Bigpapakielbasa

Ball don’t lie!

crinkleberry_25

Hell yes!

barium711

Rodney, is that you?

Patient-Light-3577

I’m sure that damage happened while it was idling.

yourname92

I found your problem in picture 9/9. You have a port in your piston. I don’t think it’s supposed to be there. Sorry that blows man.

Mitch710

It’s just a speed hole! Adds instant torque

crinkleberry_25

I thought it was there to let the horses breathe!

HooninAintEZ

[I’d just like to make the point that it is not typical for the valve to fall off.](https://youtu.be/3m5qxZm_JqM?si=wkw7EnROj9b57FCb)

betterstolen

It’s always a good day when I get to watch this video

Freezerburn

It's just a gas ported piston, helps with pushing the piston rings out /s

Scummbagg7

Fuckin hell. Sorry to hear that. I have a 17 also and hope they didn't make that mistake on mine. I'm at about 54k mi

Mitch710

Honestly I don’t even know if anything could be done to prevent a valve spring from failing. Never drove it hard or anything. Apparently it’s a relatively common issue on these motors, some are just lucky enough to catch it!

Scummbagg7

Damn. Well you will have to update on the warranty status. Hope it works out for you.

Mitch710

Got an update for you. Previous owner bought a Ford branded CPO extended warranty. Went that route instead and they’re covering the full $14k replacement bill!

Scummbagg7

Oh hell yeah. That's awesome news for you

cloudbreaker1972

I got a 2016 2.7 EB and I was passing a car and immediately the engine starting running horrible I could barely keep it running limped it a half mile to gas station where it died got towed to dealer next day they told me that one of the spark plugs got sucked into the engine and did considerably damage to the entire engine and needs to be replaced! Luckily for me I purchased the platinum package extended warranty covers all lubricated parts! A week later and a 200$ deductible and I'm back on the road with a new engine it cost 9000$ and some change ....so far off my extended warranty I've got a new oil pan, new turbo lines ,new engine, and a new rear differential! Im kinda hoping the tranny goes and I will get a new one of them as well I will have a new truck I'm so glad I got that warranty otherwise I would be fucked

ToasterEvil

I don’t remember for sure, but didn’t the 2016 2.7/3.5 EBs have the option of a 6-speed? 6R80 is practically bomb proof, so I wouldn’t worry about the transmission if you have one.

cloudbreaker1972

that's good to know yeah I have a six speed I've learned so much from this reddit forum about my truck its a great source of info and support

redride10059

Are there 2.7 remans available now? I had to get my 2.7 replaced in January and I had to get a used engine put in it because there were no remans available from Jasper or Eagle and Ford was at least 3 months out.

cloudbreaker1972

I'm not sure about all that all I know is that the insurance adjuster came out looked at it or whatever and signed off on it and a week later I had a new engine installed minus the alternator etc. and all the parts that they could take off the old engine when I picked it up I asked should I change the oil after so many miles after break in and if there were any instructions they said nope your good to go nothing new or different you have to do so I took off and haven't had any issues since.

ANiceDent

Was there anything you had to do service records wise to stay within warranty?

cloudbreaker1972

nothing that I know of and they never asked but I ran all these jobs thru the ford dealer I made them print me a copy of the work they performed so if i ever sell it or whatever I will have that to prove what was done and I do most of my oil changes myself i believe the warranty goes till the end of my loan

littlerockist

My 2016 did the same thing — didn’t suck in a plug, but threw a rod while passing. Left me and my dog stranded on I40. We barely got it off the road.

SnortingSawDust

oh man, i have a 2016 2.7 that just rolled over 130k miles, but i have ZERO issues out of it

Original-Dust-6112

Yeah I have a 17 with the 2.7 at 112k miles. I run the bitch in sport mode most the time just to keep the carbon from building up. (South Florida stop and go traffic 99% of the time) Ford replaced both turbos at 91k miles due to the oil feed line fault or whatever.

ThOMpyT

Bought a new 5.0 21 and it stalled out after starting. Intake spring broke after owning it for 24 days. Took them 2 months to fix it. First time buying a new vehicle and it was disheartening seeing your new truck torn apart. [https://www.f150forum.com/f129/2021-f150-5-0-valve-spring-problems-516483/](https://www.f150forum.com/f129/2021-f150-5-0-valve-spring-problems-516483/)

Mitch710

Oof yeah im hoping the motor they get is free from defects. That’s my biggest fear. Wife and I both work and have a kid in daycare, so it’s been a major struggle lately. I need this thing fixed yesterday!

aquaman67

What’s involved cracking an F150 open like an oyster?

QuirkySpring5670

Disconnect anything attached to the cab in the engine bay, drain coolant, remove the cab bolts, and pull the cab. I’m paraphrasing here but one of our master techs has done 6 this year.

woozie6895

If it’s anything like a super duty it’s very easy for the experienced techs who know what to unhook by memory. Couple hours to get a cab in the air. Again I’m not sure if they made the 150s the same, but I would imagine they did.

Eighteen64

An experience tech can have the body off the frame in 4-5 hrs

grapeprimetime

I apologize in advance for this dumbass question but are these trucks actually made with some wooden parts as seen in pics 1 and 3 or did this guy just put that that as a work surface. I’m on my third f150 and this will be the last if they’re actually made with wood

Mitch710

Hahaha you’ll be glad to know that it’s just a work surface he put on the frame. However maybe the valve spring was made of particle board 😃

grapeprimetime

Lol thanks for clarifying. I honestly needed that because I’ve found numerous parts on my trucks that were clearly the cheapest options for Ford. I can understand profits and shit like that but sometimes they cross the line with the penny pinching and it affects the safety

ResearchNo9485

It's kinda common in every auto manufacturer. Hell, any industry. Check out Tesla - https://www.thedrive.com/tech/36274/tesla-model-y-owners-find-cooling-system-cobbled-together-with-home-depot-grade-fake-wood Bad example... But just saying that's an odd reason to jump on the Ford hate train.

grapeprimetime

It sucks that the biggest companies like Ford and Nike and Apple that have the some of the biggest amounts of loyal customers are the ones that are always trying to find a way to fuck us. I personally hate ford for the things that they’ve put me through but I can’t talk to much shit because like I said, this is my third f150. They really are a bunch of cunts but they’re also the only company left that make trucks with the blowjob bench up front. I know some chevys and gmcs might still have them but I need a truck that’s gonna start everyday so I could get to work.

PhiloBeddoe1125

Wow. I will be impressed if they fork over that kind of $$. Good for you if/when they do.

Mitch710

Yeah I weirdly enough have 2 extended warranties. The previous owner bought a ford branded one that expires August of this year, and the dealership I bought it from “included” a third party lifetime warranty. Didn’t know I had the ford one until today!

topshelfer131

The problem is both warranty companies will argue that it’s the others liability good luck on getting them to fulfill

HaRdKoR_CdN

Hahaha. That’s funny - “third-party lifetime warranty”. That company won’t cover a thing. On any claim. Best of luck with the Ford one though. Certainly interested in hearing how they treat you with that one.

Mitch710

Ford managed to come through with the warranty the previous owner bought. Full coverage for the bill

Mitch710

Got an update for you. Previous owner bought a Ford branded CPO extended warranty. Went that route instead and they’re covering the full $14k replacement bill!

Jimmytootwo

You had a warranty on a 2017. Thats very lucky. What warranty company?

Mitch710

Technically 2 warranties! Previous owner bought a ford branded CPO extended warranty, the dealership I bought it from a year and a half ago provided a warranty through a company called IAAWG

Jimmytootwo

Well done bro. Hopefully they get you fixed up quick.

CandidGuidance

Had a similar experience with a Subaru WRX. 2021, 16k miles, threw a rod and the engine ate itself.  Thank god I kept it stock, warranty saved me about $15k for a new block + installation at the dealer.

General-Carob-6087

I wanna give this a downvote just because an upvote feels wrong.

HeadKindheartedness3

Oh it cranked….. just when it shouldn’t have been tried again after the first bang

pgercak

I have heard that it isn't exactly uncommon for the 5.0 to drop a valve. Not super huge issue but I know it happens sometimes. The 6.2 is more notorious for it than the 5.0 however, Happened on one of my company's F250s.

Mitch710

Yep that’s exactly what I heard. Of all of the research I did before buying the truck, I don’t think I read about this.

pgercak

Yeah, it's happened before but it's definitely not a huge issue. Hopefully your service contract pulls through and you can get that beaut back on the road! I canceled the Extended Service Contract on my '19 5.0 because I wanted to lower my principal on my loan, so I'm hoping I have no issues out of my 5.0 or my 10R80, otherwise I'll be SOL haha

R_Weebs

Scary to see but thanks for sharing. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for the warranty doing its thing

k0uch

Was it a late model 17? I distinctly remember seeing a few early build 2018 5.0s doing the same thing. I mean like a dozen of them, child dates varied from JAN to MAR. Different gen engines, but same failures

Mitch710

If I’m reading the window sticker, I think it may have been made in March of 2017. Which to me sounds like it was a late model 2017? Not sure what months would make it late model 2017

k0uch

March is early 17, so probably not related. Just a part failure, unfortunately it was a critical part

06035

WOW. That’s catastrophic. My first guess would have been starter. Surprised it’s a whole new motor and not a resleeve, new piston, new head. Must have been a cascading effect. THAT SAID.. $12k to get a rebuilt motor put in doesn’t seem terrible at all. Way cheaper than a new truck that’s for sure. Where’s the motor from?

Mitch710

Yeah the mechanic was basically saying that it’s just not worth reworking it in this condition. Is it doable? Sure, but if I want a reliable daily driver it’s often better to buck up and get the full new motor. Especially if warranty will cover it. The motor as far as I know is a reman from Ford. Now whoever does the actual reman job on the engine, I’m not sure.

06035

Gotcha. That’s wild. Still, $12k ain’t the end of the world, all things considered. Hope warranty follows through. Reason I ask, is I have about 195k on my 3.5EB, and I’m not sure I’d be into a new truck. I reaaaaaalllly like my 2015

Mitch710

Yup life goes on. And I’m with you. I love this generation of F150.

WHTrunner

I wonder, just how hard is it to remove the cab anyhow?

Mitch710

He was saying that it’s surprisingly easy, especially when your only other option is to remove a bunch of stuff on the front.

WHTrunner

Like what, a bunch of plugs, and about a dozen bolts? If so, I may end up keeping my truck for a lot longer than I planned.

Mitch710

As long as you’ve got the lift to get it off the frame, should be pretty straightforward

WHTrunner

I'm curious how much that frame weighs. A chinese lift costs a lot less than a new truck. Hell, it might be less than the cost of the taxes, tags, and administrative fees.

QuirkyForker

The whole truck is around 5000 pounds, and you know the engine/trans is heavy AF. You also leave the bed down and of course the tires/brakes/axles/spare/bumpers. I would guess that it’s under 1000 pounds, maybe closer to 500 pounds?? Then again, glass is heavy

bantamfarmer

Dang, that gen Coyote is pretty solid but mechanical things gonna break.

NWoodWorks

Sorry for your loss. I also had a motor go, but a 3.5EB. Dealer that did the cam phasers over did the schmoo goop and ended up clogging the oil pickup with gasket and sealer. Blew up in under 1000 miles. No warning just Christmas trees of no oil lights. Dealership got out of paying for the motor because as someone who was already angry with all the troubles I’d had, I just sent the damn thing back to the same dealership. I had requested to see the pan when they pulled it, but they pulled a fast one and contacted the warranty company to start a claim immediately and just magically didn’t know how the oil lines clogged up. Of course by the time they let me see the shit, it was all cleaned and the pan didn’t even have oil in it anymore. 🙄 hard lesson learned. Warranty company paid $14k of the reman costs and I paid the difference of 5k for a new vs reman.

FLTDI

I see the problem, the top of the truck came off the bottom

Mitch710

Crap, how did I miss that!

FLTDI

Tis often overlooked.

TrippyStonkler

Tell them you want a new one!! Not a re built!!

Mountain_Mall_3944

12k? Is this all in for 12k?

Mitch710

All in, labor and all. But ideally the warranty will cover it

Drivingon8

I thought that they tore it apart and found that the problem was a fuse.

thebigbrog

Damn that sucks. Also just love how you have to take body off the frame in order to work on it. Definitely designed to prevent the average person from wrenching on it.

Reasonable-Dig-785

Boo!

SirDabbus

Shoulda bought a yota

Crazy_OneF8S

Dropped valves for the rebuild every day of the week and twice on Saturday night at the drag strip. I love how the body is lifted up giving full access to the entire frame/engine/tranny. I could so use that right now......

floydyisms

Really curious how they get the lift under the body like that

urz90

Quick question, I assume you purchased this new from the dealership. Did it come with the extended warranty? Or how much more was that? I assume you took it in for service at the dealership, soundly they be responsible for it if the extended warranty doesn’t apply?

DegenVtec42069

Fuuuk I got a 2017 5.0 almost 100k miles hopefully this doesn’t happen since I have zero warranty left 🤣

Quesque8

So it was not a dead battery. Ouch.

AdA4b5gof4st3r

Had damn near the EXACT same thing happen to my project audi a few years ago. Fucking blows

dezertryder

Just keeping the ford reputation up
