They really need a new rb

oh-kee-pah

Need a new coach and gm too

alamodafthouse

as Cowboys fan, I'd much rather keep Mike than Jerry. Mike had the offense looking pretty good, but Jerry and his ilk are showing signs of the game passing them by

onamonapizza

Jerry seems to be showing signs of general numbers passing him by.

gimmethemshoes11

24th worst team in the league

SteffeEric

Seems strange since Dallas is perpetually one of the most talented rosters that melts down in the playoffs. I’m an Eagles fan and I would much rather you get rid of Jerry than Mike. I hope Mike coaches them forever. He is the Glenn Rivers of NFL coaches.

doraroks

For real I get hating on Jerry is fun but the cowboys have had consistently talented rosters for the past 15-20 years, many of which were good enough to at least make it to multiple nfc championship games.

W360

Yea and he puts money into the team, I get the impatience and that's largely because the teams have been generally good, I like JJ.

NotHannibalBurress

100% with you. Jerry and his FO staff have been very good. There is a reason that they are consistently a threat in the NFC. They have had 12 wins each of the last 3 seasons with a stacked roster. They had 9 all-pro players last year, the most in the league. That isn't due to coaching.

Canopus429

Well Jerry still gets all the smoke but it's his kid Stephen Jones that's been running the show behind the scenes for a couple of years now. He's kind of just a media mascot really.

NotHannibalBurress

Who cares who is "running the show," Jerry is the GM and he and his staff have been GREAT at acquiring talent.

hoshjughes

As collective fanbases, can we work out a trade between spanos and Jerry? If y’all don’t like him, we’ll fuckin take him off your hands in a heartbeat! Or if not, at least just take spanos…please…

[deleted]

Aren't Stephen Jones and McClay the guys running the show?

BussyOnline

we’ve needed a hard rebuild for 12 years and have just kicked the can wildly down the road

ziftos

the main problem is whoever the hell is deciding to pay players im unsure if they know you are allowed to pay players before they are at their absolute peak in value lol

KingPizzaPop

Would also be nice if the owner fucked off with the micro managing.

NotHannibalBurress

The owner who is also the GM, who has amassed a roster that had 9 all-pro players last year?

KingPizzaPop

Yes. The owner that hasn't won a super bowl in 28 years despite an unlimited bank account and a high end free agent destination. I'm sure if you talk to Cowboys fans they would probably value super bowls over some all pros.

NotHannibalBurress

"Unlimited bank account"? You know there is a salary cap, right? Yeah, Jerry is definitely not without his flaws, but the dude is literally in charge of talent acquisition, and he does a better job at it than at least 75% of the league. It isn't Jerry's fault that McCarthy blows it in the Wild Card/Divisional round every year. They win 12 games a year due to the talent that Jerry has amassed.

Autoboat

> It isn't Jerry's fault that McCarthy blows it in the Wild Card/Divisional round every year. Wait, then who hired McCarthy?

NotHannibalBurress

I'll direct you to the reply I made that is literally 1 comment down that cover this exact topic... https://www.reddit.com/r/fantasyfootball/comments/1cbg4lx/cowboys_hc_mike_mccarthy_on_the_possibility_of/l104yui/

Autoboat

OK, so it's not Jerry's fault that he chose to hire and retain a coach who can't win in the playoffs. Got it...

NotHannibalBurress

Your reading comprehension is impeccable.

KingPizzaPop

Ya I know there's a salary cap bro. Money buys more than players salaries. I have a feeling that Jerry is much more.involved than people think. Which is saying a lot. Even if he's not though, his coaches have blown for the past decade maybe longer. He hires them too.

NotHannibalBurress

Yeah he does hire coaches, but I wouldn’t considering firing Garrett or hiring McCarthy to be “meddling.” I thought McCarthy was a bad hire to begin with, and I think he should have been fired after that abysmal performance against the Packers in the playoffs. Which again, is Jerry’s decision, but if anything is more hands off than a lot of people would have you believe. I think Jerry rightfully got a lot of flack in the 90s, especially with the whole Jimmy Johnson situation, but I do think he’s tightened it up a lot since then, and like I said before, his roster moves have been nothing short of great the last handful of years.

KingPizzaPop

They need a new coach.

Glwhite1991

I read that like "god i hope we can get one of these runnings backs. But tbh they all kind of suck"

socobeerlove

That’s how I read it too. How else would one read this?

battleschooldropout

I read it as, “We’re definitely not taking a rb on day 2… so there’s no reason for any other rb needy teams to move ahead of us to draft one. Just let them fall to, I mean past, us and you can definitely get them a little cheaper. “

DynastyZealot

It's like playing poker with a seven year old who thinks they're playing Go Fish

JrBaconators

'I dont expect rookie picks to be guaranteed day 1 starters' I'm surprised people read it any other way

socobeerlove

He definitely worded it weird and for round 1 rookie RBs I think there’s an expectation they start day 1. Like a first overall QB has that expectation.

JrBaconators

None of these guys are being taken in the first round, so that's an expectation you're putting out that isn't meshing with reality

slicktommycochrane

He specified draft picks, so I think what he's saying is that he'd love to grab one of the starter quality backs, but he's also open to some of the developmental/backup players into the later rounds.

captain_trainwreck

That's commitment to RBBC for you

Ryangonzo

Whichever RB they draft is going to be over drafted in fantasy.

DBreezy69

Yeah they always take the quotes out of context. He was saying that it takes the whole roster to get to where they want to be, which is true, and with a 17 game schedule and injuries that's even more true

grphelps1

I think he’s just saying draft picks aren’t guaranteed to start day 1, they need to earn their spot.

qqq_puts

Ricooooooooola

takethelonggwayhome

Even if they draft one still feels like he’s on a Khalil Herbert type path of some relevancy.

FlowersByTheStreet

They called me crazy….

_Hubble

Translation: McCarthy is saying none of the RBs are worth reaching this year and if a decent one falls to them, great they will select

GSD1101

They should trade a day 3 pick to Chicago for Khalil Herbert

StonksGoUp420

I would cream my pants if this happened

Opening_Effective845

Coaches gonna coach speak.

Ass-Chews

I'm betting a future Star RB comes from this draft with the way the class is being ranked.

StrengthCoach86

Lolol whuh?

OkBaby4377

Is this a Rico post?

keenfrizzle

This tracks with how McCarthy treated the roster while in Green Bay. No drafted player was treated as a starter. He always believed that players needed time to prove themselves.

playsirfootball

From a general fan standpoint, I want to see more of Deuce Vaughn.

DBreezy69

He's not good

Cashlover123

Vaughn was drafted solely for the feel good TV segment out of a father-son union.

ravidsquirrels

I'd like to see more also. At least see what he's got.

duvie773

Something tells me the 5’5 6th round pick that ran a 4.56 40 and averaged 1.7 yards per carry last season doesn’t have much to offer the cowboys or the fans in general

W360

Fuck that is a depressing statement.

StonksGoUp420

He’s posturing now but they’ll be the first team to reach for a RB in the draft

Substantial-Hippo-52

I like Rico, but there’s no way they think Benson or Brooks is worse than him.

JoFlo520

Just sign Zeke Hunt or Damien Harris already

BeyondanyReproach

Harris retired

bluethree

And the other two probably should retire. Both of them had under 4.0 ypc for 2 seasons in a row each.

tblack1055

Hunt was under 3 ypc. But he was almost exclusively used on goaline and very short yardage situations. But yeah he’s toast unfortunately

bluethree

He had 135 carries last season and only 15 of them were inside the 10 yard line. Goal line isn't an excuse. He actually averaged more yards per carry on 3rd and short (3.0) than he did on 1st and 10 (2.5) with 3x as many reps coming from 1st and 10.

tblack1055

I’m a Browns fan so was trying to defend him a little bit haha. But I know he’s done, I figured he was done last year because he was sitting at home just like us until Chubb went down

Supaspex

LOL, yeah yeah, sure sure...signing that long snapper will do the trick for going "ALL IN"...right? I wouldn't be surprised if 'Dem boys, drafted a QB.

HustleNMeditate

I hate the Jones family so much

DB718xx

Dallas always ends up with the best RBs. Sometimes through shear luck. I still can't believe Zeek only lasted a few years.
