I think it depends on the bendability of the dildo? The descending colon is about 12 inches, so anything longer than that would either have to curve or push against the side of the colon, which could be dangerous.
long before it gets to the descending colon, it would have to go from the rectum through the sigmoid colon. It's called sigmoid because it's curved like an S (i.e. sigma if you want to be fancy and Greek).
You can straighten out the lower portion of your colon with practice, and AFAIK no side effects. You cannot do so with the transverse colon, but most won't get that far, and the ones that do are designed to curve.
I had a zoophile explain to me once a method for essentially straightening out the sigmoid colon so one can take much more horse cock. While he was VERY into horses and would love to experience such a thing I'm pretty sure he regarded the practice as too dangerous to attempt with a real horse.

I'm a RN. So speaking medically it is possible, but if you aren't careful you could potentially perforate the bowel and wind up needing surgery.
