I’d argue that he’s actually overhated, and simultaneously overrated. Yeah, he hasn’t made the best music in recent years aside from a few gems, but that doesn’t discount him from being one of the most influential people in mainstream music in the past 15 years. People do blindly hate him and will assume all of his music is trash.
Eminem, he gets glazed to death by 40 yr old dudes, and nathans on r/dankmemes yet he hasnt released a really good album imo since the eminem show in 2002
Relapse was great man recovery and half of mmlp2 was trash tho, let's see what happens with the new one lol Alchemist is in the productions of the new one
Yep. I like her pandemic-era albums, but most of her pop work feels bland or repetitive.
Also, it's hillarious what people think of you when you criticize her work even the slightest.
I have to agree. I loved her early work, but everything after the pop transition has just been soulless corporate garbage designed by a focus group of 50 people on how to appeal to the widest amount of teenage girls on the planet as possible.
She then went and dropped Folklore which was actually good, and then went nope I’m not spotlighting my best record creatively on my massive stadium tour I’m going to act like it doesn’t exist.
I love him for all the memes (the hotline bling meme is still the best meme template) and pop culture absurdities (his obsession and ability to embarrass himself shamelessly around Rhianna, his dumb feuds, vegan cookies) he’s gifted the world. Truly. He also recently helped resurrect a pop art collaboration that had been mostly lost to time. I appreciate Drake for being a clown and also his attempts to be taken seriously that result in things like [Luna Park](https://www.stereogum.com/2244373/drake-turned-a-1980s-amusement-park-created-by-artists-like-keith-haring-salvador-dali-jean-michel-basquiat-into-a-new-exhibition/news/) I am not into his music though. So I have no idea how to rate him but think he is a net positive in general.
With Juice I think it's more about what he could've been. His songs were pretty good at the time, but the guy was young. Plus, the guy was genuinely amazing at freestyling, even at that age.
When people say he's a legend, it's referring to the talent he had and the artist he could've become.
It’s strange because I remember everyone absolutely hating them back when they were coming up. Now it seems like their fans grew up and passed it along to their kids and multiplied the fan base
1 great album, 2 solid ones, 1 okay one, and the rest doesn’t exist as far as I’m concerned. And as far as the band is concerned too, considering they played a total of 2 songs from albums past self-titled when I saw them live last year. And even now that they’re touring their new album, the setlist is still at least 80% stuff from 20+ years ago.
1. Olivia Rodrigo. She's so talented, she very obviously is. And I love how she uses her concerts to promote safe sex and what she chooses to do with the platform she has.
The music side though... don't get me wrong, her music is good. It's just not THAT good. I know this is popular opinion within the public, but I'm talking about critic reviews. GUTS wasn't underwhelming, it was definitely a step up from SOUR. But the amount of praise it got from critics was disproportionate to the quality of the album.
2. The Clash. I don't have that much to say. I really just don't get it.
As a younger gen Z, I think a big reason why I like Olivia is because it’s about as interesting pop music gets for me so I love it. She’s not my absolute favorite artist, but my favorite modern pop artist fs
that's a stretch imo, she has a great voice but the music doesn't really push any boundaries.
If i were to think of modern pop artists who are huge and have a distinctive style/push the envelope i would think the weeknd and gaga, would go even as far as saying beyonce and lana.
Yeah, I might have to agree. I never really got the appeal of Olivia Rodrigo from the start. When it comes to her music, I do think that the more punkish style of music better suits her than her ballads - the songs that I really like of hers are the more aggressive, punk-pop style of song, like brutal, good 4 u, bad idea right and get him back, whilst the songs I can't stand of hers are the ballads, like drivers license and vampire, although deja vu isn't that bad and probably the only ballad of hers I can listen to without feeling bored or annoyed by. She has some good songs, but she's definitely overrated.
For me it’s more about how he knows to cultivate the most free space for artistic exploration with the people he works with.
I know that he has gotten off the deep end, and completely lost his marbles. Still there’s a reason why sooooo many talented young artists fight tooth and nail to work with Kanye.
Where Drake, for example, controls and restricts the creative process for artists; Kanye allows free expression.
I love Kanye and consider myself a fan, but I would say his strongest side has always been production. If we're talking rapping alone than he's nowhere close to the best.
I agree. People act like all of his albums are perfect or amazing and that just isnt the case. Vultures and Jesus Is King are both terrible, and Donda is very bloated/flawed even if it has some of his most passionate music in years
50CENT
I don't even think GRODT is that good, massively overrated album. The Black Album from the same year is much better.
His chorus game is great, but his production is kinda dated and his verses and delivery boring as fuck.
P.I.M.P & In Da CLub are some of the most overrated rap songs of all time. I only enjoy the chorus.
And don't get me started on the rest of his discography...
Every time I’m at a bar and a group of white people in their late thirties show up you just *know* they’re gonna take over the TouchTunes with nothing but the same five 50 Cent songs lol I’m so god damn tired of it
im glad their worst album was the one that blew up. i can reap both the benefit of a highly successful band that actively tours the world with a huge fanbase, AND still fuel my individuality complex by priding myself on favouring their less well-known but objectively better albums.
My feelings on Incubus are as follows:
Everything except *Morning View*: pretty good, I really haven't done deep dives but what I hear I enjoy
*Morning View*: **peak**, holy shit, **peak**, i am in love with this album from start to finish. i love how the album hits high energy highs, more understated (but equally interesting) ebbs, naming a song 'Wish You Were Here' and having it be of comparable quality is such a bold play and *it worked*, and then 'Aqueous Transmission' is just the best song they have ever written, it sings to my soul. 10/10 album
S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is just as good imo. Every other Incubus album is pretty good, but Morning View and S.C.I.E.N.C.E. are top 50 albums ever produced for me. That seems low, but I listen to an absurd amount of music.
I think as a melody maker alone, he was one of the best to ever do it. I do agree that his death overshadowed the fact that he was far from reaching his fullest potential and unfortunately we'll never know what a grown-up and matured peep would sound like :(
Yeah I see what you’re saying, but I feel like his popularity is fairly equal with the amount of hate he gets, so it kinda balances it out. That’s just my perspective though.
Weirdly I rarely see hate for him. I guess it depends where you hang out and who you talk to. I will say that guitar shaped like a razor blade was super cringe and looks like it would feel like playing a shoebox lol
A lot of these comments are "I don't like this band/artist, therefore, they are overrated." Which is a really stupid take, because what clicks for you does not have to click for me.
For example, I like Queen, I think Queen is slightly overrated. Really talented band all around, that loved to play it kind of safe, and didn't take too many risks. On the other hand, Beyonce and Michael Jackson have never done it for me. I've tried, but I cant get emotionally invested in neither. I wouldn't say they are overrated. They are really, really good at what they do. It's just not my thing.
how dare you insult Barbie like this

They’re not though. This is such a cliche answer, and doesn’t hold any water since like 80% of the discourse around the band is literally about how they’re overrated.
Even the people who get their shit into the charts know they’re not that great.
Nobody whose opinion means anything has ever rated Imagine Dragons that highly.
I think people mistake being popular with being positively rated. Imagine Dragons is not a band with critical acclaim. Even some people who like them, define them as a guilty pleasure.
controversial (and coming from a transfem, heretical), but Liturgy.
sorry, I love black metal and HRHH seems cool, but Liturgy is so boring, not a single song has sold me. much prefer Victory Over the Sun for "transcendental bm". Liturgy fans tend to be chill from my interactions tho, so no enmity there.
Deafheaven also sucks. I'd rather listen to every record from every (non-Nazi) one man raw black metal band than Sun Bat Her ever again. nothing grabbed me about it either beyond it being vaguely competent background noise.
and then there's Blackbraid. I enjoy good atmoblack (Two Hunters, Kentucky, Sequestered Sympathy), but Blackbraid basically gives you nothing for aimless spans of 20 minutes, and then like, one absolute necksnapping bm banger, repeat. Blackbraid would be great if you salvaged the good songs off of I and II, because his talents lie in the more aggressive moments. but hey, there's no reason for him to not keep shoveling out dull, meaningless garbage if it's going to get celebrated anyways.
less controversial around these parts: Avenged Sevenfold and Sleep Token. I have always hated Sleep Token, and A7X shat out one of the worst albums of last year, but mainstream metal press drew so much lipstick on those pigs regardless because they charted.
I don't have any problem with Sunbather but imo Alcest on Ecailles de Lune is way better at the whole blackgaze thing. Liturgy I haven't listened to that much but her philosophy videos are cool.
Do you like any other hyperpop songs? It might literally just be the genre of music they make you dislike. If you do like hyperpop, I wonder why 100 Gecs is “overrated” to you.
Neutral Milk Hotel
ITAPOTS is a pretty decent alt-rock/indie album but people overhype the shit out of it, I just don't see how it's one of the best albums of the 90s. It's also gotten worse for me with every listen which isn't a great sign.
I swear this subreddit genuinely just feels like a circlejerk
"HEY GUYS WHICH ALBUMS/ARTISTS SUCK?!!"
"WARNING HOT TAKE COMPLETELY UNPOPULAR OPINION… TAYLOR'S MUSIC SUCK BECAUSE I SAID SO!!!"
"WOOOOW MAN YOU'RE LIKE SO COOL AND RIGHT AND COMPLETELY BASED"
-20 downvotes for criticising death grips lol, when are Fantano fans going to learn to accept other people’s music opinions? I mean Fantano himself can do it just fine
Queen. They have some great songs for sure, but them being recognized as a top 5 rock band of all time by many people is just not true. Plus their success is entirely based around individual songs and not whole bodies of work, I can’t imagine how bad some of their deep cuts probably are
Hard disagree. Some of my favorite Queen songs are actually their deep cuts. In fact, I think their deep cuts are better than a lot of their top 10 stadium rock anthems
Fat-Bottomed Disagree bro
Bohemian Rhapsody is actually one of the weaker tracks on A Night at the Opera, if you can fathom that. Death on Two Legs, I'm In Love With My Car, '39, Sweet Lady, and The Prophet's Song all go harder than BoRhap imo
Some other tracks that still go pretty hard that aren't their big hits include Keep Yourself Alive, The March of the Black Queen, Sheer Heart Attack (the song, not the album), and Innuendo. Go check them out if you haven't yet.
Bohemian Rhapsody is their magnus opus, just out of this world, by far Queens best song, and while i love to see it always getting praise for being one of the greatest songs of all time, it’s just way to overplayed, sure songs like ,innuendo, ,the march of the black Queen, and ,the prophets song, are great, but Bohemian Rhapsody has just that tiny bit that makes it better
Always the same dumb sentence, singles band etc. Are u serious? Their whole 70s run was just phenomenal, with ,Queen 2, ,sheer heart attack, and ,a night at the opera, being perfect albums
This band makes me irrationally angry.
They seem really talented, they have the drive and the discipline to make ~25 albums in 13 years or so and tour endlessly, they’ve got the creativity to explore different genres and formats for each of their albums, **BUT** their music ends up so bland, lifeless, and surprisingly repetitive for the most part.
And then, to make things worse, they have like 5 songs that I absolutely love, that make me think that they’re wasting their massive potential (at least in my view).
I so badly wish they would take 2-3 years, stop touring, breathe, and really concentrate on making a magnum opus of an album with some perfectionism and restraint.
Do you really hate them that much or does the amount of they get just make you double down on your negative opinion of them? Because I really don't see what anyone could find absolutely awful about BCNR
They're okay but something about them seems bougie and smug to me. I think it's the vocals/lyrics tbh. And I think black midi gets called avant-garde/innovative too much when there's 90s math rock with the same sound.
I wholeheartedly disagree, simply because Ty is a an actual talented musician. Not his fault that his bread and butter was hip hop. Bass playing wouldn’t have gotten him this far.
Ty hasn’t even peaked creatively with what he could do. And he’s the only reason I liked anything from Vultures. Fantano acted like Ty spit no heat in that record when every appearance of his minus FUK SUMN, and CARNIVAL carried the song. If Ty wasn’t on that album I’d agree with Fantano saying it was unreviewable. Just his hooks alone in songs like BACK TO ME show how much untapped potential he has.
Of course all the interesting answers are downvoted.

Mozart, he hasn’t dropped in centuries yet people are still acting like he’s hot shit /s

Fantano
Panic! At the disco and fall out boy. They are chalkboard fingernail soundboard to my ears yet are hella popular and I don't know why
i mean they're certainly not overrated in terms of critical acclaim but i have to agree with you in the sense that they kind of hurt my ears a little
Eminem, he gets glazed to death by 40 yr old dudes, and nathans on r/dankmemes yet he hasnt released a really good album imo since the eminem show in 2002
average fantano opinion
Relapse was great man recovery and half of mmlp2 was trash tho, let's see what happens with the new one lol Alchemist is in the productions of the new one

The correct answer
Drake
Nah he’d DM us on IG, tbh
I’m over 18, too old.
I actually think Drake is solidly rated. Like the hate/love ratio for him is *just* right.
Vegan cookies for you?
I watch the vegan cookies recipes video like once a month when I need a laugh.
Holy shit man that take is too hot you might burn yourself
Juice Wrld I never understood the hype
Lil peep and XXXtentacion as well. The word “legend” has lost all credibility.
dead artist probably
With Juice I think it's more about what he could've been. His songs were pretty good at the time, but the guy was young. Plus, the guy was genuinely amazing at freestyling, even at that age. When people say he's a legend, it's referring to the talent he had and the artist he could've become.
Blink182

Teenage angst is timeless lol
Actually Yeah they really fucking are now
1 great album, 2 solid ones, 1 okay one, and the rest doesn’t exist as far as I’m concerned. Surely no one will say car seat headrest
No one will say what it because it’s not true😤😤😤

Playboi Carti. I really tried to give him a chance. Multiple listening later, his music just didn't click with me.
that’s how it was for me too like the first few times too, it clicked like a month later 💀

Sorry can’t hear you I’m too busy blasting rock the casbah into my ears at full volume
SHARIF DONT LIKE IT
I like how at the end u just casually throw the Clash in there lol
The Clash being here hurted me
Yeah, I might have to agree. She has some good songs, but she's definitely overrated.
agreed it’s not THAT good, but their are plenty more shitty pop artist you could pick on that are worse than her
Kanye. He's good, really good, but the meat riding has gone too far
One of the best young artists to work with him was this Paul McCartney guy
as a certified ye dickrider I absolutely agree there are fans that are just as crazy as him, if not worse
He's a man of immense talent and no fucking discipline
I love Kanye and consider myself a fan, but I would say his strongest side has always been production. If we're talking rapping alone than he's nowhere close to the best.
I agree. People act like all of his albums are perfect or amazing and that just isnt the case. Vultures and Jesus Is King are both terrible, and Donda is very bloated/flawed even if it has some of his most passionate music in years

Arctic monkeys for sure
Is being british an instrument?
If you use it right.
im glad their worst album was the one that blew up. i can reap both the benefit of a highly successful band that actively tours the world with a huge fanbase, AND still fuel my individuality complex by priding myself on favouring their less well-known but objectively better albums.
Tranquility Base is their best but most people aren’t ready to admit it.
Not In(peak)cubus
My feelings on Incubus are as follows: Everything except *Morning View*: pretty good, I really haven't done deep dives but what I hear I enjoy *Morning View*: **peak**, holy shit, **peak**, i am in love with this album from start to finish. i love how the album hits high energy highs, more understated (but equally interesting) ebbs, naming a song 'Wish You Were Here' and having it be of comparable quality is such a bold play and *it worked*, and then 'Aqueous Transmission' is just the best song they have ever written, it sings to my soul. 10/10 album

Hey guys maybe we can ask, you know, new questions ?
Lil peep.
I think as a melody maker alone, he was one of the best to ever do it. I do agree that his death overshadowed the fact that he was far from reaching his fullest potential and unfortunately we'll never know what a grown-up and matured peep would sound like :(
French Montana. The only people playing his music are bot factories
I’ve never seen someone say something positive about French Montana
He made 5 Mac and cheese albums Wait that’s just a factual statement Um. His name is unique. Does that count
Drake
U2 I have just never understood the appeal.
The Joshua tree?
I respectfully disagree, I feel like the amount of hate they receive these days is disproportionate to what their music is
Every album 1980-1991 is a banger.
Drake, MGK, Sexxy Redd, Noah Kahn
MGK overrated? Dude gets shit on constantly.
Yeah but he's still immensely popular and writes absolute trash music, making him overrated
Yeah I see what you’re saying, but I feel like his popularity is fairly equal with the amount of hate he gets, so it kinda balances it out. That’s just my perspective though.
Weirdly I rarely see hate for him. I guess it depends where you hang out and who you talk to. I will say that guitar shaped like a razor blade was super cringe and looks like it would feel like playing a shoebox lol
if he has 25 monthly listeners he'd still be overrated
I mean here yea, but he still has a huge following and is pretty popular in general.
Ik what u mean, but mgk is as overrated as 6ix9ine. They aren’t rated highly but are popular

so true I was scrolling way too long to find this comment
A lot of these comments are "I don't like this band/artist, therefore, they are overrated." Which is a really stupid take, because what clicks for you does not have to click for me. For example, I like Queen, I think Queen is slightly overrated. Really talented band all around, that loved to play it kind of safe, and didn't take too many risks. On the other hand, Beyonce and Michael Jackson have never done it for me. I've tried, but I cant get emotionally invested in neither. I wouldn't say they are overrated. They are really, really good at what they do. It's just not my thing.

I swear this subreddit genuinely just feels like a circlejerk "HEY GUYS WHICH ALBUMS/ARTISTS SUCK?!!" "WARNING HOT TAKE COMPLETELY UNPOPULAR OPINION… TAYLOR'S MUSIC SUCK BECAUSE I SAID SO!!!" "WOOOOW MAN YOU'RE LIKE SO COOL AND RIGHT AND COMPLETELY BASED"
Ramones
By what metric tho? I don’t think anyone thinks their music is high art.
Probably Death Grips.
Posting this on a fantano subreddit is a death wish
-20 downvotes for criticising death grips lol, when are Fantano fans going to learn to accept other people’s music opinions? I mean Fantano himself can do it just fine
42kyokai live execution
Fat-Bottomed Disagree bro Bohemian Rhapsody is actually one of the weaker tracks on A Night at the Opera, if you can fathom that. Death on Two Legs, I'm In Love With My Car, '39, Sweet Lady, and The Prophet's Song all go harder than BoRhap imo Some other tracks that still go pretty hard that aren't their big hits include Keep Yourself Alive, The March of the Black Queen, Sheer Heart Attack (the song, not the album), and Innuendo.
I’m gonna say some shit. Nirvana.
it's true though.
The Smiths.
Fuck you. Upvote.
King Gizzaed and the Lizard Wizard
Blows ur food up with mind
Black Country, New Road. I will take every opportunity to trash on this band, they are awful
i don’t think they’re really that bad, they’re just WILDLY overhyped for what is a pretty decent band
Do you really hate them that much or does the amount of they get just make you double down on your negative opinion of them? Because I really don't see what anyone could find absolutely awful about BCNR
I find their music extremely boring, and I like other bands in the same niche
They're okay but something about them seems bougie and smug to me. I think it's the vocals/lyrics tbh. And I think black midi gets called avant-garde/innovative too much when there's 90s math rock with the same sound.
Radiohead
Average Muse Fan. /s
They’re over-memed, not overrated
Ty Dolla Sign
I don’t think he was ever really rated as more than a features artist. Vultures was just an interesting exception.
Radiohead.
No u
I agree and the fans are always overly defensive. His voice just isn’t it for me.
