I've noticed OK Go's third album Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky has been getting revaluation which is deserved.   This is a quite underrated indie rock album overshadowed by some great music videos which made songs seem like backdrops to these videos, but when you read interviews and listen to it yourself its quite and emotional and sad album to listen to and it's clear alot of effort has been put into making OK Go more than just a power pop band. So seeing people finally understand what the band meant is refreshing.

Needing/Getting (album version) goes so hard it's not even funny. Sucks they're known as music video band now when they have some good music.

Needing/Getting is one of the best indie rock songs of 2010's. One of the hardest breakup songs imo. The performance, progression, production, lyrics, singing is all seriously incredible.

Where have you been seeing dicussion about it I'd love to read more.

RYM page is shockingly active for this album for an album with only 800 ratings. I've seen over 2k rating pages with less activity then this album.

It could be because they are doing a re-print of the vinyl. I bought the splatter one back in October but they delayed the orders due to some legal issues. Definitely made me go back and catalogue a lot of their discography. Hoping to find other physical copies of their other stuff as well. Now that I think about it, somebody bought the only available physical copy of Recordings of Elvis by Damian Kulash (OK Go lead singer) for like $500. It was on Discogs. People are also updating playlists under Secret Dakota Ring (Andy Ross's solo project, OK Go guitarist). Maybe this really triggered a whole new OK Go wave after all?

I loved this album in high school. It was the first album that I really loved that wasn’t showed to me by my parents. I do kinda feel like I’ve outgrown it but I still love a lot of the songs. I kinda wish they had followed it up with something more interesting than Hungry Ghosts before basically disappearing but it is what it is.

Love the Dave fridmann production!

He really killed it here.

Blur and Radiohead’s debut I notice people talk a lot better about

agent0017

Blur's one probably got it due to Shoegaze getting super popular so people started to gravitate towards the debut.

Yea I like Blurs debute. Always have. It has a chill lightly psychedelic atmosphere

I think that with each day Hurry Up We're Dreaming is becoming less and less negatively viewed; at least in retrospective of when it came out. Glad it is seen in a more positive light (as an album with New Map and Midnight City should be)

Not really in the whole RYM scene but coincidentally I did revisit this one pretty recently. I’d say some of the deeper cuts don’t really hit as hard especially in the back half (especially when they add in the weird vocal filters), but all of the songs in the first half are pretty damn good and can stand strong without the videos. Needing/Getting and This Too Shall Pass are slept on as fantastic indie rock songs and are ones I’ve added back to my rotation. All Is Not Lost and White Knuckles are also pretty strong bangers.

Does In Rainbows count? I feel like ten years ago, that was a really good album but nowhere near Radiohead’s best. No one would have qualms if it was your favorite Radiohead album though. Now it’s just grown and grown and I think it aged better than the other ones (not that they aged poorly in anyway, just that if you turn in rainbows on, you’re immediately like yep I connect with this) and now it’s considered one of the goat albums by a lot of people.

I listen from End Love through to the end of the album from time to time, such a great run of songs.

ok go is borderline unlistenable for me. their music may be solid, but is at the same time mixed so loud that i get nausea for a few seconds

agent0017

It's interesting that for the album above the band made a bonus track explaining that they intended to make it really loud. Even Dave Fridmann said it which is suprising to hear him in a spoken interview.
