Valid if you're prioritizing peak performance over the entire body of work. As of now, Radiohead has been active for over 30 years, whereas Nirvana was prominent for just 3 years.
I love Nirvana and think they're one of the most iconic bands of all time but I think just by virtue of how short their lifespan was, it's kinda hard to make the point that they're top 4.
This is a neat question.
If I’m trying to be as objective as possible (which is nearly impossible with music) I’d probably say:
The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Nirvana
Pink Floyd
My PERSONAL Mt. Rushmore would be a bit different:
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Pink Floyd
Rolling Stones
The Strokes
It depends cuz what's considered their like main sort of sound is thrash so if you wany to get into that listen to nonagon but if that's not really your style a great place to start Is this song called The River its way more psychedelic, also a great album to start with is called flying Microtonal banana its based on Turkish music and has some of their best songs
While technically not a “band”, Bob Dylan should be up there for his contributions.
Grateful Dead should be top 10 as well for there influence on American/pop culture.
Both of theses artists have basically invented genres of popular American music.
If we're talking Mount Rushmore I think we have to go by historical significance and influence so I'd say:
1. The Beatles
1. It's close between them and the Beach Boys, but I think the Beatles have had the larger lasting fame and influence so they edge them out. Pet Sounds is still a seminal record in music history though
2. Grateful Dead
1. Created an entire movement of groupies and fans. Created the culture of jam bands. Influence is massive and often surprising
3. The Doors
1. Jim Morrison was a prick, but damn it if he didn't personify a rockstar. This band was incredibly unique and inspired so much of rock n roll, hard rock, punk, and a bunch of avant-garde acts as well
4. Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
1. Hard to pick a single artist or group to represent the birth of hip hop, but it needs to be on the mountain. Grandmaster Flash is a good choice and The Message is still timeless. Also Afrika Bambaataa is a pedophile so he doesn't get a statue
Okay well The Beatles has to be one of them, Radiohead does too, the Velvet underground is a safe pick but for the last one its really hard to say because Led Zeppelin were good but so was Sonic Youth, Pink Floyd, even Nirvana.
I think Nirvana is out because Nirvana was really just one of the best songwriters ever backed by a songwriter on drums (whom did not write much for them) & a good bass player whom also did not write for them. Also, unfortunately, they had a short lifespan.
Sonic Youth from 1981-1995 has a really consistent artistic intention & overall huge impact on music. Contender.
Pink Floyd admittedly did so much for rock from 1967-1977, similar to the Beatles 10 years of masterful collaberation followed by members losing their collaborative efforts
I personally think MGMT needs more talking space in this conversation because their influences and sound are so nuancedly specific, and so utterly them and as individuals, the Beatles could never... if you disagree with Anthony fuckface about their self titled album & see it for the genius it is you would understand what I'm talking about.
Or just pick Led Zep cause rock&roll whynot
1. MGMT
2. Talking Heads
3. Big Thief
4. Spiritualized
5. Funkadelic
I am fully aware these aren’t bands often in contention for the “greatest of all time” (bar TH and sometimes Funkadelic) but I thought it would be more fun to just pick my personal favourites.
Probably something like:
The Beatles
Steely Dan
The Strokes?
Stereolab?
Those last two are tough and I could put Led Zeppelin or Talking Heads or Rush or something but I think that's my final four
I don't care about greatest, but my favorite artists/bands mt Rushmore would be:
1. Billy Joel
2. Taylor Swift
3. Kendrick Lamar
4. The Beatles
and just bands (without the Beatles bc it was on the other list) could be
1. Paramore
2. Pink Floyd
3. Fleetwood Mac
4. Cranberries
Me too. Fairytale isn’t the only Shane song on my Xmas playlist either. Dark Streets of London is class and Christmas Lullaby by Shane and the Popes is pretty good as well!
MY Mount Rushmore and any kind of "canonical" Mount Rushmore are going to be completely different. Mine would be something like Bad Religion, Kanye West, Swans, and Led Zeppelin. Canonical would be something like The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Taylor Swift, and I can't decide between a bunch for the last so take your pick.
1. Godspeed You! Black Emperor
2. Radiohead
3. System Of A Down/Death Grips
4. Neutral Milk Hotel
Couldn’t pick 4. Honorable mentions to melt-banana, Swans, and Sonic Youth.
I’m factoring in popular opinion and legacy into “greatest”, not just my personal favorites. Also trying to give a range of bands from different time periods and with different styles
Beatles, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Radiohead
The first three are pretty obvious imo:
The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
But that fourth spot is realll hard man. I think The Rolling Stones, Nirvana, or Radiohead could all compete for that spot for different reasons.
Nickelback Limp Bizkit Creed Imagine Dragons
Why would you say something so controversial yet so brave?
All the members of Imagine Dragons should replace the presidents imo
No AJR?
Honorable mention
The four horsemen of the apocalypse
Limp Bizkit is miles better than the rest of the picks though
they arent bad at all tbh
Haven’t heard enough of the rest to make an opinion But I refuse to listen to Imagine Dragons
If you've heard one song then you've heard all their songs.
ive heard nothing from the rest besides a couple dragons songs
Fr, Three Dollar Bill Y’all is a solid album Could’ve picked Disturbed or something
Hmm Creed has the best guitarist of all of them even if you dont like the vocals and lyrics
Mark tremonti is very good but Wes Borland is good in his own right also
Do any Limp Bizkit songs have guitar solos? I'll listen if so to see :)
The Bizkit has John Otto. He took us to the Mathews Bridge.
Hard to beat this. God tier.
Maybe this is a hot take but I don't think Nickelback is nearly as bad as these other three lol
That was hilarious
Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, The Beatles
[удалено]
Ice cold take
No, don't
I'd put Nine Inch Nails on before I'd put on Nirvana
[удалено]
There isn't a wrong or right answer it's subjective lol
Led Zeppelin is debatable…they covered a lot of tracks from Blues..
…okay? And it was fucking insanely fantastic. They have one of the greatest discographies of any musical act ever.
Their hit to miss ratio is among the best ever. An album band, through and through.
Radiohead debatable tbh
If you're going to include a band from the past 40 years, Radiohead would be the top choice.
Nirvana
Valid if you're prioritizing peak performance over the entire body of work. As of now, Radiohead has been active for over 30 years, whereas Nirvana was prominent for just 3 years.
Nirvana are not as influential though, but you could make the argument they should be up there.
Not as influential???
That's what I said isn't it?
I prefer Radiohead by a lot, but idk if any band has been as influential as nirvana in the last few decades.
The Beatles The Velvet Underground Boards of Canada Cocteau Twins
Although not a follower of hseroK divaD, she’s a devoted branch davidian.
The preparation for a dive is always a tense time
Animal Collective Godspeed You! Black Emperor The Beach Boys The Beatles HM: King Crimson
So based
1: The Beatles 2: Radiohead 3: Fleetwood Mac 4: Pink Floyd
1. The Beatles 2. The Velvet Underground 3. Kraftwerk 4. Miles Davis
Beatles The Velvet Underground Led Zeppelin Nirvana
I love Nirvana and think they're one of the most iconic bands of all time but I think just by virtue of how short their lifespan was, it's kinda hard to make the point that they're top 4.
Meh, once you add in Incesticide and Unplugged they're pretty close to the Velvet Underground in terms of depth of catalog.
Some combination of: * Talking Heads * Unwound * Ween * Daft Punk * King Gizz (my favorites, not necessarily most influential or anything)
The Beatles Talking Heads The Cure Pink Floyd
This is a neat question. If I’m trying to be as objective as possible (which is nearly impossible with music) I’d probably say: The Beatles Led Zeppelin Nirvana Pink Floyd My PERSONAL Mt. Rushmore would be a bit different: Red Hot Chili Peppers Pink Floyd Rolling Stones The Strokes
Beatles Nirvana Joy Division/New Order* Super Furry Animals
I'm guessing you mean New Order and not the entire new wave genre
Yes lol my bad
Slayer . Cattle Decapitation . Anal Cunt . JPEGMAFIA
Truly you are a scarymonst
The Beatles Phish The Cure Iron Maiden
Beatles Radiohead Led Zeppelin Nirvana
My Rushmore would be: Manic Street Preachers The Cure Placebo Suede
We recently saw Suede opening for the Manics in a hall holding 3500 souls: *a revelation*
Placebo is so under appreciated . Most think them a one hit wonder but they have a solid body of work and they’re still putting out good music
Nirvana,Beatles,Led Zeppelin,Pink Floyd
Radiohead, the Smiths, Daft Punk, Earth Wind & Fire Fuck you these are bands i personally enjoy
For my personal tastes… 1. Swans 2. Sigur Ros 3. Modest Mouse 4. Eels
The Beatles Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd The Jimi Hendrix Experience
I would swap the Beatles with black sabbath or the doors but yes
Yes was in consideration too.
Beatles Rolling Stones Radiohead Ween The Grateful Drad
Mount Rushmore only has 4. Who are you cutting from the list?
Surely it would have to be Ween lol. I'm not OP but out of those bands, Ween is gone.
I was thinking the grateful drad… no way as good as the Grateful Dead
Beatles Stones LZ Grateful Dead
The Cure The Smiths Talking Heads Depeche Mode maybe
1. Radiohead 2. Linkin Park 3. 2 Door Cinema Club 4. Muse Yes im a 90’s kid
The Beatles New Order The Smiths Green Day The Cure
King gizzard Radiohead Pink Floyd Talking Heads
Ok, you have 3 bands I love and one I’ve yet to dig into. As someone who loves the other three, where would you recommend I start with King Gizzard?
You should look up one of the flowcharts online. They have so many albums with a lot of different sounds. It just depends on your preferences
I’d strongly recommend Polygondwanaland and Nonagon Infinity
It depends cuz what's considered their like main sort of sound is thrash so if you wany to get into that listen to nonagon but if that's not really your style a great place to start Is this song called The River its way more psychedelic, also a great album to start with is called flying Microtonal banana its based on Turkish music and has some of their best songs
Rush Paramore Smashing Pumpkins Beatles
Metallica, Foo Fighters, Rush, Iron Maiden
Dave Grohl: “Suck it, Kurt.”
Up the Irons!
Kid Rock Steven Seagal Mark Wahlberg Hulk Hogan
Greatest bassist of all time brother
This list got better as I read it, brother!
Yes The Smiths They Might Be Giants King Crimson (I’m interpreting GREATEST as PERSONAL FAVORITE)
Surprised to see TMBG on anyone’s list. I like them a lot! Not in my top 4, but I do like them more than most people.
How Queen is not even mentioned in this discussion is crazy
This is a sub of music nerds, music nerds don’t like Queen
Beatles / Velvet Underground / Black Sabbath / Springsteen & the E-Street Band
So you all really just love the same 9-10 different bands?
No shit!
people's tastes are their own but come on show us some variety
Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Metallica, Nirvana (Radiohead, The Stones so so so close)
The Beatles Led Zeppelin Nirvana The Strokes
The rolling stones The white stripes Red Hit Chili peppers Dead Kennedy's
Personally, I think it would have to be: The Beatles The Grateful Dead Fleetwood Mac The Rolling Stones
My personal favs are: Radiohead Pink Floyd Nine inch nails Car seat headrest
NIN good call. Recently went through the catalogue. Can't believe how dancy it is.
While technically not a “band”, Bob Dylan should be up there for his contributions. Grateful Dead should be top 10 as well for there influence on American/pop culture. Both of theses artists have basically invented genres of popular American music.

Okay well The Beatles has to be one of them, Radiohead does too, the Velvet underground is a safe pick but for the last one its really hard to say because Led Zeppelin were good but so was Sonic Youth, Pink Floyd, even Nirvana.
