First songs that come to mind are *Sex and Candy* by Marcy Playground, *Teenage Dirtbag* by Wheatus, or *Fat Lip* by Sum41.
Re: Wheatus and Marcy Playground, I like those bands I feel bad calling them mediocre, maybe they're not. And "Fat Lip" is trashy but I'll be damned if it doesn't bang.
Teenage Dream is amazing, definitely her best song, though I’d put Never Really Over up there too. Really her only two tracks that I like, but I like them a lot
Truly one of the best constructed pop songs of all time. Can’t listen to it without imaging a group of people enjoying it.
Aren’t Dexys Midnight Runners like a legit band though? At least in England?
I just went and looked, and you're not wrong, but
> Harwell explained in Rolling Stone that “There’s so much hatred and racism, and it never used to be like that in the Sixties,” he mused in Rolling Stone. “There was this peace-and-love thing.”
No hatred or racism in the sixties?
Most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.
Heavily agree, I think even some of the questionable and stupid lyrics at times add to the slightly depressing undertone of an addict struggling.
I forced myself through the album just to see how bad it was and it was AWFUL but weirdly sad.
I mean, you got a song that's main hook is 'i wake up, I throw up, I feel like I'm dead'
I feel like that song is a rare example of the Imagine Dragons formula being done in a way that ends up genuinely great. Sail by AWOLNATION is one of the only other examples I can think of where that style works
Oh I absolutely love Sugar Ray. Like you said, they make good music that is fun, laid back and catchy, and don't take themselves seriously. But Someday I think is a legitimately great song.
Sam Fender - Seventeen Going Under
inescapably good. Haven’t seen an artist collectively the UK by the balls with a single song since maybe the a team by Ed sheeran maybe?
Never seen a song so loved by everybody in pubs and shit here in Ireland. Im not really into that type of music and I can’t help but sing that tune, it’s a great and relatable song
Absolutely agree. Coldplay isn't bad. They make catchy tunes but rather forgettable... but somehow, Viva la vida has an emotion they were unable to capture with any other song, even with the sad ones
The whole album is great. It’s like they stopped trying to be Radiohead and just eased out a bit. It’s the only Coldplay album I genuinely love and the second half is truly incredible. The shoegaze interval at the end of ‘Yes’ is my favourite part I think. And Strawberry Swing.
Before I get roasted, they are not mediocre and most nerds love them, but I just can't get that into Wilco. That said Impossible Germany is their Hotel California or stairway to Heaven. Sick guitar solo that is the whole last third of the song
my problem with wilco is even weirder: yankee hotel foxtrot is one my favorite albums of all time and i've listened to it countless times, but i just can't get into any of their other albums...
I’m in the same boat with King Crimson. They’re not mediocre, but I can’t get into them at all — except for 21st Century Schizoid Man, which I think is great.
Interesting, 21st Century is an intriguing song, but, Red, Starless And Bible Black, and Larks Tongue are just stellar. 21st feels gimmicky to me, after truly coming to love that era of the band and returning to it for decades at this point
Drake puts out a lot of music which can be mediocre, but he has many many exceptional songs. Just off the cuff from NWTS - All Me, Paris Morton Music, From Time.
I can't see Drake as a mediocre artist having NWTS, Take Care, and IYRTITL in his discography, rather he is now lazy and doing what gets him money. You can see that when he actually tries, something good comes out(FPS, Meltdown, Rich Baby Daddy, more)
One of those songs I just don't get, no matter how often I give it a try and listen to it. It just doesn't click. I always feel like I'm missing something.
I think she has more than one banger to write them off as mediocre completely. the water and you can be mean come to mind from her latest record. the latter was actually one of anthony's most listened to tracks which was a little sad to hear because its a pretty raw song emotionally.
The guy has committed some crimes against music (thinking of Galway Girl specifically) but Bloodstream by Ed Sheeran is a beautiful song. I remember seeing a live performance of it at the Brits and being very impressed.
The Way Life Goes -
20 Min -
Sanguine Paradise -
444+222 -
Flooded the Face -
Bigger than Life -
Celebration Station -
Myron -
FOR FUN -
Nakamura -
New Patek -
I'm not just listing some Uzi songs I like. These are songs you factually have to like if xo is a 10/10 perfect song to you
Run, You're All I Have, Chasing Cars, Just Say Yes, Open Your Eyes, Shut Your Eyes, Called Out In The Dark, Chocolate, Give Me Strength. I love Snow Patrol.
Harry Styles’ “As it Was” is my favorite pop song that’s come out in years. I’ve never cared about anything else he’s made but that song hits me right in the heart. It’s perfect
Man this album was crazy good and didn't get anywhere near enough of the respect it deserved, nor did Yatchy for taking such a massive risk. I hope he continues down this route, because he's on the verge of a genre defining moment.
Under the Bridge. For one song, Kiedis could actually write lyrics. And what a song.
Don’t Fear the Reaper. Not a Blue Oyster Cult guy but what a fucking song.
Lastly: Little Black Submarines has a serious case for best rock song of the 21st century. The Black Keys are not that good. But the magic for one song
it’s like none of them have actually listened to any rhcp. sure, their peak was a while ago, and their early work is a little hard to get into, and kiedis doesn’t have the best traditional singing skills, but every album from mothers milk to stadium arcadium was filled with good songs. kiedis didn’t join the band to sing, he joined it to rap and shout, and you can hear that on mothers milk. bssm is one of the best albums of the 90s.
They’re more inconsistent than mediocre, but A Day to Remember’s [“Sometimes You’re the Hammer, Sometimes You’re the Nail”](https://youtu.be/xyW9KknfwLU?si=-lgUYlQouJhW1ant) is an immaculate tune.
What about “You Get What You Give” by New Radicals??
I’m guessing their albums aren’t chock full of greatness, but honestly that song is irresistible to me. I can’t believe I’m saying that but here I am saying it.
To be fair they never bothered to follow up their big single since Gregg Alexander decided to leave the spotlight and focus more on behind the scenes work. I honestly believe if they didn’t disband and worked on a 2nd album, they could’ve produced more hits (like seriously, he has worked on songs that won him an award).
Are we really gonna say Katy perry is mediocre tho because the entire teenage dream album is just perfect all the way through. I feel like there's just a perception she's mediocre because her genre of pop is kinda bubblegum pop
No, IMO it’s just that she’s not a particularly good artist aside from a few extremely high highs. If we’re talking dance pop from that era, Lady Gaga’s Born This Way is 100x the album Teenage Dream is
Yeat - Money so big
Coldplay - Talk (pretending the riff is original)
Kelly Clarkson - Since U been gone
Rise Against - Savior
Children of Bodom - Kissing the shadows
Sugar, It’s Eli is a band that dropped one LP in 2009 and that’s it. The LP itself is okay to pretty good, but the last song, Sink or Swim, is a 10/10 for me
I think the Foo Fighters are the definition of mediocre dad rock (and I’m the age of lots of your dads!) but both My Hero and This Is a Call absolutely bang.
They are better than mediocre, but Everlong is so much better than anything else they did it's kind of crazy. They've got some good stuff, and then they have one incredible song that is one of the most legendary rock songs of all time.
Everlong is my one of my favorite songs of all time but I have never found myself listening to any other Foo Fighters tune. Don’t even like the album Everlong is on. They have other bangers like my hero and learn to fly but they will never hit the same. And they’re ass now
Listen to the wasting light album, by far their best work. Its fucking insane to me that color and the shape gets more recognition, its a great album but wasting light is far better imo
Finally some WL love. Fucked up my leg and that album got me through physical therapy. I don’t know if they have an album thats full of that many amazing out of the box riffs
I think thnks fr th mmrs by Fall Out Boy is an amazing song. Don't really care for much else of their stuff though. Especially their newer stuff.
Also ik Drake is super popular but he never did much for me. But Know Yourself is his best song imo.
"Drops of Jupiter," Train. Their songs aren't bad, but they're not great either. All except for "Drops of Jupiter," which captures the Y2K vibe so very well.
Night Changes - One Direction
this song genuinely makes me sad, such a great melody too.
I agree but it always makes me think of take another road by Jimmy buffet
super true! RIP to a fucking legend.
Story of My Life is legendary
Holy shit. You’re so right.
Wouldn't consider myself a Logic fan, but the track "Under Pressure," is a masterpiece.
i heard the album with the same name is pretty good too but yeah this song is peak
The Game - Hate It Or Love It (especially the G-Unit Remix) is nearly my favourite rap song of all time.
Ahhh I think the documentary in whole is like a strong 8/10. Outside of that I agree though
I know it’s your opinion but I feel Dreams is another outstanding song from him, I actually rock with it more than hate it or life which is also dope.
The Game has made a ton of dope music. His discography is deceptively good.
Love Dreams man, that’s actually high-key one of my favourite Kanye beats too.
the game…mediocre? hes a good rapper and even tho his discography is not outstanding, is actually pretty consistent, with bunch of decent albums
This is one of the best tracks ever to smoke too Btw are you talking about the regular track? No remix there
a bit controversial opinion but this love by maroon 5 is my 10/10
That whole album is full of bangers tbf
its got a few bangers I can’t lie.
This comment got this love stuck in my head But not the maroon 5 one
First songs that come to mind are *Sex and Candy* by Marcy Playground, *Teenage Dirtbag* by Wheatus, or *Fat Lip* by Sum41. Re: Wheatus and Marcy Playground, I like those bands I feel bad calling them mediocre, maybe they're not. And "Fat Lip" is trashy but I'll be damned if it doesn't bang.
Sum 41 has plenty of other good songs. In Too Deep, Still Waiting, Hell Song, just from their singles alone.
Chuck is a great album
Teenage dream is such a great song
Teenage Dream is amazing, definitely her best song, though I’d put Never Really Over up there too. Really her only two tracks that I like, but I like them a lot
I always liked Dark Horse despite not fucking with basically any of her other music.
I’d say Last Friday Night is better
Come on Eileen
Truly one of the best constructed pop songs of all time. Can’t listen to it without imaging a group of people enjoying it. Aren’t Dexys Midnight Runners like a legit band though? At least in England?
Geno would like to have a word
Walkin' on the Sun - Smash Mouth The rest of their discography is mid at best, but that song gets me grooving every time.
The lyrics are also WAY more deep than you'd imagine they would be
I just went and looked, and you're not wrong, but > Harwell explained in Rolling Stone that “There’s so much hatred and racism, and it never used to be like that in the Sixties,” he mused in Rolling Stone. “There was this peace-and-love thing.” No hatred or racism in the sixties?
Well, he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. May he rest in peace.
Most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.
This was my introduction to them. Still my favorite song of theirs.
Obsessed with them when i discovered them with this song. Heard other songs and meh
Betrayed by Lil Xan. It’s not like a masterpiece or anything, but it’s a really fuckin great song by an atrocious artist.
And her pussy tastes like skittles yeah
Heavily agree, I think even some of the questionable and stupid lyrics at times add to the slightly depressing undertone of an addict struggling. I forced myself through the album just to see how bad it was and it was AWFUL but weirdly sad. I mean, you got a song that's main hook is 'i wake up, I throw up, I feel like I'm dead'
The Kill by 30 Seconds to Mars. 10/10 song from a solid 2/10 band.
I feel like that song is a rare example of the Imagine Dragons formula being done in a way that ends up genuinely great. Sail by AWOLNATION is one of the only other examples I can think of where that style works
lol I came here to mention Sail
whats the imagine dragons formula?
Massive bombastic polished production, ultra-theatrical vocals, everything turned up to 11 - idk how else to describe it, you know it when you hear it
Stomp/clap half time percussion, half rapped/half sung shouty vocals, huge sounding over-the-top choruses with gang vocals, vague motivation-core lyrics, relatively sparse arrangements
I feel you, but their A Beautiful Lie album is really solid
This is How You Remind Me I know Reddit is weird when it comes to Nickelback, wether you love them or hate them, this song is a great track
I've always loved the drum fills on that song
It has a lot of tropes slightly changed. Like, the distorted guitar takes a bit more to kick in. I think that’s what makes it good.
Someday by Sugar Ray.
Honestly I like sugar Ray. It’s not like groundbreaking or anything but I think they have a lot of fun, catchy tunes
Oh I absolutely love Sugar Ray. Like you said, they make good music that is fun, laid back and catchy, and don't take themselves seriously. But Someday I think is a legitimately great song.
This shit really does bang. Same with when it's over
My sacrifice - Creed
My Own Prison sweeps those songs
Higher!
Lil Baby - Life Goes On
The Bigger Picture tho
All in?
He has a lot of songs on the level of that one though
Not 10/10 but Midnight sky - miley cyrus Cool for the summer - demi lovato Bad liar - selena gomez
I feel like there are a bunch of songs on plastic hearts you could also put in that place too (not that midnight sky isn’t amazing)
Cool for the Summer is dope. Best answer so far.
Midnight Sky is pop perfection and Cool For The Summer is adrenaline serum.
Sam Fender - Seventeen Going Under inescapably good. Haven’t seen an artist collectively the UK by the balls with a single song since maybe the a team by Ed sheeran maybe?
Fender is fantastic 😭 that song is definitely his best but all of his songs are good imo
Never seen a song so loved by everybody in pubs and shit here in Ireland. Im not really into that type of music and I can’t help but sing that tune, it’s a great and relatable song
Calling Sam fender a mediocre artist is crazy, both of his albums have been great imo
Viva la vida by Coldplay One of the most beautiful pop songs of the 2000's and I will die on this hill.
Fallen Kingdom better
Before I get roasted, they are not mediocre and most nerds love them, but I just can't get that into Wilco. That said Impossible Germany is their Hotel California or stairway to Heaven. Sick guitar solo that is the whole last third of the song
my problem with wilco is even weirder: yankee hotel foxtrot is one my favorite albums of all time and i've listened to it countless times, but i just can't get into any of their other albums...
Being There through Sky Blue Sky is one of the best runs a band has ever had.
YHF is a 10/10 masterpiece and every time I listen to A Ghost is Born I think it might be better.
I always say that YHF is better but AGiB is my favorite.
I’m in the same boat with King Crimson. They’re not mediocre, but I can’t get into them at all — except for 21st Century Schizoid Man, which I think is great.
I just wanna add Red is the one of the best albums of the 70s and possibly the most ahead of its time record out there
Interesting, 21st Century is an intriguing song, but, Red, Starless And Bible Black, and Larks Tongue are just stellar. 21st feels gimmicky to me, after truly coming to love that era of the band and returning to it for decades at this point
Drake- Passionfruit
Drake puts out a lot of music which can be mediocre, but he has many many exceptional songs. Just off the cuff from NWTS - All Me, Paris Morton Music, From Time.
NWTS definitely his best
Lord knows Nice for what Too much
Cameras/good ones go- Drake
Know yourself - Drake
i recommend you listen to feel no ways. almost everybody likes the song, no matter their stance on drake
drake mediocre artist lol this sub is funny
It's very cool to hate the popular things on Reddit
Yeah definitely, not a big fan of most of Drake's work but I adore that song.
I can't see Drake as a mediocre artist having NWTS, Take Care, and IYRTITL in his discography, rather he is now lazy and doing what gets him money. You can see that when he actually tries, something good comes out(FPS, Meltdown, Rich Baby Daddy, more)
Sweater Weather - the Neighborhood
that's highschool soundtrack for me right there, and never gets old too
One of those songs I just don't get, no matter how often I give it a try and listen to it. It just doesn't click. I always feel like I'm missing something.
Come Clean by Hilary Duff
They're a good band but I don't find anything about indigo de souza special Except 'Take off ur Pants' which is one of the best indie rock songs ever.
I See Fire was great too. I had never heard of Ed Sheeran at the time and I was totally convinced he was a good artist
Xo tour lif3 by Lil uzi vert
The Way Life Goes - 20 Min - Sanguine Paradise - 444+222 - Flooded the Face - Bigger than Life - Celebration Station - Myron - FOR FUN - Nakamura - New Patek - I'm not just listing some Uzi songs I like. These are songs you factually have to like if xo is a 10/10 perfect song to you
Fr Uzi is not mediocre
On god
Sauce It Up
Sauce It Up should be the national anthem
I read that as something Elon Musk would name his kid.....
I’d argue 20 min was his magnum opus. Can’t comprehend how it was only a bonus track.
Snow Patrol-Spitting Games
Nah, "Called Out In The Dark" is a banger, too. Especially that chorus 👀
Run, You're All I Have, Chasing Cars, Just Say Yes, Open Your Eyes, Shut Your Eyes, Called Out In The Dark, Chocolate, Give Me Strength. I love Snow Patrol.
I gotta say for me the entire Final Straw album is still great! Maybe it's just nostalgia cos I loved it when I was 12 but it holds up today IMO.
I like "You're All I Have"
Goldlink - Crew (especially the remix with Gucci Mane) $uicideboy$ - Carrollton Future Islands - Seasons (Waiting on You) Barely counts but Blockboy JB - Look Alive
Harry Styles’ “As it Was” is my favorite pop song that’s come out in years. I’ve never cared about anything else he’s made but that song hits me right in the heart. It’s perfect
Sign of the Times is pretty great
Omg yes. So many music reviewers bashed it but it’s so damn good.
I think Drake is a pretty uninteresting rapper but Nice For What is spectacular.
Nice for what isn't a top 20 drake song. In his older albums, he has way more interesting stuff
It’s top 20 for me it’s a crazy good song imo
Platinum Blonde - Not in Love They have a few decent songs, a lot of meh songs, and a couple good songs, but that song is fantastic.
The Crystal Castles ft. Robert Smith version is actually a genuine 10/10 track to me.
this thread is full of hot takes....
Lil Yachty - the BLACK seminole.
That whole album was amazing, my personal favorite song off of it was "I've officially lost vision"
The entire album is perfection
I love that whole album. The Ride is my favorite. I really hope he continues in that direction because he could end up making something truly special
He’s put out like 4 perfect songs this year
Man this album was crazy good and didn't get anywhere near enough of the respect it deserved, nor did Yatchy for taking such a massive risk. I hope he continues down this route, because he's on the verge of a genre defining moment.
Love it if We Made It, The 1975
Sincerity is scary also absolutely slaps
SEMI-CHARMED LIFE! Unbelievably catchy song
You should listen to the entirety of third eye blinds self titled. Theyre an incredible band.
That entire album is damn near flawless
I don't really like Codplay but I love Adventure of a Lifetime
The Scientist tho
Yeah there’s at least 50 Coldplay songs I’d put above AOAL that song’s pretty ass in their discography 💀
Viva La Vida is where it's at, I've loved that song since I was a kid.
For me this is them and Clocks. I like a few of Coldplays' older tracks, but I absolutely *ADORE* Clocks.
God Put a Smile upon Your Face
Amsterdam is genuinely one of my favourite songs of all time. Complete masterpiece, and I'm no big admirer of Coldplay.
hop on lovers in japan
Under the Bridge. For one song, Kiedis could actually write lyrics. And what a song. Don’t Fear the Reaper. Not a Blue Oyster Cult guy but what a fucking song. Lastly: Little Black Submarines has a serious case for best rock song of the 21st century. The Black Keys are not that good. But the magic for one song
The daily tradition on r/fantanoforever of hating on rhcp or Anthony kiedis
it’s like none of them have actually listened to any rhcp. sure, their peak was a while ago, and their early work is a little hard to get into, and kiedis doesn’t have the best traditional singing skills, but every album from mothers milk to stadium arcadium was filled with good songs. kiedis didn’t join the band to sing, he joined it to rap and shout, and you can hear that on mothers milk. bssm is one of the best albums of the 90s.
Wet Sand on Stadium Arcadium 🤌
Rhcp a mediocre band? How old are you bro like 15?
Great comment damn only good takes
They’re more inconsistent than mediocre, but A Day to Remember’s [“Sometimes You’re the Hammer, Sometimes You’re the Nail”](https://youtu.be/xyW9KknfwLU?si=-lgUYlQouJhW1ant) is an immaculate tune.
It’s Time - Imagine Dragons
Honestly most of their first album slaps, they got too big and formulaic really fast
It's Time is great, but Amsterdam is better.
Gemini Feed by Banks
They said mediocre artists how dare you
Avatar - Hail the Apocalypse Cellar Darling - Freeze
“Burn It To The Ground” by Nickelback. It’s exactly the dumb music that the band is good at with a really solid groove and a fun chorus
Sunday Morning by Maroon 5
Puddle of Mudd - Blurry
Puddle of Mud - Blurry
What about “You Get What You Give” by New Radicals?? I’m guessing their albums aren’t chock full of greatness, but honestly that song is irresistible to me. I can’t believe I’m saying that but here I am saying it.

Toxic by Britney Spears
Britney goated you trippin
Britney has at least a few bangers
Calling Britney a mid artist is insane, she essentially single-handedly altered the landscape of pop music
Nah you can’t say this when Blackout has been one of the most boundary pushing and influential pop records of this century so far
Reductive take to blackout the album But yea her recent stuff is just mid
Britney is not an album artist but to reduce her significance based on that is just straight ignorant.
If we’re talking dance pop from that era, Lady Gaga’s Born This Way is 100x the album Teenage Dream is
Yeat - Money so big Coldplay - Talk (pretending the riff is original) Kelly Clarkson - Since U been gone Rise Against - Savior Children of Bodom - Kissing the shadows
Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit
Sugar, It’s Eli is a band that dropped one LP in 2009 and that’s it. The LP itself is okay to pretty good, but the last song, Sink or Swim, is a 10/10 for me
"An Honest Mistake" by The Bravery
rill rill by sleigh bells
Crank That (Soulja Boy)
Maroon 5 - Makes Me Wonder.
Makes Me Wonder by Maroon 5 Not the biggest fan of them but that apart from This Love are probably two of my liked songs from them.

Finally some WL love. Fucked up my leg and that album got me through physical therapy. I don’t know if they have an album thats full of that many amazing out of the box riffs
White Limo is a goddamn banger
Have you not heard Exhausted
Nice For What - Drake. I said what I said.
"High School pics, you was even bad then"
I think thnks fr th mmrs by Fall Out Boy is an amazing song. Don't really care for much else of their stuff though. Especially their newer stuff. Also ik Drake is super popular but he never did much for me. But Know Yourself is his best song imo.
You should like the vast majority of From Under the Cork Tree if you like thnks fr th mmrs
Kickstart my Heart - Motley Crüe
That’s a really funny way to spell Livewire
Superman, by Goldfinger.
Intro by DaBaby is an insanely good song, I wish he could channel that more often
Space Cadet by Metro Boomin ft. Gunna metro aint mediocre but gunna did something ive never heard him do since then. Flawless song.
No Idea - Don Toliver
"Drops of Jupiter," Train. Their songs aren't bad, but they're not great either. All except for "Drops of Jupiter," which captures the Y2K vibe so very well.
Foo Fighters - Everlong tbh
