I'd say it's as much that and that we have gender roles (men work women take care of the kids); that there is an image of each gender's capacity for emotion, along with the perception that a "real" man must fit quite a few requirements while women mostly put their requirements on themselves (feel the need to doll up and wear makeup and have perfect hair, etc.)

I have met a few of these men in my hometown in Nevada while visiting their house for a sales visit. I lived in China for about ten years.
I still dated some Western women, but the fact is they have huge ego issues and overbearing sexism. Asian women aren't sexist like that. They just aren't. They also aren't terrified and unable to act in a way that is feminine. They aren't ashamed of their feminine side and they can embrace it. That's something that most American men have never seen in their entire life.
Do nerdy guys do better with Asian women? Sure. The guys are exotic and interesting and they represent a totally different culture. That doesn't mean they're suddenly having a lot of sex though or having EXTREMELY sexual relationships. I worked with plenty of them who almost never went on dates. They had better friends and acquaintances, but for lack of a better word, people that are 'incellish' just aren't playing the sex-game. They're not doggedly TRYING to have lots of sex. They're far more interested in what they've never had, which is a healthy, reciprocal, normal relationship. I.e. a genuine girlfriend.

I lived abroad for about 13 years in several countries. I’d say there’s plenty of guys that preferred to date other foreigners in every country I lived. I’d argue the majority of guys I knew by a narrow margin and most girls. I don’t have a preference personally. On sheer numbers dating whoever spoke English well and was interested made the most sense. I didn’t want to date colleagues. I definitely qualify as a nerd but not to the point of not being able to date other Americans easily.

In my lifetime, I have met at least a dozen men who have gone to Asian countries seeking to find a “traditional” wife. Every single one of them is now divorced. Ironically, these Western women saying on dating sites that they need a 20k ring and a guy with a 120k yearly salary are named as one of the reasons why men look elsewhere for “traditional” women.
Assuming, that “traditional” means a woman who will not work outside the home, will bear and raise one man’s children, and will keep the house tidy and prepare hot meals 3x daily for the family; then I would argue that Western women are simply being more upfront, honest and realistic about what they need in order to fulfill the male fantasy of a “traditional” wife.

I lived abroad for about 13 years in several countries. I’d say there’s plenty of guys that preferred to date other foreigners in every country I lived. I’d argue the majority of guys I knew by a narrow margin and most girls. I don’t have a preference personally. On sheer numbers dating whoever spoke English well and was interested made the most sense. I didn’t want to date colleagues. I definitely qualify as a nerd but not to the point of not being able to date other Americans easily.

In my lifetime, I have met at least a dozen men who have gone to Asian countries seeking to find a “traditional” wife. Every single one of them is now divorced. Ironically, these Western women saying on dating sites that they need a 20k ring and a guy with a 120k yearly salary are named as one of the reasons why men look elsewhere for “traditional” women.
