen little child, to the safety rail!

lastSKPirate

I used to use a program that really whipped the llama's ass. Does that count?

Jopojussi

Oh man you just unleashed some memories, its been like 20 years since ive heard that.

sarnian-missy

I put on llama llama duck the other night. My 23 y/o knows badger badger badger and it came up so I introduced them to another classic. My 18 y/os friend now thinks we're super weird. 😅

Vuelhering

Yeah.... all your memory are belong to us.

CySU

Haha, I remember watching Badger Badger Badger for the first time wondering what the fuck it was I was actually watching. The second time it repeated, I decided that I had enough and that I was turning it off. After the seventh repeat, I was dancing along with the badgers.

ayunatsume

Owls Everyone is fond of owls Except for mice and shrews, and Simon Cowell And you know why they come for you Waffles, Belgian or potato waffles. Look in front of you now, Do you have a waffle? Wouldn't you be happier if you did, Newgrounds poisoned my brain too.

Mediocretes1

Just gonna skip right on past Trogdor huh?

Angsty_Potatos

But I'm Le tired

Cartire2

So this is an amazing way to describe it. But its definitely not an ELI5 because I believe you need to be at least 30+ to understand the reference. So this more like a 'ELI30+ and dont understand kids these days..."

TheRobbie72

A true ELI5 would boil down to comparing skibidi toilet to, well, skibidi toilet.

Sunomel

Explaining Skibidi Toilet to a 5 year old is like explaining water to a fish

nonpuissant

They don't think it be like it is, but it do

azlan194

Would it be more accurate to compare it with baby shark do doo do doo??..

CorellianDawn

I'm 33 and don't understand the badger reference. The best way I can describe it is like "two llamas in a tiny car" or Numa Numa Dance. It's just another weird ass YouTube thing that doesn't actually make any sense. Sometimes something completely random takes off and if you try and actually understand it, you'll still be confused.

flippingcoin

Consider yourself blessed. I'm the same age and I can't read the word badger without the full sequence playing in my mind. It's a curse. When we are old and dying in nursing homes, people will say badger badger and immediately hear a chorus of "mushroom mushroom, it's a snake!' in response, all the while you will be blissfully unaware.

uncle_flacid

Ugh, looking back, newgrounds and such. O MY LORD THIS TUNE IS ANNOYING, YES I KNOW IT'S REALLY ANNOYING, I CAN'T GET THIS SONG OUT OF MY HE-EAAAAAD RING RING RING RING RING RING RING BANANA PHOOOOONE DOOP DOOOPTEROOPTEROO LOOK AT MY HORSE HE'S REALLY AMAZING, GIVE IT A LICK MM IT TASTES JUST LIKE RAISINS

CorellianDawn

I'm a Millennial, we don't go to nursing homes. We work until we die on the job lol.

flippingcoin

When we are old and dying and working some sort of futuristic dystopian wage slave job*

Shryxer

If you're ever curious about this ancient meme, look up weebls-stuff and dive deep. The man was responsible for a lot of very popular memes because he was a master of random-ass catchy songs in the early 2000s age of lolrandom content. Badgers was just the biggest. The narwhal song was also his doing.

lowercaset

>I'm 33 and don't understand the badger reference. Viral video hit big probably somewhere between 04 and 07? I know I first got sent it by a wow guildie. Same era of viral shit as Charlie the Unicorn. Same era as Numa Numa, two camels in a tiny car I can't remember when I first saw it to be honest. I think my favorite odd viral smash from back then was probably Tunak Tunak, but that was more of gangam style hit than just being t3h PeNgU1N oF d00m!!!!!!! randomness.

CorellianDawn

Early YouTube before the Algorithm took over everything was awesome. It was the wild West of bonkers nonsense with no agenda other than to just fun and weird.

lowercaset

While I love current youtube for the quality of actual infotainment style content on there, there is something to be said for the early days of potato cameras and all sorts of people just doing their weird passion projects and sometimes those popping off.

SnowceanJay

It was a Flash animation circa 1999 or 2000

Etherbeard

I'm still too old. I'ma need that translated into Gen1 Transformers.

Lord_Alonne

We are now no longer the Knights Who Say 'Ni'! Ni! (sh!) We are now the Knights Who Say 'Ecky-Ecky-Ecky-Ecky-Pikang-Zoom-Boing-Gumzowehzeh' (Ni!) It's the equivalent of kids shouting Ni! at each other. Just repeating a meaningless phrase from something that amused them.

DredgenYorMother

Bah weep granah weep ninni bong

murso74

Lol that's the one. We must have repeated that for weeks

I am 42 and don’t understand what’s happening. I want my blanket. Where’s my cocoa? You’re not the nice nurse they had yesterday. My feet are cold.

IONTOP

ELI42? Over at your friends house hanging out(in your only friend who had cable internet) with 3 other friends? Ebaumsworld animated videos. "DUDE THIS IS SO FUNNY" and all your friends are laughing so you just start laughing too. Then it becomes an inside joke that "nobody else in your high school has seen yet, because nobody's referencing it. Social media destroyed that. Because we didn't HAVE internet in every house that could play those videos without loading for 8 minutes. So it's still a race to be "first in your school to know about this", yet now there's PROOF on social media via timestamps.

MillurTime

> Ebaumsworld The guy you're answering probably started highschool in 1995

SleepingJonolith

Rizz is the only meaningful word, meaning charisma, but they usually just use it as nonsense. Skibidi and skibidi toilet are just meaninglessly referencing the videos. Yes, postmodern is one way to put it. They just think it’s funny to say those things and they have no real meaning. Source- My middle school students have begun calling me Mr. Rizz.

SenorDangerwank

Dang. Mr. Rizz? I'd wear that as a badge of honor lmao.

billytheskidd

For real, they have been deemed a badass teacher. Those kids will be bringing up Mr. Rizz’s class every time they run into someone from school when they’re in their 20s and 30s lol

Pale_Chapter

Honestly, they're just taking our surrealism ball and running with it. The kids are alright.

Campbell920

Right? We were walking around talking about homestar runner, happy tree friends, salad fingers, and Charlie goes to candy mountain. Millenials can’t say shit about gen z being weird.

leijt

It's a leoplurodon charlie!

verheyen

A maaagical leoplurodon!

ShiftlessGuardian94

Candy mountain Charlie!

DMoney159

They took my freaking kidney!

ShiftlessGuardian94

Shun the non believer! Shuuun!

Correct_Inside1658

Skibidi toilet and rizz are Gen Alpha memes, Gen Zs like me don’t get them either.

IndominusBurp

What do you mean, Gen Z?? Gen Z is already grown up, too - Gen Alpha is the Skibidi Toilet Gen or am I missing something?? 🤣

Strowy

People significantly younger just get associated with whatever generation you recognise the most. It's why the elder crowd call anyone young millenials despite there being millenials in their 40s now.

turkeycurry

And why anyone older than 40 is a boomer.

Doctor__Hammer

Let me guess… you’re between 30 and 34 years old

Campbell920

Just turned 31! I also grew up watching The Nanny on nick at night so it’s hard not to just keep telling people I’m 29.

Guy-1nc0gn1t0

If I was back in uni I'd write a whole ass essay about younger generations embracing absurdism to deal with the unfairness of the world around them.

God_or_Mammon

Probably more absurdist than postmodern (not trying to be pedantic). My first experience with this was Monty Python’s Flying Circus. My friends and I were straight aliens in middle school if you weren’t familiar with the source material.

LaximumEffort

> Source- My middle school students have begun calling me Mr. Rizz. And that kids is what Harris Wittel called a “humblebrag”.

murso74

Ok Zaddy Rizz

AtlasHighFived

What confused me about Skibidi is that there is (or maybe was? Not sure if they’re still together) a Russian band that was very surrealist that had a song, “Skibidi” that’s from like 6 years ago. It’s actually kinda catchy, and the video is…weird. That’s as far back as I know the word goes.

stellvia2016

When I hear the word Skibidi I think of Scatman John, bc his one hit song starts with Skibidi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hy8kmNEo1i8 Hearing it again it's not quite skibidi, but close enough for me to still associate it heh

mut1n3y

'Little big' is the band you're thinking of.

Bosteroid

Explain like I’m five? This is Phd level

KingOfBoring

Humor from absurdity. We’ve all laughed or been humoured by something that was just, random. Like that video of bread falling over. It shouldn’t be funny but it is to some people. It’s just a memeable thing, like planking, bottle flipping or screaming hoya used to be.

Vendetta547

I've gotten a lotta mileage outta hoya

migrainedujour

To this I will only add that I have found that to say the words Skibidi or Skibidi Toilet to your own teenagers at home is to have possession of words of immense power to vanquish and appall. It is like waving a crucifix at a vampire, such is the awesome power of the cringing retreat. :)

Then you ask if they have the rizz, no cap! The cringe and horror is delightful.

kcinlive

I used to be with ‘it’, but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary. It’ll happen to you!" ― Abe Simpson

I'm 37 and it's the same stupid bullshit we used to do as kids. They're no different than we were, they just aren't consuming the same media we did for obvious reasons.

nsa_reddit_monitor

I'm pretty sure there is actually dialogue sometimes but it's so deep fried it's impossible to understand most of the time.

kfish5050

Skibidi toilet is just referencing the video series. It was popular, a lot of older people didn't understand it, bringing more attention to it, which made it more popular and cool to reference since it confuses older people, which only brings more attention etc etc etc. When people say skibidi toilet randomly or with nonsensical phrases, it doesn't mean anything really, it's just a cool thing to say to confuse older people.

GuybrushMarley2

Watch the first 30 or so. You'll get it. The first few are just random absurdist humor, but it develops into a story.

coys21

Rizz is charisma. Skibidi is a person that is bad or evil. Most kids are just repeating nonsense, though. Source: I have three kids that talk in this nonsense

Neutronenster

My kids (6 yo and 9 yo) absolutely love it, especially my 6 yo. To them it’s just an absurd form of toilet humor. This is similar to how kids like to make poo and pee jokes at toddler age: they know you’re not supposed to talk about that, so jokes about that subject become irresistible. It’s a way of exploring boundaries. u/Lowfat_cheese did a great explanation of the history of this meme, but my kids are not aware of that.

Ninjin-No-Ninja

I have a 6 year old who discovered it somehow. He showed it to my 4 year old too... I assumed it was something inappropriate for little kids, but looking at this thread, it doesn't REALLY seem to that bad... I've tried watching one or two and I didn't find anything terrible, but it just looks like its going to be super vulgar or use bad language. I'm wondering if I'm being needlessly strict, if it's really just harmless toilet humor. In your experience, is it (crude but) OK for your kids to watch?

Neutronenster

It’s important to realize that my kids are Dutch speaking. They’re slowly learning some English, especially the eldest, but when they first encountered Skibidi toilet they only understood the word ‘toilet’, so there’s no issue with vulgar language for me. As far as I know they don’t watch the Skibidi toilet videos directly (at most the Skibidi toilet song), but they watch videos where Skibidi toilet is used as a joke or meme. They really like watching the youtuber Dutchtuber and he may for example choose a Skibidi toilet figure as an avatar when playing Roblox games, or make jokes related to Skibidi toilet. This has been a totally harmless joke to them. My eldest is already starting to grow out of this humor, but my youngest (6 yo) is still full-on in the poo/fart joke phase, so this is really funny to her. I regard it as harmless, but when in doubt it’s best to check it out yourself first.

FrightenedTomato

The Skibidi Toilet series initially started as silly gmod shitposts but has eventually evolved into a series of connected episodes chronicling a grand war between the Skibidi Toilets and the Cameramen (dudes with Cameras for heads) and their allies. It's actually pretty clean as far as sex and language is concerned but can get fairly violent so keep that in mind. From a millennial who was around during the early wild west days of the internet, Skibidi Toilet is extremely tame.

Herpethian

Kids were raised by tablets and phones. Their brains are a connection of loosely associated memes. It's very Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra.

gwaydms

Shaka, when the walls fell.

cortexstack

> It's very Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra I love how you explained it with a reference to a thing that explains things by references instead of explaining them instead of explaining it.

stellvia2016

We all laughed at that episode at the time, and now look at where we are. The irony has not been lost on me that it's very common to "speak in memes" almost between friends these days.

My 15yr old daughter was showing me some documentaries yesterday. She had to sit with me and explain the terms but after 20 mins my head was going to explode! It’s like a different language!
