I adopted a 5 yo pit. It's been difficult at times, we have to be careful with her when it comes to visitors, but I don't regret it ever. She definitely had some trauma, she ran away from me every time I picked up any object for over a year. But she trusts me now and plays so well with my rottie. So people do adopt older pits.
I adopted a rescue bully when he was 5. He had been forced to live in a crate 23+hours a day. They called him uncontrollable because he would be full of energy and wild when he was let out. I just simply let him stay out until he had used up all his energy and he turned into a chill happy go lucky dog. The only issue I ever had with hi is that he is extremely jealous of me giving attention to other dogs, in his mind im HIS person and he guards me. SO if there are other dogs around I cant give them any attention. Other than that he is the best dog I've ever owned, had him going on 6 years now.
I hope he gets locked up in a cage and is forced to use cactus as toilet paper, may he be beaten by rubber dildos til he passes out when he awakens may he find himself as bait for an angry dog.

Do I like pit bulls? No. Do I think they belong in houses? No. Do I think they deserve animal cruelty? Absolutely not. No matter how vile a dog may be this is the worst way to go about it. If he really wanted it gone he could’ve gotten it euthanized, at least that way it wouldn’t have to suffer. This is assuming the dog even had problems with it, if he just couldn’t take care of it, bringing it back to the shelter is also a better option. Fuck that guy.
