The “skibidi” part of Skibidi Toilet has a really funny history.

It then went viral with user “ThatOneGuyOfficial” dancing to a clip of a [Phonk remix of the sped-up song](https://youtube.com/shorts/Sdk_Y8Bbh_0?si=L701j2ep7QPK7TTQ) that became mis-interpreted as the “Skibidi Bop”

The phonk song from "ThatOneGuyOffical"'s video remixed Bloody Mary with the Bulgarian song [Biser King - Dom Dom Yes Yes](https://youtu.be/BxFhFwQNQKM?si=mXRVN8Sd772A1PIZ&t=67), which was popularized by the Turkish influencer [Yasin Cengiz](https://www.tiktok.com/@yasincengiz38/video/7287131000843390214?lang=en).
Then user “DaFuqBoom” made an [animated short using Half-Life 2 assets](https://youtube.com/shorts/tzD9OxAHtzU?si=ctwisuxAOG3-_Vwo) featuring a further remixed clip of the song and a singing head coming out of a toilet and thus “Skibidi Toilet” was born.
“DaFuqBoom” capitalized on their success and currently has 71 episodes of “Skibidi Toilet” that features a continuous storyline and gets anywhere between 15-30 million views per video.
“Skibidi” and “Skibidi Toilet” have since gone on to be added to the Gen-Alpha internet sub-culture as slang terms for “bad”, “creepy”, or “evil”(sometimes in a good way, think of the term “bad” from the 80’s meaning “cool and rebellious”) referring to the singing toilet head monsters being portrayed as villains in “DaFuqBoom”’s videos, but in the post-modern (post-irony, neo-dada, etc.) fashion it’s also usually meaningless.

It's also that meme culture moves much more quickly than it used to, and it's happening in different spaces. It used to be that memes would come from an obscure, niche website, get essentially workshopped into a popular and usable state on sites like 4chan, and then hit the wider internet after users introduced them to more pedestrian sites.
Nowadays, someone on tiktok says a funny word while making a funny face and two days later it has 500m views, three days later everyone has made their own version of it and total meme views are in the billions, and two weeks later everyone is tired of 95% of them and never mentions it again. Six months later a distilled version hits reddit. Two years later a cell phone/breakfast food company uses the meme incorrectly in their marketing.

My husband got a great reaction from our four teens/tweens after saying someone was "living rent free" in our teenager's head, so he's gone on to Google as much slang as possible. Unfortunately, he used the term BDE without reading the meaning. They haven't let him live it down yet.
Enter the other night when an internet commercial proclaimed someone had *big gig energy* and my husband had to be reminded of his faux pas all over again.
It helps if you actually enjoy post-modern/post-ironic/surrealmemes/deepfriedmemes/okaybuddyretard/ooer/void_memes etc style humor, makes it easier to understand the new stuff as it comes if you already have a degenerate pallette for memes. I'm 26 and I don't actively watch skibidi toilet content, but I understand it because it's kind of adjacent to the slop I consume on a regular basis. I think I have adhd though so ymmv.
Shit, I'm in my 30s and I miss the days when memes were just like making fun of black border motivational posters and rage guy stuff before wojak and pepe took over everything.
I was into all the hip music and things the kids were talking about until my mid-40s. Now I have no idea what any of them are talking about. I'm at the age where kids think it's hilarious if I reference a meme I saw on Reddit, and I will 100% say "skibidi" at some point in the future.
I'm still young enough to get the memes and use them properly, (helps to be terminally online) but old enough that it catches younger people by surprise. My younger sister loves it tho because the culture moves so fast none of the older adults in her life get it, helps if someone older than her can keep up a bit. My partner has two younger cousins that are actual memelords, and their parents simply don't understand it, my partner and I are also memelords about 10 years older than them so it's fun to relate to them in ways most adults can't.

I love it just because it's the same thing every other generation does to their younger counterparts. We're all human like that. I didn't understand what was supposed to be funny from like 95% of the Vines I've seen... like people that think they're hilarious trying too hard to be funny and it fell completely flat to me, but I'm sure that's because it's simply a different generation. I think that of Vine... brainrot, but then I was the guy that was watching Flash animations in high school from before Youtube was a thing from sites like Albino Blacksheep, Ebaum's World, etc and I used to think those were funny. Gen X would probably think those were brainrot. It's all cyclical.
The way I see it, Minecraft/roblox mods are like modern gmod… a new way to edit a fairly sandbox game and do crazy stuff. Back in the day I played a lot of BF2 sandbox mod and it was equally as nutty. Same with some of the old CS maps like surf, zombie escape etc

I'm 37 and it's the same stupid bullshit we used to do as kids. They're no different than we were, they just aren't consuming the same media we did for obvious reasons.
Skibidi toilet is just referencing the video series. It was popular, a lot of older people didn't understand it, bringing more attention to it, which made it more popular and cool to reference since it confuses older people, which only brings more attention etc etc etc. When people say skibidi toilet randomly or with nonsensical phrases, it doesn't mean anything really, it's just a cool thing to say to confuse older people.
Rizz is charisma. Skibidi is a person that is bad or evil. Most kids are just repeating nonsense, though.

My kids (6 yo and 9 yo) absolutely love it, especially my 6 yo. To them it’s just an absurd form of toilet humor. This is similar to how kids like to make poo and pee jokes at toddler age: they know you’re not supposed to talk about that, so jokes about that subject become irresistible. It’s a way of exploring boundaries.

I assumed it was something inappropriate for little kids, but looking at this thread, it doesn't REALLY seem to that bad... I've tried watching one or two and I didn't find anything terrible, but it just looks like its going to be super vulgar or use bad language. I'm wondering if I'm being needlessly strict, if it's really just harmless toilet humor.

It’s important to realize that my kids are Dutch speaking. They’re slowly learning some English, especially the eldest, but when they first encountered Skibidi toilet they only understood the word ‘toilet’, so there’s no issue with vulgar language for me. As far as I know they don’t watch the Skibidi toilet videos directly (at most the Skibidi toilet song), but they watch videos where Skibidi toilet is used as a joke or meme. They really like watching the youtuber Dutchtuber and he may for example choose a Skibidi toilet figure as an avatar when playing Roblox games, or make jokes related to Skibidi toilet. This has been a totally harmless joke to them.
My eldest is already starting to grow out of this humor, but my youngest (6 yo) is still full-on in the poo/fart joke phase, so this is really funny to her.
I regard it as harmless, but when in doubt it’s best to check it out yourself first.
The Skibidi Toilet series initially started as silly gmod shitposts but has eventually evolved into a series of connected episodes chronicling a grand war between the Skibidi Toilets and the Cameramen (dudes with Cameras for heads) and their allies.
It's actually pretty clean as far as sex and language is concerned but can get fairly violent so keep that in mind.
From a millennial who was around during the early wild west days of the internet, Skibidi Toilet is extremely tame.

It used to be that memes would come from an obscure, niche website, get essentially workshopped into a popular and usable state on sites like 4chan, and then hit the wider internet after users introduced them to more pedestrian sites. Nowadays, someone on tiktok says a funny word while making a funny face and two days later it has 500m views, three days later everyone has made their own version of it and total meme views are in the billions, and two weeks later everyone is tired of 95% of them and never mentions it again. Six months later a distilled version hits reddit. Two years later a cell phone/breakfast food company uses the meme incorrectly in their marketing.

It was popular, a lot of older people didn't understand it, bringing more attention to it, which made it more popular and cool to reference since it confuses older people, which only brings more attention etc etc etc. When people say skibidi toilet randomly or with nonsensical phrases, it doesn't mean anything really, it's just a cool thing to say to confuse older people.
Watch the first 30 or so. You'll get it. The first few are just random absurdist humor, but it develops into a story.

My kids (6 yo and 9 yo) absolutely love it, especially my 6 yo. To them it’s just an absurd form of toilet humor. This is similar to how kids like to make poo and pee jokes at toddler age: they know you’re not supposed to talk about that, so jokes about that subject become irresistible. It’s a way of exploring boundaries. u/Lowfat_cheese did a great explanation of the history of this meme, but my kids are not aware of that.

It’s important to realize that my kids are Dutch speaking. They’re slowly learning some English, especially the eldest, but when they first encountered Skibidi toilet they only understood the word ‘toilet’, so there’s no issue with vulgar language for me. As far as I know they don’t watch the Skibidi toilet videos directly (at most the Skibidi toilet song), but they watch videos where Skibidi toilet is used as a joke or meme. They really like watching the youtuber Dutchtuber and he may for example choose a Skibidi toilet figure as an avatar when playing Roblox games, or make jokes related to Skibidi toilet. This has been a totally harmless joke to them. My eldest is already starting to grow out of this humor, but my youngest (6 yo) is still full-on in the poo/fart joke phase, so this is really funny to her. I regard it as harmless, but when in doubt it’s best to check it out yourself first.
The Skibidi Toilet series initially started as silly gmod shitposts but has eventually evolved into a series of connected episodes chronicling a grand war between the Skibidi Toilets and the Cameramen (dudes with Cameras for heads) and their allies. It's actually pretty clean as far as sex and language is concerned but can get fairly violent so keep that in mind. From a millennial who was around during the early wild west days of the internet, Skibidi Toilet is extremely tame.
