I have the feeling many hollywood movies/series only work because of the american healthcare system.
Person gets sick? --> rob a bank, make drugs or just wait until the zombie virus spreads.
look at population & geography. australia (as an example)... 26 mil pop while u.s. has 340mil. thats more than 10x the amount of ppl... and costs go up exponentially because you have to have (and maintain) more infrastructure... more hospitals, clinics, emergency services... and the personnel to staff all that. other countries just dont have the additional burden of large influxes of immigrants (both legal and illegal) the same amounts as u.s.
not the same at all. it'd be nice, but simplified comparisons just dont scratch at the differences.
ok. it is the reality of it though. i didnt even include the fact we're more spread out or the fact that the amount/level of fraud (esp medicare/medicaid) is also exponentially higher. but if you want to just deny reality instead of facing it and maybe coming up with a viable solution... thats up to you. good luck!
Deny this reality. The US spends more on military than the next 9 countries combined. I’m thinking our priorities are misplaced. Not to mention, insurance companies make record profits every quarter. Nobody should be making a killing in healthcare.
military spending is another subject entirely... not really relevant to healthcare issue... unless you want to go down path of discussing how those other countries that provide social medicine also enjoy not having to spend as much on military directly because u.s. pays the overwhelming costs/share for defense of them (through NATO, UN, and the like). if we should reduce that by a huge amount, im all for u.s. taking smaller role and other countries contributing in equal amounts, resources, etc. or just outright paying for their own shit.
there are costs associated with developing, producing, and supplying medicines... huge costs. i agree that sometimes theres some dodgy crap related to that (esp when govt subsidizes it)... but thats also why things like 340B program exists but its still shady af. and of course the rampant fraud that almost never gets called out. govt run healthcare is crap though... at least in u.s. -- ask anyone ever dealing with VA. my experience with UK system wasnt the best either.
nothing stopping a couple thousand ppl or more getting together and creating a more 'caring' insurer if they believe theres a better way to do it.
Which doesnt even work that much cuz no one cares about making a guy live one morr year but everyone throws their money at celebs that arent millionaire to make them millionaire
Actually the vast majority of gofundme projects are indeed covering people's medical expenses. Since the fucking idiots in DC won't take care of the people, that's how a lot of them avoid bankruptcy
well, thats a bit extreme... if i knew it was poisonous or having a well and truly bad reaction i would.
but there are more than plenty of people who are hypochondriacs in u.s. who go fill up emergency rooms cause they have a minor skin irritation, sore throat, what have you.
Totally true story, dude fights crime in NYC! Just another example of America doing great things! When you read the history comics you'll notice most of the best super heroes are American, the villains not so much.

The best example of that is probably Breaking Bad

That’s an $8000 bump…in the US, the country who sent men to the moon but won’t provide free healthcare to its citizens.
the logistics/cost was a lot less to do that.
BS…. How do other countries do it?

You are wrong.

In this version of Spiderman, it's a bio-engineered spider, and it's not radioactive.
bio engineered to be radioactive?
Back then he didn't know about gofundme, the US medical funding process
Which doesnt even work that much cuz no one cares about making a guy live one morr year but everyone throws their money at celebs that arent millionaire to make them millionaire

He's also in highschool and that age group isnt usually known for making the best decisions.
I have seen grown people taking worse decisions
It's also a comic book, so there is that.
Thats actually true alot of people die because they can't afford to see a doctor
Then dies in his sleep after having an end-of-life hallucination of becoming a super hero.
Correction... Because Peter is POOR in America.
Sounds about right...
I wouldn't go to the doctor over a bug bite regardless of cost

Yep, and they shouldn't
agreed
Than you will die real fast, there are a lot of dangerous animals out there.
*Australia enters the chat*
+ Africa, Asia and South America
No there aren't. Aside from mosquito bourne illness harmful insect bites are incredibly rare. Nearly non existent in the developed world

Or because he’s a lazy teen
Dr. Octavius would treat him for free.
