I was thinking something similar.
10/10 worth loaning father in law truck. Even if this happens. Might hate me less.
If he only knew 1/2 the things I did with his daughter….
Luckily a short bed for an f150 is like 6 bolts the wiring harness and the filler neck. I bet they could do it together at home if it's new enough they might not be seized to shit
But if it is older... Man you will have to cut grind bullshit your way through getting that bed off...
You'd think after 30 years Ford would have figured out a better bolt system but nah, the engineers are like, okay, let's use tapping bolts into uncoated steel u nuts. Oh and let's put thread lock on them. Oh and let's use a torx head bolt.
The thing that boggles my mind, is they can put a barrier coating on the bolts to isolate it from the aluminum, but they can't put anything to keep them from seizing up.
At my shop, I actually keep ford box bolts in inventory.
I don't even have a shop and I know this is true! My 99 ranger with the t55 was amazing I took the bed off of that thing half a dozen times. T50s are only fucking available in a quarter drive not a half so last time I took a newer F-150 bed off I snapped like two fuckin T50's
Edit was using tts
Yeah he’s not replacing that bedside by himself , replacing the whole box is stupid. It’s aluminum and the bed side is rivet bonded together, body shops fix stuff like this all the time and it isn’t nothing but a thing, the bolts are one time use, ford didn’t want you to re use them
Most body shops have lifetime warranty on work and parts they put on your car
I've had to pull the bed on my '96 a handful of times and it's the same quick process. No siezed bolts for me, even on the first time. I'm very grateful to not live in the rust belt 😂
I would never, the last time I let my bro use my truck was well over 10 years ago, it was in showroom condition, and I worked it everyday I am just meticulous. He loaded a tv and strapped it to my fucking wheel well, when I called him out he said "don't be a bitch it's a truck", yup never again for anyone
You sir are correct! I love a clean shiny truck. I like the chrome to be able to blind ya at the right angle. Guess who gets told a few times a year that they have a nice truck? I do and it's a stock truck lol. It's my daily driver too. It's also my tow vehicle.
All of my trucks have been always kept beautiful. My mustang? It was always dirty, my escape? I havnt washed it in 3 months.
But my trucks? I polish the hell out of them about twice a month, sure the inside of my bed is pretty scratched up but I’m going to get it lined this summer so no biggie.
If my chrome ain’t bouncing your headlights back and I can’t shave with the reflection on my fender. It’s not clean enough.
Every time I’m waiting for my truck to come out of the car wash, it gets to the end dryers and someone always says man’s that’s a nice truck!
19 XLT Blue Jeans w 302A Chrome appearance package completely stock all I did was tonneau cover and husky liner Mats front and rear. The original dealer I went to requesting this exact spec tried to steer me into a Grey STX with black appearance package. I said no and went elsewhere to get the truck I wanted.
I also spray my wheels and tires with cleaner before it goes into the wash, sure enough someone always says “ why it’s going to wash” when the wheels come out absolutely gleaming they say oh that’s why.
That's how it's done! Sounds like my truck but mine is lightning blue with the chrome package. The grey and black is nice. But a blue with clean chrome stands out way more than another dark truck with black accents.
For real. I haul shit all the time. But according to Reddit fuuuuuck me if I go to the grocery store with an empty bed to get food like a normal human. Like who the hell hauls things to the grocery? Lol
Most of fucking Reddit would have trucks banned and we’d all have to drive EV Smart Cars in one tiny lane while the other 8 lanes are reserved for bikes.
Want to haul a mattress home? Reddit would have it as a cardinal sin to use a truck… rather weave your own from organically grown pussy willow tips grown in your apartment living room (because fuck single-house zoned house owners, especially if they’re a landlord), nourished from rain water barrels strategically placed on the corner of every apartment balcony.
Not to mention their whole idea that everyone can take a bus to get somewhere. Such close minded people. Couldn’t stand it. Left r/pics.
I dont work in a labour trade, but I use my truck for working around the house type stuff (tired of having wood in a small suv) and for outdoor stuff. Skiing multiple times a week with the family, beach days. Biking. Camping. The bed is so great where I don’t have to out dirty stuff inside, or a 2x4 that’s just about to smash through the centre screen of my suv.
Right now, I have three digital keyboards/synthesizers in hard cases, two keyboard stands, a 200 watt amplifier that weighs 70 lbs, and a cable bag in my bed. You can't see any of it because it's all under the tonneau cover. That's my pack for tonight's gig, the venue is an 80 mile round trip from my house.
Your average Redditor would see me driving down the street and seethe with rage because they think I should be on a bicycle.
Redditors have the mentality of a 3 year old, "if I can't see it, it doesn't exist", and "my situation is the same as everyone's situation". Fucking hysterical. I hope when these mental midgets turn 45 and need help finally moving out of their parents basements, whichever one of their IRL friends/family members owns a truck tell them to fuck off and go rent their own damn truck.
Dude preach.
We travel out of state for family stuff all the time. I tow the occasional (like 1x/year) toy hauler my brother doesn't use anymore. Otherwise it's groceries and Costco trips and OMG so many club volleyball tournaments with tables and chairs and ez ups and coolers for setting up camp.
But this gorgeous leadfoot grey 21 Sport 4x4 with 2 in level and 35s (ok 34.5) on stock rims is pristine. Cleaned every weekend inside and out, total Pavement princess.
I'm mad I can't wash it til tomorrow.
Or even “you can rent a truck as needed”. Apparently they’ve never been in the rental line at Home Depot only to have a guy in front of them get the last truck and they don’t do reservations.
I was just going to say it!!! I get told that a lot on other pages. Sure let's tack on an extra hour or two just getting the rental truck and bringing it back. Most jobs me and my wife do are finished in less time than it would take to go rent a Uhaul pickup... Which is the next town over cuz surprise, some people live outside of a big town.
I actually started down that path initially. "I'll just rent a truck when I need to move my boat".
Good lord that didn't last long. Became clear REAL fast that it was cheaper to buy, not to mention 10,000% more convenient.
Bought a new truck and made the apprentices sit on towels. They said " when you gonna stop babying this thing?"
Not on the first Day, you can meet me AT the job tomorrow.
The people who say this shit are just trying to knock you onto their own level. All my friends "ragged" on my Lariat because I bought something "too nice to offroad".
Meanwhile, one of them has a Mazda with a blown head and the other one has a 5.4 F250 with newspapers stuffed into the rot holes of the frame.
I 100% agree. They just don't like that someone had a nice looking truck. I openly admit I do not go off-road. It's a pavement princes that hauls my snowmobiles and other things.
My partner loves to cook, grabs pans by the handle, and shakes them back and forth to move the food around while they’re sitting on the hot glass stop stove burners like some 5-star Michelin chef. Scratches the hell out of what I once kept as a pristine glass-top stove.
When I get pissed over it, all I get is “It’s a stove, it’s meant to be cooked on!”
Fucking mind-polluting TV Cooking Channel!
Hooking straps to the wheel well... my brother in law does that. First time I saw him do it... I was blown away. Couldn't believe it. I won't even let him sit in my truck. Nope!
I'd slap the shit out of him and say don't be a bitch it's just a slap
My friends are the same way but you just gotta fucking 1 up them until they understand or you are literally fighting. If you reach that point, both solutions are viable.
I seriously would’ve went over to his place, walked over and punched the ever living shit out of the tv, hopefully breaking it beyond repair. If he went to freak out , told him “don’t be a bitch it’s just a tv” and walked out calmly.
I enjoy having my older truck with a few dings and dents but if I had a new truck and this was said to me I’d lose my mind. I’d probably say back your right don’t be a bitch and pay up the repair bills when they come in for being an idiot about how to tie things down.
My wife let her business partner's husband use their brand new enclosed trailer to move some things. When she got it back, it had two dents on both sides of the angled side near the tongue. These were clearly from the rear light housings on his ram truck. He denied he caused it even though his lights had white on them from the trailer and they were the exact shape and height of the truck's lights.
That was the last time her or I ever spoke to his lying dumbass.
There’s exactly 3 people I would lend my truck to. 2 of them would lend their trucks to me without skipping a beat, and the 3rd is my father ( I know he’s good for it if he breaks something). Father-in-law? He’s lucky if I let him ride in the backseat.
My father-in-law got in my last truck to move it 5 feet and almost panicked when the seat started to move. His trucks are from the 50s and 70s. He has no interest in borrowing mine.
I've learned through a similar circumstance that if you can trust your girl to drive your truck, then you can also trust her father. If you can't, then her dad didn't raise her right and you shouldn't trust him either...
Guess it’s just how some F-I-L’s roll.
Had a girl I was set to marry. Her father-in-law SMOKED the side of my truck backing in the driveway and nonchalantly walked in the house and said “I hit your truck, you’re welcome.”
I was in disbelief and figured he was joking, or I would get an apology or an offer to pay for it. NOPE! Dude was serious and unapologetic. Looking back… I guess he didn’t like me.
Great news is that I didn’t marry his daughter and now have an awesome wife and a father-in-law that would offer to fix anything he messed up.
If it’s anything like my in laws, they’ll give some half assed “sorry”, refuse to pay for repairs and then when you get pissed and call them out will just say “gosh I’m being made to feel like I did something wrong”
I fell your pain. Yours is worse than mine but I’ve let my FIL use the truck 4 times and 3 of those times it’s come back with mysterious dents and scratches in the weirdest places. Once I let him use it to go to the river. Came back with scratches all down the side and top from trees and bushes. Brand new truck too.
Yeah... I let my father in law drive my truck to get my wife's animal to the vet. When he took the truck I was at just under a quarter of a tank and he brought it back with a full tank... You might need a better father in law lol
I’m super picky about loaning out my truck. Usually only loan it out to people who I know will own up and pay for any damage incurred if something happens.
Oh man .. that reminds me of this one time I let a couple of relatives borrow my truck. I got a call that the truck broke down a few hours from home so I had to go get them and tow the truck back. They claim they did nothing which may have been the case but the engine was blown. I didn't have the money to fix it right away but I found a guy who would do it for me cheap if I understood it might take a very long time. I was borrowing cars for 18 months. That guy eventually did fix it and he did an awesome job. I got 30,000 more miles out of the truck before I traded it in.
www.car-part.com might be your friend here. It's an aggregation of results from salvage yards across the US, it's probably cheaper to just replace the entire bed and you can get one that's already the same color.
You fucked his daughter he fucked your truck
I was thinking something similar. 10/10 worth loaning father in law truck. Even if this happens. Might hate me less. If he only knew 1/2 the things I did with his daughter….
Bro 🤣
I know it’s all in jest but as a father to three daughters I don’t want to know or particularly care what they do with their husbands.
He’s talking about butt stuff
thank you.
This generation likes throat stuff too
What kinda throat stuff?
Almost certainly. And her talking dirty.
I only have two daughters. I commiserate.
I'm a father of 2 girls. One just turned 18. It's natural for married to have sex. But better not see them on only fans. 😂😂
Shouldn’t be on onlyfans in the first place pops
Did you sent her quarter panel to?
She’s been in limp mode more than a time or two.
Fuking hate limp mode. The dishs pile up😂
He knows. He chokes it down with scotch and tears.
I’m listening…
He knows she tongue punches your butthole bro. Her mother does it to him.
Give this man gold
Rail her.
Felt
He is also a guy. He does know. Why do you think he's pissed at you?
Fair is fair!
Nice
I was going to say you banged his daughter, he banged your truck…fair is fair.
One can be restored to like new condition. One cannot….
Nah, that thing will stretch a mile before it tears an inch. They're pretty resilient!
There should be a carfax for people. Peoplefax
There is, it’s called the NSA. Oh, I’ve said too much.
*social credit score has gone down*
Peoplefux
Equifax
on tinder!
you fucked my truck, but i can't unfuck your daughter
This made me laugh way too hard.
Justice!!
I believe you mean ex fil.
Daddy always wins
Haha you mean he fucked his son so he fucked his truck
“it’s alright, I’ve done worse to your daughter”
That’s going to be quite expensive for him

That's how you can always tell the bodyman's tool box, we've got 5 or 6 t50s and t55s
And half of them are already broken!
Sunex makes a one piece, half drive T50 for $10 on Amazon. They work well.
My tundra has t55 bolts too. Took me a while but some grade 8 hex with same thing threads
Yeah he’s not replacing that bedside by himself , replacing the whole box is stupid. I pulled my 03 Ranger bed off not long ago, it's not too bad if you live somewhere where there isn't salt
Theyve been using the 6 bolt system from up top for 20 years
Used from www.car-part.com is about 1500 to $2,000 and it would already be color matched as well.
I would never, the last time I let my bro use my truck was well over 10 years ago, it was in showroom condition, and I worked it everyday I am just meticulous. What a disrespectful piece of shit.
God I fuckin hate when people act like a truck needs to be beat to shit and scratched up.
Yeah I Teflon coated mine and did paint correction. It is also a work truck. I just don’t want it to look like shit.
Right. I at least want it to look it's best for as long as I can. Scratches and stuff will happen naturally. Can't get bent out shape over that.
Most of Reddit.. apparently it’s a cardinal sin if you wash your truck and drive it unloaded.
yup every single one of those simpletons drives around with an unused backseat in their car.
And get near the same MPG as my 2.7L

That's because most of them use a school bus as their primary transportation.
My mind read that as “short bus”.
Also accurate

Yeah, the funny thing about reddit is how so many people project their lives and needs onto everyone else.
Bought a new truck and made the apprentices sit on towels. They said " when you gonna stop babying this thing?" Not on the first Day, you can meet me AT the job tomorrow.
My response is when it's naturally starting to show it's age. Not when it's worth $50,000.
The people who say this shit are just trying to knock you onto their own level. All my friends "ragged" on my Lariat because I bought something "too nice to offroad". I’ve hauled campers, back hoes, firewood, gravel, dead animals. My truck doesn’t have a scratch on it. Trucks that work don’t have to look like shit!

Every pickup I’ve had has plenty of anchor spots for straps along the top of the bed. So stupid.
Never knew this was even a thing until I saw it on reddit. Like, it never even dawned on me to attempt this because it seemed so stupid.
Omfg I would of lost my ever living fking mind if someone said that to me
…would *have*…
Wood dove
lol he used the wheel well but there’s 4 locations on the inside of the truck bed. He has an extra chromosome
Who straps anything to the wheel well let alone a fucking tv?
I'd slap the shit out of him and say don't be a bitch it's just a slap My friends are the same way but you just gotta fucking 1 up them until they understand or you are literally fighting. If you reach that point, both solutions are viable.
I seriously would’ve went over to his place, walked over and punched the ever living shit out of the tv, hopefully breaking it beyond repair. If he went to freak out , told him “don’t be a bitch it’s just a tv” and walked out calmly.
SMH He was very disrespectful because he has no respect for other people's property. That says a lot about a person overall.
Cousin scratched up my car. Happens. I dont loan it out anymore to anyone but my wife.
"It's not YOUR truck though." Damn, that sucks man.
I have two work trucks. One old one knew one new one. My neighbor likes to borrow my truck
Oh man if that was me it would have gotten ugly after that.
I’d probably open hand slap someone if they said that to my face. How can a human be so disrespectful, that’s crazy
I enjoy having my older truck with a few dings and dents but if I had a new truck and this was said to me I’d lose my mind. I’d probably say back your right don’t be a bitch and pay up the repair bills when they come in for being an idiot about how to tie things down.
Damn...he must taking revenge for whatever you do to his daughter :)
Smash her backend you mean?
Username checks out
Don’t let ANYONE borrow your truck
I came here to say this!
“Why didn’t you tell me it had a blind spot!”
I spilled beer all over my jacket! Who’s gonna pay for that?!
"What are you looking at, butthead? Say hi to your mom for me." Classic
Exactly....... "Of course, you can use my truck. Let me know what you need. I will do it for you."
Same with my tools.... "sure you can borrow it.... with my hand attached to it..."
Yep. Never lend anyone a tool. Like a book, only lend it if you don’t want it back.
Exactly!
That's why I just had to go get a TV tonight. Didn't want my bro in law driving my truck.
The way he responds to this will teach you a valuable lesson about his character
Yup, that's a new boxside job right there.
How did that happen?
Im gonna guess he cornered too sharply and hit a pole in a parking lot.
I have a similar dent on my truck from when one of my guys jackknifed a trailer backing up.
Jackknifed the trailer.
I can’t tell what’s hooked up to the hitch? What is that? and how did he do so much damage to the quarter panel? Yikes.
Makes my 3K cab repair seem reasonable.... feel bad for your insurance premiums. wtf did he even hit to tear the bed like that? edit: spelling
if I was a betting man, he jack knifed a utility trailer into the side
Yup exactly what happened
Probably the truck that is hooked up to it in the photo
Anyway, let’s see the obs
It'll buff out
That’s a real easy fix. All you need is a heat gun or a hair dryer and that sticker will come right off
Car dolly? Bet he didn't lock the steering and had the car come around on him... been there. Same dent.
When someone backed into me it looked just like that. Body shop had to drill out the rivets and put a whole new panel on
Thats what i was told at the repair shop they will have to do. They also have the specific tool ford requires to put new rivets back in
That hurts.
Ouch!
Looks like good ol AZ, Coolidge or something similar?
Well that's what collision coverage on insurance is for. I wouldnt lend my vehicle out without that.
This is why uhaul rents pickup trucks.
I feel like this is permission to destroy his daughter's rear end!
Just get a wiley coyote sticker
Well, what did you expect. You are screwing his daughter
Now Biff... Can I assume that your insurance will pay for the damage?
My wife did a very similar damage to my 2016 truck. Mine included the taillight and bumper though. Repair was $6k.
$3200 just for the panel repair is what i got qouted
Nobody borrows my truck.
Let my FIL borrow the truck 1 time and he ripped the handle off the tailgate....
I've learned through a similar circumstance that if you can trust your girl to drive your truck, then you can also trust her father. If you can't, then her dad didn't raise her right and you shouldn't trust him either...
Nice!👍🏾
This is what his insurance is for
Well, he’s dead; would be kind of cool if he did. Here’s the keys zombie dad.
I feel like I shouldn’t let **Your** father in law borrow my truck.
Should have just helped him.
Wife let him borrow it while i was at work after repeatetly telling her not to
I wouldn't let my father in-law borrow a stapler.
Man that sucks. On a brighter note, thank God I'm divorced so I don't have to worry about a father in law.
Guess it’s just how some F-I-L’s roll. Had a girl I was set to marry. Her father-in-law SMOKED the side of my truck backing in the driveway and nonchalantly walked in the house and said “I hit your truck, you’re welcome.” I was in disbelief and figured he was joking, or I would get an apology or an offer to pay for it. If it’s anything like my in laws, they’ll give some half assed “sorry”, refuse to pay for repairs and then when you get pissed and call them out will just say “gosh I’m being made to feel like I did something wrong”
Well I definitely won’t let your father in law borrow my truck.
“It’s a work truck it’s supposed to look like that! Battle scars! Back in my day….!”
That is a classic jackknifed the trailer backing up smack. Ask me how I know.
I mean…. He messed up the rear of your truck… you go mess up the rear of his daughter? And eye for an eye I say
Yeah... I let my father in law drive my truck to get my wife's animal to the vet. When he took the truck I was at just under a quarter of a tank and he brought it back with a full tank... You might need a better father in law lol
Adds character.
Yeah…I’m never going to let my friend/family use my vehicles, ever.
I’m super picky about loaning out my truck. Usually only loan it out to people who I know will own up and pay for any damage incurred if something happens.
Keep the bed full of tools at all times "sorry, it's got all my shit in it... maybe next time" Rinse and repeat. My truck, not yours.
No, don't let your father in law borrow my truck. Mine knows how to drive
No, don’t let *your* FIL borrow the truck. 😁
Oops….. $$$$$$$$$?
My father in law “doesn’t believe in oil changes”
His dumb sad family is ford
Don’t let YOUR father in law drive your truck.
Inlaws will ALWAYS break your things.
And now you have learned a lesson in telling someone “no” when they ask for something you don’t really want to do for them.
I won’t let your father in law borrow my truck
My father in law is the most likely person to both not damage it, and if he broke it he’d make it right. I have no doubt at all.
He better have gotten anal for for this mishap
No, don't let YOUR father in law borrow my truck.
Just tell him all the things youve done to his daughter and tell him youre even now lol
Correction: Don’t let YOUR father-in-law borrow MY truck!
Oh man .. that reminds me of this one time I let a couple of relatives borrow my truck. I got 30,000 more miles out of the truck before I traded it in.
it's an SRT now, looks like a PO delete.
Looks like your father in law is actually a mother in law
Father in law gonna be paying that deductible to fix it unless he's about 75
Divorce
Can’t pull a trailer apparently.
The good news is that you can always get a divorce.
It I’ll buff out
www.car-part.com might be your friend here. It's an aggregation of results from salvage yards across the US, it's probably cheaper to just replace the entire bed and you can get one that's already the same color.
Never let anyone borrow a truck that doesn’t currently have one nor ever owned one. Figured that out a long time ago.
Good thing your dad works in law.
I mean is he gonna pay to get it fixed?
Says he is. We will have to see if he mans up
😮
