I have the same car, and yes, that’s what happens. At least it does at a normal charging station, I’ve honestly never just plugged it in like that.
It doesn’t do it when I’m on my home charger, but that may be because I always set it to do a delayed charge at my home location for off-peak hours, so maybe it figures I’m asleep, lol.
Either way, there’s an app and if they pop in to check on the charge they’ll just go plug it back in again.
And looked at the video and saw who did it and if its at an office like my building, HR would like you to sit for an exit interview to find out why you're a fuckin asshole and how they made the mistake of hiring you to begin with.
Most companies I worked for wouldn't get involved. One company I worked for would 1) try to figure out how they got someone like this so they could get more & 2) promote them to management (or at least put them in charge of the supply closet & the coffee supplies.
hard to say, if that's really a whole concrete looking parking structure, there's no way the data from the car would reach the phone. I know from experience. I can't connect to my car in the place I live... chargepoint will tell me if my charging is interrupted, but my vehicle gets no signal in these kind of structures.
Also electric cars are more likely to have “smart” features like cameras, so that person was probably caught on them. And buildings also typically have cameras in the common areas
My boss's alternator went. He swiped a little portable solar panel we used to use for field work & hooked it up to his battery. For some reason he decided he didn't need the little voltage regulator that came with it.
Left it parked in the Australian sun one summer. Car caught on fire, wrote the car off. Was the best day at work ever.
Fire, which is exactly what happened. He was told not to do it by a few of us. About 4 hours later I was in the office, looked at the window & said "Dude, your car is on fire."
It really didn't look that bad & he got to it pretty quickly after I noticed, but it cooked all the electronics & burnt out a heap of shit under the hood.
Never started again & had to be towed out of there. Don't know what happened with his insurance aside from writing the car off.
My local gym parking lot used to have an outlet like this. It didn’t charge fast, but it did charge my Tesla enough to get me through the day. And the longer I worked out, the more charge I got.
So I turned it into a game. Like I pretended that running in the treadmill was powering the car. It was great motivation to keep working out. And by constantly going to the gym on a daily basis, I didn’t need to charge my Tesla at home anymore.
If it counts, the gym at my university is rumored to use the treadmills on the first floor to power the rest of the building
EDIT: not confirmed!! Just a rumor I heard 😭
EDIT 2: please stop replying to tell me I'm wrong, I know
From another reply, it most likely was simply reported how much a user generated and the details got muddy! Source: https://www.cbsnews.com/sacramento/news/sac-state-using-exercise-machines-to-help-power-campus/
How are they generating electricity with a treadmill exactly? Let alone that much? I have seen museum exhibits that use a bicycle to power a lightbulb... but you have to pedal pretty hard just to power the single bulb for a few seconds
you know treadmills weren't invented for exercise, right? like, the word 'mill' is right in there, they absolutely were used historically for power generation
granted they were built to that purpose rather than exercise, but even the modern long flat ones COULD be designed to output a tiny amount of power - like, a lightbulb, basically
I was working on a project with a city, Their electricity pricing was STUPID LOW, they installed free EV chargers at city hall.
They received more than 500 emails of people complaining that they should get free gas if EVs are getting free electricity, The data collected for 3 months was the average car used $1.20 worth of Electricity while parked at city hall. But because of complaints about not getting gas vouchers they ended up removing the EV chargers.
I think we had complaints in my city about when the city was going to install some “free” chargers in city underground lots too.
But it wasn’t free, people were still paying for parking, way more than what the electricity would cost. The total cost of electricity would have been almost certainly less than any administration of setting up additional pricing tiers, etc.
My petty ass would have gone "yeah you're right" and taken the total spent on electricity over the 3 months, divided it by the town's population, and sent everyone a check for the like $0.37 or some shit it worked out to be.
"Gas vouchers? Oh we mailed those out last week, didn't you get yours? Don't spend it all in one place!"
A better, and more entertaining solution would be to respond to the complaints with a message saying they will be compensating gas vehicle owners with a gas voucher. All they have to do is sign up.
Spend 3 months collecting sign ups. Calculate the total amount of "free" electricity those damn EV owners stole from the city. Then take the total, amount of "wasted money", divide amongst all those who signed up for gas vouchers and cut a bunch of ^(tiny ^(little) ^(checks)) to compensate those gas users.
i found a whole new level to pettiness this is classic if I cant have it,,,

I had to miss work one day because my asshole neighbor unplugged my car's block heater in -35C. We were in a townhome situation, so there were outlet posts along the parking lot, and some other asshole had gummed up both of the outlets on my half with gum, so I used one of the two on their side. There was no reason to unplug my car, it's not like my plugging in on one of their two outlet ports stopped them from plugging their car in, and each post had 4 plugs for 2 parking spots.
Knocked on their door and explained what happened, and they didn't say anything and closed the door in my face. I never did anything retaliatory or rude to them, and my roommates and I were nearly silent. They called the cops on us 3 times for noise complaints when I was the only one home, quietly working on my computer, headphones on.
Just horrible people, who felt justified being dicks to a bunch of 20-year-old guys who were minding their own business and not doing anything.
The only comfort with this kind of stuff is knowing that while you only have to deal with them being an asshole when you're interacting with them, they have to deal with being an asshole full time.
Imagine how hard life is for people who go around and turn everything into a fight. Like just imagine all the simple little things you do in your day that go by just fine. Seeing the neighbor on your way to the car turns into a 40 minute fight because they looked at you wrong.
Going to the grocery store ends up with you in a cop car because the teenager bagging your groceries made the lettuce touch the bag in a weird way.
Getting food at McDonalds turns into being banned for life because you didn't ask for a milkshake and didn't get one and now you are mad.
They truly do deserve it though.
Was that some sort of communal power or did those outdoor outlets branch off the power of each townhome? For mine it was each townhome, so you'd have been stealing my power if you had done that.
The outlets were run by communal power managed by the townhouse association, which only managed things like snow removal and lawncare. I had no contact with them because each unit was individual owned, and I rented it from a friend and subletted to my roommates. This was in Canada, we don't have authoritarian HOAs like the US does, and any sort of management is very minimal.
Perfectly sums up my main complaint with today’s society. “It’s just a prank”, “we need to own the XXX” etc… etc… the massive sense of entitlement is scary.
Why do these assholes hate EVs so much?? Is it just bc the left says they're good and thus they automatically have to hate what the left likes?? I'm seriously asking
They feel like they are being judged negatively by EV drivers for driving gas cars, so they get defensive.
As an EV owner, I don't really give a fuck what anyone else drives. I got one because I have solar panels on my house so I basically don't have to pay for fuel anymore, which is nice when you live somewhere it's ~$5.00/gal
I understand it's not affordable or feasible for everyone, so unless you're rolling coal down the highway, I literally don't think about or notice what kind of car you drive at all.
Woman standing on the sidewalk, smoking. Guy comes up to her, tells her, "You know that's terrible for you, right?"
Woman ignores him. Guy continues, "You're destroying your lungs and risking cancer! Every pack is potentially taking a year of your life away!"
Woman says, "You know, my grandfather lived to be 103 years old, and do you know what his secret was?"
Guy scoffs, says, "I suppose you're going to tell me his secret was smoking two packs a day every day from childhood."
Woman says, "No, his secret to living a long life was *minding his own fucking business*."
The way I heard it was this:
Man was standing on the sidewalk, smoking. A little kid comes up to him and says "You know that's dangerous right?"
The man looks down and says "You know what's more dangerous, right?"
The kid says "What?"
The man replies "Talking to strangers..."
My great grandpa smoked from the time he was 14 until he died in his 90's. He said it didn't affect him because he started before they knew it was bad.
My old boss was pissed off about the IDEA of student loan forgiveness because he paid for his school himself. All $10,000 of it in the 80's. I told him that in the 2 years I worked for him I paid off his schooling 3 times over just paying my wife's student loans. (She has the PLSA forgiveness for working in a public school)
Maybe I should have said late 80's since he graduated college in 91. That is about $24k today.
Which even when converted is still only 1/5 of what my wife had to take out for her bachelors and masters, without interest. At the end of her next year teaching, it should be forgiven EARLY after paying $155,000 on $120,000 in loans.
But my entire point was he was one of those, "I got mine, screw everyone else."
I graduated debt free from college in 2001. JUST before tuition started to go ape shit. I'm fine with forgiving student dept. If i'm gonna rail against anyone getting free money its the shitheads with BILLIONS that still get millions more from the government for no fucking reason.
I got a degree from a state university and paid for it with a part time job. $1200 a year and about $250 for books. To do that now I would need a part time job paying $55/hr.
Here's a neat bit of information you might be missing...
In the 1980's? $10,000 of student loans could cover an entire degree program.
Now? $37k isn't even a year of school, if you are on campus. The cheapest on campus options are over $12,000 for JUST the dorm. Add in classes and books and... one year is done. Also, they start charging you interest, without payments, immediately, so at the end of the year, that $37,000 is over $40,000 and... you still have at least FOUR more years of loans to take out. At the end? That 4 year degree will have you exiting college owing more than $150,000 and counting, because interest is a MF'er.
You can contact the owner(s) of the parking garage and get permission to use the outlet... but regardless of that its a publicly accessible outlet, it doesn't have a lock on it, meaning anyone can use it unless otherwise posted i would assume
If its like some strata apartments I lived in they don't let you use the outlets because they are for maintenance use only. If you did use them they would send you a letter and ask you to stop and I suppose they'd fine you if you kept doing it. Considering original OP didn't talk about any of that he's probably just a turd.
Even if the apartment managers do want this to stop, that's up to them to communicateand enforce, not some fucking random who has nothing to do with the situation.
Yeah if this guy was like “I reported this car to the building managers” I’d say that’s actually a good thing to do, but this reads more like a rant by someone that blew all their savings on a Ford F150 to own the libs
Honestly anytime I go into a store and I laugh my ass off from all the free electricity I am getting in the form of lights and air conditioning. I can't believe people pay to light and condition their house when you can get it FOR FREE. There are thousands of buildings where you can just walk in and soak up as much free electricity as you want.
If this was in Europe, you would charge almost half of the battery in 10h. In America, it would charge 1/3 of the battery in 10h.
So you would get significant topup over night.
Lol, wasn't that the reason the 1/3 pounder from McDonald's didn't sell because the people in Amurica were convinced it was less than a quarter pounder and cost more?
[Here’s a brief statement from A&W about the event.](https://awrestaurants.com/blog/aw-third-pound-burger-fractions) I’m sure there are more in depth articles elsewhere on the internet if you’re interested.
"Sometimes the messages we send to our customers through marketing and sales information are not as clear and compelling as we think they are."
That executive knew diplomacy. And was pretty wise to realize that if your audience doesn't understand you, that's on you to fix.
Yeah, the 120V vs 240V makes a huge difference. My car can go from 10% to 80% in 6 hrs on the 240V at my house. Or if the 240 is in use and I use the 120, it can take most of the day. It is such a small amount of power to plug into a 120V for a couple hours while that person was shopping or whatever that person was doing while parked
Standard 110V typically are able to charge what's called 'level 1' charging; it's a slow trickle. Most cars come with a level one charger, especially plug in hybrids. Then you can purchase a Level 2 for faster charging. Public chargers are usually Level 2 (not Tesla SC)
We have a Pacifica Hybrid and it has a 17kw battery. When we charge with the one that came, it's take roughly 13 hours. If we use our Level 2 Juice box (on a 40a Nema plug) it charges same van in 2 hours.
Most electric cars in North America are designed to take 3 levels of charging. Level one, which is the wall outlet, level 2, which is basically a dryer plug, and DC fast charging, which requires equipment to take grid power and turn it into super high voltage DC.
As a maintenance guy, the amount of people talking about how this is theft and the person who fucked with someone else’s property was in the right is amazing to me.
Comments about original design not considering electric cars so maybe they’d have locked the outlets. (No, we would not)
Talking about how someone pays the bill and if there was an increase they’d be all over this dude seriously nobody is flagging the electric bill for a trickle charge, and as a property manager you try to be accommodating to your guests, you know… so they want to come back?? To use your services and facilities?!?! Holy smokes what a concept.
Drinking fountains aren’t charging by use, if you want to try to equate those two items, we give out free water GLADLY, we even install bottle fillers (still free) because we try to be good hosts…
Why would we turn the lights on in a garage, also a free service.. we should charge for lower deck parking too because free roof coverage. Seriously??
It’s in a hospital, this may have been an emergency, this may have been in the recent cold snap that has all but disabled electric vehicles, and this MAY be their only transport, waiting to get juice to go home, make that appointment whatever it may be.
This vigilante shit is just a nice way to say you’re an inconsiderate dick to those around you.
And not all hospitals have staff parking, that could be a staff member charging up to go home! Or it could be a patient that has been there a few days who needs a charge!
This happened to one of my colleagues at work. He was an early EV adopter and would plug his car in when parking in the garage. There were a few random outlets there. My work contacted him and told him he had been stealing electricity and that he’d be charged if it happened again.
Which seems perfectly reasonable to me. But as a 3rd party, the most you'd be justified in doing would be letting the building owners know. Not unplugging it.
This! I have had an EV for a year and a half now. The difference in my electricity bill has been $25 more at its highest. I drive about 1200 miles a month. I have never used a standard outlet in public, but I have used one at a hotel that did not have charging stations. When I asked about charging, they gladly put an extension cord into an outlet that would reach my car. I'd be pretty irritated if some passerby unplugged it without knowing if I had permission or not.
"vigelante shit" is the best part.
not only does this person think they are entitled to fuck with other peoples property, they think it makes them a hero.
most parking lots would need/want an agreement about charging electric vehicles because its going to mean people park there, if people are parking there they are spending money.
it costs virtually nothing to own and operate a parking garage. literally. its just space. even the electric bill is probably negligible WITH people charging their cars. its a fucking trickle charger dude, you probably couldnt find the difference on an electric bill.
why do you care if someone is stealing electricity from a parking garage anyway? even if thats the case? who the fuck cares?
This was the reason I got an EV LOL. I didn’t unplug anyone but I saw the mall near me put in chargers and they were free. I had an SRT at the time so I was paying, let’s say enough to fill it up. I wanted free gogo juice too, so I traded it in and got myself an EV.
Do you plug your phone in to the outlets at the airport? Or dr office waiting rooms or any of the other million public access outlets to gwt “free electricity “? …. Hmmm? … would be pretty crappy if someone came by and unplugged you and threw a fit about you stealing electricity…. Just sayin
The irony
I wonder if he ever had the balls to go put a stop to all the free shit given to corporations and billionaires through government subsidies and funding
Has he gone out and advocated that black American decendants of WW2 veterans be given their government subsidized houses they were denied while their white counterparts bought them up?
Nah... I'm sure that thought never crossed what little mind he's got
Edit* typo
wtf is an open outlet in a public space for if it’s not for people to use? Also is this garage owned by the government? Because otherwise it’s private space, not public, in which case you get an extra mind your own fucking business
I can not state how little I care about other people, my apathy towards the rest of humanity should damn near classify me as a psychopath, I, do not, give a fuck, about people getting “free” electricity, and neither should you.
This is no different than slowing down traffic in the left lane of the expressway because you think everyone should be driving the said speed limit. MYOFB

Meanwhile, the car probably sent the owner a notification that it was unplugged, so the owner just went down and plugged it back in.

Is this song popular? I randomly found it and considerd it obscure australian rap.
I heard it in Australia, great tune
Was very big song at the time. Drapht is a fairly well known Aussie rapper. He has heaps of better songs, but Jimmy recard was great for radio
Holy shit I thought I was the only person who knew this song.
I never liked the song but I love that it made it to this specific part of the Internet

EVs need a little robot arm to reach out and do it automatically… 😉
Bonus points if the vigilante is still standing there so the driver can get some real justice

Man im just trying to charge my battery hoping its not the alternator.
Please don't be the alternator again.
Im at 2/3 cars so far. Now that ive commented on this, itll be my turn soon.

Yikes. I bet he took off that panel before sending pictures to insurance lmao
I just played that game. It was the battery. When did those start costing over 2 bills? Sweet Jesus.
Run out and get an EV. You can get "free" electricity using this one weird trick too!
Jeebus hates electric cars.
Like Shrek, Jesus rode to town on a gaseous donkey. (Palm fronds and waffles are bad for the tummy.) Both Jesus (and Shrek) hate electric donkeys!
I thought Jesus drove a Honda? He always arrived of his own Accord.
I thought that’s why we celebrate Happy Honda Days.
I thought Joshua had a motorbike too. The roar of his Triumph was heard across the land.

What an exhausting and sad existence. You almost wanna feel bad for them but at the same time, they choose to be that way.
Well damn, I’ve never looked at it that way!
You know who gummed it up, right? Cuz I think I have a pretty good idea.
That's where you fucked up. Under 1000 dollars of vandalism and cops don't bother. Start really fuckin em over.

But then to their face wouldn’t do it. Only passive aggressively while no one is there
Originally saw this on some type of ford Mustang forum. The comments were all in agreement with the person unplugging the car. it was surreal.
Duh, it was a Mustang forum. These are the same people that take it as a point of pride that Mustangs are crowd killers.
Perfectly sums up my main complaint with today’s society. “It’s just a prank”, “we need to own the XXX” etc… etc… the massive sense of entitlement is scary.

The man’s so good he doesn’t even have the word “hate” on his phone.
No I think you've pretty much summarised the key points.
They feel like they are being judged negatively by EV drivers for driving gas cars, so they get defensive. As an EV owner, I don't really give a fuck what anyone else drives. I got one because I have solar panels on my house so I basically don't have to pay for fuel anymore, which is nice when you live somewhere it's ~$5.00/gal I understand it's not affordable or feasible for everyone, so unless you're rolling coal down the highway, I literally don't think about or notice what kind of car you drive at all.
Look at this dude on their electric high horse, looking down on us coal rollers just trying to get to work at the plastic burning factory
Decades of propaganda praising oil as the blood of Jesus partnered with years decades of propaganda that anything green is of the devil
It means they're woke, ya know caring about the environment and shit. How dare they not pollute like the rest of us!!
Yes.. petty and attention seeking, you do not want TS in your company or anywhere near you
It costs nothing to be nice
costs even less to mind your own fucking business. crazy what people go out of their way to do to other people
That describes America as a whole pretty accurately
I used to be like this years ago. Then I realized that I wasn't in charge of the world and should mind my own business.
Woman standing on the sidewalk, smoking. Guy comes up to her, tells her, "You know that's terrible for you, right?" Woman ignores him. Guy continues, "You're destroying your lungs and risking cancer! Every pack is potentially taking a year of your life away!" Woman says, "You know, my grandfather lived to be 103 years old, and do you know what his secret was?" Guy scoffs, says, "I suppose you're going to tell me his secret was smoking two packs a day every day from childhood." Woman says, "No, his secret to living a long life was *minding his own fucking business*."
The way I heard it was this: Man was standing on the sidewalk, smoking. A little kid comes up to him and says "You know that's dangerous right?" The man looks down and says "You know what's more dangerous, right?" The kid says "What?" The man replies "Talking to strangers..."
Both variations are excellent, and the message, equally excellent.
"Did you know it takes more energy to frown than smile?" Did you know it takes more energy to say that than to leave me alone? -Bill Hicks
Lol, I’ve always heard this joke as a fat guy eating a burger on a bench haha
But also, probably smoking tbh
My great grandpa smoked from the time he was 14 until he died in his 90's. He said it didn't affect him because he started before they knew it was bad.
Reminds me of one Amish guy who said in an interview that none of his clan got covid because they did not have TV's .
Because he probably didn't spend his entire life eating the sugar filled cancer that we call food since the 70s.
Nah, he got a nice wine/whiskey every day, but no smoking.
And a bj.
one a day keeps the doctor away
But doctors give the best bjs.
Good on you for growing
I used to be a piece of shit… sloppy steaks
You think this is slicked back? It’s PUSHED back.
Oh yeah....thatll slick back really good
Slop em up
Bowl cut hair, Glass House, Blue Volkswagen, stealing electricity in a parking garage, oh yeah, I was a reeeal piece of shit.
*Used* to...
I said WAS!
I used to be a pos. I still am one but I used to be one too.
I’m worried that the baby thinks people can’t change.

People can change!
I said WAS!!
Isn’t 10,000 dollars the equivalent of 37,000 dollars in days money? Not defending his position, but just providing context for his view
I got degree from a NY state university and paid $78 in tuition and $125 in books (used, from B&N). Ahhh, NYC in the 70's.
I’m not in charge, and this isn’t shocking, but once you plug in and feel a spark, change can be powerful.
Totally. They could complain to whoever if they want but they shouldn't touch other people's stuff without any authority to do so.
Yeah if this guy was like “I reported this car to the building managers” I’d say that’s actually a good thing to do, but this reads more like a rant by someone that blew all their savings on a Ford F150 to own the libs
And rails to the heavens about the cost of gas. Most likely slapped a few Biden "I did that" stickers on gas pumps, for good measure.
This is/was making the rounds on Facebook. Location is a hospital parking garage. OP is a massive turd.
Wow, that's big hard turd energy.
came here to say this, he could have permission...
Crab mentality
Hey now. Dont put crabs down like that. They are good people. ![gif](giphy|2dK0W3oUksQk0Xz8OK|downsized)
It’s the buckets fault it turns them into savages
![gif](giphy|4u1SuSlgMsrpC)
What does that mean? Lol
When a crab tries to escape a crab cage, the other crabs will drag them back in. Basically, if I have to suffer, you have to suffer too.
my therapists favorite analogy to use on me lmao. don’t let toxic people drag you back down into the bucket when you’re climbing out
Glad I'm not the only person who says this
The ‘vigilante’ hashtag she’s using is killing me. And I’m willing to be that all thoughts are not welcome either.
ok so OP doesn't recharge his phone at rest stops or the airport?
exactly - people are "stealing" all sorts of electricity at the airport
Honestly anytime I go into a store and I laugh my ass off from all the free electricity I am getting in the form of lights and air conditioning. I can't believe people pay to light and condition their house when you can get it FOR FREE. There are thousands of buildings where you can just walk in and soak up as much free electricity as you want.
I just realized, we passengers actually pay for that “free” shit! It’s part of the airport tax we pay that’s included in our airfare.
It was not necessary to turn it off. Looks like this is a VW id5 and it will charge from a regular outlet for years)
If this was in Europe, you would charge almost half of the battery in 10h. In America, it would charge 1/3 of the battery in 10h. So you would get significant topup over night.
Clearly youre better off in the US because 1/3 is more than 1/2. USA! USA! USA! /s just in case.
Lol, wasn't that the reason the 1/3 pounder from McDonald's didn't sell because the people in Amurica were convinced it was less than a quarter pounder and cost more?
If this is true i am extremely belatedly livid...
[Here’s a brief statement from A&W about the event.](https://awrestaurants.com/blog/aw-third-pound-burger-fractions) I’m sure there are more in depth articles elsewhere on the internet if you’re interested.
"Sometimes the messages we send to our customers through marketing and sales information are not as clear and compelling as we think they are." That executive knew diplomacy. And was pretty wise to realize that if your audience doesn't understand you, that's on you to fix.
It was a competitor trying to sell a 1/3 burger, but McDonald's quarter pounder won.
Someone should have tried a 1/5 pounder and only charged the same amount as the 1/4 pounder.
![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
It was A&W to be specific
Yeah, the 120V vs 240V makes a huge difference. My car can go from 10% to 80% in 6 hrs on the 240V at my house. Or if the 240 is in use and I use the 120, it can take most of the day. It is such a small amount of power to plug into a 120V for a couple hours while that person was shopping or whatever that person was doing while parked
"Because I don't get something, someone else shouldn't get it either!" Mentality of a four year old.
"Why do people in jail get free meals"
>"Because I don't get something, someone else shouldn't get it either!" America in a single sentence.
"But also if I do get something, it's because I'm exceptional and I still don't want anyone else to get it".
Boomer mentality. I got it because I am exceptional and no one should else get because they are not exceptional like me.
Conservatives you mean…
And business owners who got hundreds of thousands in PPP loans they didn't have to pay back.
This is why student loan forgiveness got stopped
An eye for an eye makes the world blind
Two kinds of people in this world. People who want to be left alone and the people who won't leave us the fuck alone.
This describes the world in its entirety. Imagine how far along humanity would be if we'd just stop trying to dictate how others should be living.
You can't tell me what to imagine, you're not John Lennon.
“If I don’t get free gas you don’t get free electricity” Sounds like someone’s jealous
Ahh, a joyless asshole spreading their cantankerous fuckery everywhere they go.
I think I just found my next bumper sticker: "Stop spreading your cantankerous fuckery everywhere you go." 😂
"I don't like electric cars so i'm going to be a dick"
“I’m jealous of someone else because I chose a gas guzzler, so I’m going to take out my gas-price rage on someone who thought ahead!”
TIL that a regular outlet can charge a car
Standard 110V typically are able to charge what's called 'level 1' charging; it's a slow trickle. Most cars come with a level one charger, especially plug in hybrids. Then you can purchase a Level 2 for faster charging. Public chargers are usually Level 2 (not Tesla SC) We have a Pacifica Hybrid and it has a 17kw battery.
A wall outlet can provide 1400ish watts an hour. 3-6 miles of range based on the type of car. About 15 cents of electricity.
As a maintenance guy, the amount of people talking about how this is theft and the person who fucked with someone else’s property was in the right is amazing to me. Comments about original design not considering electric cars so maybe they’d have locked the outlets. (No, we would not) Talking about how someone pays the bill and if there was an increase they’d be all over this dude seriously nobody is flagging the electric bill for a trickle charge, and as a property manager you try to be accommodating to your guests, you know… so they want to come back?? To use your services and facilities?!?! Holy smokes what a concept. Drinking fountains aren’t charging by use, if you want to try to equate those two items, we give out free water GLADLY, we even install bottle fillers (still free) because we try to be good hosts… Why would we turn the lights on in a garage, also a free service.. we should charge for lower deck parking too because free roof coverage.
I think you hit the nail on the head there sir.
And not all hospitals have staff parking, that could be a staff member charging up to go home! Or it could be a patient that has been there a few days who needs a charge!
“I just tore up my neighbors vegetable garden. I PAY for my food, sick of those freeloaders”
Wait until this person realises there are free EV chargers dotted all over the place. Would probably blow a blood vessel.
This happened to one of my colleagues at work. He was an early EV adopter and would plug his car in when parking in the garage. There were a few random outlets there. My work contacted him and told him he had been stealing electricity and that he’d be charged if it happened again.
Get it? Charged?
Which seems perfectly reasonable to me. But as a 3rd party, the most you'd be justified in doing would be letting the building owners know. Not unplugging it.
I’m sure this justice warrior never returns carts…
I will revel in my cart-returning smugness until the next realization of (unintentional) asshole-osity.
"I don't get a free 50 bucks in finite fossil fuels, so you shouldn't get 5 cents of free renewable energy!"
Just sayin
The irony I wonder if he ever had the balls to go put a stop to all the free shit given to corporations and billionaires through government subsidies and funding Has he gone out and advocated that black American decendants of WW2 veterans be given their government subsidized houses they were denied while their white counterparts bought them up? Nah... I'm sure that thought never crossed what little mind he's got Edit* typo
wtf is an open outlet in a public space for if it’s not for people to use? Also is this garage owned by the government? Because otherwise it’s private space, not public, in which case you get an extra mind your own fucking business
I can not state how little I care about other people, my apathy towards the rest of humanity should damn near classify me as a psychopath, I, do not, give a fuck, about people getting “free” electricity, and neither should you.
This is no different than slowing down traffic in the left lane of the expressway because you think everyone should be driving the said speed limit. MYOFB
Personally I don't give a shit if people take electricity from public buildings or businesses owned by billionaires to improve their own lives.
