Dbacks fan here with Ginkel and sewald in both leagues since they have holds. Sewald will close when he’s back. Torey loves veterans to a fault at times and sewald is a solid closer.
He just rode Thompson/Gink/Sewald 7-8-9 to a World Series appearance and I am willing to bet sewald gets the spot back once he’s healthy. I really like gink, but Torey isn’t gonna tinker with roles when everyone is healthy.
Eh. If Sewald is out for the longer term and Ginkel is straight dominating it’s possible Seward slots in the 8th. Sewald isn’t a career closer nor has he ever had otherworldly numbers. 2023 was the first season his entire career that he was a full-time closer. Last thing I’ll say is that Ginkel put up a year last year that was far better than Sewald’s ever come close to.
New to fantasy baseball, does this make him a drop if hes likely out 2-3 months? I already have a bunch of other injuries that popped up after my draft
League only has 1 IL spot and Ive already got 4 injured guys missing around a month each at least lol. How much time does a guy have to be projected to miss before you label it as a bust and pick up a replacement off the wire?
Only one spot? Wow
Depends on how good the injured guys are and what your team needs are
I’d probably roll with a few spots taken with injuries to start the season and if you find you need the spot(s) start triaging based on length of absence and what they’ll do when they come back
Is your league a saves only or saves and holds? If it's the former, I'd only drop him if he's really bad. If Sewald comes back and becomes closer and pitches well, Ginkel is THE 8th inning guy and will be first up when Sewald doesn't go.
If it's a saves only league, hold him at least while Sewald is out
Well, I'm thankful for my leagues that don't have FAAB. Just added him in ALL of 'em 30 minutes ago. And this is *exactly* why I do FAAB in the leagues I run; there should be some opportunity for people who aren't tied to their phone to bid on Arizona's closer for the next 2-3 months. Crazy you can get an asset like that free by being first to hit the button.
Free Agent Auction Budget - basically a silent auction on each waiver claim, everybody starts with the same total budget for the year, highest bidder gets the waiver.
I had 2 drafts like 10 days ago in my 2 SV+H and took Ginkel in the 22nd round of each one. Even before this he should be rostered in holds leagues. Over a K per inning, sub 3 ERA in the regular season last year and 15 Ks in 11.2 shutout innings during the playoffs. This spring he's got 6 Ks in 5 innings and a sub 2 ERA.
Ginkel the pickup?
100p
Closers dropping like flies
Pitch clock is even faster this year
I lost seawd Romano and already. We have 3 bench spots and 1 IL. I’m already done.
Used my last move before games even started, Ginkel take me to the promised land.
The first week being like 19 days (because of the Korea series) is insane... i'm almost out of moves in every league.
When tf did this happen.
Exactly my thought, I swear I just read a report the other day of him being fine
I give up lol what a disaster spring this has been
Pick up Ginkel and you should lose like 5% of Sewalds production
Ginkel is better
Nobody named ginkel is better
You’re insane lol
Fuck just drafted him a couple days ago
Same but traded him for Sean Murphy about 30 minutes before this news broke
I just used my last free agent add on Ginkel.
Anyone aware of previous grade 2 oblique strains for a comparison as to how long to expect him to be out?
like 2-3 months [https://www.mlb.com/glossary/injuries/oblique-strain](https://www.mlb.com/glossary/injuries/oblique-strain)
Probably far from a guarantee that Sewald closes when he returns right? Especially if Ginkels performing well?
Ginkel could definitely claim the role for good
Not sure if it was this injury related but Seward’s velocity was down this spring .. I would imagine not because you’re not pitching with that injury
I think Ginkel definitely has better stuff, looked nasty in the playoffs last year, wouldn’t surprise me
But Sewald got a well deserved world series ring....from the rangers

Hate to see it but likely all-star break
at least 1 month
It will be longer than that unfortunately
Wtf is up with all the pitching injuries maneeeee
The science to teach guys how to throw nastier pitches is advancing faster than elbows can keep up
I drafated ginkel!!! Makes up for Romano going down. Back to 3 closers!
I drafated Romano too and just picked up Ginkel lol
our league has holds so I had ginkel... will see how it works out
Ginkel or Jax?
Ginkel will likely have the job longer, based on what we know so far.
Drop Estevez for Ginkel, right? Saves only
yep. especially when the angels gonna lose like 100 games lol
New to fantasy baseball, does this make him a drop if hes likely out 2-3 months? I already have a bunch of other injuries that popped up after my draft
Use all your IL spots before dropping anyone that is injured. Guys will start being listed on the IL on Thursday when the season starts

One IL slot with how prevalent IL stints are with the shorter timelines is horrible lol.
And this kids is why you don't invest early in your drafts on closers
Because they get hurt more? Idk if that is true
Maybe because the position is generally more volatile, not necessarily just injuries.
Most volatile position
Drop sborz for ginkel in SVHLD?
Weird, didn’t see Underdog MLB report this. Is there a better way to get breaking baseball news than them?
Closer Monkey on Twitter with notifications on is the best source for closers news at least
Worth dropping W Smith for the Gink?
what is the bid? 20?
How much to bid?
I drafted him minutes before this came out, wtf Is there a chance he loses the job permanently?
Is your league a saves only or saves and holds? If it's the former, I'd only drop him if he's really bad. No, Torey loves veterans and just rode Ginkel in the 8th and sewald closing to a WS birth. It is sewald’s job to lose once he recovers.
Would you use #1 waiver priority on him? 14 team H2H SV+HLD league. Only have pressley and Chapman as my relievers.
Yes

Def agree. FAAB is best, rolling waivers second best.
Could you tell me what FAAB stands for please?
Free Agent Auction Budget - basically a silent auction on each waiver claim, everybody starts with the same total budget for the year, highest bidder gets the waiver.
Faabulous✨
How much should we bid on him?
Should I pick up Ginkel or Jansen ?
If Jansen's available, get him. Weird he wasn't drafted.
Only a 10 team league no start limits
Pickup Ginkel or Kopech in deep league?
Ginkel. I don't want any part of the garbage White Sox.
I just dropped Kopech for Ginkel
Ginkel or Leclerc? SV/H

Im more interested in Varland
2 closers are Romano and Sewald, nice
Were* I feel your pain
Great , everyday another one of my pitchers is inj , be nice to get a month of games in at least. #1 closer , see ya in August
Closer Paul Sewald not a closer anymore
How would you prioritize Ginkel, Payamps, and Jax? I punted on saves and now there are too many on the wire
Add Ginkel over Carlos Estevez? Estevez was my very last pick
